I Am Being Raised by a Cat - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Hearing the man’s form of address, Cheng Yue’s eyes first went wide, and then, as if startled, he stood up abruptly, his voice rising a pitch. “You! You mustn’t call me that!”
The man’s expression remained flat. “Why? Are you not my master?”
Cheng Yue felt like he was about to faint.
His pet was a little kitten that went “meow meow meow.”
It was not a man this tall.
It sounded like they were playing some strange “alphabet” [BDSM] roleplay.
He spoke with difficulty, only able to repeat himself: “You mustn’t call me that.”
“Then what should I call you?” Cheng Shang feigned serious thought, then looked back at the youth, his eyes darkening and his thin lips parting slightly. “Yue Yue?”
The man’s voice was deep, like the low notes of a plucked cello, hooking perfectly into Cheng Yue’s heart. His ears felt tingly and numb from the vibration of the sound, and his breathing grew erratic.
The youth’s lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but just then the doorbell rang. [Xiao Xiao] rushed out like a small cannonball to open the door.
The man glanced down at his wristwatch. “The doctor should be here.”
“So fast.”
The youth muttered in a tiny voice, but it was still caught by the man’s ears.
He seemed to give a short laugh, his voice becoming much gentler. “It won’t hurt, Yue Yue. I promise you.”
After rinsing his mouth, Cheng Yue followed behind the man to the living room. Several people in white coats were already waiting there. Upon seeing them approach, they bowed in unison. “Governor Cheng.”
A subtle feeling suddenly surged in Cheng Yue’s heart.
The clingy little cat that used to always follow behind him had actually turned into such a prominent figure.
And such a person, looked up to by countless others, would actually still call him Master?
Feeling a weight on his head, the youth snapped back to his senses to see that Cheng Shang had turned around at some point, rubbing his hair with a faint smile. “Why are you still dazed? I didn’t lie to you, it really won’t hurt. Why don’t you just close your eyes.”
The man took this opportunity to finally press down the cowlick he had been thinking about all morning.
The doctors standing behind them looked a bit stunned.
Was this… a junior member of Governor Cheng’s family?
To be so favored?
Being called by such an intimate name in front of several people made Cheng Yue feel awkward. Feeling it would be inappropriate to slight Cheng Shang’s dignity in public, he could only let the tips of his ears turn red while maintaining a facade of calm as he sat on the sofa.
In Cheng Shang’s presence, the doctors appeared somewhat nervous, fearing they might make a mistake in the procedure. Fortunately, the man’s gaze never really landed on them from start to finish; it remained fixed on the youth beside him.
Cheng Yue was actually a bit needle-phobic; he couldn’t help but want to tremble when he saw the cold gleam of a needle tip. But this time, the doctor didn’t take out a needle at all. Instead, they directly adhered a transparent, rubber-like tube to his blood vessel and pressed it lightly twice. Soon, red liquid began to flow out.
Cheng Yue had never seen this kind of high technology and leaned in curiously to study it, but the man suddenly reached out and blocked his eyes.
“Don’t look.”
The youth blinked, wanting to say that if he couldn’t see the needle he wouldn’t be afraid, but at that moment, a sharp sting came from his vein, and his eyelashes fluttered.
However, the man soon retracted his hand. He explained, “There will be a bit of a sting at the end, but it’s very quick.”
Sure enough, when Cheng Yue looked back, a small bottle of fresh blood was already filled inside a transparent glass tube.
The man’s retracted hand clenched slightly. Just now, Cheng Yue’s blinking eyelashes had brushed against his palm, carrying a faint itch that seemed to spread through every nerve of his body.
From the moment he saw the youth, the self-control Cheng Shang took such pride in had crumbled inch by inch. It seemed that every breath and every blink from the youth could throw his state of mind into total chaos.
The doctors packed their things and left quickly.
Since Cheng Shang had just taken office, there was a pile of work waiting for him at the Government House, but there was no way he would leave the youth at home alone.
But Cheng Yue was unwilling.
He spoke stubbornly, “I’m leaving today. It’s not good for me to keep living here.”
The man couldn’t understand what was “not good” about it.
Everything here was his, but he belonged to Cheng Yue.
However, he knew Cheng Yue’s personality; the more you went against him, the more stubborn he became.
Cheng Shang spoke calmly, “But the results of the blood test just now aren’t out yet. You might as well wait a few more days. Besides, you have no place to live right now. Where would you go?”
Cheng Yue thought for a moment and asked, “Then how long will the results take?”
The man pondered. “Hard to say. Perhaps a month.”
He had wanted to say half a year or a year, but that would be too absurd.
The youth was shocked. “Why does it take so long?”
Even twenty years ago, it didn’t take a month.
Yet Cheng Shang spoke with a straight face: “After the Great Evolution, human blood has changed. High-precision instruments are needed for testing. This is also for the sake of your health.”
Cheng Yue went silent.
It was true that he had nowhere to go right now. He might as well stay here for the time being; he could look for a place to live while trying to find a job.
In the end, he could only agree.
But he also spoke very seriously, “However, you aren’t allowed to say things about me being your master anymore. You are also… a person now. I won’t look at you as a cat anymore.”
The man’s lips curved. “Alright, as you wish. Then pack up, and let’s head out.”
Because Cheng Yue’s outer clothes needed to be custom-made, he could only temporarily wear Cheng Shang’s clothes. The man was much taller and broader than him; the clothes hanging on his body made him look like a child who had stolen an adult’s clothes.
The man bent down to roll up his sleeves for him, explaining warmly, “After the Great Evolution, the sunlight has changed drastically. It is either extreme cold or extreme heat, which is very harmful to ordinary people. You can only wear special custom clothing.”
The youth couldn’t help but look at the Cheng Shang in front of him. The man’s features were rugged; when he wasn’t smiling, his eyes looked very cold, possessing a natural aura of authority. He remembered the news saying that Cheng Shang used to be an Army Colonel.
Can cats lead troops into battle too?
Though he said he wouldn’t view Cheng Shang as a little Bengal cat anymore, Cheng Yue’s heart couldn’t help but hallucinate the man as that proud, pampered cat.
Every time he thought about it, the disconnect felt too great.
But at the same time, Cheng Yue felt a bit sad.
Was he never going to see the little Bengal cat again?
The driver was already waiting at the door. When they stepped out, the man took a hat and placed it on Cheng Yue’s head. The brim was very large, almost completely hiding the youth’s palm-sized face.
On the surface, Cheng Shang said it was to block the light.
In reality, the dark thoughts in his heart were too difficult to speak of.
To him, the youth was like a recovered pearl. He couldn’t help but want to keep him by his side every moment, unwilling to let go for even a second.
He wanted to cover him with red silk, fearing that others might catch even a glimpse of him.
As for Cheng Yue’s constant claims about wanting to move out.
Don’t even think about it.
The man’s heart was dark and cold, yet when the youth turned back to urge him, he revealed a gentle smile. “Alright, let’s go.”
Leopards are especially good at camouflage.
