- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 63 - Pregnancy
In the midst of her struggle, her nails left a mark on his neck.
“Lu Tingzhou, you bastard, get off me!”
Yet he only held her tighter, as if trying to press her into his very being, letting her fists rain down on him like a storm.
Sang Wan continued to struggle, even clawing at him, leaving streaks of blood on his arms.
“Wanwan.”
His voice, broken and hoarse, whispered by her ear.
“You can hit me, but don’t push me away again, okay?”
“I feel guilty about your mother’s death. I know I don’t deserve…”
“But the debt I owe you, the pain I’ve caused, let me spend the rest of my life making it up to you, bit by bit. Please?”
Lu Tingzhou’s vulnerability and remorse did nothing to soften Sang Wan’s heart.
“How dare you? Because of you, I lost my mother, my home. What makes you think you can ever make up for that?”
Summoning all her strength, she wrenched one arm free and slapped him across the face.
The air in the car seemed to freeze.
But Lu Tingzhou’s arms around her didn’t loosen in the slightest.
Instead, they tightened further.
Slowly, he turned his head, his deep eyes swirling with pain and obsession she couldn’t comprehend.
“Hit me.”
“Just don’t push me away again.”
He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his voice desperate.
“I tried… Wanwan, I really tried to let you go.”
A warm drop fell onto Sang Wan’s skin, startling her momentarily.
He was crying.
“But I can’t.”
He clung to her as if she were his entire world, finally returned to him.
“I’ll never let go again in this lifetime.” His voice was resolute.
By now, Sang Wan had no strength left. Her sleep had been poor lately, nights spent relying on pills and alcohol, days fueled by coffee.
That was why her weight had plummeted so drastically.
Lu Tingzhou claimed he couldn’t let go, but Sang Wan wasn’t sure. What she did know was that she couldn’t move on.
She had even thought that if she had known forgetting someone could hurt this much, she would never have gotten involved with Lu Tingzhou in the first place.
“Lu Tingzhou, my mother would hate me for this. Just leave.”
…
Outside the car, Shen Yubai pulled Su Mo aside.
“Little one, do me a favor. Name your price.”
“What do you mean?”
“Those two clearly still care about each other. They shouldn’t let an accident tear them apart. Look at Sang Wan, she obviously hasn’t moved on either.”
“You want me to betray Wanwan?”
“It’s not betrayal, just some guidance. You know how her father treats her. Wouldn’t it be better if she had Lu Tingzhou to protect her from now on?”
Su Mo hesitated.
Seeing her waver, Shen Yubai pressed on, “Besides, how many people do you think have the means to give Sang Wan everything she wants like Tingzhou can?”
Truth be told, Su Mo could tell Sang Wan hadn’t truly let go of Lu Tingzhou, otherwise, she wouldn’t react so intensely to him.
Objectively speaking, Lu Tingzhou wasn’t at fault. It was fate that had played the cruel hand.
“Helping a good match come together is a noble deed,” Shen Yubai added.
After a long silence, Su Mo nodded. She couldn’t just watch Sang Wan waste away like this. Qu You had mentioned she was likely secretly increasing her medication.
“I can try to help, but whether it works depends on Lu Tingzhou himself.”
Shen Yubai brightened. “Of course. If he can’t seize the opportunity, that’s on him.”
Inside the car, Lu Tingzhou still held Sang Wan tightly, his face buried against her neck.
He had never felt so helpless before. No matter what he said, the little girl in his arms refused to accept it.
Stubbornly, she believed that being with him was a betrayal of her mother.
Lu Tingzhou couldn’t push her any further. Softening his voice, he said, “I won’t force you. Just let me hold you while you sleep for a while. Qi Qi mentioned you haven’t been sleeping well lately.”
Sang Wan couldn’t push him away and was too exhausted from crying, so she simply closed her eyes and ignored him. Gradually, she calmed down and eventually fell asleep.
She didn’t wake up even when they arrived at his place. Lu Tingzhou carried her out of the car, and she remained sound asleep, her little face nuzzling against his chest as she murmured, “Lu Tingzhou.”
The moment the words left her lips, tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes. The sight of it sent a sharp pang through Lu Tingzhou’s chest, leaving him breathless.
After settling Sang Wan in bed, Lu Tingzhou sat by her side, watching her for a long time.
He still didn’t know how to break down her defenses. If things continued like this, her condition would only worsen…
When he stepped out of Sang Wan’s bedroom, Su Mo and Qi Qi took one look at his defeated expression and felt a pang of sympathy.
It was clear that Lu Tingzhou genuinely cared for Sang Wan.
Su Mo nudged Qi Qi, who immediately understood and stepped forward. “Mr. Lu, could you explain the situation to my mom? She’ll be here soon.”
Lu Tingzhou froze for a moment, confused.
“It’s like this, Sister Wan listens to my mom. If my mom talks to her, she’ll definitely take it to heart.”
Slowly, Lu Tingzhou pulled himself out of his despondency and nodded. “Thank you.”
Xiao Yan watched the usually composed and aloof Lu Tingzhou and shook his head helplessly. In all the years they’d known each other, he had never seen Lu Tingzhou in such a state.
…
An hour later, Xue Min arrived, escorted by Shen Yubai’s assistant.
To avoid disturbing Sang Wan’s rest, Xiao Yan arranged for Xue Min to stay at his own place.
Lu Tingzhou requested a private conversation with Xue Min, asking everyone else to step out.
Having heard the situation from Qi Qi, Xue Min had just taken her seat when Lu Tingzhou handed her the accident investigation report.
“Mr. Lu, I’m aware of the accident. Back when it happened, I went to Jing City myself.”
“Aunt Xue, the point I want to make isn’t about the accident itself. What happened is an undeniable fact, I can’t argue against it.”
He paused, his expression grave, his eyes filled with unmistakable pain.
“Actually, that day, I was supposed to meet with a business partner to discuss a contract. But halfway through, I got a call from Wanwan, saying her mother was picking her up to go home. I thought I’d go see her, but I never expected the car to malfunction.”
Xue Min was taken aback. “You and Wanwan knew each other before?”
“Yes. We met during her sophomore year and later started dating. After the accident, I was barely conscious in the car, but I saw Wanwan crying her heart out. I forced myself to crawl out of the car to reach her, but I collapsed before I could get to her.”
“When I woke up, it was already a week later. She refused to see me, and I couldn’t get in touch with her. I returned to Shencheng from Jing City and went to her house, but no one was ever there.”
At this point, Xue Min suddenly raised her hand and slapped him… hard.
“Aunt Xue, all these years, I never stopped looking for her. But she had forgotten me. I could only help her from the shadows, support her quietly. I never forgot about her.”
Lu Tingzhou panicked, thinking Xue Min was angry that he hadn’t appeared all these years, leaving Sang Wan to suffer alone.
“Her agent was arranged through my connections. The endorsements and some of her roles, I had a hand in those too…”
“I didn’t slap you because of that.”
Tears welled up in Xue Min’s eyes as she spoke.
“Do you have any idea that Wanwan’s memory loss was due to post-traumatic stress disorder?”
Lu Tingzhou nodded, “I know. I’ve been keeping tabs on her condition through the doctors.”
“But did you know that her stress disorder isn’t solely because of her mother? It’s also because of herself?”
Lu Tingzhou was confused, his brows furrowing even tighter. “What do you mean, herself?”
“Ever since her mother’s accident, she’s been terrified of the color red and has been extremely unsettled mentally. The night Jingchu was buried, I brought her to my house. As soon as we went upstairs, her legs were covered in blood.”
“She was so shocked that she fainted on the spot. When she woke up, she was in a daze and couldn’t remember many things.”
Seeing that Lu Tingzhou still looked puzzled, Xue Min gritted her teeth and said, “She was pregnant, and then she miscarried. Tell me, don’t you deserve to be hit?”
In just a few short days, she lost her mother, and at the moment she lost her child, she found out she had been carrying one.
And the father of that child didn’t show up for days.
Lu Tingzhou never imagined they had once had a child together. His lips parted slightly, but his chest still felt so tight he could barely breathe.
For a long, long time, Lu Tingzhou couldn’t snap out of it.
It wasn’t until Xue Min’s accusatory voice rang out again: “Mr. Lu, can you promise to protect her and ensure she never suffers again?”
Lu Tingzhou took several deep breaths, his voice trembling. “You have my word. I’ll do everything in my power, spare no effort.”
Xue Min wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. “Wanwan can’t let go of you. As for how you’ve treated Wanwan, Qi Qi has already told me. It’s good that she’s forgotten the past, let’s not bring it up again. I hope you won’t forget what you’ve just said.”
After Xue Min left, Lu Tingzhou didn’t move all night. He sat in Xiao Yan’s study, staring blankly until dawn.
Shen Yubai and Xiao Yan saw him in a daze but didn’t disturb him, opting to sit in the living room instead.
“How is finding a woman turning into a life-or-death situation for him?” Shen Yubai muttered.
Xiao Yan scoffed. “Brother Shen, I’d like to ask you, have you ever truly loved a woman?”
The question stumped Shen Yubai. Had he ever truly loved someone? Hadn’t he?
…
The next day, dawn broke.
Sang Wan came out of her room to find Xue Min and Aunt Liu had already prepared breakfast.
“Aunt Xue, when did you get here?”
Xue Min took her hand and sat her down at the table. “You silly girl, keeping things from me and having Qi Qi help you hide it. Look how thin you’ve gotten!”
“It’s for the film role. Besides, Aunt Liu cooks delicious meals for me every day, I haven’t missed a single one.”
Aunt Liu shook her head. “You haven’t missed any, but you only take two bites each time.”
Sang Wan smiled. “No matter how much I eat, you’ll always think it’s too little.”
Qi Qi and Su Mo were relieved to see her in better spirits. They exchanged a glance, hoping this would finally resolve the stalemate between her and Lu Tingzhou.
“Wanwan, Qi Qi has told me everything. In my opinion, your mother would never blame you.”
“Silly girl, if Mr. Lu treats you well, your mother would only feel more at ease. What happened back then wasn’t his fault, he was a victim too. Not only did he barely survive, but all these years he’s carried the guilt over his assistant’s death, taking care of the man’s family and children.”
“That just proves he’s a responsible person. If Jingchu knew, she’d say Wanwan has good taste. No mother would wish anything but happiness for her child.”
“Wallowing in the past, blaming fate, that wasn’t your mother’s nature. She was strong enough to move on, remarry, and have you. You should know what choice she’d make.”
Xue Min’s words left Sang Wan silent.
“Wanwan, Aunt Xue isn’t here to pressure you. I just want to tell you to follow your heart. Don’t let unwarranted misfortunes become stumbling blocks in your path.”
Thinking of Lu Tingzhou’s words from last night, Sang Wan’s eyes grew slightly moist. He was innocent too.
“Aunt Xue, I understand.”
Xue Min gently patted her head. “Good, as long as you understand. Tomorrow is your birthday, I’ll stay here to celebrate it with you.”
…
The next day, as night fell, the most luxurious hotel in the film city, Starlight Hotel, had been entirely reserved.
Today was Sang Wan’s birthday.
In the vast open-air garden, lights twinkled like a river of stars, while the air was filled with the fragrance of champagne and roses.
Shen Yubai stood beside Song Ze and let out a low whistle.
“Damn, Tingzhou is going all out this time, he even had you rush over?”
Song Ze had a vague feeling that Lu Tingzhou wasn’t just throwing a simple birthday party for Sang Wan tonight. There was likely something more planned.
