How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 59
Lu Wei typed this sentence into the chat box, unconsciously holding her breath. A surge of immense courage suddenly welled up inside her, she wanted to passionately and wholeheartedly declare to Chen Yushu right then and there that she liked her! That was why she had gone to such great lengths to do so many things!
But a moment later, reason returned, and she slowly deleted it, editing the message again.
【It’s not your turn to answer the question yet.】
Chen Yushu: 【Lu Wei, do you have a death wish?】
“So fierce,” Lu Wei murmured softly, straightening up a bit. 【I want to be with you forever. I want you to feel the same way I do. So, I have to work hard and not be a bad person.】
Chen Yushu chuckled lightly. Who said she wasn’t a bad person? She was really annoying!
Lu Wei: 【But we made a pinky promise before, and it still counts, right?】
Chen Yushu pouted and replied with a reluctant “Mm.”
【Hehe.】 Lu Wei instantly brightened up, unable to resist rolling around on her bed.
Just then, the dormitory lights went out it was Chen Yushu’s bedtime. Lu Wei quickly sent a goodnight message.
Chen Yushu lay down, her emotions in turmoil, unable to fall asleep for a long time. She abruptly opened her eyes and screamed inwardly, Lu Wei is so annoying!
She made her feel awkward, caused her insomnia she was absolutely detestable! She didn’t want to like Lu Wei anymore!
Frustrated, Chen Yushu fished out a small notebook from under her pillow and gently flipped through a few pages, examining the words by the light of her phone screen.
Perhaps because she hadn’t looked at it in a while, the words inside felt somewhat unfamiliar. It was a bad sign she needed to be cautious and not let Lu Wei stir up her emotions recklessly again.
Lu Wei couldn’t sleep either, but it was due to excitement. With no one suitable to share this secret joy with, she couldn’t help but sit up, open Weibo, and write a long post, setting it to “visible only to me” before posting it with a sense of relief.
Chen Yushu hadn’t been disliking her lately that was already a huge success. Yay! The more Lu Wei thought about it, the happier she became, practically bouncing with joy.
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, more than half of April had passed. The familiar campus runs became a nightly routine.
“Aren’t you going for a run tonight?” An Nan asked curiously. “Why are you putting on makeup?”
Lu Wei applied her lipstick and pressed her lips together. “Why can’t I wear makeup for a run?”
An Nan: “No one can even see it in the dark.”
Who said no one would see? Lu Wei silently retorted in her mind. After one last careful check of her makeup, she slung her bag over her shoulder and headed to evening self-study.
After self-study ended, Chen Yushu came out of the teaching building and looked around but couldn’t spot Lu Wei. Just as she was about to call her, she saw Lu Wei emerge from the side of the building, holding a small mirror and checking herself from left to right.
As Lu Wei approached, a faint, fresh fragrance wafted over. Chen Yushu glanced at the meticulous makeup on her face, shook her head, and murmured, “Butterfly.”
Lu Wei quickly put away the mirror, feeling a bit embarrassed as she walked up to Chen Yushu. “Let’s go.”
“Mm.”
The two arrived at the track. After running a couple of laps with Chen Yushu, Lu Wei gradually slowed down, took Chen Yushu’s phone, and continued ahead.
Catching her breath lightly, Chen Yushu strolled along the edge of the track, watching Lu Wei’s retreating figure.
Soon, Lu Wei caught up from behind and suddenly wrapped her arms around Chen Yushu, pushing her forward a few steps. Chen Yushu could clearly feel the warmth of the person behind her and the sound of her panting close to her ear.
Instantly, a tingling numbness spread across Chen Yushu’s neck. She couldn’t help but squirm slightly and urged Lu Wei, “Hurry up and run, your pace is gone.”
“Aren’t you running with me?” Lu Wei’s breath was still uneven, her warm exhalations brushing against the back of Chen Yushu’s ear.
Chen Yushu shrugged her shoulders and swatted Lu Wei’s hand. “You’re supposed to be running for me. It’s already a favor that I came to keep you company.”
“Oh, really? Then I should thank you,” Lu Wei said, tilting her head so her lips almost imperceptibly grazed Chen Yushu’s jaw, lingering at an intimate and ambiguous distance.
“Get lost!” Chen Yushu lightly nudged Lu Wei’s stomach with her elbow and successfully broke free.
Lu Wei theatrically clutched her abdomen, running forward while glancing back at her with a grin.
Chen Yushu stood still, watching Lu Wei’s face grow increasingly blurry until it was enveloped by the warm glow of the streetlights, as if she had slipped into another dream.
The patterned butterfly was indeed quite beautiful.
Chen Yushu’s heart skipped a beat unexpectedly. She quickly turned her head to gaze at the gloomy, gray sky.
Lu Wei ran fast. After completing the three-kilometer run, there was still plenty of time. Chen Yushu half-supported her as they sat on the bleachers to rest.
“Give me your phone,” Chen Yushu said, reaching out. Taking the phone, she looked satisfied as she checked the running app’s data. “Hmm, not bad. You were a lot faster today, especially when you ran on your own. So, how about tomorrow you ”
“Don’t even think about it!” Lu Wei turned her head, eyes wide with feigned anger, and sternly cut her off. “If you don’t come with me, I won’t run!”
Chen Yushu pouted, visibly displeased, and put the phone away.
Lu Wei stole a glance at her expression and cautiously poked her arm. “Are you mad?”
“…” Chen Yushu shook off her hand and turned away, clearly not wanting to engage.
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t run for you,” Lu Wei whined, clinging to Chen Yushu as she tried to take her hand, her voice softening. “But if you don’t come with me, I’ll have no motivation. You can just stand there.”
The moment their hands touched, Chen Yushu jerked away. After a few attempts, Lu Wei simply stood up and sat directly on Chen Yushu’s lap, looping her arms around her neck and cooing, “I’m just scared of being lonely and want you to keep me company. What’s wrong with that?”
Chen Yushu tried to push herself up from the seat, but Lu Wei cleverly pinned her down, leaving her unable to move an inch. Unable to hold back, she snapped, “Lu Wei, are you insane? Get off!”
“So fierce,” Lu Wei exclaimed with exaggerated drama, then suddenly pointed to a couple diagonally across from them. “Look how gentle they are.”
Chen Yushu gritted her teeth and followed her gaze. The couple was in a position nearly identical to theirs, except they were sweetly flirting.
Suddenly aware of how intimate their own posture was, Chen Yushu’s face flushed hot, and she quickly turned away in embarrassment. But the next moment, she almost brushed noses with Lu Wei.
Instantly, Chen Yushu’s pupils dilated, and she unconsciously held her breath.
The noise of the sports field seemed to fade into the distance. The world grew so quiet that only the sound of their heartbeats remained. Lu Wei’s gaze slowly roamed over Chen Yushu’s face before settling on her lips. The ambiguous atmosphere swelled, reaching its peak.
Realizing what she was thinking, Lu Wei’s heart jolted, and she quickly snapped back to reality. Then, her entire body began to feel unnaturally stiff.
Her arm was still hooked around Chen Yushu’s neck, and from extreme nervousness, her palm was already slick with sweat. She bit the tip of her tongue, trying to ease the tension of the moment.
Chen Yushu stiffened her back, forcing herself to stay calm as she watched Lu Wei’s every move.
For a fleeting moment, it felt as if they were truly a couple deeply in love.
Just then, people on the sports field gradually dispersed, and the couple on the bleachers walked away hand in hand. Lu Wei deliberately glanced in their direction and remarked, “See? They have such a good relationship.”
“Well, you can only watch.” Taking advantage of the moment, Chen Yushu pinched her waist and was slightly surprised to find there wasn’t much excess flesh. Her hand tentatively brushed against Lu Wei’s abdomen.
Lu Wei caught her expression and straightened up, pulling her clothes up a little to reveal a glimpse of her slim, toned waistline.
Seeing this, Chen Yushu’s face flushed instantly, and she hurriedly tugged Lu Wei’s clothes back down. “What are you doing? Are you some kind of pervert?”
“Who was the one touching me just now? Who’s the real pervert here?” Lu Wei grabbed her hand, stood up, and announced loudly, “See this? This is the very hand that did it!”
Chen Yushu grew even more embarrassed, struggling to break free. “You’re talking nonsense! I didn’t touch you!”
“Alright, if you touched me, you touched me. It’s not like I’m going to call the police on you,” Lu Wei said, half-joking and half-serious. “But you have to take responsibility for it.”
“Take responsibility, my foot!” Chen Yushu shook her off forcefully. “If I have to take responsibility for just touching you, then back when you.”
When you kissed me, why didn’t you take responsibility?
Lu Wei: “What about me?”
Chen Yushu immediately fell silent. “Nothing. I’m leaving.”
Lu Wei caught up and tried to grab her hand again, but Chen Yushu dodged every attempt. “Fine, if you don’t want to take responsibility, then don’t.”
They walked along a tree-lined avenue with no streetlights, the light dim and faint.
After just a few steps, they ran into the same couple from the bleachers again.
Chen Yushu stuck out her tongue playfully and, deliberately pitching her voice higher, said sarcastically, “See? No matter how good their relationship is, you can only watch.”
“Hey, then aren’t you…” Lu Wei seized the chance to grab her hand, interlacing their fingers and holding on tightly. “Aren’t you envious of their relationship?”
Chen Yushu frowned in confusion. “Why would I be envious of them?”
“Uh…” Lu Wei hesitated for a moment. “Such a good relationship aren’t you envious? Don’t you want us to be like them too?”
“What did you say?” Chen Yushu turned back and asked slowly.
Unable to see her expression clearly, Lu Wei grew flustered and uncertain, so she added, “I mean, have a relationship as good as theirs.”
“Oh.” Chen Yushu let out a sigh and said flatly, “No, I don’t want to be with you.”
“Why?” Lu Wei shook her arm, whining discontentedly. “Why don’t you want to be with me?”
They were walking uphill, and Chen Yushu was already tired. Being dragged along by Lu Wei made it even harder to move, so she replied impatiently, “Fine, fine, I’ll be with you. Whatever you want, we’ll do.”
“Really?” Lu Wei’s eyes lit up, and she swallowed. “Then make some changes so our relationship can get even better.”
Chen Yushu rolled her eyes helplessly and said lazily, “What kind of changes do you want me to make? Transform seventy-two times? And then what?”
“Just like that girl earlier,” Lu Wei didn’t dare to speak too directly and could only hint vaguely. “If you make a slight change, our relationship could take a step forward. What do you think?”
After saying this, Lu Wei guiltily lowered her head, nervously staring at Chen Yushu’s calves as she walked.
The air fell silent for a moment. The next second, Chen Yushu suddenly turned around, tapped her on the head, and said fiercely, “Change? I’ll change for you right now. Can you feel it?”
Lu Wei was dazed by the tap and took a moment to react. “You’re just making it worse!”
“Serves you right!”
Recalling this past incident, Lu Wei felt both relieved and disheartened. As they approached the dormitory building, she stared at Chen Yushu’s back, pursed her lips in frustration, and unconsciously slowed her pace.
Sensing a subtle force pulling her backward, Chen Yushu turned around and urged, “Walk faster.”
Lu Wei’s lips twitched slightly as she caught up and walked side by side with Chen Yushu. In a deliberately casual tone, she asked, “By the way, after seeing that couple tonight, have you ever thought about.”
“Haven’t you had enough?” Chen Yushu gritted her teeth. “Thought about what?”
“Have you ever thought about being in a relationship?” To mask her guilt after asking, Lu Wei quickly added, “After all, you’ve never been in one before, and you saw how that couple earlier was quite.”
Before she could finish, Chen Yushu suddenly stopped walking. After a moment of silence, she asked, “What? Do you want to be in a relationship?”
“Huh?” For a moment, Lu Wei found herself in a dilemma. She couldn’t say yes, nor could she say no. Before long, she broke out in a light sweat from the pressure.
Chen Yushu raised her eyes. “Did I hit the mark?”
