I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 9
“Is this noodle shop okay?” Zhou Jun asked.
Although Wen Yimeng and Wen Yunqing arrived after she had already dealt with the two girls, both had helped her previously, so Zhou Jun naturally suggested treating them to a meal.
“It’s fine. We’re not picky,” Wen Yimeng said, walking ahead into the somewhat cramped noodle shop.
The shop had only five tables. Although small, it looked very clean. Since it was only around four o’clock, there weren’t many people inside.
“Students, what would you like to eat?” The proprietress walked over warmly. “A few of our signature noodles are very delicious. You can try them.”
Wen Yimeng looked at the price list on the wall. “I’m not very hungry. I’ll have a small bowl of egg noodles.”
“Okay, and the other two?” The proprietress wrote a few characters on a small board.
“I’ll try one of your signature noodles, the beef one, large size,” Wen Yunqing casually selected one from the specialties.
Zhou Jun scanned the price list for a moment and chose the cheapest one. “I want a small bowl of vegetable noodles.”
“Alright, I’ll go make them now. You take a seat,” the proprietress finished noting down their orders and headed straight to the kitchen.
Hearing that Wen Yunqing had chosen beef noodles, Wen Yimeng didn’t hold back and stepped on her foot.
“Hm?” A question mark slowly appeared above Wen Yunqing’s head as she sat opposite. “Yimeng, is something wrong?”
“Nothing, my foot just suddenly felt itchy,” Wen Yimeng said with a normal expression. So stupid! Zhou Jun’s family situation isn’t good, and you ordered such expensive beef noodles! It’s more expensive than both of our noodles combined!
“Are your shoes uncomfortable?” Wen Yunqing didn’t grasp Wen Yimeng’s meaning and asked with a look of concern. “Should I go buy you a pair of slippers to change into?”
“…” Wen Yimeng was choked into silence. Seeing that Wen Yunqing genuinely intended to do this, she immediately grabbed her sleeve. “No need. It’s fine now.”
“It’s really fine?” Wen Yunqing confirmed.
“Yes, it’s fine. Why are you carrying such a large backpack? What did you put in it?” Wen Yimeng immediately changed the subject. She felt quite uncomfortable with Wen Yunqing’s concern.
“Just a few textbooks,” Wen Yunqing replied. “We have two days off this weekend, so I can look at them when I have time.”
Wen Yimeng said “Oh,” and asked, “You’ve been a transfer student for a week now. Can you understand the teachers in class?”
Wen Yunqing rubbed her chin. “It’s alright. Except for English. Sometimes I don’t understand what the teacher is saying.”
Ruihua was a private high school. Judging by the annual graduate statistics, about half of them would study abroad. While students from wealthy families might struggle with other subjects, their English was usually passable, so Ruihua’s English teacher taught entirely in English.
Although the original owner was serious about studying, restricted by her geographical location, she only knew exam-oriented English, which was essentially “mute English.”
“That won’t do. English is a core subject,” Wen Yimeng frowned slightly.
Wen Yunqing was in the same class as her. If her grades were terrible, it would indirectly affect Wen Yimeng and lower her parents’ opinion of her.
“Then I’ll study it separately?” Wen Yunqing leaned back in her chair, tilting her head slightly. “Why don’t you teach me, Yimeng, when you have free time?”
Wen Yimeng instinctively wanted to refuse, but her peripheral vision caught Zhou Jun, and she suddenly conceived a perfect plan.
“Student Zhou, if I remember correctly, your grades in all subjects are excellent, and your overall rank is consistently in the top three, right?” Wen Yimeng asked.
Zhou Jun nodded and said, “If Student Wen has anything she doesn’t understand, she can come and ask me.”
“I think merely asking you might not be enough. Why don’t you set aside some time to tutor Wen… my cousin specifically?” Wen Yimeng suggested. “Even if she hires you as a tutor, how about… 500 yuan an hour?”
“No need. We don’t need to be so formal between classmates. If Student Wen doesn’t understand something, she can just ask me,” Zhou Jun quickly refused. “Besides, I don’t have the experience of those outside teachers, and I don’t know much…”
“That’s not necessarily true. My cousin is already in her senior year and has limited time to study English. Even the best tutors outside wouldn’t know exactly what we’re learning or testing, so it’s better to hire you directly as a tutor,” Wen Yimeng countered.
“Student Zhou can use the breaks between classes to teach my cousin. That would be more targeted and wouldn’t waste time,” Wen Yimeng said, feeling her plan was flawless.
Wen Yunqing now understood Wen Yimeng’s intention and cooperated by saying, “Yimeng’s suggestion is excellent. I wonder if Teacher Zhou is willing to take me on as a student?”
Zhou Jun hesitated. “I can be a temporary teacher, but I can’t accept money.”
“What’s wrong? Does Teacher Zhou not want to take responsibility?” Wen Yunqing suddenly looked serious. “Teacher Zhou, that mindset won’t do. You must charge by the hour and be responsible for my grades.”
“Huh?” Zhou Jun was confused. Does not charging mean I’m not responsible?
“Exactly, Student Zhou, you must understand that once you accept the money, we have a verbal agreement. If my cousin’s English grades don’t improve, you have to be responsible,” Wen Yimeng quickly understood Wen Yunqing’s intention and also put on a stern face.
“Then, then can’t I promise to be responsible without charging?” Zhou Jun tentatively asked.
“No,” Wen Yimeng and Wen Yunqing said in unison.
“How about this, Student Zhou, for the sake of us being classmates, let’s cut the price in half: 250 yuan an hour!” Wen Yimeng said, turning to Wen Yunqing. “Cousin, do you have any objections?”
Wen Yunqing shook her head. “I hope Teacher Zhou can spare one hour every day to teach me.”
“Student Zhou, are you willing to spare an hour?” Wen Yimeng pressed.
Zhou Jun blinked. “One hour is certainly possible. The time between classes and at noon should be enough, but…”
“Great, it’s settled then! We’ll settle the payment daily!” Wen Yimeng definitively concluded the matter.
With the conversation reaching this point, Zhou Jun naturally understood. The two were trying to protect her self-esteem by offering her money under the pretense of tutoring. Otherwise, given their families’ circumstances, they wouldn’t have trouble finding a suitable teacher.
Zhou Jun tightly clenched the corner of her shirt with her left hand, taking this gesture of kindness to heart. “Student Wen, which university are you aiming for?”
Wen Yunqing paused. She had never considered this question. She instinctively looked at Wen Yimeng. “Yimeng, which university do you want to attend?”
“I want to go to Jingda University!” Wen Yimeng said, her eyes filled with anticipation. “If my scores are high enough, I want to get into the Law School.”
Wen Yunqing nodded. “I want to attend the same university as Yimeng.”
Zhou Jun nodded, seriously promising, “I understand. We will meet at Jingda University.”
No matter what Wen Yunqing’s current grades were, as long as she taught Wen Yunqing everything she knew, she would definitely be able to get into Jingda! She guaranteed it!
