I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 77
“Wow, they even have a garden. Judging by this situation, these people aren’t short on money. It looks like the boss is about to cry.”
That was absolutely true. Upon hearing what Mother Wen said, the boss genuinely looked like he was about to cry. “Ladies, please spare me. This bronze statue cost me almost twenty thousand to acquire.”
“How about this, I’ll give you ten thousand dollars. Can I buy the statue back for that price?” The boss started playing the victim.
“He’s offering ten thousand dollars! Exchanging one hundred dollars for ten thousand is quite worth it.”
“Yeah, the boss looks pitiful too. Since he’s offering ten thousand, why don’t you sell it back to him?”
“The shipping fee will be expensive too. It’s faster to sell it back to the boss and get the money immediately.”
After Mother Wen showed off her wealth, some of the onlookers started to sympathize with the boss, feeling sorry for him.
“I’ve already contacted a logistics company. Someone will be here in half an hour to take the item away.” Mother Wen ignored everyone, put on the sunglasses she took from her pocket, and tilted her chin slightly. “Forget a few thousand dollars in shipping fees; I would take this bronze statue home even if it cost tens of thousands.”
Wen Yunqing couldn’t help but inwardly applaud her mother—Cool! Mom looks more like a domineering CEO than Wen Han does. She thought, I can also experience the feeling of being the ‘delicate little wife.’
“But, ladies, you must not be short of money. Can you really not sell the bronze statue back to me?” With the support of some of the surrounding crowd, the boss faintly held onto a thread of hope.
“Are you sure?” Wen Yunqing sneered. “If you dare to buy it for ten thousand dollars, I’ll use twenty dollars to win it back again. Do you believe me?”
Wen Yunqing’s words completely extinguished the boss’s idea. His intuition told him that the person in front of him was capable of ten hits out of ten rings.
Since he couldn’t buy it back at half price, the boss could only glumly leave his contact information, waiting for the logistics company to send someone to transport the bronze statue.
After leaving the Qin and Han Palace section, it was already noon. Looking at the sun, which was almost directly overhead, the three of them chose to give up on continuing their tour and found a restaurant that looked expensive, where they could go in and enjoy the cool air.
“Three ladies, may I ask what you would like to order?” A waiter in the restaurant approached, thoughtfully bringing two menus. Mother Wen looked at one, and Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng looked at the other together.
“It mainly focuses on Western cuisine,” Mother Wen said, flipping it open. The menu only had dish names in both Chinese and English, without corresponding pictures.
“I’ll have a steak. For the rest, please help me select a few of your restaurant’s specialties,” Mother Wen didn’t know which items were good here, so she only specified the quality of the steak, then left the selection up to the waiter.
The waiter noted Mother Wen’s request, then stood aside, quietly waiting for Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng to make their choices.
Wen Yunqing didn’t mind the lack of pictures. After a quick glance, she ordered ten dishes in one go, mostly the ones she and Wen Yimeng liked to eat.
“Do the three of you need any red wine pairings?” the waiter asked.
Wine? Hearing this word, Wen Yimeng subconsciously raised an eyebrow, recalling how she behaved when drunk, and then decisively refused.
“No, please bring us some seasonal fruit juice.” Although what happened before was not a big deal now, Wen Yimeng still remembered that drinking leads to trouble, and it was better to avoid it if possible.
Perhaps because the individual dish prices were quite high, the restaurant was not fully seated even during the National Day holiday. The occupancy rate of the private rooms was unclear, but looking at the main dining area alone, about a quarter of the seats were still empty.
About three minutes after the waiter left, the drinks arrived. Five minutes later, the complimentary pre-meal bread was served, and then the dishes started coming out one by one. The overall speed was quite good.
Mother Wen was generally satisfied with the restaurant’s flavor. The dishes tasted good and were made with fresh ingredients. However, as she ate, she noticed something wasn’t quite right.
Why were the dishes ordered by her two daughters always shared together? While she was eating hers alone?
The serving sizes in this restaurant were generally small—you could practically finish them in two bites. In this situation, most people wouldn’t be sharing back and forth, one bite for you and one for me…
I didn’t expect studying together to foster such strong affection. Judging by this, the most important people in her two daughters’ eyes must be each other. I guess I can be ranked second?
Mother Wen didn’t entertain any unusual thoughts. After all, in a normal mindset, siblings getting along well was what parents liked to see.
“Yimeng, do you consider Mom to be the most important person in your heart?” Mother Wen asked, voicing her thought.
“Huh?” Wen Yimeng was somewhat stunned by the sudden question. “Mom is certainly the most important person.”
Mother Wen raised an eyebrow. “Then, compared to me and Yunqing, who is more important in your heart?”
“Of course, you are equally important. Mom, why are you suddenly asking this?” Wen Yimeng gripped the spoon in her hand. Could the noise last night have been too loud, raising Mom’s suspicion?
Impossible. She and Yunqing were very restrained, and their voices were low. She could understand if the sound had carried into the living room, but into the room next door? That shouldn’t be possible, right?
“Nothing, I just suddenly thought of asking.” Mother Wen picked up her glass and took a sip of juice. “What about you, Yunqing? In your opinion, who is the most important?”
“Mom, I’m not used to lying in front of you, so I’m going to tell the truth,” Wen Yunqing said with a smile. “You can’t blame me later, okay?”
“Oh?” Mother Wen raised an eyebrow. The way she phrased that, if she were to blame her afterward, it would be her own fault? She wouldn’t want to hear the truth?
“Mom, you are very important to me, there is no doubt about that.” Wen Yunqing’s expression grew serious. “But Mom, you also know that I’ve been with Yimeng for a long time, much longer than the time I’ve spent with you. So, in my heart, Yimeng is a little more important.”
“I’m ranked second?” Although Mother Wen could accept this statement, hearing it out loud still made her a little sad.
After all, Wen Yunqing was the child she had painstakingly carried for ten months and given birth to. Was she truly less important than Yimeng in her heart?
“Yes. I don’t care about many people, and Mom, you are a very important one.” Wen Yunqing said. To enhance the credibility, she added, “Dad and Wen Han combined are not even worth one of Mom’s fingers.”
“You child.” Mother Wen couldn’t help but laugh. Comparing them that way, Wen Father and Wen Han were truly unwelcome!
Mother Wen had only asked on a whim. The answers from both of them were both satisfying and unsatisfying to her, creating a sense of emotion that she really hadn’t spent enough time with Wen Yunqing.
Wen Yunqing went back to school as soon as she returned, and the academic pressure of her senior year was heavy. The only time they spent extended time together was during the few days of the New Year holiday.
Wen Yimeng was just as touched as Mother Wen. She hadn’t expected Wen Yunqing to openly state in front of her mother that she was the most important person, so important that even her birth mother could only rank second.
“Yunqing, I…” Wen Yimeng began to speak. She felt that she perhaps needed to say something or explain.
“Do you want to eat this? Good.” Wen Yunqing seemed not to notice her distress, directly picked up a piece of lobster meat, and put it into her mouth. “Is it delicious?”
Wen Yimeng chewed, then slowly nodded. “Mhm, delicious.”
