How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 25.4
She covered her face, on the verge of tears. After a moment, she pulled herself together, put on a pitiful expression, and hurried back downstairs to search for Chen Yushu.
Wutong Road.
“Quick, try this! This wine is amazing!”
Chen Yushu took the cup from Jiang Yuran, took a small sip, nodded in approval, then took another. “It’s delicious! So sweet!”
A senior from the club seized the opportunity. “If you’re interested, you can join the Wine Club. Every event lets you sample different kinds of wine.”
The two exchanged a glance and each picked up a registration form.
“Mmm, this dessert is so good!” Jiang Yuran took a small bite, then quickly grabbed another piece and offered it to Chen Yushu.
Chen Yushu carefully took a bite and soon mirrored Jiang Yuran’s delighted expression. “We have to join this club!”
In no time, the two had eaten their fill and were struggling to hold all the registration forms they’d collected.
Jiang Yuran licked her lips and suddenly suggested, “How about we go out for lunch? We can catch a movie in the afternoon, do some shopping in the evening, and then head back.”
“Sounds good, let’s go.”
They were instantly in agreement. Jiang Yuran took out her phone to search for a place to eat but noticed Lu Wei had sent several messages.
[Hey, is Chen Yushu with you?]
[I’ve been trying to call her, but her phone’s off. I had to ask you.]
[I’ve been looking for her everywhere but can’t find her.]
[If you see this, could you ask Chen Yushu to call me back?]
Now you remember her? Jiang Yuran stuck out her tongue and secretly rolled her eyes before continuing her search for a good restaurant.
“This place has a lot of recommendations. Wanna go here?”
“Sure, that works.” Chen Yushu glanced at the screen and looked away.
Just then, another message from Lu Wei came through. Seeing it, Jiang Yuran quickly muted her phone and slipped it into her pocket.
The two headed toward the school gate, while Lu Wei was still wandering around Wutong Road and inadvertently ended up in front of the Youth Association.
Jiang Yunxi called out to her, “What’s the rush? You look frantic.”
“I lost track of Chen Yushu,” Lu Wei walked over, unable to hide her anxiety.
“Just give her a call,” Jiang Yunxi said. “You’re sweating so much it’s about to drip into your eyes. Here’s a tissue, wipe it off.”
Lu Wei grabbed a few tissues, wiped her face haphazardly, and tapped the table restlessly. “I called her, but she never answered.”
Jiang Yunxi: “Is there anyone else with her?”
Lu Wei paused, a hint of jealousy in her voice. “Jiang Yuran is with her.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yunxi lifted her eyelids. “I’ll ask Jiang Yuran for you.”
Lu Wei: “It’s no use. I sent her a bunch of messages, and she hasn’t replied to any of them.”
A few seconds later, Jiang Yunxi held up her phone to show her. “She replied.”
“What? What does she mean? Can’t she see the messages I sent?” Lu Wei widened her eyes in shock and hurriedly leaned in to look. When she saw the content, she nearly fainted from anger. “Going out? To eat? And planning to watch a movie?”
Jiang Yunxi: “Why are you so worked up?”
Lu Wei didn’t know why either perhaps it was the frustration of having a date snatched away from her.
But today was indeed her fault; she had no right to blame anyone.
Regretful and furious, tears welled up in Lu Wei’s eyes. To avoid embarrassing herself in front of others, she tilted her head back and raised her voice to cover it up. “What’s wrong with Jiang Yuran? It’s not like she doesn’t have a partner. Why isn’t she spending time with ”
“What did you say?” This time, it was Jiang Yunxi’s turn to be shocked, but Lu Wei, lost in her grief and anger, didn’t notice.
Lu Wei’s voice trembled slightly. “Yeah, why isn’t she cozying up with her boyfriend? What’s the deal with her sticking to Chen Yushu all the time?”
Jiang Yunxi’s attention was completely captured by the word “boyfriend” from Lu Wei, and she didn’t hear a word that followed.
Impossible! How could it be a boyfriend? She couldn’t have misjudged! Was her gaydar malfunctioning? How could this happen?
Lu Wei composed herself and said, “Senior, could you ask Jiang Yuran to have Chen Yushu call me?”
Jiang Yunxi snapped back to reality and quietly put down her phone. “You tell her yourself.”
Lu Wei thought Jiang Yuran must be checking her phone by now, so she sent another message. However, the message was sent but sank like a stone, with no response.
What the hell? When she replied to Jiang Yunxi, didn’t she see my messages?
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Jiang Yuran and Chen Yushu sat in the backseat, staring puzzled at the phone screen. Why did she stop replying after asking about Chen Yushu? What’s going on!
And just then, Lu Wei’s messages kept pouring in.
The one who should be messaging isn’t, and the one who shouldn’t is spamming like crazy!
Jiang Yuran sulkily stuffed her phone back into her pocket, sighed, and leaned her head on Chen Yushu’s shoulder.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Yushu asked.
“Senior Jiang just asked me if you were with me. I said we were out eating and watching a movie, and then she stopped replying. Waaah, what does she mean?” Jiang Yuran covered her mouth and whimpered softly. “She specifically asked about you does she like you?”
“Impossible! The way we look at each other is completely innocent!” Chen Yushu declared firmly. Then, remembering something, she took out her phone and saw that Lu Wei had indeed sent her several messages and missed calls.
From her angle, Jiang Yuran caught a glimpse of Chen Yushu’s phone and called out worriedly, “Shushu.”
Chen Yushu: “Well, we found the reason. Most likely, Lu Wei ran into Senior Jiang and asked her to check on you.”
“Oh, I see. Actually, Lu Wei sent me a message, but I didn’t tell you because I was afraid it would affect your mood,” Jiang Yuran said cautiously.
“It’s fine. I don’t want to deal with her anyway.”
As they spoke, they reached their destination. The two got out of the car and headed straight to the restaurant. Comforted by the delicious food, they soon forgot about the unpleasantness.
By the time they had eaten their fill and returned to school, it was almost ten o’clock.
Still immersed in the movie’s plot, they chatted and laughed as they walked toward the dormitory building.
Suddenly, Chen Yushu paused in her steps. Curious, Jiang Yuran followed her gaze and saw Lu Wei sitting on the steps in front of the dormitory. The light from above illuminated half of her body.
At that moment, Lu Wei’s loose clothes billowed in the wind, making her appear especially thin and lonely.
As if sensing something, Lu Wei abruptly looked up and met Chen Yushu’s eyes directly.
A trace of a smile still lingered on Chen Yushu’s face. For a moment, her eyes rippled with emotion, but they quickly calmed again.
Lu Wei’s gaze gradually lowered, settling on their intertwined hands, and then froze, unable to look away.
Slowly, her throat tightened as if something were choking her, and a suffocating feeling washed over her. Lu Wei parted her lips slightly, taking small, shallow breaths.
Jiang Yuran’s eyes darted around nervously, one cheek puffed out in distress. Oh my god, this scene feels exactly like getting caught cheating!
A few seconds felt like an eternity. Chen Yushu shifted her stiffened body and said to Jiang Yuran beside her, “Let’s go.”
As the distance between them shortened, their eyes occasionally met. In the silence, turbulent emotions surged, and the air in their chests seemed to drain away, leaving them barely holding on.
When they reached Lu Wei, Chen Yushu stopped. “Why are you here?”
Lu Wei stood up, her face expressionless. Her eyes dropped to the shadows on the ground, and her heart suddenly ached, her eyelashes trembling slightly.
“I’ll head up first,” Jiang Yuran whispered into Chen Yushu’s ear before hurriedly covering her heart and running off.
This is insane! What kind of battlefield is this? It’s terrifying, absolutely terrifying!
The same place, but the roles had shifted.
With no one else around, the tension between the two eased slightly, but an inexplicable intensity grew even stronger.
“Did you go out with her?” The words spilled out, thick with grievance and vulnerability, impossible to conceal.
Chen Yushu looked up at her. “Yes.”
Lu Wei suddenly found herself at a loss for words. Her eyes quickly welled up with tears, and she lowered her head like a drenched puppy.
“You.” Lu Wei’s voice caught, nearly breaking. “Why didn’t you tell me before you left?”
Chen Yushu tried hard not to recall the events of the day and replied calmly, “There were too many people. I didn’t see you, so I left first.”
“You’re lying!” Lu Wei’s head snapped up. Her dark eyes, shimmering like pools of clear water, brimmed with tears. Struggling to keep her lips from trembling, she tried to speak calmly but couldn’t stop the words from tumbling out faster and faster. “You didn’t even look for me. You didn’t reply to any of my messages or answer any of my calls. Are you angry?”
Chen Yushu’s eyebrows lifted slightly. “No.”
“I was wrong, I know I was wrong.” Having witnessed her stubbornness before, Lu Wei didn’t dwell on whether she was angry but instead directly apologized and explained, “As soon as I woke up this morning, I wanted to go downstairs to find you. The other two saw me and said they wanted to come along. I thought they were just following me downstairs I didn’t expect It’s all my fault.”
Chen Yushu glanced at her sideways, curling her lips disdainfully, unable to resist thinking to herself, I don’t believe a word of your nonsense.
“I’m sorry, Shushu.” Lu Wei took her hand, stepped down one stair, and gently wrapped her arm around her waist. “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have left you out.”
Chen Yushu immediately pulled her hand back, hiding it behind her back, and took a large step backward.
“Shushu~” Lu Wei called out in a soft, pleading voice, reaching out again to tug at the corner of her clothes.
Chen Yushu frowned and slapped her hand away. “Don’t touch me!”
“Shushu, I really am sorry. Please forgive me just this once.”
Chen Yushu pouted impatiently, “I told you, I’m not angry.”
“Alright, alright, you’re not angry. I’ll confess and surrender, okay?” Lu Wei leaned closer, her eyes sparkling with laughter, then turned around and raised her hand as if taking an oath. “I, Lu Wei, hereby swear that wherever Chen Yushu is, my gaze will forever follow Chen Yushu, my heart will forever hold Chen Yushu dear, and in my eyes and heart, there will only ever be Chen Yushu alone!”
Chen Yushu felt her heart uncontrollably soften, melting into a puddle. She pressed her lips tightly together, struggling to suppress the corners of her mouth that kept wanting to curl upward.
“If I fail to keep this promise, I, Lu Wei, will ”
“Forget it, who wants to hear you swear!” Chen Yushu interrupted her hastily, stepping forward as she muttered, “I’m going back. You should hurry up too.”
The next second, Lu Wei suddenly wrapped her arms around her from behind, gradually tightening her embrace as if trying to press her into her very bones.
Chen Yushu stiffened, then slowly turned her head to meet Lu Wei’s gaze from just inches away. The wind slipped between their lips, carrying away their warm breaths, but it couldn’t conceal the sound of their heartbeats, pounding fiercely against their chests.
“Chen Yushu, I really like you.”
“I really, really like you.”
“Let’s be together and never part, okay?”
