- Chapter 16 - I Don’t Like You, Liu Yu
Shen Yue was gone, and Lou Qingshuang’s heart was empty. Shen Yue hadn’t said a single word before leaving, proving she had been prepared for a long time.
“Heh.” Lou Qingshuang let out a cold laugh. The corners of her lips curled up as tears slid from her eyes—she looked cold, distant, and utterly broken.
“Shuangshuang.” Wanshuang took Lou Qingshuang’s hand, looking at her with deep concern.
“I’m fine. Let’s head back to the company first and prepare for the battles ahead,” Lou Qingshuang said softly, shaking her head.
The locks on her house had been changed, and Shen Yue’s access permissions with the property management had been deleted.
Shen Qiao looked at her daughter worriedly. “Shuangshuang, what happened?”
Lou Qingshuang shook her head with a nonchalant smile on her face. “Mom, nothing’s wrong. Shen Yue just had some urgent business to take care of back home. I’m heading to the office now.”
“Alright.” Shen Qiao looked at her daughter, who was forcing a smile, and squeezed her hand tightly without asking further questions. Her eyes were full of love and support. “Mom will wait for you at home.”
“Okay,” Lou Qingshuang nodded with a smile and returned to the company with Wanshuang.
By the time they finished processing everything at the office, the sky was already pitch black.
Lou Qingshuang stared out at the dark sky through the window. Standing in the office building in her dress, she suddenly grabbed her coat and walked out.
Inside the bar, Lou Qingshuang sat at a small, secluded table, drinking glass after glass. The bar’s live singer was performing a melancholy song.
Lou Qingshuang tilted her head back, downing a shot of whiskey. Next to her sat a “Water of Forgetfulness” mixed by the bartender.
She radiated a sense of misery hidden beneath a cold exterior. Several people tried to strike up a conversation, but she ignored them all, focusing solely on her drinks.
The owner of Club X came out for a floor check and spotted Lou Qingshuang immediately. He quickly placed a call to Liu Yu’s assistant.
“Assistant Lan Dai, that person you mentioned last time is here and she’s drunk. She’s already had over twenty glasses of whiskey. I’m afraid she’ll pass out. Do you want to send someone to pick her up?” the bar owner asked with extreme politeness and caution.
Lan Dai turned to look at Liu Yu, who was currently working overtime. After pressing the mute button, she spoke up: “Chairman Liu, Ms. Lou is drunk at Club X.”
Liu Yu, who was writing with a black fountain pen, looked up. A slight change flickered across her normally cold face. She unhurriedly capped her pen. “Tonight’s work ends here.”
Lan Dai smiled where Liu Yu couldn’t see. She unmuted the call and said, “Thank you. We will be there shortly.”
“Certainly, certainly. Rest assured, we are a legitimate establishment with guaranteed security,” the bar owner replied softly.
He knew who Liu Yu was. As long as he didn’t offend her, everything would be fine.
When Liu Yu arrived by car, it happened to be pouring rain. Liu Yu stared at the heavy rain outside the window; today really did match Lou Qingshuang’s mood.
Inside the bar, Lou Qingshuang stared at the dark brown whiskey with blurred eyes. She knew she had reached her limit, but she couldn’t go home—she didn’t want her mother to worry.
The matter with Shen Yue was like a knife plunged into Lou Qingshuang’s heart; she couldn’t touch it, and she couldn’t pull it out.
She lowered her head as tears dripped down. Her breathing felt as though it were blocked by cotton; she could hardly catch her breath.
An exquisite handkerchief appeared before Lou Qingshuang’s eyes. It was pristine white and carried a faint, woody incense fragrance. Lou Qingshuang’s tears fell onto it as that familiar, domineering, and unmistakable scent surrounded her.
“Why are you here again?” Lou Qingshuang said rudely as she took the handkerchief to wipe away her tears.
Liu Yu stood beside her, her gaze deep and inscrutable. “Let’s go. I’ll take you back.”
“No, I’m not going back tonight. Are you going to take me in?” Lou Qingshuang propped her chin on one hand, looking at her with a lazy, seductive gaze. Her eyes, shimmering with a thin layer of moisture, paired with her upturned red lips as she stared defiantly at Liu Yu.
Liu Yu’s fingertips twitched slightly. She leaned down, pressing close to Lou Qingshuang’s ear. “If you are willing.”
Lou Qingshuang narrowed her eyes, her curled eyelashes brushing against Liu Yu’s face. She said provocatively, “Chairman Liu, it couldn’t be that you’re afraid, could it?”
Liu Yu turned her head, nearly kissing Lou Qingshuang’s eyelashes. Lou Qingshuang caught her breath as she looked at those thin lips; she pulled back slightly, putting some distance between them.
Lou Qingshuang looked at those lips, thinking they looked quite kissable, but she still turned her head away to avoid them. Liu Yu had already straightened up.
Drunk and dazed, Lou Qingshuang looked at the drink beside her and downed another glass. The dark brown liquid trickled down her chin, staining her lipstick. Liu Yu watched the drop of alcohol slide down, her gaze darkening. She reached out and took the glass from Lou Qingshuang’s hand. “You’re drunk.”
Lou Qingshuang stared at her for a long time, trying to see through Liu Yu. She was elegant, cold, and possessed the calm composure of a superior. Such a person was extremely charismatic. Lou Qingshuang sighed. “Just leave. Someone will come to pick me up later. I don’t want to be involved with you. You can withdraw your investment.”
She stood up unsteadily, her eyes misty and intoxicated. It was okay to be sad tonight, but after tonight, there would be no more sorrow.
Earlier, she truly had intended to sell the formula. Lou Qingshuang didn’t want to be entangled with anyone anymore. But she couldn’t do that to her best friend—she couldn’t leave her alone in the business world.
Liu Yu reached out to support her, narrowing her eyes as she asked coldly, “Are you going to refuse to stand back up just because of one person who betrayed you?”
Lou Qingshuang looked up at her chillingly. “And you? From what position are you saying this?”
“As someone pursuing you,” Liu Yu lowered her head and whispered.
Lou Qingshuang let out a cold laugh. She looked directly into Liu Yu’s eyes and said, fueled by the alcohol, “Liu Yu, you don’t like me. You just like the thrill of conquest. And because I am the first person to reject you, you simply can’t let it go.”
Liu Yu looked at her; the scent of roses was filled with heartbreak. She softened her voice. “We can talk about this tomorrow when you’ve sobered up.”
Lou Qingshuang raised her hand, preparing to leave. As Liu Yu stood behind her, Lou Qingshuang lost her balance and stumbled. Once again, she was caught by Liu Yu, ending up leaning against Liu Yu’s chest.
