Husband, Let Your Husband Treat Your Illness - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
When Ye Mo bought this apartment, what he favored was its excellent heating and abundant natural light, so he purchased it without a second thought. Since Ye Mo lived there alone, the interior design was handled personally by this “little ancestor” , a low-key, luxurious Nordic minimalist style paired with small Japanese-style ornaments. The black-and-white color palette made the entire room feel somber and solemn, hardly a place that sparked joy.
Ye Mo’s biological mother’s evaluation of the house was: “A tomb for the living dead!” Upon closer inspection, it really did look like one. Although the items in the kitchen were replaced by servants as soon as they expired, this little ancestor would absolutely never cook for himself. He never liked having any grease or smoke in his home (though the Ye family estate was a different story).
Ye Mo lay on his large black bed, wrapped tightly in a white quilt. The temperature inside the room could certainly be described as “warm as spring,” yet this little ancestor still bundled himself up like a zongzi (sticky rice dumpling). The man [with him] wasn’t surprised; having known Ye Mo for so long, he had long grown accustomed to Ye Mo’s cold-fearing nature.
A man could be seen busy in the kitchen. Washing, chopping, and stir-frying, the man didn’t hesitate at all, looking like someone well-practiced in the craft. Before long, delicious food was ready. The man tidied the kitchen and portioned the dishes into small bowls. Knowing this ancestor didn’t eat much, he nonetheless filled a large bowl with fish soup, preparing to carry it into Ye Mo. The man went to the room where Ye Mo was sleeping, patted him, and said, “Get up and eat if you don’t want to starve to death. I made your favorites. Hurry up, you won’t eat it once it gets cold.”
After the patting, Ye Mo still gave no reaction. The man shook his head helplessly, went to the kitchen to bring all the food in, placed it on a small coffee table, and then sat by Ye Mo to help him up. “Ye Mo, get up quickly, wake up!”
“Fu Yu! I’m an injured person, can’t you treat me better?” Ye Mo squinted his eyes and spoke to Fu Yu.
“Treat you better? Are you joking? Picking you up from the hospital and cooking for you is already doing my utmost!” Fu Yu roared at Ye Mo. “I haven’t even settled the score with you for what happened before you went to Japan! I still can’t hold my head up in front of Qian Meng!”
A wicked smile curled at the corner of Ye Mo’s mouth. “Oh? After all this time, you still haven’t made up with your little girlfriend? You can’t blame me for that. I helped you; otherwise, Qian Meng would already belong to someone else.”
“Shut up! Eat!”
“If I shut my mouth, how am I supposed to eat?”
Suddenly, as if remembering something, Fu Yu said to Ye Mo, “Though you usually don’t act like a decent human being, I think this is the first time you haven’t followed doctor’s orders.”
“I just don’t like staying in the hospital! Don’t overthink it.” As Ye Mo spoke, his face darkened, and he went silent, just eating his meal quietly.
Fu Yu was a bit unaccustomed to this. Looking at Ye Mo’s gloomy face and based on his understanding of the man, something was definitely up and he had likely hit a “steel plate” (met with a formidable obstacle). “It seems our Young Master Mo of the Ye family, who hasn’t bothered to come home for several years, has kicked a major steel plate right upon his return?”
“You can’t spit ivory out of a dog’s mouth (you have nothing good to say). Did you clean the kitchen? If there is even a single stain in my kitchen, I’ll go discuss those South American restaurant projects with Uncle Fu and make sure you can’t come back for years!” Ye Mo threatened.
“Fine, fine, fine, I’ll stop talking, alright?” Fu Yu looked at Ye Mo, caught between laughter and tears. Before he could recover, a landline phone in the hall began to ring. “Who told you to plug the phone line in!” “Nonsense, isn’t a phone meant for calling?”
Since Ye Mo’s legs and feet were inconvenient, Fu Yu naturally went out to answer the call. “Hello, who is this?” He only managed those three words before a torrent of scolding came from the other side, leaving Fu Yu no chance to explain.
“You little brat! With those injuries on your body, can you even go back? Don’t you know how to cherish your own health? It seems nothing major is wrong since you can discharge yourself and have even learned how to threaten people! How did our Ye family produce a little thing like you? I really don’t know what sins we committed. Going home? Is there anyone there? Who is going to take care of you?”
Fu Yu finished the call with a face full of black lines (exasperation). To prevent Ye Mo’s mother on the other end from scolding even harder, Fu Yu hurried to speak: “Auntie! Auntie! Please stop for a moment. It’s Xiao Yu. I’m the one who picked Mo Mo up, and I’m the one who did the threatening. Please don’t be angry; I’m here to take care of Ye Mo.”
“Don’t use Xiao Yu as an excuse. How well-behaved is Fu Yu? He’s already taken over Old Fu’s business at such a young age. Look at you, can’t you let your father rest a bit earlier!”
“Auntie! I am Xiao Yu,” Fu Yu said loudly.
There was a pause on the other end of the line. “Xiao Yu, it’s you. If you’re there, then I’m relieved.”
“Auntie, it’s nothing. I’ll hang up now. Ye Mo is still eating; I’ll take care of him.” After speaking, Fu Yu hung up the phone, so abruptly that Madam An on the other end didn’t get a chance to say that she had already given Ye Mo’s home address to Dongfang Jin.
During the time Ye Mo disappeared, the hospital had gone crazy. Nurses and doctors across the entire hospital were searching frantically. Dongfang Jin was also running back and forth between floors. The Ye family members waited in the ward watching surveillance footage, but as luck would have it, all the cameras near Ye Mo’s ward were turned off that day for line maintenance, so there was no footage of that period.
Looking at the discharge records, it was Ye Mo’s personal signature. The nurses who saw him said a man had taken Ye Mo away. The Ye family wasn’t worried about Ye Mo being in any personal danger, because anyone who could take the “little ancestor” away without alerting the hospital staff must be a friend. What the Ye family worried about was Ye Mo’s injury; if there was no one to care for it and it worsened, it wouldn’t be good if he ended up with a disability.
“Doctor Dongfang!” An Yue looked at Dongfang Jin’s anxious state, and her heart filled with a positive impression of this doctor because he was truly worried about her son. “This is one of the addresses for Ye Mo’s houses. I’m not sure if he’s staying there, but it’s the one he visits most often. The rest of us will go to his other properties. I’ll have to trouble you to check this place for me. If Ye Mo is home, please take care of him. My son knows how to do everything except take care of himself. The price/fee is not an issue.”
Seeing Ye Mo’s mother place such trust in him, a stranger, a warm current naturally flowed through Dongfang Jin’s heart. He felt happy at the possibility of having such a mother-in-law. He said hurriedly, “Yes, Madam An, please rest assured.” As soon as he finished speaking, Dongfang Jin quickly changed his clothes, grabbed some essential medical supplies, and headed to the parking lot.
An Yue had intended to call that house. Although she knew Ye Mo’s habit was to unplug all landlines, she still thought she might as well “treat a dead horse as if it were alive” and try a call. To her surprise, it actually went through. As soon as it was answered, she unleashed a torrent of scolding regardless of the circumstances, leading to the scene described above.
After the phone was hung up, Fu Yu entered Ye Mo’s room and said, “This is getting a bit serious for us. Your Madam An was very fierce just now.”
“A call from Madam An? It serves you right. Who told you to plug in the phone line? Otherwise, would this have happened?” Ye Mo looked on with schadenfreude.
“Fine, fine, consider it my bad luck to have a friend like you.” Fu Yu looked at the food on the table in front of Ye Mo. As he expected, this little ancestor was a picky eater; he had only touched a tiny bit of each dish before stopping. “When are you ever going to change your eating habits? My skills are at least Michelin-level, yet they still don’t pass muster with you.”
“Fu Yu, your skills are indeed very good, but I just don’t like it. Hahahaha.” Ye Mo looked smug. In truth, it wasn’t that he disliked it, but rather that Ye Mo was truly fastidious about eating. Back at the Ye house, the family meals were prepared together, and Ye Mo would eat with them, but after he finished, a specialized chef would always prepare a separate portion to be sent upstairs, of which he would still only eat a little.
“Uncle Ye always says you are hard to raise, and he’s not wrong at all.” While complaining, Fu Yu took Ye Mo’s leftovers to the kitchen and began washing up. Ye Mo lay back down comfortably and started to sleep again.
“Ding-dong! Ding-dong!” The doorbell rang. Fu Yu fully expected it to be someone from the Ye family so that he could finally rest, but upon opening the door, he found a man he had never seen before. The excitement and thrill on the man’s face turned into an icy stare the moment he saw Fu Yu. “Who are you?” It was actually Dongfang Jin who spoke first.
“I should be the one asking you that. Who are you?” Fu Yu felt offended, and his tone was not very kind.
“Are you… the male master of this house?” Dongfang Jin’s brain must have been muddled to say something so brainless.
“I’m asking you, who are you?”
“Where is Ye Mo?”
“What do you want with him?” While saying this, Fu Yu had already filled his head with a series of dramatic scenarios, thinking: This brat Ye Mo has offended plenty of people; could this guy be here for revenge?
“I apologize, I was rude just now. My name is Dongfang Jin, I am Ye Mo’s attending physician. However, I have now been commissioned by Madam An to be Ye Mo’s private doctor and naturally to take care of his daily life.”
Once Dongfang Jin said this, Fu Yu immediately felt relieved. He said, “Ah, great! Hurry in and take over. I can finally get some rest; taking care of this little ancestor is too exhausting.” After speaking, Fu Yu hurriedly pulled off his apron and draped it over Dongfang Jin. “Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. Fu Yu, Ye Mo’s best friend.”
The two shook hands and smiled at each other. Dongfang Jin smiled because this person wasn’t a love rival; Fu Yu smiled because he was finally free. After getting to know each other, Fu Yu packed his things and escaped. That left Dongfang Jin cleaning in the kitchen while Ye Mo was still sleeping in the large bed. When he wakes up, things will get interesting.
