How to Handle a Sickly Yandere Demon God - Chapter 3
Surging spiritual energy instantly flooded the entire courtyard. The towering tree beside Xu Yi shattered into dust, and the deafening explosion immediately rang in her ears.
Xu Xingxing calmly closed her eyes, knowing she was no match and simply gave up resistance. At worst, she’d be bedridden for a few more months, if she could provoke Xu Yi, it would be worth it.
But the expected impact never came. Instead, a figure stood before her, palm outstretched, blocking the overwhelming surge of energy.
The person’s white robes fluttered in the dispersed spiritual currents, his long, unbound hair flowing behind him like lustrous silk rippling in water. His voice rang out, clear as a babbling stream:
“Senior Brother, are you trying to kill Xing’er?”
Uncle Gu Nuo! You’ve finally arrived!
Gu Nuo and Xu Yi hailed from the same sect and had grown up together. Although Gu Nuo was trained in the Kunlun Sect, his swordsmanship had never progressed much.
He had a wide range of interests, dabbling in everything. He knew a little about formations, had some skill in mechanisms, was passable at alchemy, and could even hold his own in poison arts, a classic case of being a jack of all trades, master of none.
Later, during the Demon Extermination War, he had an epiphany and stopped wasting his time. Realizing his cultivation level was far from sufficient for the battlefield, he devoted himself to studying medicine. Over time, he healed countless individuals and had now reached the Soul Transformation realm. Xu Xing’er was one of those he had cured.
With a familiar face around, Xu Xingxing naturally felt more confident. She pinched her own thigh, tears streaming down her face as she wailed dramatically, “Uncle, don’t interfere! Let him kill me! He’s not my father! Someone who never wanted me in the first place has no right to call himself my father. Let him strike now, I’d rather join my mother, wu-!”
Xu Xingxing: “…”
Dammit! Silenced again!!
Gu Nuo glanced at her sideways, a hint of helplessness in his peach-blossom eyes. “Say less.”
He waved toward his little disciple hiding by the courtyard gate. “Your senior sister is injured. Take her away to rest.”
The little disciple teleported over in an instant, swiftly hoisting Xu Xingxing onto his back and speeding away from the scene, his legs a blur.
As they moved farther from the study, her body gradually relaxed. The delayed backlash from Xu Yi’s palm strike, combined with the erratic jostling, finally caused her to pass out.
When she awoke again, Gu Nuo was applying acupuncture needles to her forehead. She moved her lips, the silencing spell had been lifted, and quickly asked, “Well? Well? Did my father agree to let me move to the Spirit Beast Mountain?”
Gu Nuo shot her a sidelong glance and continued with the needles.
“Ah! That hurts!”
“You still know what pain feels like?” Gu Nuo scoffed. “The moment you recover, you go looking for trouble. Do you think I have too much free time? If that’s the case, you can settle your medical fees later, consider it compensation for all my efforts.”
“No, no, no! I was wrong. It wasn’t me looking for trouble, he summoned me…” Xu Xingxing’s voice trailed off under Gu Nuo’s sharp gaze.
Gu Nuo sighed. “Even if he summoned you, you shouldn’t have deliberately brought up your mother and touched his sore spot. You know how difficult it was for him to shoulder the responsibility when Kunlun was on the verge of collapse.”
“I know. That’s why I obeyed for twenty years. But, ah! So painful!”
“Enough ‘buts.’ I don’t want to get involved in your family matters.” Gu Nuo continued inserting the needles. “He said you can do whatever you want, he won’t interfere anymore. Just one condition.”
“What?” Xu Xingxing perked up.
“Do not confuse right and wrong, do not commit evil deeds, do not tarnish Kunlun’s reputation, and above all, do not consort with demons.”
“Is this all?”
“It’s not important.” Gu Nuo stood up, wiping his hands. “What matters is, you can get lost now.”
“Yay!!” Xu Xingxing cheered, raising her arms despite the silver needles still covering her head.
Gu Nuo looked at her with disdain: “Don’t forget to pay the consultation fee.”
“Ah?…”
Gu Nuo shook his head with a light laugh, though inwardly he felt troubled:
Senior brother, I wonder if the advice I gave you will truly turn out as we both hope.
The morning sunlight pierced through layers of mist, spilling over the mountains where lush greenery layered upon itself and water sparkled with dazzling light.
Xu Xingxing had visited a few times before but had always gone straight into the mountains. Now, standing before the Beast Taming Sect’s main gate, she realized it wasn’t as dilapidated as she had imagined.
Though called a main gate, it actually consisted of two thick pillars that would take three people to embrace, standing on either side of the stone steps. One pillar reached hundreds of feet high, carved with various beasts so lifelike they seemed alive. The other, however, was broken clean off at two meters, with the upper part missing entirely.
The stone steps were covered with terrifying cracks, likely remnants of the Demon War. Some damaged areas had clearly been repaired. Though no one lived here and it should have been covered in dust and fallen leaves, the steps were spotlessly clean.
She turned to the person beside her and asked, “Isn’t this place supposed to be empty?”
“Reporting to Senior Sister, as far as I know, there shouldn’t be anyone here. The few disciples left from the Beast Taming Sect, only six or seven, all moved to Sunpeak Mountain.” The young disciple sitting on his luggage wiping sweat added, “They wouldn’t have nothing better to do than come here to clean. Their strongest is only at the Golden Core stage, and their spiritual beasts are like little chicks that can’t fly this far.”
“Even though all sects have merged into one, why did they have to move to Sunpeak Mountain? This place seems more suitable for raising spiritual beasts.”
“Senior Sister, you may not know, but during the Demon War, Kunlun suffered several defeats. The demon army attacked from the sea and occupied Spirit Beast Mountain…”
“Occupied it?!”
“It was just a strategy!” The young disciple quickly waved his hands. “The sect leaders at the time devised a plan to trap the demon army on Spirit Beast Mountain. Although the demons eventually retreated, half of Kunlun’s cultivators died in that battle, and the mountain’s spiritual beasts were almost entirely consumed by the demons. Probably because of that, the Beast Taming Sect didn’t want to stay in this place of sorrow…”
Xu Xingxing looked at the broken pillar, still able to glimpse the fierceness of that battle. Time had passed, but some things could never be erased by the years.
Like Xu Yi’s tension. If she were just a reader, she might have understood him a little, but now that she had transmigrated into his daughter, even that little understanding was washed away by her heartache for Xu Xing’er.
“You seem young, but you know quite a lot. However,” Xu Xingxing changed the subject, “I asked you to help me move, so why did you bring your own luggage?”
The disciple hurriedly stood up and bowed: “Reporting to Senior Sister, it’s… it’s… the sect leader, he… he ordered me to…”
“Keep an eye on me?”
He bent even lower: “Senior Sister is truly perceptive…”
Xu Xingxing rolled her eyes but quickly accepted it: “Then what’s your name?”
“Reporting to Senior Sister, I am Fang Zhiming. I’ve told you before… Ah! Wait for me!”
Xu Xingxing had already walked through the gate carrying two large bundles. Fang Zhiming quickly shouldered his luggage and followed.
By the time the two found suitable rooms and finished cleaning up, the sky had already darkened.
As she stepped out of the door, she saw Fang Zhiming arranging dishes in the main hall. When he noticed her, he scratched his head and said, “Senior Sister, I haven’t reached the stage of fasting yet, so I prepared some food. Would you like some?”
“Sure.” She glanced over, picked up her chopsticks, and asked, “Only vegetables?”
“I remember there was plenty of rice and steamed buns in the pack, but I only found wheat flour just now…” Fang Zhiming scratched his head again. “Maybe I forgot to bring them.”
Xu Xingxing wasn’t picky and nodded before starting to eat. Both were quite tired, so they spoke little during the meal. After finishing, they returned to their respective rooms.
The nights on Spirit Beast Mountain were pleasantly cool, and since it was a place she had long yearned for, she slept soundly through the night.
The next day, Xu Xingxing deliberately rose early and flew straight into the mountains without even having breakfast.
The area was vast, and it took her several trips just to survey the nearby regions. She also soared on her sword to get a general overview of the mountain ranges and terrain.
Spirit Beast Mountain wasn’t a solitary peak but a range stretching southwest, featuring diverse landscapes, mountains, forests, grasslands, lakes, and even a small desert, all coexisting harmoniously without interfering with one another.
To the west, it bordered the ocean, while to the south stood an immensely towering mountain. Beyond that lay the demon realm, now entirely sealed off from demonic creatures. Over the past thirty years, humans had gradually taken over the area, developing it into a sizable town.
She spent the day exploring freely but found no trace of any spirit beasts. By evening, she was utterly exhausted and about to return on her sword when the Beast Tome in her consciousness suddenly chimed.
When the system had been installed, it had explained the Beast Tome’s functions and thoughtfully demonstrated its use. So, when a sound resembling a high-speed train arrival announcement rang out, Xu Xingxing immediately focused intently on the mechanical voice that followed:
[A spirit beast has been detected 500 meters to the south. Please proceed to investigate.]
The message repeated three times before the Beast Tome fell silent again.
Excited, Xu Xingxing sheathed her ice sword. Since this was a dense forest, she couldn’t travel by sword and had to proceed on foot.
The setting sun filtered through the leaves, casting golden speckles on the thick layer of fallen leaves and knee-high shrubs.
She walked briskly, the rustling of leaves underfoot accompanying her steps.
Two hundred meters.
One hundred meters.
Fifty meters.
She arrived.
There was nothing but trees.
No… This was deep in the forest, and after the heavy rain a few days prior, the air had been thick with the scent of decaying leaves.
Now, that smell was tinged with a faint hint of blood.
Blood?
She immediately grew alert. Animals were divided into carnivores and herbivores, and spirit beasts were no exception.
Xu Xingxing summoned an ice blade, gripping it tightly as she cautiously stepped backward. Suddenly, she felt a warm sensation on her cheek. Instinctively, she touched it, her hand came away stained crimson.
In that split second, she leaped back dozens of meters. A thunderous roar echoed as a massive, ink-black dog, several meters tall, landed exactly where she had been standing!
The giant dog had pitch-black fur, as if splashed with ink, and crimson eyes. It bared its teeth, glaring at her. Had she not reacted swiftly, she would have already been devoured.
As a Nascent Soul stage cultivator, she hadn’t detected even a trace of this beast’s presence. Clearly, its level was no lower than hers, and a direct confrontation would give her little chance of victory.
Damn system, damn Beast Tome! At the very least, it should have warned her about the spirit beast’s danger level!
Wait…
The giant dog’s breathing was off!
The panting sounds escaping from its mouth resembled an old, worn-out bellows, and upon closer listening, they were mixed with sticky, unpleasant noises.
This sound… it’s like the lungs are bleeding…
Xu Xingxing focused her gaze and noticed the giant dog was bleeding, the leaves beneath its feet already completely stained red!
It’s injured!
Just as she intended to observe more closely, the giant dog let out a low growl and lunged at her! Xu Xingxing leaped into the air, flipping mid-air before landing behind the massive creature.
In that brief moment of close contact, her heart raced with fear.
The dog was covered in countless wounds, some so deep the flesh was torn open, revealing bone beneath. Its fur was soaked with blood, which then dripped profusely onto the ground. Yet, the giant beast seemed oblivious, attacking with all its might!
If left untreated, this giant dog would surely bleed to death.
Xu Xingxing formed a hand seal in front of her chest. The leaves in the forest rustled as frost began creeping up from the giant dog’s paws. In less than a minute, it was completely encased in ice.
Just as she considered how to transport it back, flames suddenly erupted from the giant dog’s body. White steam rose from the outer layer of ice, and in an instant, the thick frozen shell melted away!
Freed, the giant dog grew even more enraged. It roared at her, and in the blink of an eye, summoned a trail of flames that shot across the ground straight toward Xu Xingxing.
She barely dodged the attack when she saw the blood it had spilled on the ground transform into crimson flames, encircling her like magma!
Simultaneously, the giant dog coughed up a large amount of blood, its body swaying unsteadily.
No good, if this continues, it will die!
Is there any way to make it stop? Think fast, find a way to make it stop!
In that flash of a moment, a familiar mechanical voice echoed in her mind:
[Host has detected a spiritual beast. Reward: one Beast Coin, redeemable for items in the Hundred Beasts Tome appendix.]
…Is the Hundred Beasts Tome running on 3G?!
She had found it quite a while ago!
The system had briefly mentioned a reward mechanism, but since her consciousness had remained undisturbed until now, she assumed it would only count after successful treatment.
Who would have thought it was because this guide was so slow to react!
While her mind raced with complaints, she narrowly avoided several more attacks from the giant dog. Thanks to the recent heavy rain and her control, the surrounding dense forest only saw a minor spread of flames.
Xu Xingxing moved to a safer spot, opened the appendix, found anesthesia, and clicked to redeem it.
As the usage instructions appeared before her eyes, a bottle of medicine materialized in her hand.
Seeing the giant dog converting its blood and spiritual energy into flames, Xu Xingxing decisively formed another hand seal, summoning a blizzard of ice and snow.
The rain and snow extinguished the flames, and amidst the swirling snowflakes, she concealed her form.
The giant dog roared again, its crimson eyes searching for Xu Xingxing but finding only increasingly dense snowfall.
The earlier use of spiritual power and loss of blood had left it weakened. In the thick curtain of snow, its mind grew increasingly hazy. Suddenly, the young girl appeared right in front of it. As it opened its jaws to bite, it sensed something entering its mouth!
Its massive frame jolted to a halt, then collapsed. Xu Xingxing manipulated the flying snow to cushion its fall, allowing it to lie gently on the ground.
After collapsing, the giant dog gradually shrank, transforming into a black dog slightly larger than an adult Alaskan Malamute.
The moment she saw the black dog, Xu Xingxing’s body stiffened abruptly, her eyes instantly welling up with tears. Knowing there was no time to waste, she swiftly tore off her outer garment and began bandaging its wounds.
Tears streamed down uncontrollably as her sobs grew louder.
It wasn’t because this was her first time seeing an animal so severely injured, though she had limited experience, she wasn’t the type to burst into tears at the sight of an injured animal.
It was because this black dog looked so much like her Uncle Hei.
Uncle Hei had passed away when she was twelve. By then, he was already very old. A new, aggressive dog had been brought to the kennel, and despite her grandfather’s best efforts, he couldn’t tame it. He planned to euthanize it the next day, but the dog seemed to sense it and quietly broke free from its restraints that night.
Uncle Hei always slept indoors with her. The kennel’s restroom was in the yard, and every time she went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, he would follow her.
That night, Uncle Hei tried desperately to stop her from going outside. Confused, she opened the door and found herself face to face with the aggressive dog.
