- Chapter 17 - A Spicy Girl Joins the Growth House
Chi Li glared at the other man before lowering his head to straighten his disheveled clothes. He had only touched Shen Xunye’s waist, yet he had nearly been stripped of his shirt. That man truly held a grudge over every little thing.
“Then I will leave first?” Shen Xunye’s eyes curved with a satisfied arc. “Message me if you have any instructions.”
Chi Li suppressed the urge to tell him to get lost and said expressionlessly, “See you tomorrow.”
After seeing Shen Xunye off, Chi Li adjusted his collar and returned to his room. It was only after applying a face mask that Chi Li finally had the time to check the phone he had neglected for a while. Upon unlocking it, the first thing he noticed was dozens of unread messages from Gu Nan.
He scrolled to the beginning. The early messages were Gu Nan’s ramblings while watching the livestream or notes on romantic moments between him and Shen Xunye. The messages sent after 10:00 PM were a summary of public opinion he had gathered.
Regarding Chi Li’s arrival, the reactions were split down the middle between those who welcomed him and those who detested him. Those who welcomed him were mostly new viewers or old fans who had previously abandoned the show due to boredom. Those who hated him were primarily fans of Xie Weishui or supporters of the Jin-Shui couple.
Gu Nan specifically comforted him by saying that a large portion of the welcoming audience had not yet started discussing him in the community, so the data was not entirely accurate. Chi Li did not care about that. When he bought those gifts, he had already prepared himself to be hated by many people.
At 10:30 PM, Gu Nan sent over his ship leading post titled, “Night Embers at Dawn: A Couple That All Fans Should Support to Guarantee a Return on Investment.”
Night Embers at Dawn was quite a good name for a couple.
Later, past 11:00 PM, Gu Nan forwarded two highly popular clips. The first was the gift giving clip with 630,000 likes. The second was the clip of him showing the photo of himself cross dressed, which had 590,000 likes. The first video had been posted three hours earlier than the second, yet the likes were nearly equal. Chi Li wondered if that was reasonable.
He continued scrolling down to find the final report Gu Nan had sent ten minutes ago, which was a screenshot of the trending topics.

Chi Li sent a question mark.
Gu Nan replied instantly: “You finally have time for me!”
Gu Nan added: “Dare I ask, what is that question mark for?”
Chi Li replied: “The last one.”
Gu Nan: “What is there to be confused about? You are the spicy girl! Confirmed.”
Chi Li was speechless. He had not expected that despite his blatant provocation of the old members through the gifts, the audience cared more about his female persona. It seemed strange.
As if knowing what he was thinking, Gu Nan sent another message: “The tastes of the audience are very unpredictable. If they could be easily predicted, capital would have mass produced success long ago.”
Chi Li typed: “Understood. Thank you for your hard work today.”
Gu Nan: “It is not hard at all! I am watching with great interest, hehe. If you have no objections to this report, I will send it like this every day until the situation stabilizes.”
Chi Li did not bother with pleasantries: “You will take a ten percent commission.”
Gu Nan: “Oh! My spicy girl brother, I will forever be your most loyal servant!”
Chi Li: “1.”
After exiting the chat with Gu Nan, Chi Li checked the nagging messages from Li Ming and replied to a few congratulatory texts from fellow trainees. He then removed his mask, opened his music app, and prepared to listen to some songs before sleeping. He had a good night’s rest.
The next day, Chi Li stepped out of his dormitory one minute before the livestream began. He intended to find some food on the first floor.
[My wife is here! Good morning, wife!]
[Wife, wife, wife, wife, wife!]
[Wife, can you wake up later next time? I want to see something exciting.]
[Wife, I want to see a new spicy girl outfit.]
Chi Li had no idea that because of one photo of him cross dressed, his personal livestream channel was now full of people calling him wife. He was currently biting into a piece of bread provided by Gao Yuan while pouring himself some milk.
“The Growth House does not provide living supplies, including food,” Gao Yuan explained to Chi Li. “Expenses for events like welcoming new members also need to be split among the old members.”
“Oh,” Chi Li said, swallowing the bread. “Then if I want to cook, do I need to buy a whole new set of seasonings?”
Gao Yuan replied, “You do not need to do that. The people who use them just take turns buying them.”
“Fine. I will call Shen Xunye later and we will go out to buy some food to stock up.”
“He seems to have gone out already,” Gao Yuan said, pointing toward the villa entrance. “I saw his back as he left when I came down this morning.”
“So early.” Chi Li pulled his phone from his pocket. “I will ask him if it is convenient for him to bring some things back for me.”
Gao Yuan leaned in and peeked curiously. “You have already added each other as friends?”
“Yes, we added each other,” Chi Li answered vaguely.
“Then let me add you as well.” Gao Yuan used his lyric book to block the nearest camera and held his QR code in front of Chi Li. “I will pull you into the variety show group. But this group is not for chatting; it is only for announcements and collecting payments.”
Chi Li scanned the code to add Gao Yuan and commented, “Are the relationships in this big family really this cold?”
Gao Yuan nodded in agreement. “Tell me about it.”
[They have to see each other’s faces every day. If they want to talk, they can just knock on the door. There really is no need to chat on their phones.]
[My sister and I live on different floors of the same house and we still use WeChat to talk.]
[It is fine. I believe this cold family will become hot because of my wife joining.]
[Keep your lust out of the main livestream.]
[Actually, they are in deep water.]
“Is this the person you have taken a liking to?”
Shen Wei looked at Chi Li in the center of her phone screen and raised an eyebrow at Shen Xunye, who sat opposite her.
“Yes,” Shen Xunye replied, looking down at his messages from Chi Li. “He is quite good, is he not?”
Shen Xunye had liked all sorts of people, and Shen Wei was not interested in meeting every one of them. The reason she had asked her troublesome younger brother out for a chat was purely because he was on a variety show and she was worried he would harm the public image of the Shen family.
“He is quite good, but why are so many people calling him wife? Is he everyone’s wife?” Shen Wei asked, puzzled.
Shen Xunye asked, “Can all those people be banned?”
“You will have to talk to our older brother about that.” Shen Wei exited the livestream. “Do not forget what I just told you.”
“I will not forget.” Shen Xunye cleaned his ear with his pinky finger. “I sent you a shopping list. Have your assistant buy those things for me.”
“Buying them for Chi Li?” Shen Wei opened her phone, glanced at the items, and forwarded the list to her assistant who was waiting nearby.
“Yes,” Shen Xunye said, looking out the window. “Tell him to be quick.”
A place without Chi Li was so boring.
