Her Alpha - Chapter 6
It was almost nine o’clock, not too late, but the crowd on the street had taken on a muted, multicolored hue, no longer as bright and vibrant as it was during the day. Each person wore their own joys and sorrows on their faces, hurrying toward their own life journeys.
Shen Zuofeng turned on the autopilot and glanced at Chi Qingwei in the passenger seat, apologetically saying, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you don’t like Western food. I noticed you didn’t eat much earlier. Should I take you somewhere else to grab a bite?”
“No need, I’m not really hungry right now,” Chi Qingwei replied.
Shen Zuofeng fell silent for a moment. “Then I’ll take you home. May I ask where you live?”
In her heart, she still wanted to spend a little more time with Chi Qingwei.
“Ziluo Yujin.”
“Alright.”
Shen Zuofeng entered the destination into the system. Once the topic ended, she suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
Silence spread through the small car cabin. Shen Zuofeng swallowed lightly, wanting to say something to break the awkward atmosphere. But perhaps because she cared too much, every topic that came to mind was immediately dismissed, fearing it might leave a bad impression on Chi Qingwei.
“Once the contract is officially signed, we will immediately organize the formation of the crew and begin casting. We’ll notify you for the joint interviews then,” Chi Qingwei said, noticing Shen Zuofeng’s nervousness and taking the initiative to speak.
“Alright, I hope everything goes smoothly then,” Shen Zuofeng nodded, then suddenly asked, “Miss Chi, do you eat spicy food?”
“Hmm?”
“I want to understand your taste preferences.”
“Why?” she asked, feigning ignorance.
“Because I want to ask you out again in the future.”
Such a straightforward statement made Shen Zuofeng’s face flush slightly.
Chi Qingwei leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes, casually replying, “I can eat it, but not too spicy. Just a little bit is fine.”
So she leans toward milder flavors. Shen Zuofeng made a mental note and said, “I’ll remember that. And next time, I won’t take you to a Western restaurant.”
Chi Qingwei glanced at her briefly before giving a faint acknowledgment. Perhaps it was because she had drunk two glasses of wine during dinner, but she was starting to feel lazy, and closing her eyes made her want to sleep.
Seeing her like that, Shen Zuofeng thoughtfully turned off the car’s interior lights and said softly, “Rest for a while. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
“Mm, thank you.”
Chi Qingwei nodded. For an alpha, her behavior was surprisingly trusting.
Yet, for some reason, she inexplicably trusted Shen Zuofeng.
Watching her profile, Shen Zuofeng smiled softly. So this is what it feels like to like someone.
She took out her phone. Earlier, she had felt it vibrating but hadn’t checked it because she was talking to Chi Qingwei. Opening it now, she saw that Yang Huai had called twice, with the calls quite close together.
Shen Zuofeng frowned slightly, feeling a bit puzzled. Just as she was about to call back, a message from Yang Huai came in.
Opening it, she was taken aback over thirty messages. If she hadn’t read what he wrote, she would have thought something serious had happened.
“Haven’t heard from you yet. Don’t tell me you’ve already won over Miss Chi tonight?”
Seeing the last message, Shen Zuofeng frowned and immediately replied, “Miss Chi is a very good person. We just had dinner together tonight.”
On the other end of the phone, Yang Huai was amused by the reply. His fingers flew across the screen as he typed, “Of course I know Miss Chi is a good person. If she weren’t, you wouldn’t have taken a liking to her, right? And when I said ‘win me over,’ I didn’t specify what I meant. You’re getting so worked up did you think of something else? Shen Xiaofeng, you’re not being honest, are you~”
After learning from Cai Meilin that Shen Zuofeng had developed feelings for the eldest daughter of the Chi family, his curiosity was instantly piqued, and he rushed over to get the scoop straight from the source.
He and Shen Zuofeng had known each other for seven years, and in all that time, he had never seen her show even the slightest interest in anyone. She was so detached and self-sufficient that it seemed like she didn’t need anyone else. Now that he finally discovered she had a spark of interest, he couldn’t resist coming to get the firsthand gossip, even if it meant putting off catching up on sleep.
Shen Zuofeng: “…”
Her face flushed red all the way to her neck as she silently cursed her own dirty mind.
“So, what did you need?” Shen Zuofeng tried to sound serious.
“I do have something. I want to know how you managed to stir that celestial heart of yours?”
Seeing how enthusiastically he was teasing her, it seemed he had temporarily escaped Meng Bingsen’s pestering and was taking a breather.
Shen Zuofeng sighed helplessly. “Don’t talk nonsense. It’s only natural to like someone.”
“You’re still human? I was starting to think you were a robot,” Yang Huai exclaimed in surprise.
To be honest, she really didn’t seem human. Ever since he’d known her, she had always seemed detached from worldly desires, relying solely on various suppressants. Even during the most challenging rut periods for alphas, she endured them on her own, without seeking comfort from any omega.
Even when doctors warned her that the accumulated pheromones from long-term lack of soothing could drive a person mad, she never considered seeking anyone out during her rut.
Shen Zuofeng was utterly exasperated with him. “Nothing’s even happened yet. What’s the point of saying all this?”
“What do you mean, no point? I can teach you how to chase someone!” As someone with experience, Yang Huai felt he had far more authority on the matter than Shen Zuofeng.
Shen Zuofeng: “…”
For a moment, she was actually tempted.
“Wasn’t it Meng Bingsen who pursued you first?” Shen Zuofeng snapped back to reality. She wasn’t even sure if Yang Huai was reliable, what if he gave her terrible advice and she ended up with nothing?
“It’s true he pursued me first! But later, I pursued him back! I made sure he got a taste of what it’s like to be chased.”
Shen Zuofeng: You two really know how to have fun.
“I’m not talking to you anymore. I have things to do.”
Shen Zuofeng glanced at the navigation and saw they were almost at their destination. Ignoring Yang Huai’s protests, she swiftly turned off her phone screen, cutting off any further messages.
“Miss Chi, we’re almost there.” Shen Zuofeng looked at her elegant profile and felt reluctant to wake her.
“Hmm? Oh.” Chi Qingwei opened her eyes and, recognizing the familiar gate in the distance, nodded. “You can stop right up ahead.”
Shen Zuofeng pulled over as instructed.
“Thank you. Drive safely on your way back.” Chi Qingwei opened the car door to get out, but just before closing it, she leaned down and softly said to Shen Zuofeng inside, “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Shen Zuofeng watched her retreating figure, her heart pounding rapidly in her chest.
Returning to her own home, Shen Zuofeng immediately threw herself onto the sofa as soon as she stepped inside. She pulled out her phone and began typing away with a series of soft taps.
“I’m home now. Sweet dreams.”
Chi Qingwei replied, “Alright, sweet dreams.”
Looking at the two lines of text in the chatbox, Shen Zuofeng couldn’t help but purse her lips into a smile, like a young girl in the throes of first love, unable to control her emotions.
On the other end, Chi Qingwei set her phone down and continued drying her damp hair, letting out a soft chuckle. “That was quick.”
Ding-dong.
A notification tone sounded from her black phone. Thinking it was another message from Shen Zuofeng, Chi Qingwei opened it, only to find it was from her private doctor.
Jiang Muyu: “Xiao Chi, your heat cycle is coming up soon. You need to be prepared.”
Although Jiang Muyu was her private doctor, she was also a friend. Every time Chi Qingwei’s heat cycle approached, Jiang Muyu would remind her early on to prepare, acting like a worried mother hen.
Chi Qingwei frowned, her previously relaxed mood sinking. Every time this happened, she felt that fate was both unfair and fair.
It gives you something, but it also demands something in return.
Alphas and omegas enjoy a higher social status than betas, but in return, they also have to give a little more.
Alphas’ sensitive periods and omegas’ heat cycles would accompany these two types of people for their entire lives.
During their sensitive periods, alphas become extremely fragile and vulnerable. For the more prideful alphas, the weakness and sensitivity displayed during this time are nothing short of a humiliating memory they’d rather forget. As for omegas in heat, no one would want to succumb to their biological instincts and become an animal driven solely by desire. Neither group can control the arrival of these periods; they can only passively accept them.
“Alright, I understand,” Chi Qingwei replied.
Chi Qingwei felt a headache coming on. Although she no longer had a menstrual cycle after differentiating into an omega, the accompanying heat cycle was even more taxing.
The heat cycle typically lasts three to five days each month. During this time, omegas crave the comfort of pheromones. If there’s no one to provide that comfort, using suppressants is an option. However, the heat cycle is often accompanied by a low-grade fever, which is particularly uncomfortable.
Chi Qingwei sighed softly. Fortunately, over the years, even though no one had been with her during her heat cycles, her pheromones had remained relatively stable, with no signs of disruption. Otherwise, if her heat cycles became irregular as well, it would be a real hassle.
Exiting Jiang Muyu’s chatbox, she saw Shen Zuofeng’s profile picture below, a plump, lazy cat basking in the sun, radiating warmth just by its appearance.
Chi Qingwei stared at it for a long time before suddenly breaking into a smile. The reason she had never been in a relationship was that no one had ever caught her eye. She didn’t want to compromise her heart just because of biological needs, but she wasn’t a staunch celibate either.
Now, an interesting person had barged into her life. Though she wasn’t yet in love, at the very least, she didn’t dislike this person. She was willing to give it a try.
Chi Qingwei sent a message to Xiao Xi, finally feeling completely at ease.
Since she seemed interested in him, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to take the initiative too eagerly. But creating a little opportunity for her to make a move couldn’t hurt, right?
Chi Qingwei put down her phone in a rather cheerful mood, humming a little tune as she continued drying her hair.
