- Chapter 17 - Living Right Across from Her
Liu Yu bent down and scooped Lou Qingshuang up into her arms. Suddenly hoisted into the air, Lou Qingshuang let out a startled cry, “Put me down!”
“If you don’t want people staring, it’s best not to struggle—unless you want to be on the front page tomorrow,” Liu Yu said, looking down at her. Terrified, Lou Qingshuang immediately went still, pulling Liu Yu’s overcoat over her head to hide her face.
“Heh.” Watching Lou Qingshuang’s “ostrich with its head in the sand” behavior, Liu Yu couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle. The vibration of her chest traveled straight to Lou Qingshuang’s ears. The moment Lou Qingshuang had pulled the coat over herself; she regretted it; it was filled entirely with the scent of roses and burning wood.
As the two stepped out of the bar’s main entrance, bodyguards immediately approached with umbrellas to escort them to the car.
Lying in Liu Yu’s arms, Lou Qingshuang listened to the pitter-patter of the heavy rain. The damp mist brushed against her skin, leaving her feeling wet and cold.
When Liu Yu’s car arrived, she carefully placed Lou Qingshuang in the back seat. She pulled her coat back, gave Lou Qingshuang a small smile, closed the door, and then got in from the other side.
The owner of Ultra X Bar, witnessing this cautious and tender behavior, could only think one thing: the cold, unfeeling “Big Boss Liu” had actually fallen in love.
The workaholic demon was finally in a relationship.
After watching them leave, she whispered the secret to herself in her heart, not daring to gossip with others. Since Boss Liu hadn’t gone public, she knew better than to spread rumors.
Liu Yu settled into the car, and the black Bentley glided like a fish into the dark, rainy night.
Sitting in the car, a tipsy Lou Qingshuang murmured, “Take me home.” She tried her best to stay conscious, not wanting Liu Yu to notice anything off.
“Alright.” Liu Yu watched her forced attempt at sobriety, a smile lingering at the corners of her mouth.
The two sat in the car in silence. Lou Qingshuang kept her eyes wide, nervously watching the direction the car was heading, while Liu Yu sat in her seat, releasing a tiny hint of her rose scent to soothe the grieving, Lou Qingshuang.
Her pheromones bloomed quietly like a rose, carrying the chill of the tundra mixed with a profound tenderness.
Pheromones could be used to soothe a person’s emotions, but generally, no one used them this way; everyone regarded pheromones as an intensely private matter, shared only with a lover.
Lou Qingshuang caught the scent. The brow she had furrowed from the discomfort of the alcohol slowly relaxed. The crisp, clean scent made her feel much better. She praised, “This perfume smells very nice.”
Upon hearing this, Liu Yu’s ears turned red. She finally understood the shyness that comes from being unintentionally flirted with. She closed her eyes and remained silent.
Lou Qingshuang turned her head to look at Liu Yu, who was resting with her eyes closed. Surprisingly, Liu Yu hadn’t kicked her while she was down or taken advantage of her vulnerability tonight. Liu Yu’s profile was very sharp—a high bridge of the nose, and long eyelashes that seemed to cast shadows. This person was quite unique.
The black Bentley drove all the way into the underground garage of Lou Qingshuang’s apartment complex. The security guard let them through.
A bodyguard stepped out to open the door. Liu Yu and Lou Qingshuang got out together. Watching Liu Yu’s long legs step out, Lou Qingshuang’s heart skipped a beat. Surely Liu Yu wasn’t planning on following her home? She quickly said, “I can get home on my own.”
Liu Yu arched an eyebrow and looked at the nervous Lou Qingshuang with a beaming smile. “I’m going home too.”
“Huh?” Lou Qingshuang looked at her in surprise. Liu Yu didn’t say another word, simply tilted her chin toward the elevator and took the lead.
Lou Qingshuang followed Liu Yu into the same elevator and rode it to the same floor.
There was nothing Lou Qingshuang didn’t understand now—Liu Yu had bought the apartment directly across from hers.
Standing at the door opposite Lou Qingshuang’s, Liu Yu waved at her, smiling with unbridled joy. “We have a long time ahead of us.”
Lou Qingshuang watched as Liu Yu’s bodyguards went inside to check the security of the unit. She placed her own finger on the fingerprint lock and opened her front door with a sigh of helplessness.
“Then you should get some rest.” Lou Qingshuang rubbed her light-headed, heavy-footed brow and stepped inside. Her ability to think clearly had plummeted.
Liu Yu stood tall at her doorway, her long legs looking elegant and slender, as she watched Lou Qingshuang close the door.
“Director Liu, the inspection is complete,” Zhu Yan said, walking over to her.
“Thank you for your hard work. Go back and get some rest,” Liu Yu told Zhu Yan.
“Understood. Goodbye, Director Liu.” Zhu Yan nodded, bid her farewell, and then instructed the bodyguards to protect Liu Yu well.
Liu Yu walked into the apartment and looked around. The layout was quite good, and the decor was in a style she liked.
She had started the process of buying and renovating this place the moment she found out Lou Qingshuang lived here.
Thinking of the shock on Lou Qingshuang’s face, a look of delight spread across Liu Yu’s features. Moreover, Lou Qingshuang didn’t seem to reject her pheromones. At that thought, Liu Yu’s smile deepened. “Does it smell good?”
Back home, Lou Qingshuang immediately saw her mother waiting for her on the sofa.
“Mom, why didn’t you go to your room to sleep?” Lou Qingshuang hurried over, squatted down, and took Shen Qiao’s hand to gently wake her.
“Wanshuang?” Shen Qiao opened her eyes to look at her daughter. Seeing her flushed face and smelling the alcohol, she looked at her with heartache, reaching out to touch her face. “Socializing for work again?”
Lou Qingshuang nodded and leaned into her mother’s embrace. “Mom, it’s so late. Why aren’t you in bed?”
“I was worried about you. Did you and Yueyue break up? Did she do something to hurt you?” Shen Qiao cupped Lou Qingshuang’s face, asking cautiously and with deep concern.
Looking into her mother’s eyes, Lou Qingshuang’s tears began to fall uncontrollably. She whispered, “She betrayed me.”
Shen Qiao’s breath hitched, and her own eyes grew moist. She hadn’t expected it to be like this. “I won’t let her step through this door ever again.” Shen Qiao held her daughter’s face and cried along with her. She had known Shen Yue wasn’t reliable; if she had known sooner, she would have disagreed with the relationship from the start.
“It’s okay. The locks have been changed. She can’t get in anymore,” Lou Qingshuang said, resting her head on Shen Qiao’s lap.
Meanwhile, Shen Yue, who had not yet returned to Beijing, stood face-to-face with Zhu Rui.
“You failed. What did you come back for?” Zhu Rui picked up an ashtray and hurled it at Shen Yue. “If you can’t even control a single Omega, what use are you?”
Shen Yue squinted at the furious woman before her; she had grown old.
Wearing her glasses, Shen Yue’s gaze was sharp. Zhu Rui’s lack of an heir had always been a thorn in her side.
Shen Yue was one of the chosen successors. Out of all her children, only two had become successful, and Shen Yue was the most outstanding—and the most like her—because she was ruthless enough.
Zhu Rui watched Shen Yue leave without a hint of lingering affection. She glared darkly at her daughter’s retreating back. “I don’t necessarily have to use you,” Zhu Rui muttered in a low voice.
Shen Yue left decisively. As long as Lan Dai didn’t do as Lou Qingshuang demanded, she would definitely follow through on her word.
If the video was made public and submitted as evidence, Lan Dai’s recently recovered reputation would be instantly shattered.
If she couldn’t have Lan Dai, destroying it wasn’t a bad alternative.
Shen Yue stood at the entrance of Lou Qingshuang’s residential complex. This time, she couldn’t get in. She stood in the heavy rain for a long time, silently staring toward the direction of Lou Qingshuang’s home.
“I’m sorry, Wanshuang.” Shen Yue’s apology was drowned out and shattered by the downpour.
Shen Yue took out her phone and looked at the last message Lou Qingshuang had sent: Shen Yue, we are finished. Either do as I say, or wait for my lawsuit.
Looking at Lou Qingshuang’s harsh words, the corners of Shen Yue’s mouth pulled downward. Finally, she got into her car and drove away.
Lou Qingshuang leaned back on the tatami mat by the window. Her black silk robe slipped from her legs, revealing her fair, slender skin. Her curls fell loosely against her ears and chest. Gazing at the hazy streetlights and the torrential rain outside, she languidly raised her glass to drink, the sleeve of her robe sliding down to reveal a thin, delicate wrist.
Lou Qingshuang was thinking about what to do next. Even though she was certain about suing Shen Yue, her heart still ached slightly.
For some reason, she remembered how she had repeatedly told Liu Yu that she had a fiancée and would even send her an invitation when they got married. No wonder Liu Yu’s gaze had been so meaningful at the time. Lou Qingshuang finished her drink in one gulp, wishing she could pretend she had never said those things.
Liu Yu must have known all along; otherwise, she wouldn’t have looked at her that way. No wonder she had suggested using the New Rain project as bait.
Living right across from Lou Qingshuang, Liu Yu was also sitting by her window drinking. Having moved into a new place, she couldn’t sleep.
She, too, wore a robe, her long hair draped over her shoulders. Her entire aura was much softer than usual, but also much lonelier.
The next morning, just as Lou Qingshuang was preparing to leave, Liu Yu stepped out at the same time. The two stood facing each other. Lou Qingshuang felt a bit awkward. “Good morning.”
“Morning. Let’s go, I’ll take you to work.” Liu Yu walked out, and a bodyguard closed the door behind her.
Hadn’t Liu Yu moved here specifically so she could spend time with Lou Qingshuang? Taking her to work in the morning and greeting her when they got home at night counted as being together day and night, didn’t it?
“No need, I’ll just call a taxi.” Lou Qingshuang quickly declined.
They stood together waiting for the elevator. Liu Yu had a smile on her face; anyone could see she was in a very good mood.
The elevator arrived quickly, and the group stepped inside. When they reached the first floor, Lou Qingshuang wanted to leave, but Liu Yu reached out and took her hand. She held the elevator door closed and turned to look at Lou Qingshuang. “I am taking you to work.”
Feeling the warmth and dryness of Liu Yu’s palm, Lou Qingshuang instinctively pulled her hand back, but she stopped arguing about taking a taxi. She was afraid that if she insisted on a taxi again, Liu Yu would simply drag her away.
The Bentley was waiting at the elevator exit. A bodyguard opened the door for them, and Liu Yu motioned for Lou Qingshuang to get in.
Lou Qingshuang glanced around to make sure no one was watching and hurried into the car.
“Thank you,” Lou Qingshuang said softly once seated. Her posture and manner were like someone trying to hide.
“Am I that embarrassing to be seen with?” Liu Yu asked curiously.
Lou Qingshuang went silent for a moment. She absolutely did not want to end up on the entertainment headlines. She muttered quietly, “It’s me who’s embarrassing to be seen.”
