Husband, Let Your Husband Treat Your Illness - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Early in the morning on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the sun gradually rose from the east, and warm sunlight filtered through the window. It was unclear when Ye Pei and Ye Huan had left, but by the time the members of the Dongfang household woke up, they were already gone presumably back to their own home. Dongfang Jin and Ye Mo were still in bed; Dongfang Jin felt quite weak, with bursts of stinging pain coming from his backside.
Ye Mo quite innocently gave Dongfang Jin’s butt a playful slap. “Ah! Mo, you’re so cruel.” Dongfang Jin looked at Ye Mo with a wronged expression. After the “intense battle” last night, Dongfang Jin had fully witnessed Ye Mo’s prowess, thinking to himself: In the future, I must never let Ye Mo take the lead, or I’ll really end up bedridden forever.
“Get up, stop acting frail,” Ye Mo said nonchalantly. Seeing Dongfang Jin’s shy and bashful look, he found it quite endearing that this big man had such a cute side, which was much more charming than his usual rogue-like behavior. “Hurry up and get out of bed; the sun is already parching your behind.”
“Mo, why don’t you show me some sympathy? You went so many rounds last night; it’s a miracle I still have the strength to speak.” Anyone could tell he was exaggerating. Ye Mo knew Dongfang Jin had excellent stamina, so when he saw him acting spoiled like this, he found it rather amusing.
“Stop acting; it was only twice last night, and I already applied medicine for you. It’s not that exaggerated.” Ye Mo looked at the “delicate” man before him and kissed Dongfang Jin’s forehead. “Get up, the family is waiting for us downstairs.”
“Okay.” After being kissed by Ye Mo, Dongfang Jin suddenly felt his fatigue vanish and the pain subside. Instantly revitalized, he headed into the bathroom to shower.
“What a pretentious man,” Ye Mo snorted softly, teasing him.
After lingering in the room for a while, Ye Mo and Dongfang Jin finally came down. The Dongfang family was already gathered downstairs having breakfast. “Xiao Mo, Xiao Jin, hurry over and eat,” Chi Yuan called out from the table. “Coming!”
“Xiao Jin, what are your plans? Are you staying to work at our family hospital, or are you going back out to take on those high-difficulty surgeries?” the Dongfang Old Master asked.
Ye Mo paused and looked at Dongfang Jin. Actually, Ye Mo really wanted Dongfang Jin to go out and perform surgeries because he didn’t want to become a burden that held Dongfang Jin back.
Dongfang Jin chewed his food and sat in deep thought for a long time before answering: “Grandpa, here’s what I’m thinking. I’ll work at our family hospital, occasionally take on high-difficulty surgeries elsewhere, and once I have the capability, I’ll open a hospital together with Xiao Mo.” Dongfang Jin rattled off his series of plans like a rapid-fire cannon.
The Dongfang Old Master listened and remained silent for a long while before nodding. “It’s good that you have a plan for your own life. Regardless, the most important thing is that you aren’t allowed to mistreat Xiao Mo.” After saying this, the Old Master looked at Ye Mo with a gaze full of care.
“Alright, today is the first day of the New Year. Eat up quickly; we have other things to do.” The “other things” the grandmother referred to was the Dongfang family’s unshakable tradition: ancestral worship on New Year’s Day.
It was the Dongfang family’s custom that everyone must be present for ancestral worship every New Year. By the time they finished preparing the ritual items, it was nearly noon.
On a medium-sized “Eight Immortals” table, they laid out four meat dishes, four vegetable dishes, and seasonal fruits. Eight sets of bowls and chopsticks were placed, and the cups were filled with yellow wine. Once everything was ready, the Dongfang Old Master led the family to kneel before the table and prayed: “May our ancestors protect our descendants, granting us prosperity, peace, longevity, and smooth sailing.” After he bowed, the rest of the family followed suit in a neat and orderly fashion. Afterward, they began burning joss paper and gold ingots. Once everyone had placed their incense sticks, the ceremony concluded, and they began enjoying their lunch.
During lunch, Dongfang Jin picked up a piece of fish, meticulously removed all the bones, and placed it in Ye Mo’s bowl. Ye Mo ate it happily. “Big brother, you’re too good to Mo. When will I find a boyfriend who treats me like this?” Dongfang悠 (Dongfang You) said while biting her chopsticks.
“Then hurry up and find one. Now that your big brother is ‘off the market,’ it’s your turn—along with the rest of you overaged singles.”
“I’m full! I have some business at school today, I’ve got to go!” Dongfang You fled the “marriage-urging” scene like the wind.
“I think the hospital has a meeting today, how could I forget? Parents, Grandpa, Grandma, I’m leaving first!” Dongfang Yi felt that if he stayed any longer, the fire would spread to him.
“I still have several cases to finish; I’m heading back to the law firm.” Dongfang Quan pretended to be on a phone call as he walked toward the door.
“I need to help my mentor organize materials today. Oh dear, I’m so busy!” Dongfang An was already at the door by the time he finished speaking.
Suddenly, the lively gathering was down by four or five people. Ye Mo couldn’t help but chuckle. “Is everyone in your family that afraid of marriage?”
“It’s not marriage they fear; it’s the relentless nagging. They’re afraid of being pressured.” Dongfang Jin watched them scramble away, reminded of his own “path of exile” a few years ago due to marriage pressure.
“Xiao Mo, what are your plans for today? Our family doesn’t have many relatives to visit, so you can arrange your own time this afternoon,” Chi Yuan said, looking over at them.
“The two of us plan to head back to Ye Mo’s place to clean up, and then bring some more of his clothes over. It’s not very convenient staying here without a change of clothes.”
“Good. Eat more, then go about your business.”
“Understood.”
“I might not be back for dinner tonight,” Ye Mo added. “My family has a lot of social engagements at this time of year. After cleaning the apartment, I have to attend a gala. Our whole family is invited, so it’s mandatory.” “Do you want me to go with you?” Dongfang Jin asked.
“No need, I’ll go by myself. I’ll just make an appearance and come right back.” He shot Dongfang Jin a “trust me” look. “Alright then.” Dongfang Jin’s face darkened slightly; he felt that Ye Mo was unwilling to bring him because he hadn’t fully acknowledged their relationship publicly yet.
“Don’t overthink it. I just simply feel it’s not the right setting for you, and I want to introduce you at a much more grand occasion.” Ye Mo’s words acted as a great comfort to Dongfang Jin. “Alright, just remember to come back early.”
After lunch, the Dongfang family members went their separate ways. Dongfang Jin and Ye Mo returned to Ye Mo’s residence to start cleaning. “Why wouldn’t you let me hire a housekeeping company today?” Ye Mo asked. He usually had professionals do it, but Dongfang Jin had insisted on doing it themselves. “I just want to do things with you. I’m happy doing anything as long as it’s with you.”
Ye Mo smiled. How could this man be so childish? What Ye Mo didn’t know was that this “big man’s” childishness was a side Dongfang Jin only showed to him. “I’ll just show my face at the gala and come right back, don’t worry too much.” As Ye Mo was wiping a porcelain vase, it suddenly slipped. Just as it was about to hit the floor, Dongfang Jin lunged forward, sliding right to Ye Mo’s feet to catch the vase.
“What are you two doing? Playing games?” a man’s voice called from the doorway. Ye Mo looked over to see Fu Yu standing there.
Ye Mo helped Dongfang Jin up and asked, “What are you doing here?”
“I saw the door was open, so I walked right in. Seems I’ve interrupted you two.” Fu Yu was still replaying the scene in his head; it was hilarious.
“You haven’t answered my question.”
“I’m here to deliver the guest list for tonight’s gala.”
“You actually brought it over. Thank you for your hard work; I feel bad that you have to do this every time.” Ye Mo took the list, sat on the sofa, and started flipping through it. “The invitees for this gala are mostly the same; it’s always the same crowd.”
“You, feeling bad? Oh, by the way, keep an eye on this person: Mo Ziran. I heard he’s self-made with no background, but he’s very powerful. Although it’s still a small company, the fact that he was invited to this gala shows he’s someone extraordinary.”
“What are you two talking about?” Dongfang Jin asked.
“We’re talking about tonight’s gala. This brat has a habit every time there’s a gala, he makes me send him a guest list.”
“Oh, I don’t know any of these people.”
“You aren’t in the business world, so naturally you wouldn’t know,” Ye Mo said, comforting Dongfang Jin’s slight feeling of being left out.
“Mo, come back early tonight. Even being away from you for a minute makes me feel uneasy. My heart feels all jumbled up.” Dongfang Jin took Ye Mo’s hand and placed it on his chest. “Feel it, it’s racing.”
“What are you doing? There are outsiders here.” Ye Mo looked at Fu Yu, his face flushing red.
Fu Yu was a bit startled by the display. After watching for a while, he finally said, “What’s the situation with you two? We haven’t seen each other for how long, and you’ve become this close?”
“We are lovers,” Ye Mo stated directly. Fu Yu’s expression shifted rapidly, as if he had just learned something monumental.
“For real? Your family agreed?” Ye Mo didn’t mention that his family was practically dying to “marry” him off; he simply replied with a calm “Yes.”
“Your old man is quite open-minded. So, are you the one on top or the one on the bottom?” Fu Yu asked with a schadenfreude expression, waiting for a reaction. He had been waiting to see this little guy embarrassed for a long time, and he didn’t expect it to happen so soon.
“Are you that interested in my business? Perhaps I should have a long talk with Qian Meng about your past.”
“I was wrong! I was wrong! I still don’t even have the face to go see Qian Meng.”
“Who is Qian Meng?” Dongfang Jin asked, finally finding a chance to jump into the conversation.
“This guy’s girlfriend, and the only woman who could ever truly tame this playboy.”
“Who are you calling a playboy? Make yourself clear!”
“Mo, aren’t you two heading out yet?”
“We lost track of time talking; let’s go.”
The two of them headed out. Before leaving, Ye Mo didn’t forget to leave a deep kiss on Dongfang Jin’s lips. “Wait for me to come back.”
“I love you, Ye Mo. Don’t lose yourself.”
“I’ll keep an eye on him, let’s go,” Fu Yu said.
They headed downstairs. Dongfang Jin finished the rest of the cleaning, took Ye Mo’s change of clothes, and headed back to the compound.
Dongfang Jin arrived at the compound at roughly the same time Ye Mo and Fu Yu reached the gala venue. Upon arrival, they found that everyone from the Ye family was already there, waiting for him. “Mo, you’re the last one every time. Is that really appropriate?”
“Third brother, isn’t it normal for me to arrive late and leave early?”
“You brat, it’s a wonder Dongfang Jin can put up with you.”
“And I’m wondering how my third sister-in-law puts up with you. Do I need to have a chat with her?”
“Mo, chat about what?”
“Darling, let’s ignore him and go in.”
“Alright, alright, everyone go in,” the Ye family Old Master said. The entire Ye family, along with Fu Yu, walked into the gala hall.
The moment they entered, they became the center of attention. Everyone’s eyes turned toward the Ye family. “That’s the Ye family! My god, the Ye family that dominates the business world.”
“What a perfect match, all these couples.”
“That must be the fourth young master of the Ye family. He’s the only one left single in the family, the ultimate ‘golden son-in-law’.”
“How could someone like him not have a partner?”
“Who knows? He didn’t even attend the galas in previous years.” Ye Mo had spent the last few years in Japan; who had time for these galas? Ye Mo enjoyed the feeling, found a quiet corner, and started sipping his drink. He didn’t know that from the moment he walked in, someone had already set their sights on him.
