I Got Together With the Fake Heiress - Chapter 19
After Zhou Jun left, the class continued to buzz with discussion. The vast majority believed Zhou Jun was innocent, thinking she must have been maliciously reported by some disgusting villain.
Why did I say the vast majority believed her? Naturally, because there were still a few individuals who did not believe it, thinking the Academic Affairs Office wouldn’t act rashly without evidence.
“That’s actually not entirely certain. After all, the teacher from the Academic Affairs Office came to call for her; if there wasn’t evidence, they probably wouldn’t make such a big show of it,” Li Ruolan said. Ever since she inexplicably spoke her true feelings last time, Li Ruolan had sensibly changed her seat, moving to a spot two rows behind Wen Yimeng.
“You know everything again? Don’t tell me you were the one who reported her?” Wen Yunqing said coldly. She felt annoyed seeing Li Ruolan hopping around; if only she could find an opportunity to get rid of her.
Li Ruolan choked up slightly, but remembering the things she had investigated recently, her confidence returned. “I’m just discussing the facts. The teacher from the Academic Affairs Office wouldn’t act rashly.”
“Speaking of which, didn’t Zhou Jun tutor you? Could it be she also gave you the exam questions?” Li Ruolan guessed in a way she considered logical.
“Li Ruolan, there are some things you shouldn’t say carelessly,” Wen Yimeng frowned tightly. How could Li Ruolan’s attitude have changed so drastically? “Zhou Jun is a member of our class. As classmates, we should trust her, not splash dirty water on our own people like you do!”
“Didn’t you always dislike this cousin of yours before? Why are you clinging to her so tightly now? Have the Wen family given up on you?” Li Ruolan sneered dismissively. Recalling the humiliation she suffered previously, she couldn’t resist revealing what she had investigated. “That’s right. After all, the biological child is different from the non-biological one. You have to curry favor with Wen Yunqing.”
The moment these words were spoken, the expression on Wen Yimeng’s face changed. The classroom fell silent for a full three seconds, followed only by faint murmuring and discussion, with no loud questioning.
Li Ruolan frowned. What was going on? She had dropped such explosive news, so why was everyone’s reaction so calm?
“Alright, let’s stop this topic here, and we’ll start class,” seeing the conversation turning delicate, Lou Youpeng quickly intervened.
Seeing the unease and fear on Wen Yimeng’s face, Wen Yunqing’s expression instantly turned cold. Ignoring Lou Youpeng who was starting the lesson, she directly stood up, grabbed Li Ruolan’s collar, and dragged her out as if dragging trash.
“What are you doing? Let go…” Before Li Ruolan could finish speaking, she felt her collar tighten, making it hard to breathe.
“Teacher Lou, should we try to stop them? Classmate Wen’s expression looks quite terrifying…” the Class Monitor said weakly. He could almost see killing intent radiating from her face.
Lou Youpeng’s face changed slightly. “You all stay here; I’ll go check the situation.” Wen Yimeng didn’t have time to think too much at this moment and immediately chased after them. She couldn’t let Wen Yunqing make a mistake at school.
Once the involved parties and the teacher left, the discussion in the classroom grew noticeably louder.
“What did Li Ruolan mean just now? Does that mean Wen Yimeng isn’t the Wen family’s child?”
“I’m not sure. Judging by her tone, it sounds like Wen Yunqing is the biological one?”
“Isn’t that too dramatic? Could they have been switched at birth?”
“But that doesn’t make sense. If Wen Yimeng isn’t biological, why did Wen Yunqing drag Li Ruolan away, looking like she was about to eat someone?”
On the other side, Wen Yunqing was indeed very angry while dragging Li Ruolan, but upon seeing the two chasing after them, she managed to suppress her rage and tossed Li Ruolan into a corner by the wall.
“Classmate Wen, calm down a little. Whatever it is, we can sit down and discuss it slowly. Don’t act rashly,” Lou Youpeng, as the head teacher, knew the status of the Li family and the Wen family. If possible, he didn’t want to offend either side.
“Discuss slowly?” Wen Yunqing scoffed, looking at Li Ruolan, who was already huddled into a ball in the corner. “I’ll ask you: can you keep your mouth shut forever?”
Li Ruolan sat blankly on the ground, not reacting. She was truly terrified. While being dragged, her neck was held tightly, and she almost suffocated.
“Not answering?” Wen Yunqing frowned; she was very dissatisfied with Li Ruolan’s reaction.
“Wen Yunqing, calm down,” Wen Yimeng stepped forward and grabbed her hand, her hand trembling slightly. She had never seen this version of Wen Yunqing before; just standing there gave off an invisible sense of oppression.
“Yimeng, I think someone is rejecting a toast only to demand a penalty drink,” Wen Yunqing controlled her tone to sound as peaceful as possible. “Why don’t we just resolve this completely in one go? Otherwise, she’ll always be hopping around in front of me, which is very irritating.”
“Classmate Wen, this is a school. Please control your behavior,” Lou Youpeng might fear the students’ family backgrounds, but he also had his dignity. Bullying a student in front of him, he had to step forward to stop it.
“What did I do?” Wen Yunqing looked at Lou Youpeng. Her gaze wasn’t particularly friendly. This head teacher seemed okay, but only just okay. He wouldn’t interfere with what students with backgrounds did, as long as certain things didn’t happen in front of him, he would pretend not to know. To give the simplest example, everyone in the class knew Zhang Yao was harassing Zhou Jun, so there was no reason Lou Youpeng wouldn’t know. But the reality was, if Wen Yunqing hadn’t transferred and stuck her nose in to help Zhou Jun, Zhou Jun might still be getting bullied.
Indeed, upon meeting Wen Yunqing’s unfriendly gaze, Lou Youpeng fell silent. He didn’t want to offend this person who was potentially the Wen family’s true eldest daughter.
“Yimeng, try to persuade your cousin. There are surveillance cameras nearby. If your cousin does anything, she will have to take responsibility,” Lou Youpeng could only shift his approach and appeal to Wen Yimeng.
“Teacher Lou, since you liked to pretend not to see before, perhaps you should pretend not to see today as well,” Wen Yunqing spoke first, cutting him off. “If you really intend to interfere in our grudges, please be prepared for the consequences.”
Lou Youpeng didn’t dare confront Wen Yunqing and instead looked at Wen Yimeng with pleading eyes, hoping she could persuade Wen Yunqing not to act impulsively.
“Yimeng, what do you want me to do? Stop now, or teach Li Ruolan a lasting lesson?” Wen Yunqing asked patiently. She was upset on Wen Yimeng’s behalf, so she would respect the person’s decision and wouldn’t make things difficult for her.
Wen Yimeng remained silent. She looked down at Li Ruolan, who was almost curled into a ball, and the panicked and uneasy feeling she had earlier dissipated for the most part.
“Forget it. She has a point; I am indeed not biological,” Wen Yimeng slowly exhaled. “Wen Yunqing, thank you for being willing to stand up for me. What you’ve done is enough.” In reality, it was her fault from the beginning; she was too timid and kept avoiding the truth, which gave Li Ruolan an opportunity. She should learn to face reality, not hide and deceive herself.
“Yimeng, I was wrong! I won’t speak ill of you again. Can you forgive me?” Hearing Wen Yimeng’s words, Li Ruolan felt her chance had arrived and rushed to kneel before her, begging. She knew Wen Yimeng was the softest-hearted person; as long as she was sincere and pitiable, Wen Yimeng would surely forgive her.
“What you do from now on is your own business; it has nothing to do with me,” Wen Yimeng stopped Wen Yunqing not because she wanted to let Li Ruolan go, but because she didn’t want Wen Yunqing to commit any rule-breaking or illegal acts for her sake. “I don’t advocate solving problems with violence, but that doesn’t mean I won’t use other methods to solve problems.” Wen Yimeng said, taking Wen Yunqing’s hand. “Let’s go back to the classroom.”
Wen Yunqing was slightly dissatisfied with this outcome. This Li Ruolan clearly wasn’t a good person; if she wasn’t dealt with completely now, she would definitely cause trouble again later. However, since her darling Yimeng had spoken, she would reluctantly spare her this once.
“Next time I run into you off-campus, you understand the consequences,” Wen Yunqing, who had the potential to be a villain, left Li Ruolan with a meaningful parting shot.
Li Ruolan kept her head down. The suffocating feeling from being dragged on the road was enough for her to remember for a lifetime; at that moment, she truly felt she was one step away from death.
After Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng left, Lou Youpeng finally dared to speak. “Li Ruolan, I’m going to contact your parents. You go to the hospital for a check-up.” Li Ruolan didn’t respond. Lou Youpeng, why was he such a useless head teacher, scared off by a few words from Wen Yunqing? What an imbecile.
“Get up. Go rest in my office first,” Lou Youpeng felt awkward himself. At this school, teachers without background connections like them only had a slightly higher status than students on financial aid. Li Ruolan silently clenched her fists, then slowly stood up and followed behind Lou Youpeng.
With the situation escalating like this, the lesson couldn’t proceed. For the students in Class One, simply staying in the classroom without leaving was already a rare feat.
“You’re back. Where is Li Ruolan? How is she?” The Sports Committee Member asked with curiosity. The time they were gone was enough for them to process the news. The smarter students had already figured out that Wen Yunqing and Wen Yimeng had an extremely good relationship, and the fact that they came to school together already indicated the attitude of the Wen family elders to some extent. In that case, even if they were truly switched, it probably wasn’t a major issue for the Wen family; it was just having one more daughter.
“She probably went with Teacher Lou,” Wen Yimeng felt much more relaxed now that her identity was public knowledge.
“Um, is Li Ruolan okay?” a girl whispered.
“She’s fine. I just scared her a little; I didn’t do anything to her,” Wen Yunqing said, returning to her seat. “But I’m only letting her off this once. There won’t be a next time.”
The classmates exchanged glances. They couldn’t quite grasp Wen Yunqing’s words, which bordered on being reckless.
“Classmate Wen, this is still a school, and Li Ruolan’s family has some standing too. It’s fine to scare her, but don’t actually do anything to her,” a girl kindly reminded her. After all, information spreads fast now. If solid evidence were obtained and made public, even with a rich family, one couldn’t escape unscathed.
Wen Yunqing nodded. She understood these principles, of course. But if she had taken action, she would definitely have cleaned up the aftermath. Her arrogance stemmed from her confidence in her own abilities. If there was surveillance footage, she would destroy it directly. If there were eyewitnesses, it would be even simpler: she would just cast an enchantment on them, turning them into her own witnesses.
About ten minutes later, Lou Youpeng walked back with a grave expression. “Students, the teacher hopes you will not spread what happened today, nor discuss this matter excessively.” “Also, school is a place for learning. I hope the students will abide by the school rules here.” Lou Youpeng glanced at Wen Yunqing as he spoke. “Your family elders sent you here so you could study, not to engage in other activities.”
“That’s all I have to say. This class will now be a self-study session. If you have any academic problems, you can come ask me directly,” saying this, Lou Youpeng sat down at the podium and began preparing his lesson. Most students in the class took the teacher’s words to heart, as they were indeed at school to learn, and they generally respected their teachers.
Zhou Jun had been called away right as class started, and she didn’t return until five minutes before the period ended, a full thirty minutes later.
“Report,” Zhou Jun knocked on the door, her expression looking completely normal.
“Come in,” Lou Youpeng said. Zhou Jun walked to her seat and looked strangely at everyone, as they were studying on their own instead of attending the lesson. She couldn’t help but ask her deskmate.
The deskmate looked around mysteriously, then whispered a description of what had just happened.
Zhou Jun’s eyes widened. “Li Ruolan was dragged out by Wen Yunqing? Is she okay?” As someone who had witnessed Wen Yunqing’s combat strength, Zhou Jun didn’t doubt her words at all; if Wen Yunqing wanted to, she could definitely take down little kids with one punch.
“She seems fine. Li Ruolan has probably already been picked up by her family by now,” the deskmate whispered. “Wen Yunqing is so brave, daring to do that right in front of the teacher.”
“But this matter certainly won’t end easily. The teacher won’t dare do anything to her, but the Li family won’t easily let this go once they find out,” the deskmate sighed.
“By the way, how did it go on your end? Who reported you for cheating?” the deskmate asked.
“Someone left the footage of me entering the printing room at the Academic Affairs Office door, and also left a report letter,” Zhou Jun explained. “I simply explained to the teacher what I was doing in the printing room, then did a few practice problems, and then I came back.” Zhou Jun had worked part-time in the printing room for a semester during her second year of high school, and the people there quite liked the young girl, so they always printed for her for free. Zhou Jun herself had developed the habit of going to the printing room due to her financial situation. This time, the report was completely a side effect of being envied by someone. After she explained clearly, the Academic Affairs Office did not pursue the matter further. Of course, the most important reason was that Zhou Jun’s academic performance was already outstanding; her ability was self-evident, so the teachers naturally believed her once she gave a reason.
The deskmate couldn’t help but shake her head. “Since this matter has nothing to do with Li Ruolan, she just shouldn’t have been so gossipy. She just had to be sarcastic and stir things up, provoking someone she shouldn’t have.” However, although the Li family was weaker than the Wen family, they were still a wealthy family, so they wondered how the Li family would vent their anger.
