- Chapter 12 - The Shocked Sister
When I arrived at the entrance hall with Nana, my older sister approached me.
“Please, Dahlia. Tell me about him. I want to speak with him, but Rix keeps talking the whole time.”
Following my sister’s gaze, I saw Lady Edith with her hood up speaking with my brother some distance away.
It seemed my brother had been waiting here for Lady Edith’s arrival, as if he had anticipated this would happen.
The fact that my brother, who had never shown any interest before, was going this far suggested his patience had finally run out over this matter.
The age of adulthood in the Kingdom of Yusers is eighteen, so he had planned to remain quiet until then, but his plans were disrupted.
“Sister, there’s no need to worry. Your intended message has been properly conveyed.”
“Just being conveyed isn’t enough!”
“If you distrust me that much, perhaps you shouldn’t have spoken to him at all?”
“Don’t say such mean things!”
My sister looked startled and stared at me.
“Are you still angry about having to marry in my place? Please think calmly! It’s not my fault!”
“I know, sister. You’re the victim who ‘was attacked by pirates,’ aren’t you?”
“Th-that’s right. But I truly feel sorry for you. Prince Edith seems to want an unsullied woman, so I wouldn’t be suitable anyway.”
As my sister began shedding tears, her maids rushed over with worried expressions and glared at me.
“Lady Dahlia, Lady Ramula is a delicate person. Please choose your words carefully.”
The head maid who appeared from behind spoke in a cold voice before joining the circle comforting my sister. I noticed Nana looked like she wanted to say something and stopped her.
“You haven’t been officially relieved of your maid duties yet, have you? If you say anything now, it will cause trouble. Besides, I can see their end coming.”
Once we leave here and everyone’s safety is confirmed, I intend to formally report this matter to Lady Edith and Their Majesties of the Rofeus Kingdom. Then my brother will expose our parents’ misdeeds, eliminate those involved, and punish those who participated in my sister’s lies. The head maid knows the pirate story is false, so she’ll definitely be dismissed.
“You’re here already.”
My brother approached and whispered in my ear.
“Since Father wouldn’t read the letter, I had a maid inform him that Prince Edith was coming. He should be arriving soon.”
“Well, once they know Lady Edith is here, they can’t very well not come.”
Given our parents’ nature, they’d come to see just how ugly the prince is.
“Um, excuse me!”
As my brother and Lady Edith separated, my sister tried to rush toward Lady Edith, but he pretended not to notice, positioned his sturdy soldiers around himself, and began speaking with the coachman.
“Hey! Rix! Do something about this!”
While my sister was complaining to my brother, our parents arrived with broad smiles. Mother approached my sister and asked quietly.
“Ramula, you’re here too. How was it? Did you see Prince Edith’s face? Was it as terrible as the rumors?”
“…Huh?”
My sister stared blankly at our father with her mouth agape.
“The man claiming to be the messenger was apparently Prince Edith. That’s why he was wearing his hood so low.”
Father answered quietly so Lady Edith wouldn’t hear, then smirked unpleasantly.
“W-wait a moment, Father! Are you saying that person wearing the hood is Lady Edith!?”
“According to Rix, that seems to be the case.”
Father nodded while looking curiously at my sister’s panicked expression, then turned his attention to my brother.
My brother answered with a smile playing on his lips.
“I’ve met Prince Edith several times. That is undoubtedly Prince Edith.”
“N-no! Th-then!”
Tears instantly welled up in my sister’s eyes. My brother gave her a brief cold glance before addressing Lady Edith.
“Prince Edith, my apologies for keeping you waiting. My father and mother wish to greet you.”
“That’s an honor.”
As Prince Edith responded, the soldiers simultaneously cleared a path for him. Prince Edith removed his hood as he approached us, stopping beside me and bowing to our parents.
“I am Edith Torune. I have come to welcome Princess Dahlia, who will become my wife.”
“N-no way!”
Instead of our speechless, shocked parents, my sister’s anguished cry echoed through the entrance hall.
