How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 88
Cheng Wan’s cheeks turned slightly red. Worried someone might see, she quickly pulled Bai Juntang’s hand away from her waist.
Bai Juntang looked at her flushed face and felt a soft stir in her heart.
It had been almost a month since the last time they had been physically close, from Cheng Wan’s last heat period to giving birth to Sui Sui. There hadn’t been a proper chance for intimacy since then.
Aunt Pei brought out a bowl of zhajiang noodles and asked, “I made a portion for you too. Want to eat some?”
Hearing that, Cheng Wan instinctively stepped away from Bai Juntang to keep a bit of distance, then sat back down on the sofa.
Bai Juntang glanced at her with a deep look. From her angle, she could only see the tips of Cheng Wan’s bright red ears, which looked especially cute.
“Make me a bowl,” Bai Juntang said, standing beside her. “I’m hungry too.”
Cheng Wan couldn’t help rubbing her ears, feeling like they were burning even more.
While Bai Juntang ate her noodles, Cheng Wan had nothing in particular to do. Bai Weilan was upstairs with Sui Sui, and Cheng Wan didn’t want to be in the same room as her. But sitting alone in the living room was also dull.
Just then, Aunt Pei took a bag of cat food from the storage cabinet. It looked like she was about to feed the cat in the basement.
“Aunt Pei, let me do it,” Cheng Wan said, happy to have something to occupy her. She walked over and took the half-full bag of cat food. “I haven’t seen Guazi in ages. Why hasn’t she come out at all?”
“There are so many unfamiliar people in the house. How could she dare come out?” Aunt Pei smiled and walked with Cheng Wan to the basement.
Although it was called a basement, it was really more like a lower ground floor since it connected directly to the garage. It wasn’t dark or damp.
There was a half-sized window down there, so it wasn’t completely dark during the day, but the lights still needed to be turned on.
Once the lights were on, Cheng Wan saw a small orange ball curled up on the cat tower. The fluffy little thing turned its head slowly when it sensed someone entering.
The basement mainly held gym equipment, including a treadmill, stationary bike, and back-pulling machine.
Most of the equipment was for Bai Juntang. Cheng Wan didn’t usually exercise much. Other than occasionally using the treadmill or exercise bike, she wasn’t familiar with the rest. She preferred going for a walk after meals or in the evening.
She and Aunt Pei filled Guazi’s bowls with food and water. Cheng Wan then sat on a nearby chair and gently squished the chubby cat’s face.
It had been several days since she’d seen her, and Cheng Wan had the odd feeling Guazi looked even rounder than before.
Aunt Pei chuckled. “She eats so much and barely moves. Of course she’s gaining weight.”
Cheng Wan paused for a moment, holding the chubby cat in her arms. She glanced down at her own belly, then locked eyes with Guazi.
Oh no. She realized she had also been eating too much and barely moving lately. If this continued, she might end up looking like a ball too.
Hugging the fluffy cat and breathing in her soft scent, Cheng Wan muttered, “I need to go on a diet.”
She wasn’t sure if she was talking to the cat or to herself.
After feeding Guazi, Cheng Wan and Aunt Pei headed back upstairs. It was already after nine o’clock. Bai Weilan, having spent enough time playing with Sui Sui, had come down for dinner. When she saw them return from the basement, she smiled and asked, “Feeding the cat?”
Cheng Wan felt it would be rude not to answer, so she nodded. “Just finished.”
Bai Weilan didn’t say anything more. She simply turned to Aunt Pei and asked, “Where’s my zhajiang noodles?”
“They’re ready. I was just waiting for you to come down,” Aunt Pei replied. She walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. “Do you want them hot or cold?”
“Either is fine.”
“Let’s go with hot, then.”
“But hot noodles are too hot.”
“Well, then you should have just said cold in the first place.”
Bai Weilan sighed. “You were the one who asked me first.”
Aunt Pei sighed too, resigned to her task, and started heating the noodles. Cheng Wan stood nearby, not seeing anyone else around, and wondered if everyone had already gone to rest.
“Juntang is in the study making a call, and the maternity nurse is upstairs putting Sui Sui to sleep,” Bai Weilan said, resting her chin on her hand. She looked at Cheng Wan and added, “Aren’t you going to check on them?”
Cheng Wan turned to look at her. They met eyes for a brief moment. Then she opened her mouth and softly said, “Thank you.”
After thanking her, Cheng Wan went upstairs. Bai Weilan rested her cheek on her hand and watched her enter Sui Sui’s room. Then she turned back just as Aunt Pei brought over the noodles.
“That girl,” Bai Weilan said, half to herself, “is quite a bit like Juntang’s mother.”
Although the comment was vague, Aunt Pei understood. She smiled and replied, “Yes, she is, but also not quite.”
Bai Weilan didn’t respond. She just took a bite of the zhajiang noodles and remarked, “Your zhajiang noodles are still the best. I couldn’t find anything like this while I was abroad.”
Aunt Pei gently tried to persuade her. “That’s why staying home is better. Are you planning to leave again soon?”
“I’m not sure yet,” Bai Weilan said, thinking for a moment. Then she added, “Peel some garlic for me. Noodles without garlic just don’t taste right.”
Aunt Pei sighed and got up. “Alright, I’ll peel some for you.”
Cheng Wan sat in Sui Sui’s room for almost an hour. When the baby started yawning one after another, the maternity nurse gently said it was time for her to sleep.
Although Cheng Wan really wanted to stay and sleep beside her, the nurse didn’t agree.
“You’ve just left the hospital,” she said softly. “The baby might wake up two or three times during the night. That’s hard even for someone healthy, and you need rest more than anyone. Once she’s a month old, her sleep will be more regular, and you can start sleeping with her then.”
Cheng Wan looked at Sui Sui’s chubby little face and felt her heart melt. If she hadn’t still been feeling sore, she truly would’ve loved to help care for her through the night.
“Alright then,” Cheng Wan said, holding the baby’s tiny hand gently. “I’ll go rest too.”
As she left the nursery, she bumped into Bai Juntang coming up the stairs.
“You’re already coming out?” Bai Juntang asked, walking closer. “Not staying with Sui Sui?”
“She’s going to sleep. It’s already past ten,” Cheng Wan replied. “I’m feeling sleepy too.”
With two maternity nurses in the house, Cheng Wan spent her days mostly resting, eating, and breastfeeding. She went to bed early and slept in until nine or ten. No one criticized her for it. To be honest, she felt like a very content dairy cow.
When Bai Juntang saw her yawn, she suddenly bent down and picked her up.
Cheng Wan was startled. She swallowed her yawn and instinctively held onto Bai Juntang’s shoulder. “What are you doing?”
Without answering, Bai Juntang carried her straight into the bedroom and gently placed her on the bed.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been close,” Bai Juntang said, leaning down until their foreheads touched. “Can I kiss you?”
Cheng Wan held onto her shoulders, blushing. “I… I’m still recovering.”
“I know,” Bai Juntang whispered. She wrapped her arms around Cheng Wan’s waist, breathing in the soft, sweet scent of her pheromones. “Just one kiss.”
Cheng Wan looked into her eyes. Under the warm light of the bedroom, Bai Juntang’s gaze was deep and shining.
“Just one kiss,” Cheng Wan finally gave in. Before she could finish, Bai Juntang leaned down and kissed her.
Her lips were warm and soft, carrying a familiar comfort. As soon as they touched, Cheng Wan felt her whole body relax.
Over the past month, both of them had been so busy. They barely had time for even a quick kiss. Nothing like this.
Cheng Wan closed her eyes and gently parted her lips, allowing Bai Juntang’s tongue to explore. Her arms naturally wrapped around her neck, responding with her own kiss.
Bai Juntang’s kiss was both tender and passionate. Her tongue moved skillfully, stirring Cheng Wan’s breath and pulling her deeper into the moment.
Cheng Wan tilted her head back, her slender neck arching into a graceful curve. In the soft light, her fair skin looked even more delicate and beautiful.
Their breathing became heavier. Even though it was just a kiss, Cheng Wan felt like she could melt right there in her arms. She stroked Bai Juntang’s hair gently, their strands tangling together on the pillow.
Their pheromones mixed and calmed each other. The kiss didn’t feel overwhelming—it felt warm, safe, and loving.
By the time Bai Juntang finally let go, Cheng Wan’s lips were a little numb.
She lay there, breathing hard. Her chest rose and fell under Bai Juntang’s gaze, making her heart race even more.
Bai Juntang stared at her in a daze. But she didn’t forget that Cheng Wan was still recovering. She took a deep breath and turned onto her side, pulling Cheng Wan into her arms as they both lay down.
Cheng Wan rested in her arms, catching her breath. Her eyes met Bai Juntang’s. After a moment, she whispered, “If you’re really uncomfortable… you can bite me.”
Bai Juntang laughed softly. She looked at her for a few seconds, then leaned in and gently bit her lip. “There. I bit you.”
Cheng Wan blushed even more. “That’s not what I meant…”
“I know. I didn’t mean it that way either,” Bai Juntang replied, holding her close. She reached out to rub Cheng Wan’s lower back, knowing she’d been sore lately. The maternity nurse said it was normal and would get better with time.
Even though nearly two weeks had passed since Cheng Wan’s fall on the escalator, Bai Juntang still felt shaken by the memory.
As an alpha, she had never felt such deep fear before. She could still see Cheng Wan, covered in blood, trembling in pain, lying in her arms. Every time she thought about it, her hands would shake, and her breath would catch in her throat.
If she could help it, Bai Juntang didn’t want Cheng Wan to go through pregnancy again. Having one Sui Sui was more than enough.
Cheng Wan felt warm and comfortable in her arms. She was already sleepy and curled up against Bai Juntang’s shoulder, ready to fall asleep.
Bai Juntang held her gently and said, “Sui Sui is so cute. One day, a bunch of alphas will fall for her. We’ll let her pick whoever she likes. They don’t have to be rich—after all, it’s hard to find anyone richer than our family anyway.”
Cheng Wan was too tired to respond properly. She made a small sound to show she was listening.
Bai Juntang smiled to herself. When the time came, she would make sure to carefully check out every alpha that dared approach their daughter. Not just anyone would be good enough for a Bai family Omega.
She was about to say more when she noticed Cheng Wan had already fallen asleep. Her breathing was soft and even, brushing against her chest. Bai Juntang couldn’t help but feel both helpless and full of love.
“So sleepy already?” she whispered with a smile. She reached out and gently pinched Cheng Wan’s cheek, then kissed her on the forehead. “Sleep well. Good night.”
