I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 36
It was already 1:08 PM.
So hungry…
Tang Fuzhi picked up her chopsticks, ready to eat, but Tao Ran stopped her.
After reading the instructions, Tao Ran opened the ointment, scooped a bit of the soft white cream onto her index finger, and smiled. Though the smile seemed gentle, Tang Fuzhi sensed an underlying mischief.
“Let’s apply the ointment first.”
“Applying the ointment sooner is always better,” Tao Ran said, holding the tube of ointment in one hand and raising a fingertip already smeared with the cream toward Tang Fuzhi, a faint smile playing on her lips. “The longer you wait, the worse it is for the wound.”
Tang Fuzhi stiffened, remembering Tao Ran’s earlier comment about potential scarring.
She closed her eyes and nodded resolutely.
Well, I’m going to have to apply it sooner or later. Might as well get it over with now.
Back in the bedroom, Tang Fuzhi sat rigidly on the bed, her hands folded primly in her lap, looking as tense as a schoolchild facing a teacher’s roll call.
Tao Ran chuckled. “Relax, I’m not going to bite.”
Something in her words seemed to trigger Tang Fuzhi, who straightened her back even further.
Amused, Tao Ran fell silent and stepped closer. Just as she reached for the hem of Tang Fuzhi’s skirt, Tang Fuzhi grabbed her wrist.
Tao Ran’s delicate fingertips brushed against Tang Fuzhi’s slender wrist. Tang Fuzhi looked up, her pearly teeth gently biting her lower lip as she stammered, “I… I can do it myself.”
Sensing the young woman’s resistance, Tao Ran softened her voice. “I caused this injury. It’s only right that I should make amends.”
Tang Fuzhi glanced at Tao Ran, her beautiful peach blossom eyes brimming with apology before quickly averting her gaze.
The corners of Tao Ran’s lips subtly curved upward, yet her voice deepened further. “Or… do you not trust me?”
Though Tang Fuzhi deliberately avoided looking at Tao Ran’s face, she could still detect the hurt in her voice.
Tang Fuzhi couldn’t bear it any longer and finally looked up at Tao Ran. The moment she did, Tao Ran immediately lowered her eyes, suppressing her smile. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, as if she truly regretted her mistake.
For a fleeting moment, Tang Fuzhi’s heart softened.
Businesspeople valued speed, precision, and ruthlessness, especially when seizing fleeting opportunities.
Capitalizing on Tang Fuzhi’s momentary weakness, Tao Ran had already slipped off her nightgown and applied white ointment to the slightly swollen area.
The cool ointment offered Tang Fuzhi some relief from the pain.
The white cream and crimson flower pistil rested on Tao Ran’s slender, well-defined fingertips. Feeling acutely embarrassed, Tang Fuzhi silently averted her gaze, staring at the corner of the wall.
Her hands clenched into fists, she suppressed the urge to flee, held her breath, and remained rigid.
After what felt like an eternity, the ointment was finally applied.
Tang Fuzhi’s fists loosened slightly as she exhaled in relief. She quickly reached for her nightgown, intending to put it on, but Tao Ran stopped her.
Following the woman’s slender yet strong arm, Tang Fuzhi met her gaze, her eyes flickering with confusion, as if asking, “What’s wrong?”
A faint smile curved Tao Ran’s lips as her gaze drifted across Tang Fuzhi’s chest. Instinctively, Tang Fuzhi released her grip and turned sideways, trying to evade Tao Ran’s gaze.
“Putting on clothes will rub off the ointment,” Tao Ran said. “Then it won’t be effective.”
Tang Fuzhi stared at her in disbelief, then realized that her movement had only brought her back into Tao Ran’s line of sight. She quickly turned away again, scooting back slightly.
Suppressing her shame, she asked, “Are you saying I should go out to eat like this?”
“Who eats naked?” Tang Fuzhi retorted, especially when someone else is around.
Though she couldn’t see Tao Ran’s face, Tang Fuzhi could clearly see the slight tremor in the girl’s pale, flawless back as she sat sideways. A hint of amusement flickered in Tao Ran’s eyes as she parted her lips to say, “There’s no one else here.”
Tang Fuzhi instinctively snapped back, “But you…”
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them.
Even when Tang Fuzhi hadn’t said anything wrong, Tao Ran would often adopt a pitiful expression. Now that she had actually made a mistake, Tao Ran would undoubtedly seize the opportunity to exploit it.
True to form, Tao Ran sat beside her and, taking advantage of Tang Fuzhi’s averted gaze, secretly tossed aside her nightgown. Gazing at the girl’s long, soft black hair, she looked up and asked, “Is your girlfriend a stranger?”
Tang Fuzhi pressed her lips together and swiftly shifted the blame. “It’s all your fault! Why did you have to be so rough?”
The girl’s voice was soft and sweet, sounding more like a playful tease than a genuine complaint.
Tao Ran rubbed her thumb against her index finger, recalling the earlier sensation. Her hand tingled with the urge to pinch the girl’s cheek.
But Tang Fuzhi’s skin was so delicate that even applying ointment made her earlobes flush crimson, her embarrassment overwhelming. If they ever did anything more intimate, would her entire body turn red?
Tao Ran didn’t want to push the young woman too hard. She walked to the living room, brought Tang Fuzhi’s lunch to her, and then stepped outside, saying gently, “The ointment should be absorbed in about half an hour. You can get dressed right after you finish eating.”
While Tao Ran had admittedly enjoyed the opportunity to touch Tang Fuzhi, she was also being truthful. The ointment would easily rub off if she put her clothes on too soon.
Hearing the door close behind her, Tang Fuzhi finally relaxed her stiff posture.
She turned around and saw lunch already laid out on the table. Her stomach, which had been growling with hunger, flattened slightly as she picked up her chopsticks and began to eat.
After finishing, Tang Fuzhi glanced down. The white ointment had faded slightly, indicating absorption.
Though a small amount remained unabsorbed, she decided it wouldn’t matter and slipped on her nightgown.
As soon as she stepped out of the room, she met Tao Ran’s smiling eyes. Remembering what had just happened, Tang Fuzhi pressed her lips together, refusing to initiate conversation.
Tao Ran walked up to Tang Fuzhi and reached out to take her hand.
The young woman stiffened slightly but didn’t pull away. Her soft, warm hand felt just like her personality.
Tao Ran instinctively squeezed Tang Fuzhi’s hand, immediately earning a glare from the young woman.
Not at all fierce, actually kind of cute.
Tao Ran led Tang Fuzhi to the sofa, placing her hands on the young woman’s shoulders to guide her down. “I haven’t asked yet, why did you suddenly come over last night? Weren’t you supposed to have your checkup today?”
Then, Tao Ran wrapped her arms around Tang Fuzhi from behind, her hands deliberately settling on the young woman’s waist and abdomen, avoiding the wound.
Tang Fuzhi felt a warmth spread through her heart and didn’t resist. “I already had my checkup with Doctor Zheng yesterday.”
As for why she had suddenly come over, if it had been before, Tang Fuzhi would have told the truth. Though a little shy, she had always been honest. If she missed Tao Ran, she would say so.
But now, still a little angry with Tao Ran, she didn’t want to sweet-talk her.
Tao Ran chuckled softly, resting her chin on Tang Fuzhi’s shoulder, her breath brushing against the strands of hair near her ear. Knowing the young woman was still upset, she coaxed, “I’m so glad you came.”
Tang Fuzhi felt a little pathetic. Tao Ran had barely started coaxing her, and already the corners of her mouth were twitching upward, unable to hide her smile.
Then she felt Tao Ran’s warm breath brush against her neck, tickling slightly.
“Last night was the best sleep I’ve had in days.”
Tang Fuzhi noticed the dark circles under Tao Ran’s eyes and knew she was telling the truth, though she had always assumed it was due to overwork.
The young woman pursed her lips and asked slowly, “You’re not sleeping well… is it really not because of work?”
Tao Ran chuckled softly, the vibration in her throat traveling from her shoulder to Tang Fuzhi’s heart, making it tremble. The woman’s low, husky voice was incredibly soothing, with a hint of magnetism that made Tang Fuzhi’s ears tingle.
“Work is important, but it’s not overwhelming. I just haven’t been sleeping well these past two nights.”
Leaning against Tang Fuzhi, Tao Ran’s words were somewhat deliberate, yet undeniably true. She suffered from severe insomnia, finding momentary peace only when she was near Tang Fuzhi.
Tang Fuzhi’s fingertips twitched slightly. Though she suspected Tao Ran was deliberately trying to coax her, she couldn’t deny… it was working.
After all, who wouldn’t love the feeling of being cherished by their girlfriend?
Tao Ran caught the faint curve of the young woman’s lips in her peripheral vision and smiled inwardly. She pressed a kiss to the corner of Tang Fuzhi’s mouth. “If you’re bored, Xu Rujia can show you around H City. I have some work matters to attend to shortly.”
He Ruo had just informed her that Senior President Huo had requested her presence at the Huo Group.
Tang Fuzhi’s face fell. She had suspected Tao Ran was busy with work and might not have much time for her, but hearing she was leaving still made her a little unhappy.
The young girl’s emotions were as clear as day, written all over her face. Just moments ago, she had looked ready to confront Tao Ran, but now that she knew she was leaving, she couldn’t bear to let her go.
In truth, Tao Ran didn’t want to leave Tang Fuzhi either.
Senior President Huo’s matter was both trivial and significant. It was just a casual remark from the older generation, but it was also important because she didn’t want Tang Fuzhi to misunderstand.
Tao Ran’s eyes darkened slightly as she reached out to stroke the girl’s soft hair. “I promise I’ll be back soon,” she said gently. “Wait for me, okay?”
Though still a bit disappointed, Tang Fuzhi considered herself an understanding girlfriend and nodded.
Only then did Tao Ran feel comfortable changing her clothes. After a night’s sleep, the dark circles under her eyes had faded somewhat, but her pale skin made even the slightest marks noticeable.
She quickly applied some light makeup to conceal the remaining shadows before leaving.
The spacious room fell silent again, Tang Fuzhi’s eyebrows drooping visibly with disappointment.
Fortunately, Xu Rujia soon arrived, bearing a tray of sweet pastries.
Tang Fuzhi’s eyes lit up. She had to admit, delicious desserts really did lift her spirits. “Why did you buy so much?”
Xu Rujia, who already looked young for her age, seemed even more like a high school student when she smiled. She patted her chest confidently. “Don’t worry, eat as much as you want. I’ll take care of whatever’s left.”
Tang Fuzhi immediately recalled yesterday’s breakfast. Xu Rujia might look petite and adorable, but she could certainly pack away a surprising amount of food.
With Xu Rujia’s company, Tang Fuzhi’s mood brightened. They settled in to watch TV together.
The soap opera on screen was as melodramatic as ever, but its over-the-top drama was also its charm. Tang Fuzhi found herself increasingly engrossed.
Just as they were getting really into the show, a knock sounded at the hotel door.
Tang Fuzhi and Xu Rujia exchanged puzzled glances.
They only knew He Ruo and Tao Ran here, and both were at work. There shouldn’t be anyone looking for them.
Then Tang Fuzhi remembered: Tao Ran had booked this room. Maybe someone was here to see her.
She got up and opened the door. Standing before her was a girl in a long white gown, her hair styled in an elaborate princess updo topped with a delicate crown. Pink diamonds glittered on the crown, clearly indicating its great value.
The young woman’s face was radiant with a smile, her features delicate and refined. Her round, bright eyes added to her charm, making her appear no older than seventeen or eighteen.
“Hello, is Tao Ran here?” she asked politely, making it impossible to dislike her.
But Tang Fuzhi’s smile froze.
She recognized the perfume the young woman was wearing. It was exactly the same scent she’d detected on Tao Ran’s shirt the night before.
