I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 25
Lu Zhiming gave Wen Yunqing a lot of useful information. To express her thanks, Wen Yunqing gave her a talisman that she had just finished drawing when school ended.
“Do you know the new teacher?” Wen Yimeng couldn’t help but ask once they were in the car, having noticed their interaction from the start.
“Yes, I met Lu Zhiming once at the resort,” Wen Yunqing didn’t hide it. “I got a good feeling from her; she’s a nice person.”
“The resort? When did you meet her? Why didn’t I know?” Wen Yimeng asked, a tinge of sourness in her voice that she hadn’t even noticed herself.
Could it be that Wen Yunqing remembered her just because she’s pretty? Isn’t judging people by appearance a bit shallow? But I guess I also… based on appearance…
“It was when I went to look for Zhou Jun. Nothing much happened, so I didn’t bring it up,” Wen Yunqing said. “Oh, right. These are some small paper crafts I just folded. Can you help me keep them safe?”
Saying this, Wen Yunqing took out ten paper-folded stars from her pocket and placed them in Wen Yimeng’s hand.
“Didn’t you bring your own bag? Why don’t you keep them yourself?” Wen Yimeng looked at the ten small stars in her hand. “They’re made of paper. You should find a small box to put them in. They’ll easily get crushed if you put them directly into a bag.”
“It’s fine. Just keep them safe for me,” Wen Yunqing said, proactively pulling open Wen Yimeng’s small bag, signaling her to toss the small stars inside.
Wen Yimeng looked perplexed, but she complied with Wen Yunqing’s request and put the small stars into her cross-body bag. “I’m telling you now, if they get crushed, I won’t be responsible.”
“Just carry them with you; they usually won’t get damaged,” Wen Yunqing said, offering no further explanation.
Days passed quickly. While preparing for the final exams, Wen Yunqing also continued to monitor the situation at Ruihua.
Ruihua during the day was uneventful. Most students attended school normally, with the only noticeable change being the tension of facing the joint examination.
However, in the last few days leading up to the exam, Wen Yunqing keenly noticed that Lu Zhiming had acquired several new injuries. It seemed Ruihua was not so peaceful at night.
The noon before the final exam, Lu Zhiming sought out Wen Yunqing and immediately stated her purpose. “Lately, there have been too many things popping up at night. I’m finding it a bit tricky to handle. Could you do me a favor?”
“Do you need to deal with people or other things?” Wen Yunqing asked.
“A vicious ghost is targeting this area, and this school…” Lu Zhiming paused. “There are many souls of those who died unfairly here, and they are easily manipulated by the vicious ghost. I can handle the vicious ghost, but if I do, I won’t be able to spare any effort for the minor ghosts that pop up.”
“Souls of those who died unfairly?” Wen Yunqing raised an eyebrow. “I’ve been at school this long; why haven’t I felt anything?”
“According to my investigation, those souls were all students at the school before they died. Their range of activity is very limited and does not involve the teaching buildings. Also, they generally don’t come out during the day; nighttime is their active period,” Lu Zhiming said, taking out an A4 paper full of text and handing it to Wen Yunqing.
“Currently, I have found three: one boy and two girls. They should appear in the dormitories. We will have someone deal with the boys’ dormitory, but for the girls’ dormitory…”
Lu Zhiming looked at Wen Yunqing. “Can you help deal with it?”
Wen Yunqing took the papers from her hand, scanning the information ten lines at a time. After reading it, she frowned slightly. “Since you investigated that they are souls of those who died unjustly, will the police handle the matter of the people involved later?”
“These things happened five years ago and involve a school board member at Ruihua. If no one files a complaint or reports the crime, the police cannot intervene,” Lu Zhiming said, pausing and giving Wen Yunqing a meaningful look.
“If someone can awaken the consciousness of the wronged souls and help them break free from their earth-bound limitations, perhaps those who committed the wrongdoings will receive corresponding punishment even without a formal report.”
Wen Yunqing met Lu Zhiming’s gaze. After a brief exchange of looks, their intentions aligned.
“I’m not very good at awakening their consciousness. How about I deal with the vicious ghost instead?” Wen Yunqing suggested. She wasn’t adept at persuading people with reason; she preferred to let strength do the talking.
Lu Zhiming frowned slightly. Her way of doing things was somewhat similar to Wen Yunqing’s—no need for extra words, just fight and be done with it.
But after considering Wen Yunqing’s martial capabilities, her eyebrows smoothed out. “Fine. I’ll handle the two female ghosts in the girls’ dorm.”
After the matter was settled, Wen Yunqing faced a problem. Dealing with the vicious ghost was easy for her, but figuring out how to tell Wen Yimeng was the hard part.
Telling her directly was definitely out of the question, but if she had to find an excuse to conceal it, Wen Yunqing couldn’t think of a good reason right away.
It wasn’t until school was about to end that afternoon that Wen Yunqing finally managed to find a reason and told Wen Yimeng.
“You’re staying at school to review and study for the exam with Zhou Jun tonight?” Wen Yimeng asked, her face etched with disbelief. “The exam is tomorrow. You shouldn’t disturb her tonight. This is not the time for last-minute cramming.”
Wen Yimeng looked at her suspiciously. “Are you keeping something from me?”
Wen Yunqing hesitated slightly, then nodded. “I have something to take care of here tonight, so I need to stay.”
“What kind of thing requires you to handle it at night?” Wen Yimeng pressed.
“Hmm…” Wen Yunqing paused. “It’s not convenient to tell you about this right now.”
“Why?” Wen Yimeng puffed out her cheeks. “Is there anything I shouldn’t know? Are you planning to do something bad under the cover of night?”
“It’s not that you can’t know, it’s just that if you know, it will affect your exam performance tomorrow and the day after,” Wen Yunqing said sincerely. “How about I tell you after the exams are over?”
“Hmph, suit yourself. It’s your business, after all. Tell me if you want, don’t tell me if you don’t,” Wen Yimeng was a little upset.
In the past few days, she had clearly noticed that Wen Yunqing was very concerned about the new teacher, occasionally going out to talk to her alone. She didn’t know what the two were talking about.
Wen Yunqing couldn’t resist poking Wen Yimeng’s cheek. Receiving a warning glare, she couldn’t help but laugh a little. “Yimeng, does your behavior count as jealousy?”
“What? Jealousy? Me, jealous of you? How is that possible!” The words Wen Yunqing said were like stepping on Wen Yimeng’s non-existent tail, instantly making her flare up like a cat, becoming highly agitated.
“Don’t overthink it. I just think your behavior is strange,” Wen Yimeng tried hard to explain, her tone becoming fierce. “The exam is tomorrow. If you don’t go back and rest properly tonight, be careful of dozing off during the test tomorrow! Don’t even think about getting into the top hundred! And don’t you dare say I tutored you then!”
“Okay, okay, I understand. I was overthinking it,” Wen Yunqing suppressed her laughter. “I’m just staying here for one night. Can I go home with you tomorrow?”
“Whether you go home or not has nothing to do with me. I’m leaving,” Wen Yimeng huffed, clutching the strap of her cross-body bag, and walked away without looking back.
After Wen Yimeng walked away, Lu Zhiming, who had been acting as background, approached. She didn’t ask what had happened but handed Wen Yunqing a small bell.
“This can block the vicious ghost’s attacks three times. Keep it for now,” Lu Zhiming said simply. “I should be around the girls’ dormitory tonight. You can find me after you’re done.”
“Got it.” Wen Yunqing didn’t waste words either, putting the bell directly into her pocket.
The sky gradually darkened. As the time approached midnight, a cold wind blew from outside, carrying faint sounds of sobbing.
Seeing this, Wen Yunqing put away the study materials on her desk and walked directly toward the source of the sound. She quickly spotted a red figure in a small grove of trees.
Sensing that a living person was approaching, the red figure slowly turned its head, then instantly teleported right in front of Wen Yunqing.
Holy shit, so ugly!
Wen Yunqing instinctively took a step back, instantly gathering spiritual energy in her hand. She clenched her fist and launched it toward the vicious ghost’s head.
“Heh, you…” The vicious ghost hadn’t finished its third word before it felt intense pain in its face, accompanied by the whistling of the wind in its ears.
She had been hit by a human, and she’d been knocked back several meters!
“Tsk. You’re a vicious ghost now. Can’t you at least give yourself a prettier face?” Wen Yunqing took out a tissue with a look of disgust, furiously wiping her hand.
Although her hand was wrapped in spiritual energy, the thought of the ghost’s face, whose features were barely discernible, made her feel nauseous.
“Are you a Taoist priest?” Although repelled, the vicious ghost quickly floated back, maintaining a distance of ten meters as it confronted Wen Yunqing, still maintaining its pale complexion and twisted features.
“A Taoist priest?” Wen Yunqing tossed the tissue into a nearby trash can. “Compared to that title, I should probably be considered a cultivator.”
“I’ll give you two choices. Either you voluntarily disperse your cultivation and report to the Underworld, or I will directly shatter your soul, granting you release,” Wen Yunqing stated.
Hearing Wen Yunqing’s words, the vicious ghost let out a low laugh. “A wet-behind-the-ears child! I was just being careless just now. You actually think highly of yourself!”
Saying this, the vicious ghost let out a long howl. Accompanied by a swirling black wind, its figure gradually faded.
Wen Yunqing frowned slightly, looking at her surroundings. The original grove of trees and the trash can were gone, replaced by an incredibly desolate street. She stood in the middle of the street, with both ends stretching out of sight.
Isn’t this clearly an illusion?
Wen Yunqing had no intention of playing games with this red-clad vicious ghost. She silently recited a magic spell, and a bolt of lightning, about five centimeters thick, appeared out of thin air, instantly shattering the illusion.
“Cough, cough. Which sect are you from?” The red-and-black ghostly figure reappeared behind Wen Yunqing.
The long red dress she had been wearing was already half-scorched by the lightning.
