I Confessed to the Wrong Enigma, Then Got Pregnant as a Top Alpha [Transmigration] - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
The busy signal on the phone continued, and no one picked up. Due to the intense pain, a layer of fine, dense cold sweat broke out on Qi Ran’s forehead.
The very air seemed to have turned into poisonous needles, pricking him over and over; even breathing brought a wave of pain.
Unable to support himself, Qi Ran slid down against the partition of the restroom stall and sat on the floor. On the other end of the phone, there was still no answer. Finally, losing the strength to hold on, he fainted.
Jiang Siheng drove Qi Su to the hospital at top speed and rushed him into the emergency room. Only then did he have the time to take out the phone that had been vibrating incessantly in his pocket. Seeing three missed calls from Qi Ran, his heart tightened. He immediately dialed back, but there was no answer.
“Who is Qi Su’s family? Come sign this and pay the fees.”
Jiang Siheng turned to take the forms from the nurse, signed his name, and headed toward the payment counter. On the way, he called Gu Bai to tell him what happened to Qi Su.
The moment he hung up, the phone rang again. It was Lin Nan.
As soon as the call connected, Lin Nan’s urgent voice came through: “Where are you?”
Jiang Siheng brushed back the stray hair on his forehead. “At the hospital. Qi Su just fainted in the elevator. What’s wrong?”
“Qi Su?” Lin Nan’s voice rose an octave, followed immediately by another question: “You’ve been with Qi Su this whole time?”
“Yes, we bumped into each other at the Jiang Group. He suddenly fainted while we were in the elevator together, so I brought him to the hospital. I just called Gu Bai. Why do you ask?” Jiang Siheng explained briefly, not understanding why Lin Nan sounded so shocked.
Lin Nan sighed on the other end. “Qi Ran is here with me. He was just transferred in. A cleaning lady called the emergency services. His condition isn’t great right now. Can you come over?”
Hearing this news, Jiang Siheng’s throat tightened as he thought of those three unanswered calls. “I’m coming now.”
He had seen with his own eyes what Qi Ran looked like during a stress reaction. Those three calls were likely Qi Ran’s final, desperate cry for help, and he had failed to pick them up. He had let the youth suffer until he fainted from the pain.
After handing the payment receipts to the nurse’s station, Jiang Siheng told the nurse: “A man named Gu Bai will be here shortly. You can talk to him about Qi Su’s matters.”
Without waiting to see if the nurse had anything else to say, Jiang Siheng turned and strode toward Lin Nan’s department.
Lin Nan, who thought it would take a while for him to arrive, looked at the running Jiang Siheng. “Is Qi Su okay?”
“Gu Bai is coming; he’ll handle it. How is Qi Ran?”
Seeing that Jiang Siheng still prioritized this side, Lin Nan’s frustration dissipated slightly. “It’s bad. If his pheromone levels drop any further, he’ll turn into a ‘Pseudo-Omega.’ Do you know what that means? It means he won’t be able to secrete pheromones autonomously. His internal organs will be affected and begin to atrophy. He will gradually break down physically and mentally until he either goes mad or dies.”
Jiang Siheng’s expression hardened. Seeing this, Lin Nan softened his tone: “The clothes tainted with your pheromones probably won’t be enough to soothe him anymore. I need to extract your pheromones, dilute them, and inject them into his body to help stabilize his levels. It might be very painful, and we can’t use anesthesia. Can you hold on?”
“Fine. Do we extract now?”
Anxious to make amends, Jiang Siheng looked at Lin Nan with a level of seriousness he had never shown before.
Lin Nan felt a lump in his throat. “Follow me.”
…
In the consultation room, Jiang Siheng sat in a chair. As Lin Nan prepared the tools, he asked, “What happened with Qi Su?”
Jiang Siheng shook his head. “I don’t know. I didn’t have time to ask.” He took off his jacket and set it aside, his expression natural as he answered.
Lin Nan looked at him. “How do you plan to explain this to Qi Ran?”
That one sentence caused Jiang Siheng’s expression to tighten again.
Lin Nan sighed. “Actually, if you just explain it normally, I don’t think Qi Ran will overthink it.” After all, Qi Ran likely didn’t know about Jiang Siheng’s feelings for Qi Su. Lin Nan only hoped he would never find out.
Jiang Siheng didn’t respond to that. He only asked, “How do we extract it?”
Lin Nan pushed the cart over. “I need to extract it from your gland area. It will be very painful; you’ll have to bear with it.”
Jiang Siheng nodded and lay prone on the nearby bed, exposing the gland at the back of his neck to make it easier for Lin Nan to operate.
Watching his cooperative attitude, Lin Nan’s heart felt complex.
The extraction process was indeed as Lin Nan described: excruciating. It was a sour, piercing pain that made his entire shoulder feel uncomfortable. Once he reached 3ml, Lin Nan stopped and bandaged the wound. “Pray that this one syringe is enough, otherwise you’ll have to go through this a second time.”
Jiang Siheng lifted his head, his face somewhat pale. He straightened his collar and said, “It’s fine. But don’t tell him.”
Lin Nan put down his tools and looked at him. “What is your situation exactly? Do you feel you owe him and are making up for it, or…?”
Jiang Siheng stood up and interrupted him. “Can I go see him?”
Lin Nan saw him wobble slightly as he stood and warned, “You should rest for a bit.” Extracting pheromones, much like drawing blood, has a threshold; exceeding it causes the body to react poorly.
Jiang Siheng shook his head. “No need. I’m fine.”
“Then follow me. He hasn’t woken up yet.”
…
He led Jiang Siheng to the neighboring ward where Qi Ran was. The youth lay in bed wearing a hospital gown, his face pale and his usually vivid thin lips completely bloodless. He looked fragile and thin.
Jiang Siheng’s brow furrowed, a hint of self-reproach visible in his eyes.
Noticing his emotions, Lin Nan patted his shoulder. “He’s asleep now, so he shouldn’t feel any pain. Besides, this isn’t something you wanted to happen. Don’t blame yourself too much. Sit down and rest for a while.”
Pressing Jiang Siheng into a chair, Lin Nan continued: “He won’t wake up for a while. If you’re tired, you can use the neighboring bed. I need to go perform the dilution now. If you need anything, ask the nurses at the station.”
“Okay. Go ahead.” Jiang Siheng sat in the chair without moving. Even though the extraction caused his head to ache again and his ears to ring, he showed no intention of leaving.
After Lin Nan finished his instructions, he turned and left. In the large ward, there was no sound except for the rhythmic beeping of the monitors.
Jiang Siheng sat there, his gaze fixed on the sleeping Qi Ran. The youth looked obedient and beautiful while asleep, but he lacked the liveliness and vigor he had when awake.
He realized he didn’t like this version of Qi Ran at all. To him, Qi Ran should be full of energy and vitality like a flower under the bright sun: beautiful, proud, and as warm as sunlight.
…
When Qi Ran woke up, he felt completely drained of strength. His head was dizzy and heavy, and most importantly, the gland at the back of his neck hurt with a dull, aching soreness.
He instinctively wanted to reach back and feel if it was broken, but as soon as his hand moved, his wrist was caught. “Don’t move, you’re still on an IV.”
The familiar voice forced him to open his eyes. Meeting Jiang Siheng’s dark gaze, Qi Ran blinked. Then, remembering something, he asked, “How did I get to the hospital?”
He only remembered calling Jiang Siheng when the stress reaction started. When the call didn’t go through, the pain had become unbearable. He didn’t remember anything after that.
“A cleaning lady called the emergency services. I’m sorry… I didn’t catch your call.”
Qi Ran thought to himself that his luck wasn’t too bad. Even if he hadn’t reached Jiang Siheng, at least he was found in time. Otherwise, if he had died in a bathroom stall without anyone knowing, that would have been too tragic.
He curled his lips slightly. “It’s fine, no need to apologize. It’s normal to be busy and miss a call. Oof… the back of my neck hurts so much. Can you check if it’s broken?”
