- Chapter 33.1 - Lou Qingshuang Leaves in Disappointment
Lou Qingshuang closed the door and stood at the entrance, just as Auntie Wu, who had gotten up in the night for a drink of water, came face-to-face with her.
Auntie Wu held her water, looking at Lou Qingshuang silently. She cast a sidelong glance, took another silent sip of water, and turned toward Shen Qiao’s room. During this time, Shen Qiao needed someone to keep watch, so Auntie Wu had been staying with her.
Lou Qingshuang reached out toward Auntie Wu’s retreating back. “Hey, Auntie Wu, it’s not what you think.”
Auntie Wu winked at her and closed the door behind her. Lou Qingshuang leaned her head against her hand and sighed; Auntie Wu had already misunderstood, and now it was even harder to explain.
Lou Qingshuang recalled the night before her mother’s surgery. Her mother had specifically told her, “If you really like the neighbor next door, there’s no harm in trying. Dating her to distract yourself is fine; life can have many relationships.” Shen Qiao was afraid she wouldn’t make it off the operating table, so she had specially left these instructions for her daughter.
“Mom, I don’t want to think about relationships right now,” Lou Qingshuang had said with a helpless smile.
Shen Qiao teased her with a playful look. “When you came back covered in pheromones before, you didn’t seem so helpless.”
“So you all knew?” Lou Qingshuang felt a bit embarrassed.
“Is that girl pretty?” Shen Qiao asked out of the blue.
Lou Qingshuang instinctively lowered her head to meet her mother’s eyes. Shen Qiao winked mischievously, her eyes full of laughter. “It seems she’s very beautiful.”
“Invite her over for dinner sometime. I think she’s quite pretty too—just like your mother.” Shen Qiao looked at her daughter very tenderly, reaching out to smooth a stray hair behind her ear. In the blink of an eye, Shuangshuang had grown up so much.
“Liu Yu is indeed very beautiful, but her personality is… hard to describe,” Lou Qingshuang complained.
Shen Qiao smiled but said nothing. Did she not know that what these children said and did were often completely different? If there were truly no feelings at all, the other person wouldn’t have stepped in to save her.
“That girl looks quite good. If you like her, hold on tight. After all, the pheromones on you that day were quite intoxicating,” Shen Qiao said intentionally.
Hearing her mother mention that day, Lou Qingshuang’s ears turned red instantly. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she instinctively looked away, not daring to meet Shen Qiao’s gaze.
“Mom, that day was an accident,” Lou Qingshuang said in a voice as quiet as a mosquito.
Shen Qiao gave a relaxed laugh. She was someone who had been through it all; how could she not know the “process” of young people?
Emerging from the memory, Lou Qingshuang’s face was burning red. She felt that Auntie Wu was going to “gossip” about her to her mother again. It was all Liu Yu’s fault!
Lou Qingshuang tossed her long hair back and returned to her bedroom with a flushed face. She actually found it a bit difficult to sleep.
A message from Zhu Yan appeared on her phone screen: Please don’t tell the Chairman that I was the one who leaked the news. In reality, Zhu Yan had only sent the message after getting Liu Yu’s approval, adding a brick to the foundation of Liu Yu’s romantic pursuits.
Thank you, I won’t. Lou Qingshuang replied.
Lou Qingshuang pulled back the new duvet and lay down, but as soon as she did, she couldn’t sleep. Her anxiety surged once more. She closed her eyes and counted sheep.
After counting for a long time, the image of Liu Yu from just a moment ago kept spinning in her mind: wearing a slim-fitting black coat, long legs, her slightly curly hair obscuring that cool, detached face.
“Liu Yu,” Lou Qingshuang whispered her name while staring at the ceiling.
Lou Qingshuang clearly sensed that Liu Yu was starting to avoid facing her directly, even showing signs of withdrawal. Thinking of this, Lou Qingshuang sat up abruptly, unable to sleep. To her, Liu Yu now felt like a shroud of mist—completely impossible to see through.
She threw off the covers and got out of bed. She was going to ask Liu Yu clearly what she was thinking—whether she wanted to keep her as a mistress or pursue her. If it was to be kept, Lou Qingshuang closed her eyes and took a deep breath, clutching the quilt. That would be okay too; after all, it was for the sake of repaying the debt.
Given Liu Yu’s character, she would certainly treat this as a transaction. If possible, Lou Qingshuang wanted to take the initiative herself so she wouldn’t be so passive. A calculating light flashed in her eyes; being with Liu Yu was fine, but she could not be a canary in a cage.
Liu Yu, who had just finished bathing and changed into clean pajamas, was about to drag her exhausted body to bed when she heard the door ring again.
Liu Yu pinched the bridge of her nose, a surge of helpless amusement rising within her. She couldn’t help but smile—was Lou Qingshuang not afraid of her at all now?
Before, she had been as terrified as a rabbit facing a tiger, but now she was approaching her time and again. Even Liu Yu was beginning to find the other woman difficult to read.
Liu Yu opened the door and raised an eyebrow at the person standing there. “Not asleep yet?” This time, it was Lou Qingshuang who spoke first.
Before Liu Yu could respond, Lou Qingshuang added, “I can’t sleep. I want to talk to you about the thing between us.”
Liu Yu fixed her gaze on her, her presence immensely pressuring. Lou Qingshuang gripped the doorframe, trying her best to remain calm as she looked back.
Seeing the persistence in Lou Qingshuang’s eyes, Liu Yu stepped aside to let her in.
Lou Qingshuang breathed a sigh of relief in her heart. She looked at Liu Yu’s back, gritted her teeth, and followed.
Liu Yu sat on the sofa, watching Lou Qingshuang enter. “What do you want to talk about?”
“Our relationship,” Lou Qingshuang said, sitting on a nearby apricot-white sofa and looking at Liu Yu.
Liu Yu looked into her eyes without saying a word, waiting for her to continue.
Lou Qingshuang looked at those eyes; that “everything is under my control” look was truly annoying. Her fingertips pressed hard into her palms to suppress her nervousness. “Hasn’t this whole thing been under your control from start to finish?” she said softly.
“Then is it okay for me to do whatever I wish?” Liu Yu stood up, her silk robe falling straight with an excellent drape.
Lou Qingshuang backed up slightly as she watched the towering Liu Yu walk over. She took a deep breath. “Liu Yu, let’s talk. Talk about your perspective. You saved my mother twice; as long as it’s something I can do, I will do it.”
“I admit I have some feelings for you. Liu Yu, are you the kind of person who wants to play with people, or are you someone seeking a real connection?” Lou Qingshuang took a deep breath and stood up to face Liu Yu.
Liu Yu looked down and saw the stubbornness and defiance on Lou Qingshuang’s face. She deliberately leaned down close to her ear and whispered, “I only want to sleep with you. Is that okay?”
Lou Qingshuang’s pupils dilated for a moment, her heart skipping a beat. Liu Yu’s blunt words shattered the defensive line she had initially built.
“Can’t there be any other thoughts?” Lou Qingshuang asked in a hoarse voice, looking at Liu Yu’s refined face.
“For someone like me, talking about feelings is too much of a luxury, Lou Qingshuang.” Liu Yu reached out and toyed with a lock of her hair. There wasn’t much emotion in her eyes; what remained was only a heart of stone.
Lou Qingshuang’s face went numb. “I have a phobia of intimacy. Liu Yu, I can’t just go to bed with you. We can try to build an emotional connection; at least let me lie in your bed willingly.”
The previous warmth finally turned into shattered shadows, like popping bubbles.
Liu Yu looked at the brokenness in Lou Qingshuang’s eyes as the girl stubbornly guarded her dignity.
Liu Yu sighed. She wasn’t exactly someone who enjoyed playing with people. If she didn’t have feelings for Lou Qingshuang, she wouldn’t have needed to take such a winding path to get close to her; she could have simply used means to control her.
If she only spoke the word, the Bai family would naturally control Bai Wan. What could Lou Qingshuang even do then?
“Lou Qingshuang, I’m not a youngster looking to fall in love. What I need is direct physical contact. If you really want to get close to me, you have to be prepared.” Liu Yu leaned down, closing in on Lou Qingshuang’s eyes to make her see her clearly.
“I won’t let you off as easily as I did that night when you were soothing me.” Liu Yu raised her hand and curled her finger, lightly sliding it across Lou Qingshuang’s cheek.
The initiative Lou Qingshuang wanted never appeared; she was completely dominated by Liu Yu.
Lou Qingshuang looked at her reflection in Liu Yu’s pupils—a weak, helpless version of herself, a self that could be overturned by the slightest wave.
“Lou Qingshuang, recognizing who I am requires paying a heavy price.” Liu Yu took a step back, looking at this young Omega who still possessed the most sincere emotions.
