- Chapter 32.2 - Chairman Liu, I Don’t Understand You
Moreover, the artificial heart Liu Yu arranged for her mother was worth nearly three million. It was the best and most mature artificial biological heart available at this stage, with the lowest rejection rate.
“Worst case scenario, I’ll sell myself to pay the debt,” Lou Qingshuang murmured.
“Sell what?” Shen Qiao asked casually, having overheard.
“Nothing. I said I haven’t eaten sashimi in a long time. I’ll go eat some with Wanwan later.” Lou Qingshuang suppressed her thoughts.
“That works. Eat it if you want, but don’t eat too much cold food; it’s bad for the stomach,” Shen’s mother urged.
Just then, the phone rang. Lou Qingshuang nervously picked it up, only to see it was Liu Yu. She let out a helpless sigh and answered.
“Chairman Liu.”
“You sound disappointed. Are you disappointed it’s not Bai Wan calling?” Liu Yu asked.
Hearing her words, Lou Qingshuang knew Liu Yu was following the matter. A faint sweetness rose in her heart, and her tone softened.
“The hearing will take at least two hours. Don’t worry; the result won’t be bad.” Liu Yu’s voice strangely calmed Lou Qingshuang’s mind.
“Thank you… for calling specifically,” Lou Qingshuang said intentionally, her tone a bit like a kitten’s paw tentatively scratching.
A soft chuckle came from Liu Yu’s throat. “You’re welcome. Carry on with your work.” She caught Lou Qingshuang’s tentative “paw” but didn’t give a direct response.
“Okay.” The two hung up, and both simultaneously pressed their phones against their chins, thinking about the other’s meaning.
By 11:30 AM, the trial ended.
“Shuangshuang, we won! The verdict was announced in court!” Bai Wan said joyfully. “I’m coming to see you right now!”
Lou Qingshuang stood up excitedly. “Great, great! We won!”
Hearing that they won, Shen Qiao also breathed a sigh of relief. After pretending to be indifferent all morning, she could finally relax.
Bai Wan rushed over. As soon as she entered, she grabbed Lou Qingshuang’s hands and laughed happily, her feet performing a little dance of joy.
“We won, we really won!” Bai Wan shook Lou Qingshuang’s hands and hugged her best friend. They had finally made it through this ordeal!
“As expected, without that ill-fated connection with Shen Yue, everything has improved!” Bai Wan no longer said Liu Yu was an ill-fated connection; clearly, Shen Yue was the jinx! Every mess was Shen Yue’s doing. If Shen Yue hadn’t turned “tainted witness,” she would have definitely filed a lawsuit against her. She better not cause any more trouble.
Thinking back to when she called Liu Yu that… she had been talking nonsense. Liu Yu was clearly their savior and benefactor!
The two were overjoyed. “I’ve already sent out the announcement I edited! This time, we’re going to fly on this wind! Shuangshuang, we’re going to be rich!” Bai Wan said cheerfully. She could already sense her career taking off.
Lou Qingshuang turned to look at her mother. The two smiled at each other; there were no more worries for the future.
“My N70 is almost developed. We can launch new products with Xin Yu very soon,” Lou Qingshuang whispered. Not many people knew about the progress of the N70 research.
“Mhm, I’ll go back to the company and keep a close eye on the experimental progress.” Bai Wan knew what was most important. After a brief celebration, she rushed back to the company to celebrate with the employees.
As Lou Qingshuang saw Bai Wan off, she received another message from Liu Yu: Congratulations.
Thank you. Thank you for everything you’ve done. Lou Qingshuang flashed a bright, stunning smile that dazzled passersby.
Mhm. Liu Yu replied with just one word again.
Lou Qingshuang smiled relaxed, put away her phone, and prepared to return to the ward.
There were three days left until next week. Lou Qingshuang looked at the sun appearing in the sky outside the window; everything would surely go smoothly.
Liu Yu looked at Lou Qingshuang’s message, a faint smile curling at the corner of her mouth. She set her phone aside and prepared to rest.
Just then, Zhu Yan walked in with a tablet to report on an added temporary itinerary. “Chairman Liu, there’s a dinner tonight with President Qian from the bank.”
“Fine. It’s rare to get an appointment with President Qian.” Liu Yu nodded and accepted the invitation.
“By the way, Lou Qingshuang’s mother is having surgery next week. Remember to inform me about the surgery’s outcome,” Liu Yu instructed. She was about to go abroad on a business trip and would be away for half a month.
“Yes, Chairman.” Zhu Yan noted the information.
Liu Yu stood by the floor-to-ceiling window drinking tea, thinking of Lou Qingshuang’s relaxed demeanor toward her over the past few days. The occasional messages were quite lively; it seemed she had completely changed her mindset.
This wasn’t necessarily good.
Liu Yu put down her teacup and went back to work.
It wasn’t until after Lou Qingshuang’s mother had completed her surgery that Liu Yu returned from abroad, travel-worn. She had successfully negotiated two deals with major international corporations, further expanding her commercial reach and influence.
It was 1:00 AM when she returned. Just as she was about to head into her home, she heard the door opposite hers open. Lou Qingshuang poked her head out.
The two looked at each other as if they hadn’t seen one another in a long time.
Liu Yu let her bodyguards check the house first. With her hands in the pockets of her black coat, she walked step by step toward Lou Qingshuang. Her gait was like herself: calm, beautiful, and full of presence. With her hair swaying slightly and her eyes deep and attractive, she asked in a low voice, “Not asleep yet?”
“I can’t sleep. I’ve had insomnia for many days.” Lou Qingshuang, wearing an embroidered floral robe, stood at the door looking at Liu Yu.
“Auntie’s surgery was very successful,” Liu Yu said as she approached.
“She was discharged yesterday. Now she just needs to rest at home and go for a check-up every week.” Lou Qingshuang leaned against the doorframe to talk to Liu Yu.
“That’s good.” Liu Yu nodded. It seemed that after not seeing each other for a while, they didn’t quite know what to say.
“Liu Yu, you’re helping me so much now… do you really not want anything in return?” Lou Qingshuang took a step forward, drawing close to Liu Yu. As she neared, she smelled a strong scent of roses. She reached out to touch a strand of Liu Yu’s hair, slowly lifting her gaze to look at her.
Liu Yu’s eyes remained cool as she looked back. “Then do you want to come and rest across the hall with me?”
Lou Qingshuang stared into her eyes. “Liu Yu, I don’t understand you.”
“You don’t need to understand me,” Liu Yu replied.
“I will understand you one day.” Lou Qingshuang took a step back and lightly tugged the lapel of Liu Yu’s coat.
“Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
