I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 5
Frankly speaking, compared to ordinary public schools, the private Ruihua Academy had excellent teaching staff. Every subject teacher’s résumé was impressive, with a string of awards and honors following their names.
Because Ruihua advocates for quality education, even though the students are in their senior year, they only have seven classes a day: four in the morning, three in the afternoon, with the last period being a fixed two hours of non-core subjects.
After the second class in the afternoon ended, Wen Yunqing saw the other students in the class starting to pack up. Most of the girls put on their small cross-body bags, and some boys simply carried their backpacks.
“Student, isn’t there still one class left?” Wen Yunqing was curious and randomly asked a girl.
“Huh? You probably don’t know yet. Our last class usually isn’t held in this classroom. We go somewhere else,” the girl said, looking up at Wen Yunqing. After meeting her gaze for a moment, she looked down again. “Today is music class. You can just grab what you need to take with you, and then you can leave straight from there after school.”
This transfer student isn’t very fair-skinned, but her features are beautiful. If I look at her for too long, I even think she looks a little handsome!
“I see. Thanks,” Wen Yunqing didn’t have anything she needed to carry, so she just tucked the mini-cake she hadn’t eaten at noon into her pocket.
“Yimeng, aren’t you ready yet?” Li Ruolan asked, having slung her small cross-body bag over her shoulder.
“Mm, I’m looking for something. Why don’t you go ahead,” Wen Yimeng slowly flipped through the books on her desk, occasionally glancing back out of the corner of her eye to observe Wen Yunqing’s actions.
“It’s fine, I’ll wait for you.” Li Ruolan subtly looked at Wen Yunqing, a flicker of thought in her eyes. Her intuition told her that the relationship between the two wasn’t as simple as just cousins.
If Wen Yunqing was just an irrelevant relative, there was no reason for Wen Yimeng to care so much about her. Not only did she step in to mediate the conflict this morning, but now she was deliberately stalling, waiting for her.
“Could you go save a seat for me? Otherwise, we won’t have anywhere to sit if we’re late,” Wen Yimeng said. She definitely didn’t want Wen Yunqing calling her “darling” or anything similar in front of her friend; that would be too embarrassing.
“Okay, I’ll go first then. Hurry up, don’t be late.” Seeing that she had no reason to stay, Li Ruolan had no choice but to head toward the door.
Soon, the large classroom was left with only Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng.
Wen Yunqing had originally intended to follow the crowd, but when she saw Wen Yimeng hadn’t left, she simply stayed put. Only when they were the only two left did she get up, walk over, and sit down carelessly in Wen Yimeng’s deskmate’s seat.
“Darling Yimeng, are you waiting for me?” Wen Yunqing leaned back in the chair casually, tilting her head slightly to look at Wen Yimeng’s face.
Wen Yimeng frowned, instinctively refuting: “I’m just looking for something, don’t flatter yourself.”
With that, Wen Yimeng grabbed a random item and held it in her hand, pretending she had found what she needed, and decisively got up to leave.
Wen Yunqing blinked. Such obvious waiting—could I really have misinterpreted it? I’m not stupid.
Seeing Wen Yimeng reach the doorway, Wen Yunqing also got up from the chair, quickened her pace for a couple of steps, and followed behind Wen Yimeng, maintaining a half-step distance.
“Don’t follow me. We have nothing to do with each other,” Wen Yimeng turned to glance at Wen Yunqing, frowning slightly.
Wen Yunqing chuckled, then slowed her steps, keeping the distance between them at about 1.5 meters.
Seeing that Wen Yunqing actually stepped back, Wen Yimeng felt a little uncomfortable again.
I told her to retreat, and she did? Being so obedient, she must be trying to make me drop my guard! This must be a scheme! I must stay vigilant! Absolutely, absolutely! I cannot repeat past mistakes!
After walking for about five minutes, the two arrived at the classroom for the last period. The music room was large, with half the space filled with musical instruments. The student seating was arranged on the side closer to the door.
Wen Yimeng had Li Ruolan save a seat for her, so she sat down next to her right after entering, forcing herself not to look at Wen Yunqing.
Wen Yunqing was almost the last one to arrive. Seeing that there were no empty seats immediately around Wen Yimeng, she chose a spot near the door and sat down next to Zhou Jun.
“You don’t mind if I sit here?” Wen Yunqing asked.
Zhou Jun shook her head, moving her notebook and pen inward to make more space for her.
Wen Yunqing glanced at the items on the desk and asked curiously, “Isn’t this music class? Why do you have a physics book?”
Zhou Jun subconsciously tightened her grip on her pen. Then, remembering that Wen Yunqing had just transferred today, she slowly relaxed, lowering her voice to explain, “The last class every day doesn’t have grade requirements. As long as you stay quiet, you can do anything.”
In short, this kind of class was just a formality for quality education. While it might be useful for some who had an interest in the arts, for Zhou Jun, who was still struggling near the poverty line, it was better to use this time to study core subjects and prepare for the Gaokao (college entrance exam).
Wen Yunqing nodded. Not wanting to disturb Zhou Jun’s study, she leaned back in her chair and turned her head to look at Wen Yimeng, who was talking to her deskmate.
“Yimeng, I just realized your cousin looks a bit like Uncle Wen,” Li Ruolan asked without lowering her voice, immediately attracting the attention of several people.
“Oh?” Wen Yimeng’s heart tightened. “She’s a relative from my dad’s side. It’s normal to have a resemblance.”
“That makes sense.” After hearing Wen Yimeng’s answer, Li Ruolan changed the topic, but the seed of suspicion was planted in her heart.
She had known Wen Yimeng since the first year of high school. To successfully become Wen Yimeng’s good friend, she had done her homework seriously. Wen Yimeng’s reaction just now clearly suggested a problem.
The teacher was lecturing on Western music appreciation. To Wen Yunqing, this was like listening to gibberish. Neither her current self nor her past self had any exposure to this area.
Realizing she couldn’t understand, Wen Yunqing simply gave up. She supported her chin with one hand and stared at Wen Yimeng’s profile, lost in thought.
As expected of my darling Yimeng. Even her profile is perfect. Every curve is just right. I wonder when I’ll get to touch her.
“Student Zhou, could I borrow your paper and pen?” After admiring her for a while, Wen Yunqing’s hands started itching. “Just one sheet of paper and one pen, please.”
“Is this okay?” Zhou Jun tore off a page of scrap paper and handed her a black felt-tip pen.
“Thank you,” Wen Yunqing took the pen, observed Wen Yimeng carefully, and quickly sketched her general outline on the paper.
Due to her cultivation needs, Wen Yunqing had a strong understanding of body structure, bone, and muscle distribution. In a short while, she completed a figure sketch.
It wasn’t a one-hundred percent replication, but it had a ninety percent similarity. It was obvious at a glance that the person she drew was Wen Yimeng, who was listening attentively to the class.
Wen Yunqing admired her drawing, folded the paper, and placed it in her other pocket.
After about forty minutes, the teacher closed the textbook. “That’s all for today’s lesson. For the remaining time, students can choose an instrument they like to practice. If you have any questions, you can find me in the office.”
As soon as the words fell, the people in the classroom became active. They immediately began selecting instruments and trying them out, regardless of whether the teacher had left. Those who weren’t interested in music simply took out their phones and started playing online games.
“Yimeng, did your cousin grow up in the countryside the whole time?” Li Ruolan asked indirectly.
Wen Yimeng frowned slightly. She didn’t really want to talk about Wen Yunqing, but since Li Ruolan asked, she could only answer perfunctorily: “I’m not sure. Maybe.”
“Your cousin must be lonely all by herself over there. Why don’t you ask her to sit over here? We can practice the violin together,” Li Ruolan suggested.
Wen Yimeng glanced back without leaving a trace. “No need. We can practice by ourselves.”
Why call her over? I know with my toes that Wen Yunqing probably can’t play any instrument. Everyone will just be embarrassed.
“Since you’re relatives, maintaining a good relationship is quite important, you know~” Li Ruolan said, standing up and walking toward Wen Yunqing.
“Student Wen, what instrument do you like? Would you like to practice with us?” Li Ruolan asked with a smile, taking the opportunity to observe Wen Yunqing’s appearance up close.
The resemblance is strong. It’s too strong. No wonder she found her a bit familiar at first glance. The basic contours of this face were at least five parts similar to Wen Yimeng’s father. This was not the typical resemblance one would see in a distant relative.
Wen Yunqing looked up. Li Ruolan’s smile seemed somewhat artificial in her eyes.
“I’m not interested in being with you,” Wen Yunqing directly refused.
“Student Wen, aren’t you and Yimeng cousins? Since you’re family, you should sit together,” Li Ruolan said, blinking, and then casually added, “Did the two of you have some kind of falling out? Haven’t made up yet?”
“We had a falling out?” Wen Yunqing looked at Li Ruolan indifferently. “It seems, student, that your comprehension is lacking.”
“I just said I’m not interested in being with you,” Wen Yunqing clarified. “If it were Yimeng and I… practicing together, I would be very happy.”
Hearing Wen Yunqing’s words, Li Ruolan’s expression stiffened slightly. She forced a smile. “It looks like I was presumptuous. I thought you and Yimeng had an argument and wanted to mediate for you.”
“Mm, it’s good that you know,” Wen Yunqing nodded, then seamlessly asked, “Student, since you’re so kind, you certainly wouldn’t mind swapping seats with me, right?”
“You also said just now that if we’re family, we should sit together, right?”
