How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 67
“Tricks, all just tricks straight girls use to trap you!”
Over the weekend, after returning from a meal at a restaurant, Jiang Yuran couldn’t hold back any longer and spoke with conviction.
Chen Yushu frowned slightly, somewhat puzzled as she asked, “How can you tell?”
“I swear on my over ten years of experience!” Jiang Yuran raised four fingers, her expression resolute.
“Your experience? Chen Yushu’s expression turned subtle.
“Yeah! Did you forget that straight girl I told you about before? It’s exactly the same situation as Lu Wei! Illusions, all illusions!” The past was too painful to recall, and Jiang Yuran sighed, speaking with a world-weary tone. “They just enjoy the ambiguous atmosphere, they never actually intend to date you!””
“Really?” Chen Yushu was half-convinced, half-doubting.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
“So? Do you think she’s interested in me?” Lu Wei pulled up a small stool and sat next to Jiang Yunxi, asking eagerly.
Jiang Yunxi rubbed her temples in frustration. “How would I know? I’m not her.”
“No, you.” Lu Wei bit her lip helplessly, growing anxious. “How can you not know? Didn’t you go to help me scope out the situation?”
“What can you tell in such a short time? Besides.” Jiang Yunxi paused. Besides, you didn’t tell me that Jiang Yuran would would be there too.
With busy schoolwork, it had been over a week since they’d last seen each other.
Lu Wei was going crazy. “Besides what? Just say it!”
Why hasn’t Xiao Jiang been contacting her lately? Could it be that she doesn’t like her anymore? Jiang Yunxi wore a troubled expression, lost in her own thoughts, and couldn’t help muttering, “No, she probably does like me.”
“Ah? Really?”Hearing this, Lu Wei’s eyes lit up with surprise.” “You think so too? Then should I keep going for it?”
Snapping back to reality, Jiang Yunxi only caught the last part. Seeing Lu Wei’s expectant face, she couldn’t bear to discourage her and nodded. “Yeah, go for it.”
As if greatly encouraged, Lu Wei was filled with motivation. “Okay, senior, just wait for my good news!””
“I hope so.”
Half a month later.
“Jiang Jiang, I feel like Lu Wei might actually ” Chen Yushu pulled out an exquisite wooden comb from behind her back and spoke hesitantly. “I looked it up this shop mainly sells wedding supplies, and the pattern on this.”
Jiang Yuran: “Pfft, I thought it was something major. These little tricks my ex – ambiguous partner used to do the same. Back in the day.”
“Really?”Chen Yushu asked with hesitation.” Although Jiang Yuran spoke with certainty, she felt something wasn’t quite right.
“Trust me.” Jiang Yuran still looked completely confident.
Chen Yushu bit her lip awkwardly her intuition told her not to believe it.
Seeing this, Jiang Yuran’s expression turned slightly more serious as she spoke earnestly, “Anyway, don’t respond yet. Wait a bit longer good food isn’t afraid of being late. Let’s see what Lu Wei plans to do. What if she’s just acting on a whim?”
Chen Yushu thought for a moment and felt there was some logic to her words.
After all, Jiang Yuran indeed had plenty of experience. Better to believe it than not.
Another half month passed.
[How am I not family-oriented? Anyone who ends up with me would be super happy!]
Chen Yushu scoffed. [Who’d believe that? Narcissist.]
Lu Wei: [If you don’t believe me, then give it a try.]
The conversation somehow shifted to this topic. Chen Yushu held her phone, staring at the playful, yet repeated, probing from the other side, her heart in turmoil.
Her fingers hovered over the screen, itching to move, a surge of impulse urging her to lay it all out plainly.
Just then, Jiang Yuran passed by her. Chen Yushu bit her lip anxiously, called out to stop her, and briefly recounted the chat. “I feel like Lu Wei isn’t joking.”
“Wait, let me sort this out first.” Jiang Yuran rubbed her chin, looking troubled. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. “I know what’s going on! Some straight girls are like this the more you don’t take the bait, the more they push.”
The more Chen Yushu listened, the more something felt off. She drew out her words skeptically, “Really?”
“Why won’t you believe me?” Jiang Yuran clapped her hands together, sighing in frustration. “I’ve stumbled into more pitfalls with straight girls than you’ve eaten grains of salt. Would I lie to you?”
“But!”
“No buts!” Jiang Yuran cut her off immediately. “If Lu Wei really likes you, she’ll eventually confess. Don’t you rush it.”
Chen Yushu nodded helplessly. “Alright.”
“Sigh.” Lu Wei slumped in her chair, looking utterly dejected. “Senior, I think you were wrong before. Chen Yushu doesn’t like me at all!”
Jiang Yunxi looked up at her, surprised she had come to this realization. “What makes you say that?”
Lu Wei let out another long sigh. “You said I’ve been so obvious, but Chen Yushu, how could she.? It’s impossible she hasn’t noticed at all, right?”
“Maybe she thinks you’re joking,” Jiang Yunxi stated calmly. “After all, you’ve probably done this kind of thing plenty of times before.”
“This is totally different! And it’s not just once or twice I’ve practically spelled it out!” Lu Wei closed her phone, frantically ruffling her hair. “Do I really have to lean in and whisper it clearly and plainly in her ear?”
Jiang Yunxi advised, “I’d suggest you don’t do that. What if she’s already sensed your feelings, but.”
“Oh, you mean,” Lu Wei clutched her chest, feigning heartache, “Chen Yushu simply doesn’t like me? So she’s pretending not to know?”
That outcome stings even more, doesn’t it?
Jiang Yunxi pondered for a moment. “It’s not impossible.”
“…Alright, I get it.” Lu Wei bit her lip, turned away quietly, and spoke in a pitiful tone, “No wonder Chen Yushu either ignores my hints or avoids the topic. So, so she just.”
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Jiang Yunxi swallowed nervously, trying to comfort her. “Well, it’s not the worst outcome yet.”
“This isn’t the worst?” Lu Wei sniffled. “Don’t lie to me.”
“At least she still values your friendship and isn’t avoiding you.”
Lu Wei: “…”
Jiang Yunxi: “What I mean is, you still have a chance.”
“Really?” Though she asked, the corners of Lu Wei’s mouth slowly curled upward. Without waiting for Jiang Yunxi’s reply, she declared firmly, “Good, no need to say more. I believe you.”
Jiang Yunxi: “…”
After the last class ended, before they knew it, the semester was nearly over, officially counting down to summer break.
“The exam schedule hasn’t been finalized yet, I don’t know exactly when the holiday will start either.” Chen Yushu stood in a corner of the library corridor, lowering her voice as she spoke to her mother on the other end of the line. “At the latest, July 8th.”
Mom: “Alright, then remember to buy your ticket, don’t wait until.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know.” After hanging up, Chen Yushu was about to put her phone away when she suddenly felt a wave of warmth approaching. Turning her head, she came face-to-face with Lu Wei’s magnified expression. Startled, goosebumps immediately rose on her arms, and she said with slight irritation, “What are you doing?”
“Scared you? I didn’t do anything.” Lu Wei took off her sun hat and placed it on Chen Yushu’s head, fanning herself with her hand.
Chen Yushu muttered, “So annoying,” and took off the hat, which still carried the lingering warmth from the sun.
She couldn’t help but glance at Lu Wei, noticing the sweat beading on her forehead and the flush on her cheeks. The heat seemed to radiate through the air toward her. “Where have you been?”
“Here.” Lu Wei raised the lemonade in her hand and, taking advantage of the moment, suddenly pressed it against Chen Yushu’s face.
The cold sensation made Chen Yushu reflexively shrink back. Seeing Lu Wei’s triumphant smile, she grew even more flustered and reached out to push her away.
Anticipating this, Lu Wei stepped forward first, pinning her against the railing, and grinned. “Hehe, it’s too hot, so I went to buy two cups.”
“Not doing anything productive.” Chen Yushu blinked helplessly. “Move aside, I need to study.”
“Won’t.” Lu Wei spoke with a shameless expression.
The fabric of summer clothes was thin, and pressed closely together, Chen Yushu could clearly feel the warmth of Lu Wei’s body. Suddenly feeling uneasy, she tensed up and said weakly, “Get away, I really need to study.”
“Fine.” Lu Wei pouted, reluctantly withdrawing her hand. Suddenly, her gaze paused, and she slowly broke into a smile. “What’s up with your face?”
“What?” Chen Yushu’s eyes darted away, and she hesitantly touched her cheek.
Lu Wei licked her lips, amused by her reaction. “My face is red from the sun. What about you? What’s your reason?”
“None of your business!” Chen Yushu’s face grew even hotter, flushed with embarrassment and anger. “What else could it be? You made me angry!”
“I don’t believe it.” Lu Wei shook her head, leaning closer, her eyes bright and sparkling with mischief.
Chen Yushu’s mind went blank, and she stared blankly at the person in front of her.
Seeing this, Lu Wei felt a tickle in her heart and couldn’t resist probing further. “Chen Yushu, you’re not feeling shy, are you…”
“What’s it to you?” With a sudden burst of strength, Chen Yushu pushed Lu Wei away. Without even looking at her, she hurried toward the study room.
Lu Wei let out a breath, feeling as though she had punched cotton frustrated and unsatisfied. She chased after her. “Can’t I even ask?”
“Didn’t I already say? You made me angry.” Chen Yushu didn’t stop walking, but just as she was about to enter the study room, the person behind her suddenly grabbed her hand.
Lu Wei leaned close to her ear, almost whispering, “But besides the sun, there’s another reason my face is red.”
“Wha,” Chen Yushu turned to ask, but Lu Wei had already slipped past her and entered the study room.
Lu Wei’s words echoed in her mind, and she couldn’t help but recall a sentence she had once read in a book.
His blush was not from the subtropical climate, but because the sun was unfaithful that day, betraying the heartbeat of late summer in 1994.
