How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 27.3
The colorful lights in the room flickered incessantly, occasionally sweeping across their faces, alternating between brightness and shadow. Chen Yushu’s gaze gradually drifted until, unconsciously, it settled on Lu Wei’s profile.
Just then, Lu Wei also turned her head.
Caught off guard by the sudden eye contact, Chen Yushu had no time to look away. Her heart skipped a beat.
Sitting between them, Qi Yan glanced at Ran Qin and Zhou Rongrong with a mix of disdain and reluctant curiosity. Unable to bear it any longer, she wanted to share the spectacle with the other two. But when she looked up, she suddenly noticed that these two were also locking eyes?
Unsure, she looked again.
She turned her head left and right, then abruptly flared up in anger.
She shouldn’t be sitting in the middle! She should be lying under the bed!
“Whose song is this?” Ran Qin asked.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Qi Yan stood up and took the microphone. “Mine, mine.”
As she moved away, the middle seat became vacant, and Lu Wei immediately scooted closer to Chen Yushu.
Qi Yan caught sight of this and thought, Well, well, everyone’s pairing up, huh? She wasn’t about to let them have their way!
“Lu Wei, come sing with me. Hurry up!” she said, walking over to pull Lu Wei up and shoving a microphone into her hand.
“What are you doing?” Lu Wei looked at her, baffled, and tried to put the microphone down to return to her seat.
“The song’s starting, sing!” Qi Yan held her hand firmly and brought the microphone to her lips.
It was another sweet, upbeat love song. Lu Wei, following the melody, unconsciously began to sing.
Qi Yan nodded in satisfaction, mimicking Ran Qin and Zhou Rongrong’s earlier antics. She deliberately took Lu Wei’s hand and began singing a duet with exaggerated sweetness.
But as they sang, Qi Yan suddenly sensed something amiss. Puzzled, she followed Lu Wei’s gaze and realized she was exchanging meaningful looks with Chen Yushu.
Ganging up on me, are you?! Ah!
Qi Yan gritted her teeth, tightening her grip on the microphone. True strength lies in never complaining about the circumstances!
With that thought, she immediately positioned herself in front of Lu Wei, physically blocking their line of sight, and continued the sweet duet. “About love, there was no imagined ending in the past. From that day on.”
Lu Wei tilted her head, peering past Qi Yan, her gaze returning to Chen Yushu. Their eyes met again, and she couldn’t help but break into a grin.
How dare they ignore me so blatantly! Qi Yan shot an angry glare at the two of them, growing even more determined. Following the angle of Lu Wei’s tilted head, he swayed back and forth, repeatedly blocking their line of sight.
Only then did Lu Wei notice something was off and asked quietly, “What are you doing?”
Qi Yan pouted, feigning innocence. “What’s wrong?”
Lu Wei refused to believe it and suddenly leaned his upper body to one side. Qi Yan followed a beat too late, then flashed a grin with all eight teeth showing and chuckled, “Hehe.”
“You!” Lu Wei looked at her with a mix of confusion, craning her neck as if eager to explain something to Chen Yushu.
This scene naturally caught Chen Yushu’s eye, and she couldn’t help but recall that night when Lu Wei stood with her back turned, making a vow.
A warmth and a pang of sorrow stirred in her chest, which, after watching the two of them banter, finally melted into a faint smile as she lowered her head.
That fleeting moment was captured by Lu Wei, whose wandering gaze suddenly halted, narrowing until it could only focus on that one small scene.
Even though the private room was dimly lit, that smile froze in her mind, vivid and clear.
“Alright, alright, I’ll let you two have your way. Hurry up, it’s your turn to sing,” Qi Yan conceded helplessly, stepping aside generously as she urged.
That strange feeling flashed through Lu Wei’s chest and vanished just as quickly. Coming back to her senses, she realized she could now openly look at Chen Yushu, yet for some reason, she instinctively lowered her gaze to avoid it. Turning around, she faced the lyrics on the screen, pretending to have forgotten the words, and calmly continued singing.
As the song ended, a server came in with juice. Lu Wei sat down in her spot, leaving one seat between her and Chen Yushu.
Qi Yan put down the microphone, glanced curiously at the empty seat in the middle, and plopped down right into it.
Lu Wei slowly turned her head and, using Qi Yan as cover, quickly stole a glance at Chen Yushu.
Strange, she didn’t feel anything at all.
Just then, Qi Yan’s voice came from beside them, “Shushu, can I have a sip of your juice?”
Chen Yushu extended the straw toward her, “Sure, here you go.”
“Wait, there’s another cup here,” Lu Wei grabbed the back of Qi Yan’s collar, perhaps a bit too forcefully, causing Qi Yan to tumble onto the cushion.
“Are you trying to kill me?” Qi Yan exclaimed, straightening her clothes as she sat up and waved a hand dismissively. “You have it. Shushu and I can share one cup.”
Chen Yushu nodded and agreed.
“No need,” Lu Wei muttered, shoving the juice into Qi Yan’s hand. “I’m not thirsty yet, you have it.”
Qi Yan took it, grinning, “Hehe, then I won’t hold back.”
Lu Wei hummed in response, inexplicably feeling a sense of relief.
After gulping down half the juice in a few quick sips, Qi Yan burped and said, “I’m going to the restroom. Wait for me, and we’ll play a game when I get back.”
As soon as she left, the middle seat was empty again. Lu Wei glanced at it, her restlessness growing, and in the next moment, she couldn’t resist sliding over.
Chen Yushu was looking down, replying to a message, when she suddenly felt a warm breath against her cheek. Lifting her head, her forehead brushed against Lu Wei’s chin, startling her.
“What are you doing?”
“Who are you chatting with?”
They spoke at the same time.
Chen Yushu frowned slightly, her tone sharp, “Why are you peeking at my phone?”
Lu Wei was taken aback for a moment, then snorted, crossing her arms as she sat up straight, puffing her cheeks in annoyance. “It wasn’t on purpose. I just happened to see your chat screen.”
From Chen Yushu’s perspective, Lu Wei was enveloped in the dim light, a lock of curly hair covering half of her profile. In her silence, she looked especially pitiful and aggrieved.
Chen Yushu’s heart softened involuntarily, and she held her phone out to Lu Wei. “I’m sending out a homework notice.”
“I don’t want to see it,” Lu Wei turned slightly away, but her head remained still, her eyes shifting sideways to glance at it.
Chen Yushu pursed her lips, leaned in to carefully observe the expression on her face, then raised an eyebrow knowingly and deliberately said, “Alright then, I’ll put it away.”
Hearing this, Lu Wei immediately let out a dissatisfied hum, her lips pouting even higher, her entire body exuding an aura of “Come and coax me, come and coax me!”
Chen Yushu chuckled helplessly and resignedly wrapped her arms around Lu Wei from behind, holding the phone right under her eyes. “Look, it’s just a notification. Who else could I be chatting with besides you?”
“Hmph, who even cares to look.” Lu Wei was secretly delighted by the last remark, struggling to suppress the upward curve of her lips. She quickly glanced down, then lifted her head again, putting on a haughty and indifferent expression. “And you scolded me over this? Hmph, scolded me!”
Just then, a message popped up on the screen.
As Chen Yushu was about to withdraw her hand to check it, Lu Wei swiftly grabbed her wrist. “Who is this?”
“Just a classmate.”
Lu Wei looked skeptical, but then several messages came flooding in one after another, so fast that it was impossible not to see them.
“A classmate?” Lu Wei’s lips drooped, and she shot her a cold glance. “Then why is he asking you to play games? Hah, and even inviting you to hang out?!”
“I” For some reason, Chen Yushu felt inexplicably guilty. “How would I know? I barely even know him.”
“Really? Is he a guy? When did you add him? Have you chatted before? Is he trying to pursue you?”
Faced with Lu Wei’s barrage of questions, Chen Yushu paused for a moment, thoughtfully studying the expression on her face. Sometimes, it really wasn’t her fault for having such a vivid imagination.
