Text: [Genshin Impact] How to Save Yourself After Being Targeted by the Anemo Archon Author: Feng Qingjiu
“Jiang Yubai! Yubai! Where are you!”
The cries were drowned out by the relentless symphony of gunfire. He scrambled through the devouring flames in a panic. Ordinary people fled in all directions, and their screams were punctuated by the sickening, bone chilling sounds of zombies feasting.
Suddenly, a violent explosion rocked the area. The horde of zombies summoned by the Zombie King was instantly buried under the debris of a collapsing skyscraper.
Flames and black smoke spiraled toward the sky amidst flying dust and jagged rubble. The man’s frantic shouting stopped abruptly. His eyes widened as he wrenched his hand free from the girl beside him and sprinted recklessly toward the source of the blast.
The petite girl hurried after him. The man, clad in military fatigues, had completely forgotten his usual obsession with cleanliness. He dug through the collapsed building with his bare hands, his eyes bloodshot, and he screamed the name Jiang Yubai with a desperation bordering on insanity.
Seeing him like this, the girl was moved to angry laughter. She grabbed his collar and delivered a sharp slap across his face. “Li Zhuo! Snap out of it! Look at yourself! Do you still look like the leader of a base? Where is your calm? Where is your composure? Have they all been eaten by dogs?”
“You are the faith of everyone in the base, and you were Jiang Yubai’s best brother. He came here alone to kill the Zombie King for you. If you become like this, are you worthy of him?”
“Are you worthy of me?”
“Right now, you should immediately organize the survivors to wipe out the remaining zombies. Without the Zombie King to lead them, they are just a scattered mess! You know what to do!”
After a brief silence, the man lowered his head, and his voice was heavy. “I understand.”
“Before that, I must confess something to you.”
“Huh? What?”
“The one I love is Jiang Yubai. So, I am sorry.”
The girl’s eyes widened in shock as she watched the man’s retreating back in utter disbelief.
[Ding! Mission Complete.]
[Mission rewards being calculated. Congratulations, Host! Your points have reached 1,000,000. You can now redeem the Return Home reward. Would you like to redeem it now?]
The agony of dying alongside the Zombie King vanished in an instant. Jiang Yubai did not answer the system immediately. Instead, he methodically wiped the blood from his twin daggers and slid them back into the leather sheaths strapped to his thighs.
From beneath his black hair, his amber eyes looked up at the warm white, spherical orb with cute eyes hovering in front of him. It was his system.
“Of course I am redeeming it,” Jiang Yubai said, reaching out to poke it. “Completing missions across more worlds than I can count, was it not all for the sake of retirement?”
The system affectionately rubbed against his finger and sighed, [I am really going to miss you. Host, you are the fastest and most efficient mission completist I’ve ever seen!]
Not only were the missions flawless, but the speed was incredible. The system felt as if it were being charmed by its own host, much like the protagonists of the worlds they had visited.
Jiang Yubai immediately retracted his hand, looking disgusted. “Do not even start. You should just leave quickly. I do not have the energy to keep you company. I am going on a pleasant vacation!”
As he spoke, he genuinely felt happy. He was not some workhorse for the Great God. When the small worlds had problems or the world lines became unrecognizable, he was sent in to bend the plot back into place. There were no cheats and no shortcuts; he relied entirely on his own hard work.
Playing the male lead’s subordinate, clearing obstacles for him, and moving wherever there was a fire to put out was physically and mentally exhausting. Now that he had enough points, it was time to retire. He was so tired he felt like he could sleep for weeks.
The system watched his joyful expression for a moment before speaking in its official tone, [Redeeming reward. 1%. 4%. 98%.]
Jiang Yubai waited leisurely in the system space and started thinking about his future. When he got back, he would sleep until the world ended. He could never sleep well in the mission worlds because he had to protect the male lead’s safety 24 hours a day.
In modern worlds, he had to prevent the lead from being assassinated. In cultivation worlds, it was even more dangerous; he had to take blades for the lead, provide emotional support, find him girls, and hand over every top tier manual he found until the lead ascended.
This apocalyptic world was the worst. Not only was there no food, but the zombies were revolting. The stench alone was enough to make him lose his appetite for days. But for the mission, he forced himself to adapt. He protected the lead until he became the base leader, played matchmaker for the leads, and finally took out the Zombie King.
Even a workhorse would not be used like this. Now that his nerves were finally relaxed, an overwhelming sense of fatigue washed over him. He just wanted a soft bed.
Then, his dazed mind was jolted by a sudden system alarm!
[Warning! Warning!]
[Redemption failed! System request error! Emergency diagnostics in progress!]
[Analysis shows that all worlds visited by the host have collapsed! Unknown error! Unknown error!]
Jiang Yubai was stunned. “System!”
The spherical system began to shake violently. Just as Jiang Yubai touched it, a blinding white light filled his vision. His body felt weightless for a moment, and the next second, he plunged into something soft and powdery. He was surrounded by bone piercing cold.
The chill made Jiang Yubai shiver. Instinct took over; he scrambled up and drew his daggers, scanning the unfamiliar surroundings with sharp eyes. Everywhere he looked was a sea of white. The trees were buried under a blizzard, showing no signs of green, let alone any living creatures. Sensing no zombies, Jiang Yubai exhaled and sheathed his daggers.
Although it was freezing and he was not wearing much, Jiang Yubai was not bothered. He had survived far worse environments. Having confirmed that he was safe, he called for the system.
After a few calls, a weak voice echoed in his mind, [Host.]
“What happened? And where is this?”
[I am sorry, Host. For some reason, the worlds we visited have all collapsed. An error during the calculation process sent us to an unknown world.] The warm white orb appeared, looking withered and weak.
Jiang Yubai was silent. He grabbed the orb, and his smile did not reach his eyes. “So what you are saying is you cannot send me back?”
The system’s large, expressive eyes filled with terror, [Host! Calm down!]
Jiang Yubai held it down and started pummeling it. The system wailed piteously. “Calm down? How can I be calm? My vacation! My retirement! I had everything planned out, and you bring me here?”
“Where is this?” he demanded.
[I do not know where this is. It looks like a snowy wasteland.]
Jiang Yubai raised an eyebrow. “Anyone with eyes can see it is a snowy wasteland.”
[I am sorry, Host. I cannot detect what world this is.]
A bad premonition settled in Jiang Yubai’s gut. “What can you do?”
The system fell silent for a long time before whispering, [Um, does acting cute and chatting count?]
Jiang Yubai was speechless. You have literally dumped me in the middle of nowhere! You useless system!
Seeing that the system was truly pointless, Jiang Yubai simply lay back down in the snow to rest for a while. Fighting the Zombie King was exhausting, and his body was screaming for rest. He was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open.
Sinking into the soft snow, the drowsiness became even more intense. Against his dark hair, his pale face looked striking. Dressed in black combat gear that outlined his lean waist, Jiang Yubai closed his eyes and drifted off.
The system was stunned. Its eyes went wide. My brave, alert, and disciplined host just fell asleep like that?
After a few seconds of shock, seeing a thin layer of snow already covering Jiang Yubai, the system rushed to his side. [Host! You cannot sleep! Wake up, you will freeze to death!]
The noise made Jiang Yubai frown. He reached out, grabbed the orb in his palm, and muttered, “Shut up, or I will throw you away.”
The system froze and became quiet. I am worried about you, and you want to throw me away!
“Let me rest for a while.”
The system stopped wailing. Having been partners for countless worlds, it knew that even if he said he was resting, his consciousness would not fully shut down. At the slightest sign of trouble, he would alert instantly. Reassured, the system stayed quiet in his warm palm.
A long time passed. The blizzard was heavy, coating Jiang Yubai in white until he was nearly invisible against the snow. Through the storm, a wind sprite with sharp eyes spotted someone lying in the snow. Its small eyes widened. Thinking it was a human in trouble and sensing he was still breathing, it hurriedly flew toward him.
As it flew, it used its Anemo power to wrap the human in a warm breeze. It flapped its wings and circled Jiang Yubai anxiously. What should I do? Someone is unconscious, but I am not strong enough to carry him to Gunnhildr’s tribe.
As the snow on the man melted, the wind sprite finally saw his face. It froze in place. Although the sprite could not yet distinguish between human beauty and ugliness, it found the red mole under the corner of the man’s right eye strangely attractive. The sprite was simple; it liked what it liked. It liked the scent of this human and wanted to be close to him.
The two feathers on its head quivered as it summoned more warm wind to surround him, slowly descending to get closer. Before it could touch him, a sharp movement cut through the air. The wind sprite was abruptly snatched by a hand and slammed into the ground!
The sprite let out an instinctive cry, “Guji!”
Buried in the snow, its eyes were round with shock, and the feathers on its head stood up like bristling fur. Jiang Yubai, meanwhile, stared at the creature in his hand and fell into thought. He had been napping, and while it was cold, his body needed the rest. Then he had suddenly felt warm; he had initially thought his perception of temperature had malfunctioned due to the cold.
After a few seconds, it felt as hot as a furnace. That could not be a hallucination. Just as he was about to get up to investigate, he sensed something approaching and tensed for an attack.
But what is this? A weather doll?
