- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 96 - Starving
His voice was hushed, laced with deadly allure.
“How about coming to work at the company with me?”
“That way, I can see you all the time.”
Sang Wan’s heart skipped a beat.
Working at his company…
Memories from her younger days, long buried, surged to the surface in an instant.
Back then, just to catch another glimpse of him, to get closer to him, she had gone to great lengths, timing her arrivals and departures to coincide with his, orchestrating one “chance encounter” after another.
He had always been so aloof, so untouchable.
And she? Like a foolish moth drawn to the flame, tirelessly chasing after him.
But now…
If she could openly accompany him to and from work as his girlfriend…
Just the thought made her heart flutter uncontrollably.
Lu Tingzhou took in every subtle shift in her expression.
He knew she was tempted.
The curve of his lips deepened as he leaned in closer, his voice now laced with a mesmerizing charm.
“Before, you could only wait for me downstairs, pretending our meetings were coincidences.”
“But now it’s different.”
“Wanwan, you can openly claim your privileges.”
“With me, you never have to fake another ‘chance encounter’ again.”
Her eyes grew warm, and unable to refuse, she met his gaze and nodded.
…
The next morning.
A golden sliver of sunlight slipped through the gap in the beige curtains, dancing playfully on Sang Wan’s long lashes.
She was deep in sleep, curled up like a kitten in the soft blankets.
A low, pleasant voice called out beside her ear.
“Little sleepyhead, time to wake up.”
Lu Tingzhou was already dressed impeccably, his tall frame accentuated by a tailored dark gray suit, exuding an air of noble elegance.
He sat on the edge of the bed, gently brushing aside the strands of hair that had fallen across her cheek.
“Didn’t you say you were coming to work with me?”
Sang Wan squirmed under the covers, mumbling incoherently.
“Mmm… no… too sleepy…”
Lu Tingzhou pressed his lips together, a teasing glint flashing in his eyes as he murmured in that low, gravelly voice of his.
“I didn’t even touch you last night. You went to bed so early, how are you still this tired?”
Sang Wan kept her eyes shut, refusing to answer, and pulled the blanket over her face in protest.
Lu Tingzhou chuckled softly, bending down to tug the covers away before pressing a tender kiss to her smooth forehead.
“Don’t suffocate yourself.”
Then, with an exaggerated sigh, he feigned disappointment.
“Seems like I still can’t compete with sleep.”
“Go ahead and rest. I’ll head out alone.”
He made as if to stand and leave.
Almost instantly, Sang Wan’s mind snapped awake.
Who was the one who had vowed just last night to work hard?
How could she slack off on the very first day?
Her eyes flew open, and she grabbed the hem of his suit jacket, her voice still thick with sleep.
“I’ll go.”
“You’re way more tempting than sleep.”
She wriggled out from under the covers and, like a koala, wrapped her arms around Lu Tingzhou’s neck, clinging to him.
“No strength. Can’t walk.”
“Carry me.”
Lu Tingzhou looked down at the little woman in his arms, his eyes brimming with helpless affection.
“Such a spoiled thing.”
Despite his words, his arms had already secured her firmly, lifting her effortlessly.
Sang Wan clung to him like a koala, finding the most comfortable cushion as she nestled into his embrace, rubbing her face against him before closing her eyes again.
Lu Tingzhou carried her step by step into the spacious bathroom.
“Want me to help you brush your teeth and wash your face?”
His deep voice, echoing in the empty bathroom, sounded exceptionally gentle.
The person in his arms still seemed half-asleep, squinting lazily before nodding.
“Okay.”
Lu Tingzhou chuckled.
With one hand securely holding her, his other hand deftly picked up her pink toothbrush and held the toothpaste in front of her.
“Squeeze it yourself.”
Sang Wan obediently opened her eyes, twisted the cap off, and squeezed a bit of toothpaste onto the brush.
Then, Lu Tingzhou actually took the toothbrush and began carefully brushing her teeth for her, his movements tender.
The fresh minty scent of toothpaste filled the air.
Leaning against his chest, Sang Wan cracked open an eye to glance at the man’s focused profile.
The morning light cast a soft glow over him, and those usually sharp, cool eyes were now brimming with a tenderness that could drown a person.
Her heart melted all over again.
After brushing her teeth, Lu Tingzhou grabbed a face towel and meticulously wiped her face clean.
Watching as her originally pale complexion gradually regained a rosy glow, her peach-blossom eyes once again shimmering with vitality, Lu Tingzhou’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
He lowered his head, capturing her soft lips with precision.
This kiss was nothing like the restrained and comforting one from last night.
Instead, it carried the heat of the morning and the desire suppressed all night, domineering yet tender.
Holding her steadily with one hand, he cupped the back of her head with the other, deepening the kiss.
The air quickly grew heated.
Between their tangled lips and tongues, even their breaths turned scorching.
Just as Lu Tingzhou’s hand, no longer satisfied with merely holding her, began slipping beneath the hem of her silk nightgown,
Sang Wan shuddered, abruptly snapping awake.
She reached out with her small hand, stopping the mischief of his larger one at her waist in time.
“Lu Tingzhou…”
Her voice, fragmented with emotion, was soft and alluring.
“We’re going to be late.”
The misbehaving hand was held in place by her delicate fingers.
Lu Tingzhou paused.
He looked down at her.
In those unfathomable eyes, desire and restraint waged a silent battle.
The temperature in the air showed no signs of cooling.
Sang Wan’s cheeks burned crimson, her heart pounding wildly.
“We really… will be late…”
She protested softly, her voice sweet and coquettish.
Lu Tingzhou’s Adam’s apple moved heavily.
Leaning down, his lips brushed her ear, leaving a searing touch.
“Mm.”
He responded, his voice hoarse.
“I’ll deal with you properly when we get back tonight.”
The last few words were deliberately emphasized, sending another shiver through Sang Wan.
…
Lu Corporation Headquarters.
The usually bustling and crowded elevator lobby was now quiet, so empty that echoes could be heard.
Lin Hao stood by the private elevator reserved for the CEO, checking his watch for what felt like the hundredth time.
9:32 a.m.
For the first time ever, President Lu was thirty-two minutes late.
Lin Hao frowned, feeling uneasy. He had been tempted to call but wasn’t sure if it would be too presumptuous, like he was monitoring his boss.
Recalling what Sang Wan had gone through yesterday, he figured it made perfect sense if Lu Tingzhou didn’t come to the office at all today.
Yet he had to send a message saying he would come.
It’s already over half an hour past work hours, and there’s still no sign of him.
Could something have happened on the way?
The more Lin Hao thought about it, the more anxious he became. In the end, he pulled out his phone and dialed Lu Tingzhou’s number.
The call was answered after just one ring.
Before Lin Hao could speak, the man’s steady voice came through the receiver, “What’s the rush?”
Lin Hao froze, instinctively standing at attention. “Mr. Lu, I just wanted to ask if you-”
“Can’t you turn around and look?”
The man’s voice cut him off.
Turn around?
Lin Hao was utterly confused.
Behind him was the main entrance, but didn’t Mr. Lu always come up directly from the private underground garage?
Full of bewilderment, he mechanically turned around.
Then, the next second, he froze in place.
Sunlight poured in through the revolving glass doors, outlining two figures walking hand in hand.
The man in front was none other than his all-too-familiar boss, Lu Tingzhou.
Dressed in an impeccably tailored suit, his posture as straight as a pine tree.
But on that perpetually icy, handsome face, there was now a trace of something soft, almost imperceptible.
And beside him…
Lin Hao’s gaze landed on the hand Lu Tingzhou was tightly holding.
The owner of that hand wore a gentle beige cashmere sweater, her long hair slightly curled, none other than the most dazzling rose in the entertainment industry, Sang Wan.
But that wasn’t all.
What truly shattered Lin Hao’s worldview was what Lu Tingzhou was holding in his other hand,
A paper bag, its contents unclear.
But the takeout bag from Li’s Wonton Shop spoke for itself.
This scene…
Was far too down-to-earth, hitting Lin Hao with the impact of a meteor strike.
The untouchable, time-is-life, obsessively disciplined Mr. Lu was not only late but also carrying… breakfast?!
Lin Hao felt his brain was about to short-circuit.
He hurried forward, struggling to maintain a professional expression even as the corners of his mouth threatened to betray him.
“Mr. Lu, Miss Sang.”
Lu Tingzhou gave a faint “Mm” without stopping, leading Sang Wan straight toward the elevator.
His demeanor was so natural, as if he had done this a thousand times before.
“Send me today’s work schedule.”
His voice had returned to its usual cool detachment.
“Try to move up whatever can be moved up.”
The elevator doors opened, and the two stepped inside.
Leaving behind a lobby full of employees, pretending to be busy at the front desk or in the lounge but with ears perked higher than antennas, and one completely petrified Lin Hao.
Silence hung in the air for three seconds.
Then, suppressed gasps and hushed whispers spread like ripples across a pond after a stone’s throw.
“Oh my god, am I seeing things? Was that Mr. Lu?”
“Mr. Lu holding hands with Sang Wan and carrying breakfast!!!”
“The official announcement was real. Holy crap, I’ve lived long enough to see this. The ice-cold CEO stooping for love, this is better than any idol drama.”
“I’m so full. No need for breakfast, I’ve been fed enough dog food.”
…
Inside the private executive elevator.
Sang Wan listened to the faint murmurs outside, her cheeks warming slightly.
She stole a glance at the man beside her.
But Lu Tingzhou seemed completely unfazed, his expression calm as he even leaned down to ask her,
“Hungry?”
Sang Wan nodded honestly.
She hadn’t eaten much for lunch or dinner yesterday, and with two babies to feed, she was starving.
“Then after you’re full, can I have a bite too? I’m starving as well.”
