I Got A Girlfriend After Losing My Memory (Transmigration) - Chapter 15
As Tang Fuzhi spoke, her amber eyes locked firmly on Tao Ran’s.
Having known Tang Fuzhi for four years, Tao Ran naturally understood her well. She could see the unwavering determination and resolve in her eyes.
They stared at each other in silence, neither speaking.
After a long moment, Tao Ran finally relented with a sigh. “Alright.”
Tang Fuzhi’s eyes lit up at the answer she wanted. She had expected to have to argue more. “Really?!”
Tao Ran ruffled Tang Fuzhi’s hair. The girl’s long locks were as smooth and lustrous as silk. She bent down, pressing her forehead against Tang Fuzhi’s.
“Would I lie to you? But I do have some conditions.”
Tang Fuzhi’s eyes dimmed slightly, and she pursed her lips.
I knew it wouldn’t be that simple.
“Tell me first.”
“First, your leg hasn’t fully recovered. I’ll stay home this week to take care of you. We’ll go to the hospital later for a checkup to make sure everything’s fine before I go to work.”
Tang Fuzhi nodded. Her leg wasn’t completely healed yet, and it was indeed difficult for her to manage alone.
“Second, your phone must be on and with you at all times. You can’t miss my calls.”
She couldn’t endure another experience like that: the unanswered calls, the frantic search, and finally, the hospital’s call.
Seeing Tang Fuzhi lying in the hospital bed, covered in blood and barely clinging to life.
Tang Fuzhi couldn’t decipher the complex emotions in Tao Ran’s eyes, but she sensed something unspoken. She pressed her lips together and nodded.
“Third, I’ll assign you a driver in a couple of days. You must take her with you whenever you go out.”
Though called a driver, she was more like a bodyguard.
Tang Fuzhi instantly recalled Tao Ran’s words from yesterday, when she had first woken up.
Her car accident hadn’t been an accident.
Initially, she hadn’t fully grasped the possibility that the accident might have been deliberate. But now that Tao Ran had brought it up again, and was even preparing to assign her a bodyguard, a sense of unease began to creep in.
“Is it really that dangerous?”
The girl’s clear eyes met Tao Ran’s, their depths untainted, as pure as a child’s.
Tao Ran closed her eyes, recalling the past three months of investigation. When she opened them again, her hands unconsciously tightened on Tang Fuzhi’s shoulders. “I don’t know for sure, but I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
Tang Fuzhi nodded slowly, as if only half understanding.
Come to think of it, though Tao Ran had made three requests, each one was clearly motivated by concern for her well-being.
A warmth spread through Tang Fuzhi’s heart.
Tao Ran held her close, stroking her hair, her beautiful peach blossom eyes fixed intently on Tang Fuzhi. “I’m going back to the office next week. Can you spend this week with me?”
She had already made a concession, so asking for a small perk before she returned to work didn’t seem like too much to ask, right?
Perk…
The word, combined with Tao Ran’s actions over the past few days, made it hard not to let one’s mind wander.
Tang Fuzhi’s cheeks flushed slightly. It wasn’t that she resisted Tao Ran’s closeness, but she was naturally shy. She deliberately looked away, avoiding Tao Ran’s gaze, and mumbled softly, “Your work isn’t for me.”
They were so close that Tao Ran could hear Tang Fuzhi’s breathing, let alone her soft murmur.
But she pretended not to hear clearly. “What did you say?”
Tang Fuzhi quickly covered her mouth, looking like a pitiful little thing being bullied. “Nothing. What kind of perk do you want?”
Remembering Tao Ran’s earlier behavior, Tang Fuzhi quickly added before she could answer, her amber eyes wide and round, “Nothing too outrageous.”
Even a cornered rabbit will bite, a truth Tao Ran naturally understood.
Her eyes darted around as she proposed a compromise. “Then let’s just do what we did today.”
“What do you mean by ‘the same’?” Tang Fuzhi was genuinely confused by this request.
A smirk tugged at Tao Ran’s lips. “Sleep together. And you can’t kick me out anymore.”
If it was just sleeping together like last night, Tang Fuzhi could accept that.
“A goodnight kiss before bed, a good morning kiss when we wake up, and a goodbye kiss before work.”
This was also acceptable, but Tang Fuzhi couldn’t help but feel a little exasperated. “Are you some kind of kiss fiend?”
At this rate, we’d be kissing at least four or five times a day. Won’t our lips get sore?
Under Tao Ran’s threatening glare, Tang Fuzhi pouted and nodded silently in agreement, looking like a bullied little wife.
“Lastly,” Tao Ran paused, Tang Fuzhi looked up at her, and she raised an eyebrow with a smile. “Will you keep me company in the study these next two days?”
The thought of not being able to be with Tang Fuzhi every moment after next week still made Tao Ran feel a little down.
Tang Fuzhi breathed a sigh of relief. She had feared Tao Ran would make some even more outrageous demands. Just keeping her company in the study wasn’t a big deal.
Besides…
Tang Fuzhi subconsciously reached into her pocket for her phone, remembering the commission she’d just agreed to. Her drawing tablet was still connected to her desktop computer in the study.
With that thought, Tang Fuzhi nodded.
Tao Ran was beaming with delight, but her smile froze the next moment.
The young woman who had just obediently agreed to stay had already slipped out of her embrace and settled in front of the computer.
Tao Ran knew that spot well; it was Tang Fuzhi’s dedicated workspace.
Though the study wasn’t large, it was cleverly organized. An entire wall was lined with bookshelves filled with all sorts of books. In front of the shelves, the space was divided into two work areas: one for Tao Ran and one for Tang Fuzhi.
Tao Ran, who needed to work both at home and in the office, had opted for a laptop for convenience. But Tang Fuzhi’s primary income came from her art, and all her commissions were handled online. Since her work was relatively stationary, she had chosen a desktop computer.
There was another reason, of course. Digital art demanded higher precision from a computer, and for the same price, a desktop could be configured with better specs. For Tang Fuzhi, who was still just a sophomore in college at the time, value for money was crucial.
Back then, she hadn’t yet reclaimed the Tao Family, and Tang Fuzhi was still a little-known painter.
Tang Fuzhi tilted her head and smiled at Tao Ran. “I’ll keep you company here.”
The study wasn’t large, and their desks were close together. Though Tang Fuzhi had left her embrace, she was still right there, just a turn of the head away, just like before.
Tao Ran nodded with a hint of resignation, not pressing the matter further.
Tang Fuzhi turned on her computer, then finally took out her phone to carefully review the client’s detailed requirements.
The client was clearly a creative individual, providing extremely detailed specifications and even numerous reference images.
As Tang Fuzhi painted, Tao Ran worked on her own tasks, occasionally taking calls. Whether it was because they often worked this way before her amnesia, Tang Fuzhi remained completely unfazed.
The week passed quickly. Tang Fuzhi’s leg had fully recovered; she could walk ten thousand steps without discomfort. The agreed-upon time for her follow-up hospital checkup had arrived.
