How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 30
“Of course not…” Xu Xingxing’s face instantly flushed crimson as she hastily sidestepped away.
She covered her cheeks, trying to cool them down, and feigned composure as she strode forward: “Let’s go, we can’t waste any time.”
Stepping over the bloodstains, she entered the jade house a step ahead of Xiao Hei.
The interior was pitch black, devoid of any light. For some reason, the surrounding air was bitterly cold, as if they had stepped into an ice cellar.
Fortunately, she could now use Xiao Hei’s magic, so she conjured a flame in her palm and glanced around.
All she could see was a dense black mist, obscuring everything from view.
This jade house really had something peculiar about it.
Remembering the bloody hand from earlier, she felt a twinge of fear and turned to see if Xiao Hei had followed. Yet, all she saw was the same black mist, with nothing else visible.
A chill ran down Xu Xingxing’s spine, and her entire body turned cold in an instant.
Where was the door?
She hadn’t taken more than a few steps, had she?
Damn it, this jade house really had something fucking weird going on!
Rubbing away the goosebumps on her arms, she took a deep breath to bolster her courage and moved forward, holding the flame aloft.
Suddenly, a strange sound reached her ears, like someone whispering or softly weeping. But when she strained to listen, there was nothing.
Suppressing the horror movie scenes flashing in her mind, she took a few more steps. Then, hurried footsteps abruptly sounded from her right, as if someone had rushed past her. She quickly chased after the sound for a few steps but found herself plunged back into darkness, with nothing gained.
She didn’t want to search anymore.
Screw this! Whoever wanted to take on this mission could have it; whoever wanted to exterminate this demon could do it. Right now, she’d rather face the evil spirits outside head-on than stay here and scare herself half to death with her own imagination.
Suddenly recalling the skill of telepathic communication, Xu Xingxing was about to call out to Xiao Hei in her mind when she heard footsteps behind her again. At first faint, they grew clearer until she realized they were approaching her steadily and unhurriedly.
She froze in place, instantly breaking out in a cold sweat.
This was awkward. Xu Xingxing had two major fears in horror movies: the sudden face-to-face encounter when turning around, and the eerie eye contact through a door crack.
These two tactics never failed to terrify her, hitting her every time. Even when mentally prepared, she could let out a scream loud enough to be heard throughout the entire dormitory.
But now, the footsteps drew closer and louder, and her legs turned to jelly, too terrified to turn around.
“Xi… Xiao Hei…”
“Hmm?” Xiao Hei responded promptly from the other end.
“There seems to be… a ghost behind me…”
The footsteps came to a halt directly behind her, and the telepathic connection suddenly went silent. A cold hand rested on her shoulder, and from the corner of her eye, she saw that the hand had blood-red nails at least an inch long!
The thing behind her leaned closer, sending a damp, chilling cold through her back. Just as the icy breath was about to touch her skin, Xu Xingxing acted faster than she could think, swinging the flame in her hand backward.
The scene before her transformed abruptly as she turned. The surrounding black mist vanished instantly, and the chilling cold dissipated. She watched in disbelief as she suddenly transitioned into an unfamiliar room.
Stunned by the sudden change and the force of her earlier swing, she couldn’t stop her momentum. As she tilted to the side, a firm hand promptly steadied her arm.
She looked at the familiar hands and black clothes, her heart surging with emotion as she lifted her head. There, she saw Xiao Hei looking down at her with a faint smile, feigning innocence as he asked, “Where did you go?”
The teasing glint in his eyes was the warmest signal she could have hoped for. Overwhelmed with emotion, she felt tears welling up and, casting aside all reason, threw herself into Xiao Hei’s embrace.
“Giegie! You finally found me!”
Xiao Hei stiffened instantly, his hands unconsciously lifting as he stared at the small figure burrowing into his chest. His mind went completely blank.
Flustered and at a loss, it took him a moment to find his voice. He pressed his lips together, hesitating as he prepared to place a comforting hand on her head, but before he could, his body was suddenly lifted into the air as the woman spun him around.
Xiao Hei: …
Speechlessness suddenly overshadowed his panic.
The woman looked up at him, her face flushed with excitement, and cooed, “Giegie, don’t lose me again, okay? I was so scared!”
“…”
Without hesitation, he grabbed the back of her collar and peeled her off him.
Xu Xingxing was now addicted to physical contact. The moment she parted from Xiao Hei, she immediately seized the hand he had just released from her collar.
Taking advantage of his distraction, she quickly interlaced their fingers and squeezed closer to him, earnestly insisting, “From now on, we’re attached at the hip. We’ll move together like this!”
The sudden sensation of another hand filling his own sent an unfamiliar intimacy surging through him, making his heart skip a beat. Instinctively, he tried to pull away.
Xu Xingxing tightened her grip with both hands, trying to stop him. Just as Xiao Hei was about to break free, she locked one hand with his and wrapped her other arm tightly around his entire arm, clinging to him with all her strength while pleading, “Bro! Bro! Please! I’m begging you! Just hold my hand!”
Xiao Hei froze instantly, his body and limbs stiffening to the point of immobility. Only a thin layer of fabric separated her softness from his arm, and with her slightest movement, he could feel the gentle curves beneath. Her series of actions and the soft sensations left his mind completely blank, overwhelmed by a turmoil he had never experienced before.
Yet, the woman’s expression was genuinely earnest. She held his arm tightly, her cheek pressed against him, her eyes glistening with anxiety. If he looked closely, he could even see his own stiff, flustered reflection in them. His heart trembled, and he quickly averted his gaze.
“Let go,” he heard himself say.
The woman paused, then reluctantly released him. His arm finally freed from that unsettling embrace, he felt an almost imperceptible pang of disappointment.
Just as their fingers were about to part, he secretly tightened his grip on her retreating hand, not daring to look at her, and added softly, “Just… holding hands is enough.”
Xu Xingxing perked up immediately, happily swinging their joined hands and giving him the kind of sincere praise children love: “Xiao Hei is the best!”
Only then did she take a moment to observe their surroundings. The interior of the house was vast, much larger than it appeared from the outside. Though many candles were lit, there were still plenty of dark corners the light couldn’t reach.
The temperature inside was noticeably warmer than the dark mist-filled space she had been in earlier. How could the change be so drastic when she had only taken a few steps?
She asked Xiao Hei, “Was it like this when you came in earlier?”
Xiao Hei still felt slightly unsettled by their clasped hands. Seeing her remain completely unbothered, a faint sense of shame and irritation stirred within him. Yet, upon reflection, he couldn’t quite grasp why. Suppressing his emotions for the moment, he replied:
“I lit the candle.”
“So that means you entered the Jade Gate and came directly to this room,” Xu Xingxing frowned. “The place I was in earlier definitely wasn’t here.”
“I know.”
“You know again?” she asked in surprise, lifting her head.
“Somehow, I feel very familiar with this place,” he paused, then added with a furrowed brow, “and I deeply dislike it.”
Hmm? Xu Xingxing finally sensed something amiss. Ever since entering the Zhou residence, he had known too many things without understanding why.
Could it be related to his lost memories?
She recalled the dreams she’d had about Xiao Hei’s past, but those dreams only vaguely recounted his experiences, without detailing the surrounding circumstances of what had happened.
If her guess was correct, that his familiarity with these things was tied to his memories, then this jade room couldn’t be a good place for Xiao Hei.
She thought of the pitiful black dog from her dream, and a wave of sorrow washed over her.
When he first mentioned wanting to recover his memories, she had readily agreed but hadn’t taken it too seriously. After all, everyone has the right to know their own past, whether it’s good or bad, joyful or sorrowful, it’s their personal choice.
But now, as she grew closer to Xiao Hei, she suddenly wondered if amnesia might actually be better for him.
Yet, given his nature, he would never give up searching, and she wouldn’t hinder his choice under the guise of “what’s best for him.”
However, she could no longer stand by idly. After a moment of thoughtful silence, she tugged gently on Xiao Hei’s hand.
Xiao Hei looked at her questioningly, the golden bell around his neck swaying softly, accentuating the striking beauty of his features.
She looked up at him earnestly and said, “If you want to remember, I’ll help you search for your memories. But you must remember: no matter what you recall, you are no longer the person you were before. Whatever you experienced in the past is over. Now you have me. I will always, always be good to you, and I will always, always protect you.”
Xiao Hei’s eyes widened in surprise, a strange light flickering within them. It was the first time Xu Xingxing had seen him so unguarded, and she found it utterly endearing. Her fingers itched with the urge to act. After a brief internal struggle, she reached up and pinched his cheek, then let her hand drift down to his chest, gently tapping over his heart:
“Don’t forget, we can communicate across great distances now, and our magical abilities are interconnected. We’re practically family. From now on, whenever I’m happy, you’ll share in that happiness. So don’t dwell on the past. We should let it go and work together to create a bright future!”
Xu Xingxing grew more impassioned as she spoke, her tone shifting into something akin to a motivational speech. Her expression was so resolute, it seemed as though she were determined to lift Xiao Hei out of poverty and into prosperity within the year.
Watching the certainty in her eyes, the warmth in Xiao Hei’s heart grew stronger, spreading throughout his entire body.
Yet, he had a faint suspicion that she probably knew something.
After all, they were bound by that so-called beast contract. After all, he could even sense her concealed transcendent cultivation level, hidden from others.
He seemed to have grown accustomed to her way of speaking. The moment a slight doubt arose in his mind, he immediately asked, “Do you know something?”
“What’s that?” Xu Xingxing exaggeratedly pointed toward a spot in the room.
Knowing she was changing the subject, he didn’t press further.
Following the direction of her finger, he saw a figure crawling on the ground, its face covered in blood and pus, making its features unrecognizable. Blood and pus oozed from its body, dripping onto the floor. In its hand was a shriveled human calf, and behind it stretched a long trail of blood leading into the darkness, likely where it had crawled out from.
The monster opened its mouth, sticking out a half-meter-long tongue toward them, and roared with a hoarse voice that sounded exactly like Madam Luo’s: “Blood, give me blood!”
“Luo Menglian?”
“Remembering her name now?” Xiao Hei teased her lightly before adding indifferently, “I noticed when I came in, she’s afraid of light. For her to expose herself like this now, her craving for fresh blood must be uncontrollable.”
“So, has she lost her sanity?”
“If she had truly lost her sanity, she wouldn’t remember her daily bloodlust. But her memories are clear, it’s more like desire has overpowered reason, and she can’t control herself.”
“You mean she still knows she’s Luo Menglian?” Xu Xingxing asked incredulously.
The monster roared at the sky, its fingers scraping against the ground with a grating sound, looking both ashamed and resentful. Before Xiao Hei could answer, it lunged forward, only to be instantly frozen in place the moment it moved.
Xu Xingxing: …
No chance to show off her skills at all.
“You’re using it more skillfully than I am now.”
Xiao Hei raised an eyebrow, the golden bell at the center of his collarbone tracing a light arc. He looked spirited and immensely pleased with himself:
“Flattery will get you nowhere.”
Through the faint candlelight, Xu Xingxing noticed the maid’s corpse in an inconspicuous corner, now completely withered. Still puzzled, she asked:
“If she only drinks blood, then where did all the other bodies go? Both of us saw that day, not a single person came out.”
“Didn’t you say you just encountered a ghost?” Xiao Hei tilted his head slightly, his dark hair swaying gently behind him.
“Feel like going to find it again?”
