How To Save Yourself From Being Targeted By The Anemo Archon In Genshin Impact? - Chapter 2
“Host, what happened?” The System was startled awake by his movements. Its voice, thick with sleep, drifted low as it floated beside Jiang Yubai.
Upon seeing the creature in his hand, the System circled the Wind Spirit in wonder. The System was not afraid of being discovered, as currently, no one except the Primordial God and the Host could see it.
“This is so cute! It is so tiny! Is it some kind of animal?”
Aware that there was a third party present, Jiang Yubai did not speak aloud. Instead, he responded to the System in his mind.
“Are you the System or am I? Is this not a question you should be answering?”
The System immediately fell silent out of guilt.
After internally mocking the useless System, Jiang Yubai curiously grabbed the feathers on the Wind Spirit’s head, lifting it to eye level for a closer look. It had a white body with blue stripes, but its face was as black as charcoal. Coupled with its wide, white eyes staring back at him, Jiang Yubai could not help but chuckle. “Little thing, what are you?”
The Wind Spirit finally seemed to react, and Jiang Yubai’s fingertips suddenly felt empty. He froze.
Wait. This little thing had just emitted a cyan light and vanished into thin air.
Habitually and swiftly, he reached for the other dagger tucked into his back belt. The smile had vanished from his face. His eyes scanned the surroundings with sharp vigilance. He maintained this defensive stance for several minutes, but the strange creature did not reappear.
Did it run away?
After confirming there was no further movement, Jiang Yubai asked the System, “Based on the creature we just saw, it is clear this is no ordinary world.” He glanced sideways and asked lazily, “Do you have any thoughts on this?”
This situation was highly disadvantageous for him. The System could not retrieve information about this world, so he had no idea what kind of realm he was in. Moreover, he was currently just an ordinary human.
The Cultivation Realm? He dismissed the thought as soon as it emerged. He had been to the Cultivation Realm, and there were no creatures like that there.
A magical continent? Jiang Yubai speculated. Although he had never been to such a world, a creature with such a soft and cute aesthetic could surely only exist in a land of knights and magic.
“Host, I have already tried to connect with the Primordial God. I believe there will be a result soon. When the time comes, I will definitely send you back.”
Heh, just more empty promises. Jiang Yubai rolled his eyes and picked a direction to start walking.
“Hehe, so, Host, what should we do next?” The sphere, emitting a warm white light, followed him like a loyal lackey and asked flatteringly.
“Find people, eat, and sleep.”
The System was stunned. What happened to its host, who was always the epitome of diligence? Why did he sound so much like a lazy person who had given up?
Jiang Yubai rubbed his growling stomach in annoyance. “I am starving. Can this snowy wasteland provide any living creatures?”
The System hurried forward from its trailing position. “Host, what did you just say? I did not hear clearly.”
“I am starving.”
“Not that part.”
“Tsk. I said, find someone to take me in, then eat, drink, and sleep.”
The System went silent.
“What, am I not allowed to take it easy? I have been a model worker for so long; I deserve a good rest.” Seeing the System’s dazed expression, Jiang Yubai added, “Anyway, there are no tasks in this world. I do not care what kind of world it is. Whether there is magic or strange things, none of it concerns me. I will be a nobody, avoid everyone, and wait peacefully for your news. Since I am lying low, any world will do.”
“A friendly reminder: if you had not made an error, I would be lying in my own warm bed right now instead of starving in this blizzard.” Pulling his feet out of the deep snow, Jiang Yubai struggled forward and continued, “So, you better contact the Primordial God as quickly as possible.”
“I will, I will.” The System’s round body bobbed up and down. It was also panicking. Although it told the Host it was making contact, it actually had no idea how. After arriving in this world, its connection with the Primordial God had been severed for some unknown reason. This was unprecedented. It was anxious as it watched its signals being intercepted, but it did not plan to tell the Host. It did not dare.
Its previous ability to sense danger had been restricted, and now it could do nothing. It had become a completely useless system, even though the Host had always said it was useless before. Now, it really was.
What was wrong with this world? Why were there no records of it in the database? The disconnected System screamed internally.
After walking for a long time, he finally discovered a living creature. Jiang Yubai silently crouched low, his hand reaching for the dagger on his right leg strap. His eyes fixed sharply on a white rabbit that blended perfectly into the snow. Like a leopard, he waited for his prey to let down its guard.
The rabbit first looked around vigilantly. Feeling no danger, it relaxed and lowered its head.
That was the moment.
Jiang Yubai threw the dagger instantly. The rabbit’s ears twitched, but before it could escape, the blade pierced its belly, pinning it to the ground. A vivid splash of blood blossomed on its white fur. Jiang Yubai smiled broadly; he could finally fill his stomach.
Before he could step forward, he heard the sound of something cutting through the air. His body instinctively pulled out the other dagger from behind his waist. The blades met, producing a sharp metallic clang. It was a crudely made arrow.
“Who is there!” he shouted, his gaze turning fierce.
A gaunt, sickly man holding a bow was currently being lectured by a woman who was pulling his ear. Seeing the hostility in Jiang Yubai’s eyes, she released the man’s ear and said apologetically, “I am very sorry. My clansman has no ill will toward you. We followed the rabbit all the way here. That arrow was meant for the rabbit, I did not expect”
The girl smiled awkwardly. “Fortunately, you are not hurt.”
So they were hunting the rabbit too. After hearing her explanation, Jiang Yubai understood. He had simply been too fast and snatched someone else’s prey. However, prey was not marked by anyone; it belonged to whoever killed it first. Jiang Yubai was not a saint and did not pretend to be one. Having just come from the hell of an apocalypse, he would not hand over his catch without reason.
He nodded, pulled the bloodstained dagger from the rabbit, wiped it briefly, and tucked it away. He picked up the rabbit by its ears, preparing to leave.
Hilde spoke up quickly: “Wait!”
The corner of Jiang Yubai’s mouth curled slightly. The System knew its host was about to trick someone again.
The girl walked up to Jiang Yubai and pulled back her hood, allowing a cascade of brilliant golden hair to fall. Her pale purple eyes were serious. “I am Hilde, daughter of the Gunnhildr clan chief. Are you alone?”
Hilde asked uncertainly. In such harsh weather, most people in Mondstadt were in the north under the protection of the God of Storms, Decarabian. Only those who could not tolerate the loss of freedom in the capital and the tyranny of the nobles would risk escaping. Was this young man in black also an escapee? But Hilde had never seen him in the city. If someone as beautiful as him were in the city, the nobles would have already forced him into their beds.
Judging by his speech, mannerisms, and unfamiliar clothing, he must have come from a warmer land. He was not thin and hunched like them from hunger, but his clothes were too thin to provide warmth in this blizzard. Seeing that his face was pale and bloodless from the cold, Hilde thought for a moment, unfastened her cloak, and handed it to him.
Jiang Yubai raised an eyebrow, looking at her in surprise. Hilde’s fingers curled slightly under the cloak, and her ears turned red under his scrutiny. “You are wearing so little. Do not freeze.”
Jiang Yubai glanced at the blue cloak she held with both hands and then at the few refugees approaching with longing eyes. “May I assume you want to trade this cloak for the rabbit?”
“You haven’t eaten in a long time, have you?” The men following her supported each other in the snow. Judging by their gait, they had very little strength left. He wondered why these people were running around in the snow in such a state.
Hearing this, Hilde said anxiously, “No, I am”
“Hmm? Could it be you fell in love with me at first sight?” The young man’s tone was playful.
Hilde froze. After teasing her and seeing her reaction, Jiang Yubai suddenly laughed. He accepted the warm blue cloak and placed the rabbit in Hilde’s hands.
“Just joking. Here, the rabbit is yours, but a cloak alone is not enough.” Jiang Yubai put on the cloak decisively. The feeling of being enveloped in warmth made him sigh with relief. He then looked down at her. “I am alone, so can you take me in for a while? Where are you going? My name is Jiang Yubai. You can call me Jiang.”
This was the first time Hilde had met someone with such a personality. After a brief daze, she regained her composure as a priestess. Looking at the few refugees behind her, she nodded. “We can take you in. We are going to Vindagnyr; it is a place where it is like spring all year round.”
“Jiang, where are you going?”
“I have no destination. I am just traveling around.” Jiang Yubai avoided a direct answer. He was not familiar with this continent and did not intend to expose himself easily.
“You cannot go further north.”
“Why?” Jiang Yubai asked nonchalantly.
“That is the capital ruled by the God of Storms, Decarabian. He raised a fierce wind wall to ward off the snow, but there is no freedom in the city, not to mention the oppression of the nobles.”
Storms, a God? Where exactly did you bring me?
Just from the name, he knew it was not something humans could contend with. Anything associated with the word God was dangerous. Jiang Yubai shot a sharp look at the System, which was playing dead on his shoulder.
Hilde added, “Actually, we also escaped from that place.”
“That capital you mentioned, how exactly is freedom lost there?” Jiang Yubai was quite interested and continued to ask.
“Once you enter the city, you cannot leave without permission.”
“That is it?”
Hilde looked at him in confusion and nodded.
Jiang Yubai’s expression suddenly became serious. “Is it warm inside the city? Is there enough to eat?”
“The wind wall keeps the snow out, so it is warm and there is enough to eat.”
“I have decided. I want to go there!”
Hilde’s eyes widened in shock. “What?”
“System, I have found the perfect place to retire!” Jiang Yubai was excited.
“But she said there is no freedom, and a bunch of oppressive nobles.”
“Nonsense! You call that no freedom? I would love to just lie around at home and go nowhere. That sounds like heaven! They are lucky and do not even know it, running out here to suffer. How foolish!”
The System said nothing.
Jiang Yubai added, “As for the nobles, they cannot do anything to me.”
That was true; his host was a good fighter. However.
“Host, there is also the God she mentioned.”
“I am just a nobody. I will not even see him, so what is there to fear?” Jiang Yubai replied confidently. He was a God, so he probably did not come out often. As an ordinary person, Jiang would never meet him. There was no need to worry at all.
