Husband, Let Your Husband Treat Your Illness - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
After lying in bed for a day, combined with the meticulous care of Dongfang Jin and Chi Yuan, Ye Mo’s fever finally broke before dinner, allowing Dongfang Jin to breathe a sigh of relief; otherwise, the Old Master truly would have fought him to the death. Ye Mo went downstairs wearing a set of loungewear. People really are different. An ordinary person wearing loungewear looks ordinary, but on Ye Mo, it looked like a top-tier model.
“Mo, do you feel better?” Chi Yuan asked.
“Much better, thank you, Auntie.” Ye Mo gave Chi Yuan a smile, one that melted her heart. Chi Yuan thought to herself: What merit did this kid Jin accumulate in his past life to earn such a good spouse in this one?
“It’s good that you’re better. We’ve already scolded Xiao Jin, so don’t be angry.”
“I won’t be. He treats me very well.” The last “very well” was said through gritted teeth, causing cold sweat to pour down the back of Dongfang Jin, who was sitting beside him.
“Mo, is it okay for you to eat here tonight? Will your family want you back?” Chi Yuan asked.
“I’ll make a phone call; just telling them will be enough.”
“If it really doesn’t work, let your family come here to spend it. It can count as a meeting between both sets of parents.”
“Okay, I’ll call and ask.” Ye Mo picked up his phone to call home.
“Hello! You little brat, you finally remember to call? Today is New Year’s Eve, are you not coming back to eat?”
“Mom, I’m eating the New Year’s Eve dinner at Dongfang Jin’s house.”
“You stinky boy. People say ‘a grown daughter cannot be kept at home,’ but I see the saying ‘a grown son cannot be kept at home’ applies too.” Hearing that her boy was eating out, An Yue didn’t know whether to feel heartache or relief. On one hand, she was happy he found a home; on the other, she felt the pain of losing a child.
“Mom, Dongfang Jin’s mother said our family can come along to eat the New Year’s Eve dinner together.”
“Really?” Yue deeply doubted her ears.
“Really, why would I lie to you?”
“Have you lied to me any less?” An Yue rolled her eyes on the other end of the phone. Had this stinky boy lied to her only a few times?
“Just say whether you’re coming or not.”
“Fine, I’ll tell the family.” Ms. An Yue’s style of doing things was fast; soon, news arrived that the entire Ye family was coming to the Dongfang house. The Dongfang family immediately scrambled to prepare extra dishes, set the tables, and wash utensils, busy and happy.
“Oh, there’s no need for such grandeur, just a casual meal is fine.” Ye Mo actually couldn’t bear it; he couldn’t stand seeing the Dongfang family busy themselves just because a few members of the Ye family were coming to eat. He felt like he was troubling them.
“How can that be? The in-laws are coming, it has to be a bit grand,” Chi Yuan said.
Watching several aunts busying themselves, Ye Mo felt a bit uneasy in his heart.
While they were talking, the Ye family arrived in a row of Porsches. Once the cars stopped, the members of the Ye family descended: the Ye family Old Master, the four brothers, and so on only Ye Xi was missing.
Ye Mo felt this was normal. After all, that incident had only happened a day ago; it was understandable that Ye Xi wouldn’t come at this time. “Oh, the in-laws are here.” The Dongfang family Old Master and Grandmother went out to greet them. Ye Mo walked in front of the two elders and began introducing the Ye family members one by one so the elders could get to know them, while simultaneously introducing the Dongfang family to the Ye family.
“In-law, has this little brat brought you any big trouble?” Sure enough, parents the world over are the same! Ye Mo looked at Dongfang Jin, who seemed to suddenly have a lot more confidence, his face seemingly saying: The people backing me up are here.
Fortunately, the Dongfang family courtyard was built large enough; otherwise, with so many people at once, another place might not have been able to hold them. The two families gathered together, chatting and laughing. An Yue and Chi Yuan talked fervently, leading the women of both families to clean up the New Year’s Eve banquet items. The Ye brothers chatted with Dongfang Hao’s generation about family, state, and world affairs, talking happily. The Ye family Old Master chatted with the Dongfang grandparents about things from their era. Meanwhile, Ye Mo and Dongfang Jin’s generation played games, watched videos, and chatted about celebrities and gossip.
That night, the Dongfang family’s entire impression of the Ye family changed. They had originally thought such a family might be a bit “alienated from the people,” but the Ye family gave an impression of not only lacking that but integrating very well. Ye Mo was very happy looking at this scene, finally feeling like he was living with some “human warmth.”
Finally, after an unknown amount of time, Chi Yuan’s voice came from the kitchen: “The food is ready, everyone comes over.” Five large tables were packed with all kinds of delicious delicacies. Ye Mo was amazed by Chi Yuan’s speed, that everything was finished so quickly. “Your mother and all your aunts helped, so it was done fast.”
Ye Mo smiled at Chi Yuan, then looked at Dongfang Jin and said, “I finally know who your good cooking skills came from.”
“I am self-taught; there’s no inheritance.”
“If it weren’t for Mom’s good cooking, you wouldn’t have any skills in making good food,” Ye Mo said, looking at Dongfang Jin.
“That’s my mom, are you changing how you address her so quickly? Are you that anxious to marry me?” Dongfang Jin teased Ye Mo; he especially loved seeing Ye Mo’s expression after being teased.
“Get lost, clearly I’m marrying you.” Ye Mo struck back without ceremony. Although Ye Mo knew the matter in bed couldn’t be changed, he wouldn’t yield a single bit regarding face.
The two laughed, fingers interlaced, quietly looking at each other.
“Stinky boy, stop being mushy, hurry over and set the table.” Not long after they locked eyes, An Yue called Ye Mo over to carry dishes.
“Oh, in-law, don’t let Xiao Mo do work. Xiao Mo, you just sit there and rest well.”
“No, you can’t spoil him like this, it’ll ruin the boy.”
“It’s fine, Xiao Mo just rested well. Xiao Jin, come in and help.” Sure enough, the Dongfang family was unwilling to let Xiao Mo work but willing to let Dongfang Jin work. Now the Ye family was unhappy.
“Oh, why should Xiao Jin do work? Sit, just sit.”
“Oh, you just said not to spoil Xiao Mo, now I have to say you shouldn’t pamper Xiao Jin too much either.”
Both families burst into laughter at the sight.
After busying themselves for a while, the two families finally sat down. There wasn’t a hint of estrangement between them. Ye Mo looked at Dongfang Jin; just because of the two of them, these two families had joined together.
“Everyone, quiet, let me say a few words,” the Dongfang family Old Master spoke. “Today our two families can gather here because of Xiao Mo and Xiao Jin. This one of ours doesn’t have major flaws, but he has many minor ones; Xiao Mo should be more tolerant. I won’t say any other nonsense today; everyone be happy, eat and drink well.”
After the Dongfang Old Master sat down, the Ye family Old Master stood up. “What I have to say is basically the same as Brother Dongfang. You two live well in the future. Xiao Mo, you’re not allowed to be temperamental; you must take good care of Xiao Jin. Did you hear me?”
Ye Mo rolled his eyes at the old man and looked at Dongfang Jin beside him, signaling with an “eye-dagger” as if to say: I won’t listen to the Old Master’s words.
Dongfang Jin’s gaze seemed to say: I know, I will be good to you.
On the five round tables, cups were exchanged and gourmet food rotated in front of them. The Ye and Dongfang families chatted happily; even though they met for the first time today, it felt as if they had known each other for a long time. An Yue and Chi Yuan talked non-stop about Dongfang Jin and Ye Mo’s childhoods, exchanging childhood photos and letting out harmonious laughter from time to time.
“Look, this is Xiao Jin when he was little, head like a tiger, not clever at all.”
“I think he looks great, so cute.” An Yue looked at Dongfang Jin’s childhood photos, liking him more the more she looked. Perhaps this is “the mother-in-law looks at the son-in-law and likes him more and more.” “Look at our Xiao Mo, there was no smile on his face even as a child.” An Yue looked at Xiao Mo with a hint of disdain.
“No, Xiao Mo’s photo has such emphasis; you can tell at a glance he has a lot of temperament.” The mother-in-law looks at the daughter-in-law and likes her more and more. These two were simply unable to extricate themselves while looking at the photos.
“What’s wrong with your mom and my mom? Did they know each other before?” Ye Mo said. He really doubted if these two moms knew each other previously.
“What ‘your mom’ and ‘my mom’? That’s ‘our mom’,” Dongfang Jin said.
“Weren’t you distinguishing very clearly from me just now? Why aren’t you distinguishing now?” Ye Mo said to Dongfang Jin.
“Be good, eat. Try our mom’s sweet and sour ribs; they’re a specialty.” Dongfang Jin quickly changed the subject as if he had never said those previous words.
After three rounds of wine and five courses of food, everyone was tipsy. The Dongfang elders went to sleep, and the Ye elders and female relatives also went back, leaving only Ye Pei and Ye Huan staying at the Dongfang house. By midnight, the youngsters were still making a fuss; over a dozen people were drinking and playing games, finally falling asleep in all directions.
Ye Mo didn’t drink much, so he drank the least of everyone. Dongfang Jin was a bit happy and drank a bit more. Ye Mo supported Dongfang Jin back to his room.
Looking at Dongfang Jin’s drunken appearance, Ye Mo somehow couldn’t hold back. His thin lips went up and kissed Dongfang Jin’s lips, beginning to stroke them. “Dongfang Jin, thank you, thank you.” Ye Mo’s tears flowed uncontrollably, rubbing between their skins.
“Mo, why are you crying? Don’t cry, I love you.” Dongfang Jin looked at Ye Mo through a haze. Seeing this man crying in front of him, Dongfang Jin secretly vowed in his heart that he must be good to the man in front of him in the future and love him with all his might.
That night, Dongfang Jin rarely gave up the initiative. In a state of being half-drunk and half-awake, they spent the night in “clouds and rain.” “Mo, seize the opportunity.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you.” The midnight bell rang. This man was receiving the grandest and largest gift of the New Year.
