How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 29
In the distance, ghostly wails pierced the air, yet the jade house remained completely unaffected, as serene and tranquil as the day before.
The pavilion, constructed of white jade, emitted a faint, warm glow that reflected in the water, creating an even more dreamlike and illusory scene.
If she hadn’t witnessed it with her own eyes the previous day, Xu Xingxing would have truly believed this to be a place of peace and beauty.
“There’s a demonic aura here?” Xu Xingxing glanced at Xiao Hei beside her and pursed her lips. “Why didn’t you mention it yesterday?”
“I wasn’t certain at the time.”
The aura had only appeared for an instant, and it was far too faint. By the time he tried to discern it carefully, it had already vanished without a trace. Moreover, the events that followed had completely distracted him, leaving him unable to calm his mind, and so he had pushed the matter to the back of his thoughts.
Xu Xingxing leaned forward and sniffed. “Is there a demonic aura now? Aside from the moisture in the air, I can’t smell anything.”
“It must be because of the jade. I can’t detect anything now either,” Xiao Hei replied.
“Then how did you guess there’s a demon here?”
“Just now, when the myriad ghosts swarmed out, the entire Zhou Manor was filled with a sinister demonic energy. But this place alone had the aura of a demon, and it was exceptionally strong.” Though it had only lasted a moment, it was enough for him to sense something unusual.
“So what do we do now? Go in?”
The Zhou Manor was now in chaos, and Zhou Wuxia had been taken under the control of the authorities. With no one paying attention to this place, entering wouldn’t be difficult.
Xiao Hei noticed that while Xu Xingxing spoke of going in, her body remained rooted in place. Understanding dawning on him, a smile crept into the corners of his eyes. “Scared?”
“Not exactly…”
It was just that she recalled the hoarse, shrill voice from the day before and combined it with the terrifying scene of the myriad ghosts swarming out earlier. Driven by adrenaline, she had charged ahead without thinking. But now, with the surroundings quiet, the images of countless ghosts pressing close to her face resurfaced in her mind. The horrifying visages of pale-eyed, long-tongued specters made her legs feel weak for a moment.
However, seeing Xiao Hei’s slightly mocking expression, she suddenly felt her pride stung.
“What storms haven’t I weathered, sister? Let’s go, in!” She made a “forward” gesture as she strode ahead.
Xiao Hei chuckled and followed her.
The two stood before the door, staring at each other for a moment. Seeing the deepening amusement in Xiao Hei’s eyes, Xu Xingxing gritted her teeth and raised her hand to knock on the door.
Just like the day before, the sound of shattering porcelain echoed from inside, accompanied by a frantic, hoarse roar, as unpleasant as ever: “Get lost!”
Xu Xingxing glanced at Xiao Hei. “What was her name again?”
“I forgot. I think her surname is Luo.”
“Oh, Madame Luo.” Xu Xingxing raised her voice and called out to the person inside, “I’m not your maidservant. I’m here to help you find release.”
The room fell silent instantly, followed by the clanking of chains.
“Who are you?” The voice suddenly sounded right against the door.
Xu Xingxing instinctively took a step back. “A disciple of Kunlun, here specifically to pay a visit to Madame Luo.”
Abruptly, all sound from inside ceased, as if a muffler had been activated. A transparent, glowing film instantly enveloped the jade door.
“Huh? Madame Luo?” Xu Xingxing was about to knock again but was stopped as Xiao Hei seized her wrist mid-motion.
Before she could ask, Xiao Hei produced a leaf from somewhere and tossed it at the door. The moment the leaf touched the jade, it evaporated into a wisp of smoke.
Xu Xingxing stared in shock and cursed under her breath. “Damn, that’s ruthless! Wasn’t she trying to die yesterday?”
“Saying you want to die and truly wanting to die are two different things.”
Fine, blame my excessive politeness.
“So what now? With this light barrier blocking us, how do we get in?”
Xu Xingxing’s mind stirred as she sensed a blade cutting through the air behind her. Just as she was about to dodge, a warm palm suddenly cupped her right cheek, pulling her forcefully to the side.
The blade swept past her face, and just before it could strike the door, it abruptly changed direction, speeding back dozens of times faster than before, trailing sparks as it reversed course!
In that split second, a bullet screen popped into Xu Xingxing’s mind:
Your hand is like a lighter, instantly igniting my skin.
Her face, pulled close by Xiao Hei, flushed as red as a primate’s rear. To keep him from noticing, she quickly pushed his hand away and turned to look behind her.
Her cheeks burned, and her heart pounded like a drum. Her inner monologue didn’t stop working, automatically splitting into two conflicting factions:
Look at you showing off! I’m a big shot now too, how could I not dodge a mere hidden weapon?!
Ahhhhhhh! He cares about me so much!
Is he just showing off? Couldn’t he have grabbed my shoulder? Why did he have to touch my face?
Touch?? Ahhhhh, his hand was so warm, I lo,
Get lost, lovesick brain! Can we please just move the plot along?!
Oh, sorry.
Xu Xingxing steadied her mind and looked toward the maid kneeling on the bridge corridor, a blade embedded in her chest.
Hey! She inwardly cheered, glancing at Xiao Hei: Looks like we’ve got our key!
The two exchanged a knowing look and approached the maid.
Xu Xingxing remained polite: “Sister, how do we open this door?”
The maid glared at her venomously, blood already bubbling from her mouth before she could speak.
Xu Xingxing raised a hand to seal the maid’s meridians and patiently repeated her question.
The maid sneered, “You wretched woman, you harmed my master and ruined our sect, and you still expect me to help you? Dream on!”
Before Xu Xingxing could respond, the maid’s body suddenly levitated, flying toward the jade door and stopping just as her nose was about to touch it. Xiao Hei spoke with a smile, his words dripping with coldness: “Will you open it yourself, or shall I throw you at it?”
The maid let out a strange, gurgling laugh, blood making sticky sounds in her throat. “Do you think I fear death?”
“With your meridians sealed, the poison on the blade will take at least two hours to take effect.” Xiao Hei’s smile was both innocent and cruel. “How about we make a bet? Let’s see if I can pry open your mouth in that time.”
“You think I fear you? A mere, ”
The maid’s words were cut short as an external force suddenly seized her hand, pressing it against the jade door with lightning speed!
The sound of sizzling flesh echoed as her entire hand was swiftly obliterated. When the force released, her arm dropped, blood spurting from the severed stump. Only then did the maid react, letting out a piercing, agonized scream!
It all happened in an instant. Xu Xingxing had no time to intervene. Staring at the gruesome scene, her stomach churned, and she couldn’t hold back dry heaves on the bridge corridor.
Good thing I didn’t eat today…
Xiao Hei took two steps forward, stopping in front of her and blocking her view.
He chuckled again, his clear voice now as haunting as a soul-snatching ghost:
“Think carefully before you speak. Don’t make another mistake.”
“Wait…” Xu Xingxing straightened up and walked over to Xiao Hei, patting his shoulder reassuringly before addressing the maid. “That person is not your master.”
The maid’s pained groans abruptly ceased as she spat, “You wretched, ”
In an instant, her other hand was pinned against the jade door by an invisible force. Immobilized, she could only scream through gritted teeth, her cries more chilling than the distant ghostly wails.
Xiao Hei’s face had lost all traces of amusement. “It seems your mind truly isn’t functioning properly.”
Xu Xingxing suppressed a wave of nausea with great effort, tugging at Xiao Hei’s sleeve. “Brother Hei, don’t do this… my heart can’t take it…”
The maid’s arm was finally released, now burned down to half the forearm by the luminous barrier, blood dripping profusely. Her body trembled violently from the excruciating pain.
“I’m not lying to you,” Xu Xingxing told the maid. “You must have sensed it too, your master’s temperament is completely different from before. Haven’t you wondered why?”
The maid’s body went rigid.
“Your master never practiced soul-transference arts. Did he ever mention seeking help from someone who could perform them? Perhaps… a descendant of Shichen?”
“Your master is dead. The Zhou Qing who has been by your side has always been a descendant of Shichen.”
The maid’s voice trembled with despair as she screamed, “Impossible! You’re lying!”
“Whether I’m lying or not, you already know the truth in your heart. There’s no need to deceive yourself.”
Xu Xingxing continued, “You’ve helped the descendant of Shichen commit countless evils. Now, with malevolent spirits wreaking havoc in the mortal realm, if you have any conscience left, you should open this door quickly. Consider it a good deed.”
“Impossible! Impossible!” The maid had descended into madness, no longer hearing reason as she mindlessly repeated those words.
Suddenly, she mustered all her strength to break free from the restraint and slammed her head against the jade door. Blood burst from her forehead like fireworks. Before Xu Xingxing could react, her vision went dark as a warm palm covered her eyes.
A soothing voice sounded above her head: “Don’t be afraid.”
Miraculously, Xu Xingxing’s racing heart gradually calmed.
She stood quietly, even instinctively taking a step backward. Just as she expected, her back met a familiar embrace. The warmth from behind seeped through their clothing, and for some reason, she felt an unprecedented sense of security.
The person behind her shifted from stiffness to softness. They stood together in silence, neither speaking.
The sizzling sound of the luminous barrier burning flesh seemed to fade away, leaving only the rhythm of their heartbeats and breathing. In this steady cadence, Xu Xingxing’s perpetually tense mind slowly relaxed.
A movement ahead caught her attention. Xu Xingxing pried apart two of Xiao Hei’s fingers, creating a slit just wide enough to observe the outside.
Xiao Hei’s fingertips trembled slightly as the woman’s eyelashes brushed against his palm, sending a tickling sensation straight to his heart. Holding her like this, feeling her presence, watching her cautiously peeking outside, she resembled a docile little creature, softening his heartbeat.
For the first time, he realized how deeply satisfying it felt to protect her.
By now, the luminous barrier on the jade door had vanished, revealing a narrow crack. A bloodied hand reached out from within, clutching the garment of the maid whose head had been partially severed.
The door opened a bit wider, revealing a pitch-black interior filled with dense, dark mist. With a slight tug, the hand dragged the maid’s corpse into the room.
Just as the jade door was about to close again, an ice pillar instantly formed between the two doors, stretching longer and forcing the gap to widen further.
Huh? Xu Xingxing was slightly taken aback, she hadn’t cast any spell.
She tilted her head back and met Xiao Hei’s handsome gaze. His eyes sparkled with a playful glint, and he looked at her with a childish grin, saying, “What? Only you can use mine? Am I not allowed to use yours?”
