I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 28
The next day, Wen Yunqing woke up early for once. As soon as she opened her eyes, Wen Yimeng’s peaceful sleeping face fell into her sight.
Her jawline was lovely, her nose was lovely, and her eyelashes were lovely. The only flaw was that Wen Yimeng’s eyes were still slightly red and swollen, likely from shedding too many tears last night, and hadn’t recovered yet.
Wen Yunqing gathered spiritual energy in her palm and gently brushed it over Wen Yimeng’s eyes, removing this sole imperfection.
About half an hour later, Wen Yimeng groggily opened her eyes. After staring at the ceiling for a while, she turned to look at the person lying beside her.
“Good morning~” Wen Yunqing’s mouth curved into a warm smile.
Wen Yimeng blinked, her mind slowly returning to clarity. “What time is it?”
“A little after eight. You can keep sleeping if you want. We’re on holiday now,” Wen Yunqing said. With Wen Yimeng in the blanket beside her, she could lie there all day.
Wen Yimeng didn’t respond but returned to staring at the ceiling, slowly recalling the events of last night.
Just last night, she had confessed all her secrets to Wen Yunqing. Not only the matter concerning Li Hong, but she had also blurted out all her true feelings.
Thinking of her own idiotic question at the time and Wen Yunqing’s answer, Wen Yimeng couldn’t help but curl her toes, feeling an impulse to bore a hole into the floor.
“Darling Yimeng, you still remember what you promised me last night, right?” Seeing that Wen Yimeng was mostly awake, Wen Yunqing couldn’t help but seek confirmation.
“Huh?” Wen Yimeng played dumb. “What did I promise you?”
“To try and accept me, naturally,” Wen Yunqing said, sitting up, then leaning forward until she was face-to-face with Wen Yimeng. “You admitted that you have a little bit of feeling for me too; you just aren’t sure what kind of feeling it is.”
“I won’t force you to give me an answer right away. I allow you to take your time to think, but you cannot reject me getting moderately close to you, and you can’t find excuses to avoid me,” Wen Yunqing said, her nose practically touching Wen Yimeng’s.
“Do you remember now?” Wen Yunqing asked.
She isn’t giving me any chance to escape! Wen Yimeng held her breath. After holding Wen Yunqing’s gaze for three seconds, she lost the staring contest. “I remember, I remember. I won’t go back on my word.”
“Okay, I need to get up. Mom is waiting for us to go shopping for New Year’s goods,” Wen Yimeng said, unable to withstand Wen Yunqing’s gaze any longer, reaching out to push her shoulder.
Wen Yunqing cooperated fully, retreating and throwing off the covers. “Alright, I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
Watching Wen Yunqing walk back to her room in her pajamas, Wen Yimeng sighed deeply, staring blankly at the ceiling lamp, lost in thought.
“Yunqing, how do you feel about this jacket? Want to try it on?” Although they had planned to shop for New Year’s goods, the moment they arrived at the mall, Mrs. Wen’s steps detoured straight to a clothing store.
“Okay.” Wen Yunqing had no special requirements for her clothing. She tried on whatever Mrs. Wen handed her, immediately changing into the black coat Mrs. Wen picked out.
“Yimeng, try this one,” Mrs. Wen selected the same style in a different color and handed it to Wen Yimeng.
“Alright,” Wen Yimeng nodded obediently and changed into the white coat.
When the two changed into their new coats, Mrs. Wen’s eyes lit up. She had them stand side-by-side, and her smile widened.
“This is great! Outsiders will know you’re sisters right away!” Mrs. Wen was extremely pleased with her choice of clothes.
Wen Yunqing looked at the coats they were wearing, and a curve lifted at the corner of her mouth. Excellent. One black, one white—exactly like a couple’s outfit!
It is a well-known fact that women who are shopping do not get tired, especially Mrs. Wen, who was immersed in dressing her daughters. She visited one store after another, purchasing anything she liked with a wave of her hand.
Worried about not being able to carry all the items? No need to worry at all! Mrs. Wen simply had to swipe her card and provide the address; the clothes would be delivered home by a specialized service.
They shopped for nearly two hours straight. It wasn’t until the clock hand pointed to the number 12 that Mrs. Wen reluctantly stopped.
“It’s lunchtime. What would you two like to eat?” Mrs. Wen glanced at her wristwatch. “Chinese or Western food?”
“I’m fine with anything,” Wen Yunqing stated that she wasn’t picky.
“Me too,” Wen Yimeng didn’t have any bad habits of being picky either.
Mrs. Wen looked around and quickly settled on a target. “Since you aren’t picky, let’s go have some hot pot. It’s warm and comforting!”
Eating hot pot in winter seemed like a good choice, and perhaps it would have been even better if they hadn’t run into Li Ruolan at the entrance.
“Auntie, are you and Yimeng out shopping too?” Li Ruolan greeted them with a smile.
Mrs. Wen nodded as a response. Since the Wen and Li families hadn’t completely severed ties, and the other party was younger, she didn’t want to show any animosity.
“Auntie, are there just three of you? Why don’t you join us? Eating with five people would be livelier,” Li Ruolan suggested. “My classmate and I are out shopping too.”
“If you know what’s good for you, get lost and don’t ruin my good mood,” Wen Yunqing said impolitely. “Otherwise, heh.”
The expression on Li Ruolan’s face stiffened. She hadn’t expected the other girl to be so unrestrained even in the presence of an elder. “I apologize. I was impulsive that day. I didn’t mean it.”
“A good dog doesn’t block the road,” Wen Yunqing said with a frown. “Or do you want me to take action?”
Thinking back to her previous experience, Li Ruolan immediately backed up three steps, saying aggrievedly, “Since Student Wen is unwilling to forgive me, I won’t bother you any longer. I hope you enjoy your time.”
“Alright, ignore outsiders.” Mrs. Wen patted her elder daughter’s shoulder, giving Li Ruolan a meaningful glance.
This child is truly skilled at faking it. She didn’t notice anything abnormal despite seeing her so many times before.
Looking at the steaming broth, and dipping their food into the sauce that was spicy enough to bring tears to their eyes, the three quickly forgot about the recent encounter and happily ate hot pot in a wonderful atmosphere.
When Wen Yimeng went to the restroom, Mrs. Wen took the opportunity to ask, “Yunqing, do the people in your class already know about your situation?”
“More or less, but the attitude of the people in our class hasn’t changed much,” Wen Yunqing said, smoothly fishing out a cooked shrimp paste ball and putting it in Wen Yimeng’s bowl.
Mrs. Wen nodded. “Yunqing, tell me honestly, if I treat you and Yimeng equally, will you feel wronged?”
“I won’t feel wronged, but Yimeng might feel a little difference,” Wen Yunqing said, setting down her chopsticks. “What Li Ruolan said made a lot of people in other classes believe Yimeng would be abandoned.”
“After all, for me, my life is getting better bit by bit, while Yimeng’s situation is the opposite of mine,” Wen Yunqing said. “Mom, don’t worry. I’m not an extreme person. Yimeng was the one who was with you for seventeen years. After all that time, there must be feelings.”
Mrs. Wen felt an indescribable pang of sadness. The more obedient and sensible Wen Yunqing acted, the more distressed she felt, as Wen Yunqing was her biological child.
“By the way, Mom, have you investigated why Yimeng and I were switched in the first place?” Wen Yunqing asked.
Hearing this question, Mrs. Wen paused. “Why did you suddenly bring this up? Did someone from that side contact you?”
Wen Yunqing shook her head. “I was just suddenly curious.”
Mrs. Wen thought for a moment. Seeing that Wen Yimeng hadn’t returned from the restroom, she began, “Li Hong was the one who swapped you two. You should know that, right?”
“I know. I heard that Li Hong used to be a maid in Dad’s house,” Wen Yunqing said.
Mrs. Wen nodded. “Li Hong’s father once saved your father’s life. Although she was technically a maid, your father used to look after Li Hong like a sister.”
“But for some reason, Li Hong…” Mrs. Wen’s expression became strange at this point. “She developed inappropriate feelings for your father. After your father found out, he gave her a sum of money and told her to leave.”
“We never expected that Li Hong would harbor such resentment because of this, and even use her own child as a way to take revenge on us…” Mrs. Wen sighed.
“Because of the life-saving grace from her father, your dad didn’t pursue charges against her; he just forced her to leave An City.”
Wen Yunqing frowned slightly. “So, Li Hong didn’t pay any price for swapping us?”
Mrs. Wen didn’t speak, but nodded, indicating that if it weren’t for that so-called life-saving grace, she would have sent Li Hong to jail long ago.
Just as Wen Yunqing was about to ask more questions, Wen Yimeng returned, carrying a tray with three freshly mixed dipping sauces.
“This dipping sauce recipe I just found online. Try it and see if it’s good,” Wen Yimeng, completely unaware of what had just transpired, placed the dipping sauces in front of them one by one.
“Alright, then I’ll try Yimeng’s skill,” Mrs. Wen’s eyes regained their smile.
She can be called emotional or foolish, but she was determined now to keep both children. One was the child she carried for ten months, and the other was the child she personally raised for seventeen years. Both were equally important in her heart.
Wen Yimeng didn’t know anything. Seeing the extra food in her bowl, she instinctively looked at Wen Yunqing.
Wen Yunqing blinked at her, asking with her eyes if she needed help cooking more food.
Wen Yimeng said nothing, but picked up a fish ball with her chopsticks and placed it in Wen Yunqing’s bowl, answering with her action.
