- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 54 - Origins
Sang Wan couldn’t resist pressing her ear against the door. Before she could hear anything, a waiter approached with a tray.
Acting quickly, she pretended to be passing by but caught a glimpse inside, Wang Sheng was holding Lin Lan on the sofa.
Her mind went blank as she leaned against the wall for support.
The waiter was about to remind her not to pry into guests’ privacy when Shen Yubai tapped him from behind.
“Shhh.”
He gestured for silence, then pointed at the door and Sang Wan, signaling the waiter to leave it slightly ajar.
Understanding, the waiter entered to serve the dishes and quietly exited, leaving the door not fully closed.
Sang Wan had intended to leave when the waiter arrived, but the sight of Wang Sheng embracing Lin Lan had struck a nerve, compelling her to uncover their relationship.
So, she stealthily returned.
“…It’s all your fault! Blinded by lust!” Lin Lan’s hushed voice was laced with resentment. “You just had to provoke that Sang Wan. Now look… no money, no woman, just a mess of trouble! Serves you right!”
Wang Sheng’s voice followed, tinged with impatience and regret: “I did it for you. Weren’t you the one who said the Sang family would all go to Sang Wan someday? That even if they lacked legacy, they were still a piece of meat worth taking.”
Sang Wan’s heart jolted, Wang Sheng had been brought into her life by Lin Lan.
Then Wang Sheng continued, “Besides, if you hadn’t been aiming for a big score, would you have pushed that idiot Xu Shiming to sign a gamble agreement with me? The only smart thing he ever did was marry Sang Jingchu. Becoming a stepdad changed his fate.”
“Once Sang Jingchu died and that old fool lost his mind, Sang Corporation fell right into Xu Shiming’s lap. A pretty sweet deal for a cuckold, huh? Ha! Sang Jingchu acted so noble, yet she fooled around with some random man and got knocked up. Xu Shiming got the bargain of a lifetime!”
Sang Wan felt her blood turn to ice. A deafening buzz exploded in her head.
What was Wang Sheng saying?
Her mother… had an affair… and got pregnant?
Xu Shiming… was just a stepfather?
No, impossible!
Her nails dug deep into her palms as her entire body trembled.
Though Xu Shiming had never been particularly affectionate toward her, he had never shown outright disdain.
And her mother, in her memory, had always been gentle and dignified.
How could this be…?
Inside the private room, Wang Sheng’s hands wandered shamelessly over Lin Lan’s body, his voice growing lewd. “Quit sulking, you little minx. With Sun Meixi on my side, I’ll make a comeback. Even if not, I’ll never starve. It’s been so long since we-”
The vulgar words and the sight of Wang Sheng’s groping hands made Sang Wan’s stomach churn.
But the revelation about Xu Shiming being a stepfather pierced her heart like a knife.
She had a hidden origin story, one she never knew.
Her vision darkened, her body swayed, and she nearly collapsed.
Thud.
She accidentally knocked over a decorative vase by the door.
“Who’s there?!” Wang Sheng barked, instantly alert. He yanked the door open.
Sang Wan’s mind was empty except for the echo of Wang Sheng’s words, stepfather, stepfather, stepfather.
By the time she thought to hide, it was too late.
Just then, a figure darted forward.
Shen Yubai!
He moved like a shadow along the wall, stepping in front of Sang Wan with perfect timing, shielding her from view.
At that moment, Su Mo hurriedly came searching from the direction of the private room.
Sang Wan had been in the restroom for quite some time, and Su Mo, feeling uneasy, had come to check on her.
Just as she approached the door of the private room, she suddenly felt a tight grip on her wrist, and an irresistible force yanked her forward.
“Mmph!”
Su Mo gasped as her back slammed heavily against the cold wall.
The next second, a strikingly handsome face filled her entire vision.
Shen Yubai braced one hand against the wall, trapping her between himself and the surface. His mesmerizing peach-blossom eyes gazed at her with deep affection.
His faint scent of tobacco mixed with alcohol lingered in the air, making him appear both dangerous and alluring.
Su Mo’s heart skipped a beat without warning, then began pounding wildly.
She had never been this close to any man before.
Wang Sheng pushed open the door, his greasy face peeking out, only to witness this tantalizing scene, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, pressed against the wall in an intimate moment.
He narrowed his eyes, his initial wariness instantly replaced by a lecherous grin.
“Well, well, President Shen,” Wang Sheng said, his gaze flickering between Shen Yubai and Su Mo, who was trapped in his arms. His tone was suggestive. “You sure know how to have fun. Young people these days, so full of passion, unable to hold back.”
Su Mo’s face flushed crimson in an instant, wishing she could vanish into the ground.
She tried to push Shen Yubai away but found his arms unyielding.
Shen Yubai, however, seemed completely oblivious to the woman’s embarrassment in his arms. He flashed Wang Sheng his usual roguish smile.
“President Wang, my apologies for the unsightly display,” he said, his voice laced with playful regret. “I didn’t expect it to be you. I’ve disturbed your evening, truly inexcusable.”
He tilted his head slightly, his peach-blossom eyes discreetly scanning the corner to ensure Sang Wan’s figure remained completely hidden behind him.
“Tonight’s expenses at the Imperial Club are on me,” Shen Yubai declared with a bold smirk, exuding an air of unrestrained charm.
Wang Sheng’s face immediately lit up with delight. “President Shen, you’re too kind! Then I won’t disturb your… enjoyment any further!”
With a final meaningful glance at the girl being “lovingly” gazed upon by Shen Yubai, he turned and retreated into the private room, the door clicking shut behind him.
The hallway remained thick with tension.
Su Mo stood frozen, her mind in chaos.
Shen Yubai’s peach-blossom eyes, half-smiling and half-serious, carried an inexplicable depth that made her face burn even hotter.
She could even feel his warm breath brushing against her forehead, sending a faint, ticklish shiver through her.
Shen Yubai also lowered his gaze slightly, studying the girl pinned against the wall.
She stared up at him in a daze, her clear, limpid eyes reflecting his own expression, three parts amusement, seven parts mischief.
Those eyes were as pure as a mountain spring, utterly untainted.
For some reason, Shen Yubai’s heart trembled faintly.
For a moment, he was lost in thought.
“Ahem.”
It was Su Mo who snapped out of it first. She cleared her throat softly, trying to dispel the suffocating tension.
“President Shen, please step aside.”
Shen Yubai snapped back to reality and immediately released his grip on her.
He turned his head, glancing toward the corner.
Su Mo finally caught her breath and followed Shen Yubai’s gaze, only then noticing Sang Wan curled up in the shadowy corner.
“Wanwan!”
Su Mo gasped in surprise and hurried forward.
Sang Wan was crouched on the ground, hugging her knees, her face deathly pale.
“Wanwan, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?” Su Mo anxiously tried to pull her up.
“Don’t ask.”
Shen Yubai’s deep voice intervened just in time, stopping Su Mo.
“Let’s go back to the private room first.”
Sang Wan was settled onto the soft sofa, still looking utterly devastated.
She seemed deaf to both Su Mo and Shen Yubai’s voices, her vacant stare fixed on some distant point.
“Wanwan, what happened?”
Qu You and Su Mo exchanged glances, worried by her condition.
This was exactly how Sang Wan had been during the period after her mother’s passing.
Su Mo gently patted her back, speaking softly, “Wanwan, whatever it is, say it out loud. Don’t keep it bottled up inside.”
The light patting seemed to bring Sang Wan back to her senses slightly. Slowly, she reached for her bag.
“I… I’m not feeling well today. I’ll head back first. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.”
Her soft voice carried deep exhaustion and a slight tremble.
Su Mo watched her with concern. “Let me take you home.”
Sang Wan shook her head. “No need. I… I want to be alone for a while.”
With that, she walked unsteadily out of the private room.
Shen Yubai frowned as he watched her retreating figure, urgently dialing Lu Tingzhou’s number, but the call went unanswered.
Su Mo, still uneasy, wanted to follow, but Qu You held her back.
“Let her have some space. Qi Qi is with her, she’ll be fine.”
Su Mo turned to Shen Yubai, who was still on the phone, and asked suspiciously, “Mr. Shen, what exactly do you know?”
Before Shen Yubai could respond, the private room door swung open.
Lu Tingzhou’s tall figure appeared in the doorway, wrapped in a chilling aura.
His handsome face was etched with anxiety.
His cold gaze swept the room as he demanded sharply, “Where is she?”
Shen Yubai sighed and pointed toward the door. “She left just now, in a really bad state.”
Lu Tingzhou’s brow furrowed, another missed chance!
He turned to leave but was stopped by Shen Yubai. “She must have heard something from Wang Sheng. It upset her.”
Shen Yubai briefly recounted what had happened earlier. Lu Tingzhou’s expression darkened instantly, the air around him turning icy.
After a moment’s thought, Lu Tingzhou asked gravely, “Who was Wang Sheng here with?”
“Not sure. Didn’t see anyone.”
“Find out.”
With those three words, the man strode out hurriedly.
Qu You checked the time. Tomorrow morning was grand rounds, she couldn’t afford to delay any longer.
“Momo, Mr. Shen, I should head out too.” She picked up her bag and reminded Su Mo, “If anything happens with Wanwan, message me. You should go home early too.”
Su Mo nodded reluctantly. “Lu Tingzhou went after her, she should be fine. I’ll leave with you. I’ve lost my appetite.”
As the two prepared to leave, Shen Yubai spoke up. “Miss Su, a moment, please.”
