I Became the Cure for the Cursed Prince - Chapter 149
As soon as Leon took the baby from me, the child quickly calmed down, as if they had never cried in the first place.
“It’s really strange. Every time a baby is with you, they become so quiet,” I said with a hint of amazement.
“Does that bother you?” I asked, looking directly at him.
Leon gave an awkward smile and admitted honestly, “A little.”
His answer made me laugh again. I looked down at Charlotte, who was peacefully resting in my arms. At some point, she had fallen asleep, her tiny hand resting gently on my chest.
I carefully laid her down on the bed and sat beside her. Leon quietly came over and sat next to me.
With his eyes fixed on Charlotte, Lucas finally spoke.
“Aside from being a little small, she’s healthy. She might not be on the same level as Alphas, but for an Omega, her development is excellent.”
“That’s only natural. She’s, my daughter.”
For Leon, who always made things happen once he set his mind to something, everything probably felt obvious. Of course, people would admire him. Of course, a child born from his bloodline would be gifted.
But for Lucas, it all still felt amazing.
Was it because Charlotte was an Omega? Though he never said it out loud, from the moment he learned she was an Omega, he had felt quietly uneasy. What if she took after him and was sickly? What if she had trouble fitting in and ended up living a lonely life?
Even though he had mostly recovered, the anxiety had started creeping back. Being told she was a dominant Omega didn’t completely take that fear away.
Then yesterday, he saw it clearly. A noble had brought twin Omega children about Charlotte’s age to visit. That was when Lucas fully realized the truth.
Charlotte really was a dominant Omega. Unlike him, she had been born healthy and strong, without needing to fight twice as hard just to live normally.
“So stop going to the temple at night to pray. The curse we feared was caused by our mistakes is over now. Charlotte will be fine. More importantly, Lucas…”
Leon gently took Lucas’s wrist and guided it toward himself. Lucas quickly pulled his hand back with a frown, but Leon only smiled in amusement.
“Charlotte doesn’t wake up that easily.”
It was clear what he meant. He wanted to do it right there.
Lucas narrowed his eyes at him, but when Leon leaned in and kissed him with that warm, glowing smile, Lucas couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. It seemed Leon didn’t really intend to go all the way right now anyway.
Their kiss grew deeper. Leon’s hand slipped under Lucas’s shirt. Just then, there was a knock at the door.
“Charlotte! Your brother is here!”
“Your Majesty, we’re here.”
Usually, they burst in without warning. What made them knock this time? Either way, Lucas was grateful they hadn’t walked in on them. Worried the noise might wake Charlotte, Lucas gently pushed Leon aside and quietly opened the door.
“Come in.”
Leon let out a sigh.
“They weren’t doing this for a while, but lately they’ve been interrupting more and more. Always using Charlotte as an excuse.”
The children came into the room. Lucas raised a finger to his lips, and the kids tiptoed over to Charlotte. The room filled with the soft scent of dried flower petals from Dea and the warm cinnamon aroma from Andrea.
Lucas loved that scent. Pretending to check on Charlotte, he moved behind Dea and gently lowered his face to the back of their neck, quietly breathing in. Even their scent was sweet. Every time he smelled it, he felt calm, like he could breathe easier.
When Dea first started giving off scent, Asili had said it reminded her of flowers soaked in rain for days that finally basked in the sun. Though the petals were dry, the fragrance was full of life. It was elegant, gentle, and comforting.
Lucas stepped to the side and leaned toward Andrea’s neck next.
A smile naturally formed on Lucas’s lips. The scent reminded him of taking a bite of cinnamon chocolate cake.
He wondered why his children always smelled so lovely. As that thought passed through his mind, he felt a tickle on the back of his neck. The children’s gentle scents began to fade, replaced entirely by the dry, smoky smell of burning wood.
“Leon,” Lucas sighed.
Leon hugged him from behind and whispered softly into his ear.
“I liked that I was the only one who could smell your scent. Since no one else could get close to you anyway, I thought I’d keep it as a secret forever.”
Lucas didn’t reply.
“I didn’t even realize how childish that thought was.”
“Why are you suddenly saying this?” Lucas asked, genuinely curious.
“Because I’m worried about you.”
“Worried?”
When Lucas turned to look at him, Leon continued.
“You know how Alpha scents change. And one day, even the kids will go looking for their own mates. Actually, Elisha already…”
“You’re right. With Elisha, I guess we can’t say it’s too early to start worrying.”
Suddenly, Lucas thought of Asili. For all those years, she must have missed her child’s scent. How did she endure it? She was incredible.
Dea, who had been watching Charlotte with fascination, turned their head. Their eyes sparkled like stars.
“Um, can we sleep with Charlotte too?”
“Hm? Charlotte is still little, so she sleeps with her nanny or with us. But you have your own room, don’t you?”
“But I want to protect her even while she’s sleeping. She’s so small. What if she has a scary dream?”
Lucas couldn’t help smiling. Elisha was their sister too, yet they were so different from her. He gently patted Dea’s head, and Andrea quickly chimed in.
“Dea’s right. When I can’t see her, I worry too much. It’s hard to focus on training.”
Leon chuckled and began teasing them.
“While you two are fussing over Charlotte, I wonder what Elisha is up to.”
At that, Andrea flinched, and Dea trembled.
“She comes every two months. You’ll probably lose to her again, won’t you?”
“We won’t lose!”
“We’re going to win!”
The children, who had been whispering quietly for Charlotte’s sake, suddenly shouted without thinking.
Charlotte stirred, her tiny fingers twitching, then her eyes opened wide. She frowned as if she were about to cry, but when she saw her whole family gathered around, she smiled sleepily.
“Oh no, we woke her up.”
“I’m sorry, baby. Your big brothers didn’t mean to,” Dea said gently.
Leon watched the boys awkwardly try to comfort their little sister, then took Charlotte into his arms.
“Your Highnesses, it’s time for your lessons. Please return to your studies.”
“Already?”
“Well, if you’d rather stay here and play, that’s fine too. Elisha said she’s even doing extra lessons now.”
“We’re going! You don’t have to say it like that, Father,” Andrea muttered.
The two brothers grumbled as they walked out of the room side by side.
Leon lifted Charlotte high in the air like an airplane, and she let out a bright, happy laugh.
“She woke up in the middle of her sleep but didn’t cry, not even a little. She’s so calm and gentle. How is she going to survive the tough life in the palace?” Lucas mumbled to himself.
Leon responded quietly, almost like he had been waiting for the thought.
“If she’s anything like you, she won’t stay gentle for long. You’re the one who used to tear monsters apart with your bare hands.”
“Well, that was…”
Lucas was about to say it was only because of the harsh training that pushed him beyond his limits, but in truth, both he and Charlotte were naturally strong for Omegas. He had no real argument.
Leon walked over with Charlotte resting in one arm and gently wrapped his other arm around Lucas’s waist. He pulled him in close with steady strength and held him tightly.
Looking at them both, first Charlotte and then Lucas, Leon smiled brightly.
“My Omegas.”
Lucas stared at him, his mouth slightly open, genuinely stunned.
“You sounded so much like a dad just now.”
It was hard to believe. Leon, who had always felt more like a child or a carefree boy, suddenly reminded him of an old, seasoned knight.
But Leon stayed completely calm and answered without even blinking.
“I have four kids. That makes me a dad for sure.”
Lucas said nothing.
“Do you know how hard I’ve tried to look more like a grown man? I grew a beard, I tried to speak in a deeper voice. But every time I did, you’d say the same thing. You were the one who taught me how to shave when I was young, so why was I growing a beard now. You never understood how badly I wanted to be seen as an adult.”
Lucas had never thought of that.
To him, Leon had always been an Alpha, his partner, and the father of their children. He had tried his best to show respect, but maybe it hadn’t been enough. In truth, he hadn’t always treated Leon like an adult. But wasn’t that the same in many relationships? Sometimes, when someone feels too precious or gentle, you just want to protect them.
Maybe it was because their relationship had never been ordinary from the start.
“I didn’t realize. I should have been more thoughtful. I’m sorry.”
“Well, the more you acted that way, the more I acted out at night, so I can’t really complain either.”
Whenever Leon got like that, Lucas used to think maybe all Alphas were just intense like that. He had never been with another Alpha, so he assumed pushing someone to their limit was just part of their nature. But to think that behind that intensity was a heart that hadn’t quite grown out of being a boy.
Lucas held back a laugh and playfully said, “Then maybe I should keep treating you like a kid from time to time.”
“Huh?”
Leon tilted his head, not immediately understanding what he meant.
“That way, our nights will stay passionate.”
“Wait… is that really your thing…?”
Leon trailed off, completely shocked for a moment, but then burst into laughter. He collapsed onto the bed, saying his heart might explode from how happy he felt.
The bed wasn’t exactly steamy since Charlotte was still asleep next to them, but it was warm.
The three of them, wrapped in each other’s warmth, slowly drifted into a sweet afternoon nap.
