- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 46 - Evidence at the Fingertips
He took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the restlessness and rising heat within him, trying to keep his voice steady. “An old problem, stomach pain.”
“Stomach pain?” Lu Jinxuan looked skeptical.
“Yeah,” Lu Tingzhou closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them again, his gaze had regained some clarity, though it still carried a restrained intensity. “The medicine’s in the drawer. You should head back first. If there’s anything else, we can talk at the company tomorrow.”
Right now, all he wanted was to send his troublesome nephew away immediately so he could properly “deal with” the audacious little minx hiding under the desk!
Lu Jinxuan watched his uncle’s strained expression. Though worried, he didn’t dare defy him further.
“Then… Uncle, take your medicine soon.”
He left the study reluctantly, glancing back every few steps, and even thoughtfully closed the door behind him.
With a soft click, the study fell silent once more.
A deathly silence.
Lu Tingzhou slowly lowered his head, his sharp gaze fixed on the woman beneath the desk, who was now shrinking back, trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible.
A dangerous tension laced the air.
After only a moment’s hesitation, Lu Tingzhou hauled the little fox out from under the desk, pinning her between his body and the edge of the desk.
“I almost regret not letting Jinxuan see who was hiding under here.”
“Don’t blame me, Mr. Lu,” Sang Wan said, her red lips curving slightly, her bright, cunning eyes gleaming. “You two kept talking, and I got bored. I just happened to see something interesting.”
Lu Tingzhou bit his lip, his voice hoarse as he asked, “Sang Wan, do you like me, or do you just want to sleep with me?”
Hearing this again, Sang Wan was puzzled, finding his logic flawed.
So, she countered, “Can’t I sleep with you without liking you?”
At her words, a smile tugged at Lu Tingzhou’s lips before he leaned down and captured her mouth in a biting kiss.
Just as he was about to push her onto the desk, Sang Wan frowned, letting out a soft hiss of pain.
Lu Tingzhou immediately stopped, lifting her up and carrying her back to her room.
After depositing her there, he warned her to rest properly and not come out again.
Sang Wan was dumbfounded. What was this?
She had fully expected things to escalate, only for him to toss her back like this.
Was her charm lacking, or was he just not up to it?
Unwilling to let it go, she stepped out to check, only to find his bedroom door firmly shut.
When she tried to push it open, it was locked.
He was guarding against her.
Fuming, Sang Wan returned to her room, her mind tangled with thoughts of the man, tossing and turning all night.
…
After nearly a month of nonstop filming, alternating between wirework and packed schedules, her nerves constantly on edge, Sang Wan finally had a few rare days of leisure. Every pore in her body seemed to relax.
For three days straight, Lu Tingzhou left early and returned late.
Though they lived under the same roof, they were like the most familiar strangers, their interactions painfully brief.
That afternoon, Bai Wei brought over some documents from the studio for Sang Wan to review.
Su Mo, now jobless and with time to spare, also dropped by.
With three women in the mix, the living room quickly buzzed with lively chatter.
Bai Wei eyed Sang Wan teasingly. “Living the high life, huh? Staying in a mansion, are you planning to cling to President Lu’s coattails for good?”
Sang Wan took a sip of juice and pouted, “What big tree? He’s just keeping me caged up, feeding me well, but showing no other intentions. A man’s mind is truly as unfathomable as the ocean. Whether I can hold onto him is still uncertain, so don’t get your hopes up too high.”
Her tone carried a mix of coquettishness and helplessness.
Su Mo gave her a light slap, exasperated. “Can’t you just wise up? You’re already living in his house, close proximity gives you the advantage. Just go all out and secure him already!”
“Think about it. Once you have the title of ‘Mrs. Lu,’ won’t you be able to strut through the entertainment industry? By then, Lin Lan and her daughter would be seething with envy!”
Su Mo grew more animated as she spoke, as if she could already see Sang Wan’s triumphant future.
“Mrs. Lu?”
Sang Wan pressed her lips together, not daring to entertain the thought.
Whether she could even step through the Lu family’s threshold was uncertain, but her feelings for Lu Tingzhou were real.
Seeing Sang Wan silent, Su Mo assumed she was tempted and pulled out her phone, typing away mysteriously.
“For your lifelong happiness, I’ve racked my brains! Not only did I lose my job, but I’m also strategizing for you. But Lu Tingzhou really does treat you well.”
Bai Wei nodded. “A man’s sincerity is shown through his actions. President Lu is genuinely attentive to you.”
Sang Wan couldn’t quite grasp Lu Tingzhou’s intentions. He was indeed considerate, but at night, he also kept his guard up around her.
So much for “close proximity.”
Bai Wei handed Sang Wan some documents from her bag, asking if she had any thoughts.
Sang Wan wasn’t particularly invested in the matter. She had stumbled into this path without much thought.
But she didn’t want to let Bai Wei down, she had worked tirelessly for her, even setting up the studio.
“Sister Wei, you handle it. I don’t really understand anyway. If it’s too much, rope in Momo, she studied management and planning.”
Bai Wei’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Right! Su Mo, didn’t you quit your job? Join us. We’ll make sure you’re well compensated.”
Su Mo hesitated. “Sister Wei, I’m afraid I’ll hold you back.”
“Nonsense, with your sharpness, you’ll lead the charge. Besides, our circle is cautious about hiring. Given your relationship with Wanwan, you’re the perfect fit.”
Su Mo glanced at Sang Wan and immediately decided, “I’m in! After freeloading off her all these years, working my butt off for her is payback.”
Working with her best friend, and as a founding member, no less, was an opportunity too good to pass up.
As the three chatted, the doorbell rang.
A local courier delivered a small, exquisitely wrapped package.
Su Mo smirked triumphantly and shoved it into Sang Wan’s arms. “Here, your secret weapon to seal the deal!”
Suspicious, Sang Wan opened it. The moment she saw the contents, her cheeks burned crimson.
It was a sheer, daringly designed black lace lingerie set.
“Su Mo!” Sang Wan, both flustered and furious, made a move to hit her.
Su Mo dodged, laughing. “Don’t be shy! Just adding some spice to your love life!”
Bai Wei watched gleefully, chiming in, “Wanwan, Su Mo’s right. Opportunities are meant to be seized!”
…
Night fell.
Lu Tingzhou returned to the villa, the spacious living room eerily quiet.
The housekeeper, Zhang Ma, greeted him. “Mr. Lu, Miss Sang has been upstairs all evening. She didn’t come down for dinner.”
Lu Tingzhou’s brows furrowed slightly, a flicker of concern crossing his mind.
“What’s this little thing sulking about now?”
With long strides, he went straight up to the second floor and stopped outside Sang Wan’s bedroom door, raising his hand to knock.
“Sang Wan?”
Inside the room, Sang Wan was standing in front of the mirror, holding up the “secret weapon” Su Mo had sent her against her body.
The fabric was pitifully scant, barely covering the essential parts.
Looking at her reflection, her cheeks burned, and her heart pounded wildly.
The knock on the door and Lu Tingzhou’s deep voice startled her.
Why was he back already?
Flustered, Sang Wan crumpled the garment into a ball.
“Wanwan, open the door.” Outside, Lu Tingzhou’s voice grew more urgent.
The sound of the doorknob turning made Sang Wan panic even more. Thankfully, she had locked the door earlier out of guilt.
Taking a deep breath, she steadied her trembling hands and glanced around the room. In her haste, she quickly stuffed the scorching-hot garment under the blanket.
Then, she grabbed the nearby robe and hastily slipped it on. After several deep breaths, she finally mustered the composure to open the door.
With a soft click, the door swung open.
Lu Tingzhou’s tall figure stood at the doorway, his deep gaze fixed on her.
Sang Wan kept her head down, not daring to meet his eyes, her cheeks burning bright red.
“What’s wrong? Not feeling well?” Seeing her flushed cheeks and slightly rapid breathing, Lu Tingzhou thought she might have a fever and reached out to check her forehead.
“N-no, nothing.” Sang Wan hastily took a step back, avoiding his touch, and shook her head guiltily. “I was just taking a shower.”
A flicker passed through Lu Tingzhou’s eyes as he studied her crimson cheeks and evasive gaze, his lips curling into an ambiguous smile.
Without a word, he simply extended his long arms and effortlessly scooped her up into a bridal carry.
“Ah! What are you doing?” Sang Wan gasped softly, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Skipping meals, trying to become immortal?”
The man’s deep voice sounded above her head, laced with a hint of teasing.
Sang Wan buried her face in his firm chest and mumbled in protest, “I-I’m not hungry…”
Lu Tingzhou carried her downstairs, heading straight for the dining room.
Aunt Zhang had already reheated the dishes and set them out.
Throughout the meal, Sang Wan ate absentmindedly, stealing occasional glances at Lu Tingzhou, afraid he might notice something amiss.
After dinner, Sang Wan fled back to her room as if escaping. The first thing she did was rush into the bathroom to wash away the faintly lingering traces of that ambiguous atmosphere.
Steam filled the bathroom.
She stayed under the water for a long time before finally wrapping herself in a robe and stepping out.
The moment she exited the bathroom, she froze.
Lu Tingzhou was actually in her bedroom!
Sitting right next to where she had hidden the garment, with the black silk strap dangling near his leg.
Sang Wan’s heart leaped into her throat!
Had… had he found it?
Lu Tingzhou watched her leisurely, his gaze roaming over her freshly bathed face, still flushed, and the slightly open collar of her robe.
His eyes, like hooks, sent tremors through Sang Wan’s heart.
His deep voice carried a barely perceptible hint of amusement. “Oh? Been up to no good?”
Sang Wan instinctively glanced at the blanket, her heart skipping a beat.
Seeing that black silk strap made her scalp tingle, but she forced a sweet, composed smile. “You’re joking, Mr. Lu. I’ve been at home all day, what trouble could I possibly get into?”
She paused, her eyes darting around as a hint of grievance welled up in them. “The only bad thing might be that if I stay cooped up at home like this any longer, I’ll end up getting fat.”
Lu Tingzhou raised an eyebrow, looking at her with an almost knowing smirk, his gaze seemingly capable of seeing right through her.
His slender fingers, whether intentionally or not, casually slid down from his knee.
The tip of his finger landed precisely, and lightly, on that thin black lace strap.
Sang Wan’s breath instantly hitched!
He lowered his eyes, his gaze lingering on the strap as if studying it with curiosity.
Just as his fingertip twitched slightly, as though he were about to lift the “incriminating evidence” between his fingers…
Sang Wan steeled herself, quickly stepping forward and plopping herself directly onto his lap!
Her soft body pressed against him, carrying the fresh scent of her bath and the warmth unique to a young woman.
“Mr. Lu, always so busy with a thousand pressing matters,” she cooed, her voice dripping with charm as her arms naturally looped around his neck. “How come you’re back earlier today than the past few days?”
Lu Tingzhou was caught off guard by her sudden movement, leaning back slightly as his arms instinctively wrapped around her waist to keep her from slipping.
His deep eyes met her peach-blossom gaze, shimmering with mischief, his lips pressing into a thin line as his voice dropped low, carrying a husky undertone. “Because today was the day I should have come back early.”
The words were laden with meaning.
Sang Wan blinked, not quite grasping the implication behind his words, only aware that the palm resting against the bare skin of her waist felt scorching.
Lu Tingzhou’s large hand began to wander restlessly beneath her robe, tracing slow, deliberate paths along the smooth curve of her back, thoroughly diverting her attention.
Wherever his cool fingertips traveled, they left trails of tingling electricity in their wake.
His beautifully shaped lips brushed against hers in a tender, unhurried kiss, so gentle it was intoxicating.
Sang Wan’s body softened almost involuntarily, her gaze growing hazy.
Just as she was teetering on the edge of losing herself to his teasing, Lu Tingzhou’s other hand moved with lightning speed, deftly slipping between her and the bedsheets to retrieve those thin black straps, and… that scandalously scant piece of fabric.
Lu Tingzhou slowly lifted his eyes, feigning confusion. “Wanwan, what’s this?”
Sang Wan, who had melted into a puddle mere moments ago, instantly froze stiff!
