I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 29
Tang Fuzhi turned toward the voice. The girl wore a bohemian-style long dress, her pink hair cascading down her back. With her classic oval face and sunny smile, she looked both familiar and unfamiliar compared to the photo Tao Ran had shown her.
The photo Tao Ran had shown her was Tang Fuyu’s high school graduation picture. In that photo, Tang Fuyu still had long black hair, thick bangs, and black-rimmed glasses, dressed in the standard national school uniform, the picture of a model student.
According to Tao Ran’s records, Tang Fuyu was eighteen years old, having just finished her college entrance exams in June. It was now August.
Such a dramatic transformation in just two or three months.
Tao Ran was also somewhat surprised. Since Tang Fuzhi’s hospitalization, she hadn’t had much contact with the Tang family, communicating only occasionally by phone. She hadn’t been aware of Tang Fuyu’s recent changes.
Noticing their gazes, Tang Fuyu self-consciously touched her pink hair and stepped forward, naturally looping her arm through Tang Fuzhi’s.
“Sister, Mom and Dad just don’t understand. You’ll support me dyeing my hair, right?” Though they weren’t blood-related, perhaps because they’d been together for so long, Tang Fuyu’s smile bore a striking resemblance to Tang Fuzhi’s. “Now that the college entrance exams are over, it’s time to do all the things I’ve always wanted to do but never could.”
Tang Fuzhi found herself agreeing with this sentiment.
Tao Ran watched Tang Fuyu clinging to Tang Fuzhi, her eye twitching. She stepped forward and gently separated them. “Just talk, don’t keep sticking to your sister like that.”
Tang Fuyu looked at Tao Ran in surprise. In just three months, has Tao Ran-jie evolved from secretly jealous to openly possessive? she wondered. Or has she finally decided to confess her feelings to my sister?
Despite these thoughts, Tang Fuyu maintained a flawless facade. After seeing Tao Ran off, the three of them entered the dessert shop.
The shop’s decor was entirely in pastel macaron hues, with display cases showcasing beautifully crafted models that looked utterly delicious. Warm yellow lighting bathed the interior in a cozy, inviting glow.
Since it was a weekday, the shop wasn’t crowded. The trio casually settled into an empty booth.
The three of them…
Tang Fuyu glanced at Xu Rujia, who was sitting beside Tang Fuzhi. At first, she’d thought it was just a coincidence that they were standing together, but when she saw Xu Rujia sit down, she knew something was wrong.
“Sister, who’s this?”
Xu Rujia had just arrived at work and was delighted to find desserts waiting. She happily picked up the menu, ready to order, when she was suddenly addressed.
She looked around, then at Tang Fuyu, confirming that Tang Fuyu was talking to her.
Whether it was her imagination or not, Xu Rujia sensed a hint of hostility in Tang Fuyu’s gaze.
Tang Fuzhi suddenly remembered she hadn’t introduced them. “This is my friend, Xu Rujia.”
There was no need to mention Xu Rujia’s part-time job as a driver and bodyguard; it sounded too exaggerated.
Hearing this, Tang Fuyu’s expression darkened. She whined, “Sister, we’re supposed to be having a sisterly chat. Why bring a stranger along?”
Tang Fuzhi paused, glancing down at Xu Rujia before looking back at Tang Fuyu. Her beautiful amber eyes were clear and bright. “We’re just having a casual chat between sisters. Is there anything we can’t let Jia Jia hear?”
Tang Fuzhi thought a casual chat would be just that: everyday chatter about recent events, happy moments, and frustrations.
Things like that.
But with no memories, she had nothing substantial to discuss with her sister.
Her primary reason for coming out today was to see if she could find any sense of familiarity with the family member she had grown up with.
Tang Fuzhi carefully observed Tang Fuyu, from her facial features to her tone of voice.
Nothing. Absolutely no sense of familiarity.
Completely different from Tao Ran.
The moment she heard Tao Ran’s name, she felt a faint sense of recognition, and when she saw Tao Ran, a deep sense of closeness welled up within her. But she felt none of that with this sister.
Yet she had only known Tao Ran for four years, while according to Tao Ran, she and her sister had grown up together, knowing each other for eighteen years.
According to Tao Ran’s records, the sisters’ relationship had been neither particularly close nor particularly strained before Tang Fuyu turned nineteen.
But after Tang Fuyu fell into the water that year, and Tang Fuzhi nearly drowned trying to save her, their bond deepened dramatically. Tang Fuyu became even more clingy toward her sister.
Yet Tang Fuzhi felt no sense of familiarity with this younger sister.
As Tang Fuzhi sank into thought, Tang Fuyu pouted, “You’ve been out playing for three months. Am I not your favorite sister anymore?”
Tang Fuzhi couldn’t help but smile, a little amused and a little exasperated.
Tang Fuyu muttered under her breath, “I don’t understand why Tao Ran let her come with you.”
Before, Tao Ran would get jealous whenever Tang Fuyu got too close to Tang Fuzhi. So why was it okay now that this Xu Rujia was around?
“Because I’m Madam Boss’s friend… and part-time driver,” Xu Rujia replied evasively. “Madam Boss needs me to pick up President Tao later, so she’s relying on me.”
Tang Fuyu’s eyes widened, and she stammered, “M-M-Madam Boss?! Did Tao Ran finally confess to you?!”
Now it was Tang Fuzhi’s turn to be surprised. Her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly as she asked, “Tao Ran and I have been together for a long time. Didn’t you know?”
They had been together for four years. She had assumed her family knew.
And they were even living together.
Tang Fuyu suddenly understood. No wonder Tao Ran had been so relaxed about letting Tang Fuzhi go out with Xu Rujia. They had already made things official long ago.
But…
“When did you two get together?”
Damn it! As their biggest fan, how could she not know?
“About four years ago, I think,” Tang Fuzhi said uncertainly.
Tao Ran rarely spoke about her life before the amnesia, only vaguely recalling that they had been dating for four years.
Tang Fuyu felt like she was living in a dream today, even more surreal than the day she came home with pink hair. “That’s impossible! Just… just in May, you weren’t together yet!”
She remembered it clearly. In May, they had even argued because Tao Ran had confessed her feelings.
Tang Fuzhi glanced at Xu Rujia, meeting her confused gaze. She suddenly remembered that Xu Rujia had only just met her and knew nothing about their history.
“How do you know?”
It was August now, and May had been exactly three months ago, right before her car accident.
“Back in May, you and Tao Ran had a fight. I don’t know why, but it seemed like Tao Ran confessed her feelings to you, and you rejected her.” Tang Fuyu met Tang Fuzhi’s somewhat stern gaze, thinking she might have said something wrong. She grew uncertain. “What’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?”
Tang Fuzhi carefully observed Tang Fuyu’s expression, convinced she wasn’t lying. Besides, there was no reason to lie about something like this.
She shook her head, forcing a smile. “It’s nothing. It’s just been a while, and I don’t remember it very clearly.”
She took a sip of her iced water, thinking she’d ask Tao Ran about it when she got off work.
She didn’t want to condemn Tao Ran based solely on Tang Fuyu’s account. There might be some hidden circumstances.
Tang Fuyu found it odd. Three months wasn’t that long ago, was it?
Even if the incident three months ago was a misunderstanding, how could she have remained completely unaware of their relationship for the past four years if they had been together?
Though these thoughts swirled in her mind, Tang Fuyu’s instincts as the head of their fan club told her it was best to leave this matter to Tao Ran to handle.
Tang Fuyu laughed, trying to brush the matter aside. “After all, I wasn’t there when you two argued. Maybe I misunderstood. If you can’t remember clearly, you can always ask Tao Ran later. You live together, so you can see her anytime.”
Tang Fuyu’s words made Tang Fuzhi even more inclined to believe she had been mistaken. The unease in her heart eased slightly, and the smile on her face no longer felt so forced.
Xu Rujia’s dessert had already arrived. Whether it tasted good or not was another matter, but its appearance was identical to the display case, vibrant and visually appealing.
Each of them received a different sweet soup, all bursting with sugar.
With the Tao Ran issue glossed over, the atmosphere among the three remained relatively friendly.
Though Tang Fuzhi wasn’t very familiar with Tang Fuyu, the younger woman was clearly well-acquainted with her. Chatting about everyday things proved surprisingly enjoyable.
It turned out that Tang Fuzhi’s three-month absence had coincided with Tang Fuyu’s college entrance exams and the release of the results.
Tang Fuyu expressed some regret. “Three months ago, Tao Ran suddenly said you had to go abroad for further studies and told us not to disturb you. You didn’t even come to my exams.”
Though her parents were there, her sister Tang Fuzhi was still a very important member of her family. If possible, she really wanted her sister by her side during one of the most important moments of her life.
Tang Fuzhi awkwardly patted her head, mimicking the way Tao Ran often did. “Even though I missed your college entrance exam, I can definitely attend your graduation banquet.”
She remembered that Tao Ran had mentioned Tang Fuyu hadn’t held her graduation banquet yet.
Comforted by her sister’s words, Tang Fuyu finally seemed a bit happier. She affectionately wrapped her arm around Tang Fuzhi’s. “You’re the best, Sis.”
Tang Fuzhi stiffened slightly, still not entirely used to such physical closeness. But since this was her younger sister, whom she’d grown up with, she couldn’t really push her away.
Their relationship was still good, and Tang Fuzhi had no reason to reject her.
“Oh, right, Sis, how was your advanced studies? Did your painting skills improve a lot?”
They hadn’t improved at all. In fact, due to her amnesia, they might have even regressed a bit.
But she replied evasively, “I guess so.”
Tang Fuyu was a very talkative person, and the afternoon flew by. She glanced at the time.
4:25 PM
Tang Fuzhi stood up and patted Xu Rujia, who was scrolling through her phone while still working on desserts. “Tao Ran’s about to get off work. I promised to pick her up from the office.”
Though Tang Fuyu felt a pang of regret at not being able to continue chatting with her sister, hearing that Tang Fuzhi was leaving to pick up Tao Ran eased her disappointment. She teased, “Being in love really changes you. You’re just overflowing with PDA.”
Tang Fuzhi’s earlobes flushed slightly, the first time she’d been teased like this in public.
After parting ways with Tang Fuyu, Xu Rujia, well-fed and content, drove Tang Fuzhi to Tao Ran’s company.
Having visited once before, Tang Fuzhi now navigated the building with ease, knowing the floor and exact location of Tao Ran’s office.
He Ruo’s eyes lit up at the sight of Tang Fuzhi, and she hurried to greet her. “Miss Tang, President Tao is waiting for you in her office.”
Looks like I won’t have to work late tonight, He Ruo thought.
Tang Fuzhi nodded her thanks and proceeded to the office, leaving Xu Rujia outside.
Inside the office, Tao Ran had been staring at her watch since exactly 5:00 PM.
As each minute ticked by, she began to doubt if Tang Fuzhi had forgotten about her. Could she be having too much fun chatting with Tang Fuyu, forgetting she has a girlfriend waiting in the office?
The more she thought about it, the more anxious Tao Ran became. If she hadn’t been constantly checking the time, she would have sworn two hours had passed instead of just two minutes.
Should I call to check?
But only two minutes had passed. Would calling now make her seem too petty?
Tao Ran sighed, feeling Tang Fuyu’s presence was a bit of a nuisance for the first time.
Just as Tao Ran was wrestling with her thoughts, the office door opened. Tao Ran looked up and met Tang Fuzhi’s smiling eyes. It was clear she’d had a good time chatting this afternoon.
Tang Fuzhi rushed over, casually placing a takeout box of desserts on the desk. Tao Ran quickly opened her arms to catch the girl in a hug.
The anxiety that had been building up while waiting instantly subsided.
“How was it? Did you have a good time?”
“Tao Ran, I missed you so much.”
