- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 83 - A Love That Won't Fade
Sang Wan stared at him with burning intensity.
“Master, please tell me the truth.”
Lu Tingyuan slowly raised his head, his expression now calm. His weathered face no longer bore the refined elegance of his past, but rather the transcendent serenity nurtured by years of monastic life.
As he looked at Sang Wan, her face so strikingly similar to Sang Jingchu’s, his fists clenched tightly beneath his monk’s robes, his knuckles turning white.
After a long silence, he sighed and uttered three words: “I am not.”
The heart that had been hanging in suspense suddenly plummeted upon hearing those words. No one else could understand the sensation of that sudden release.
Sang Wan felt it, she even thought she heard it.
A dull thud, as if something had dropped from her throat back into her chest.
She believed Lu Tingyuan. His expression held no deceit.
Then, his voice came again, filled with endless sorrow and reminiscence: “Your mother and I… were close friends. It’s true… I loved her all my life. But her heart already belonged to someone else. She never accepted me.”
Those words explained Sun Meixi’s hatred, and perhaps also why he had chosen to become a monk.
The woman he loved was gone. In this world, he had nothing left to hold onto.
The tension in Sang Wan’s nerves finally loosened, a mist of tears welling in her eyes.
Not from grief, but from the relief of the boulder that had been crushing her heart finally lifting.
As she gazed at this man who had suffered a lifetime for her mother, an indescribable desolation filled her.
In matters of the heart, there was only room for one. That was likely why her mother had distanced herself from him in the end.
If she couldn’t return his feelings, it was better not to meet at all.
Sang Wan wiped away her tears and met his compassionate gaze, speaking each word clearly:
“Thank you. Lu Tingzhou and I… we truly love each other. Without this concern between us, I will walk forward with him, no matter how difficult it gets.”
Lu Tingyuan’s pupils contracted in surprise. Jingchu’s daughter… was with his younger brother?
No wonder…
“Jinxuan’s mother misunderstood. If you truly love each other, I bless you both.”
He knew the Lu family wouldn’t easily accept Sang Wan. The obstacles between them wouldn’t be so easily overcome.
Sun Meixi would never let her into the Lu household.
“Wanwan.”
Just as Sang Wan was about to thank him, a familiar voice called out.
Lu Tingzhou, looking travel-worn, stepped into the courtyard of the meditation hall, his eyes finally landing on the woman he had longed for day and night.
Lu Tingyuan observed his younger brother’s haggard appearance and pressed his lips together. No one could escape love, not even the coldest of their family, their third brother.
Lu Tingzhou approached, taking Sang Wan’s hand, and addressed Lu Tingyuan with a single word: “Eldest Brother.”
“Amitabha.”
Lu Tingyuan pressed his palms together and bowed slightly.
“Eldest Brother, forgive the intrusion.”
“Tingzhou, if you truly love this girl, don’t let her slip away. The Lu family’s gates aren’t worth entering.”
Lu Tingyuan knew he was speaking out of turn, but he couldn’t bear to see these two suffer because of his past.
“Don’t worry, Eldest Brother. She will be my only wife.”
“Amitabha.”
Lu Tingyuan turned to leave. He shouldn’t have interfered, and he certainly shouldn’t meddle in what was to come.
As Lu Tingyuan walked away, Lu Tingzhou pulled Sang Wan into an embrace.
“If something was troubling you, why didn’t you tell me? Why sneak off to see my brother alone?”
Sang Wan took in the redness in his eyes and the late hour, realizing he hadn’t slept all night.
“Let’s go. This is a sacred place.”
Lu Tingzhou nodded, gripping her hand tightly as they walked side by side out of the meditation room.
“The Buddha here is very efficacious. Should we go and pay our respects?”
Lu Tingzhou gently kissed her hand, as if cherishing something precious that had been lost and found again.
Sang Wan pursed her lips. Who would have thought such a grown man would believe in gods and Buddha?
“What do you want to pray for?”
Lu Tingzhou looked at her, his eyes filled with tenderness. “For our love to never fade.”
Sang Wan gazed at him, his handsome features softened, becoming even more captivating at this moment.
“Lu Tingzhou, I love you. Only you.”
Lu Tingzhou pressed his lips together and led her under the wishing tree. As he tied a red silk ribbon inscribed with both their names to a branch, he clasped his hands together and made a solemn wish.
After making his wish, the man wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace.
“Someone might come by soon.”
“We’re out in the open. Why does it feel like we’re sneaking around with you?”
His strong arms encircled her waist as he unbuttoned his coat and drew her inside, gently tilting her chin up with one hand.
“Mmm…”
Sang Wan widened her eyes nervously, trying to push him away, but he wouldn’t budge.
Under the wishing tree, they shared a deep, lingering kiss. From a distance, their silhouettes merged into one.
Hand in hand, they walked down the mountain path. The weather was gloomy, leaving the road nearly deserted.
A sense of tranquil contentment settled in Sang Wan’s heart.
Snowflakes had begun to drift down, and only then did she notice the icicles hanging from the trees along the path.
The rare beauty of the scene lifted her spirits.
Seeing her in good humor, Lu Tingzhou asked softly, “What did Sun Meixi tell you that made you run all the way here behind my back?”
Sang Wan pouted, aggrieved. “She said Lu Tingyuan is my biological father.”
Lu Tingzhou: “…”
He took a moment to steady himself. “Seems like you got your answer.”
Sang Wan blinked, then nodded with a smile. “Of course.”
She couldn’t bear to imagine what they would have done if it were true, how could she ever let go of the man before her?
“Were you really that silly? You could’ve just asked Jinxuan to help check your blood relation. Why trek all the way here in the cold?”
Sang Wan froze for a second. That… actually made sense.
If there was no blood relation, then it would prove it wasn’t true.
She turned to him, lips curving into a smile, and bit her lip. “Lu Tingzhou, I can’t walk anymore. Carry me.”
She hadn’t eaten much last night and had climbed the mountain early this morning, now she was completely drained.
Lu Tingzhou crouched in front of her, letting her climb onto his back.
“Hold on tight.”
As he stood up, he turned his head and kissed her cheek, murmuring the reminder.
Happiness bloomed in Sang Wan’s eyes and spread through her heart, sweet and entirely his.
She leaned in and planted a firm kiss on the side of his face.
“Consider this extra fuel, Mr. Lu. Don’t tire out on me.”
Lu Tingzhou chuckled. “With your tiny frame?”
Sang Wan rested her head against his back, thinking it would be nice if they could just keep walking like this forever.
Having barely slept for two nights, the rhythmic motion lulled her into a deep slumber.
Lu Tingzhou felt her steady breathing against his back, her arms around him loosening slightly. He knew she had fallen asleep.
The emptiness of the past day and night was finally filled in this moment.
When they reached the foot of the mountain, Qi Qi saw Lu Tingzhou carrying Sang Wan and assumed she had fainted from distress, rushing over anxiously.
“She’s just asleep. Let’s head to the hotel.”
…
By the time Sang Wan woke, dusk had settled outside.
Seeing the man still asleep beside her, her heart ached with tenderness.
Originally, she had just wanted him to recite a passage, but unexpectedly, he had fallen asleep. When she woke up, it was already this late.
She reached out and touched the stubble on Lu Tingzhou’s chin, then leaned in to plant a soft kiss.
Just as she was about to pull away, a strong hand pressed against the back of her head, leaving her no room to retreat.
Sang Wan was kissed breathless, only then realizing that he had been holding back on the mountain.
Seeing the person in his arms panting heavily, Lu Tingzhou released her. “I’ll deal with you later.”
“Why later?” Sang Wan blurted out in confusion.
Immediately, she regretted it, it sounded as if she couldn’t wait.
“First, we need to replenish our energy.” Lu Tingzhou pinched her cheek, his voice laced with amusement. “Besides, there’s a famous hot spring here. Since we’re not planning to leave tonight anyway, why not go for a soak?”
A hot spring?
Images flashed through Sang Wan’s mind. This man was always insatiable, could he really just soak in the hot spring without any ulterior motives?
Now she fully understood what he meant by “dealing with her later.”
Qi Qi didn’t want to disturb the two of them and decided to go out for a stroll.
Unexpectedly, she ran into Lin Hao, who was accompanying his boss on a romantic getaway.
Seeing him idling by the roadside, she went over to greet him.
“Assistant Lin, let’s grab a meal together. There’s nothing for us to do here anyway.”
Lin Hao nodded cheerfully. “My treat.”
“Then I’ll treat you to a movie.”
Lin Hao nodded again. “Sounds like a great idea.”
The two hit it off immediately.
Both Sang Wan and Lu Tingzhou were hungry. After leaving the room, they headed to the dining area and picked a few of their usual favorite dishes.
Once they were full, Lu Tingzhou drove Sang Wan to the hot spring resort.
To Sang Wan’s surprise, this hot spring resort turned out to be part of the Lu family’s business. The moment they arrived, the manager came forward to greet them.
“President Lu, it’s been a while. Your room is ready.”
Without a word, Lu Tingzhou took the key card and led Sang Wan inside.
What was called a “room” was actually a small private courtyard.
The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a view of the garden outside.
Sang Wan was stunned. “Has this room always been empty?”
Lu Tingzhou nodded. “Should my room be left empty, or should I let others use it?”
“Fine, rich people are impressive.”
Lu Tingzhou chuckled. “Three years ago, my elder brother became a monk here. I visited and thought the hot springs were nice, so I developed this place.”
As he spoke, he began undressing. Sang Wan’s face flushed. Though they had already shared many intimate moments, he had never undressed so boldly in front of her before.
She averted her gaze, looking instead at the garden outside the window. The design was ingenious, layered like a landscape painting.
Lu Tingzhou noticed her shyness but said nothing. Only after changing into his swimsuit did he approach her from behind.
Sang Wan stiffened, but before she could speak, Lu Tingzhou’s deep voice murmured in her ear, “Let me help you. The hot springs here are naturally rich in minerals, and they’ve also added medicinal herbs. Soaking in them is good for your health.”
Sang Wan grabbed his hand. “I’ll undress myself.”
“Baby, there’s nothing you haven’t seen before. Why are you still so shy?”
His calm, matter-of-fact tone made Sang Wan blush instantly. “You…”
She bit her lip, smiling. “Your face is as thick as a city wall, getting thicker by the day.”
“Thank you for the compliment, Wanwan.”
Two days of longing and worry transformed into the most tangible sensations, making him cherish the person in his arms even more.
At this moment, Sang Wan recalled Sun Meixi’s words asking if she was pregnant.
A shiver ran through Sang Wan instantly. Thinking of Lu Tingzhou’s relentless intensity, she quickly pulled her clothes tighter around herself.
“Lu Tingzhou, if we’re soaking in the hot springs, then let’s just soak. If you’re thinking of anything else, I won’t get in the water.”
Her words were full of warning, leaving Lu Tingzhou momentarily stunned. What was going on? The questions had already been answered, and she had even kissed him at the hotel. Why was she suddenly unwilling in such a perfect atmosphere?
