- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 44 - That Face, So Familiar
After speaking, he gave her a deep, inscrutable look, complex and unreadable, tinged with both disappointment and amusement.
Then he turned, pulled open the door cleanly, and walked out.
With a soft click, the door closed.
Sang Wan: “…”
She stared blankly at the shut door for a long moment before finally snapping out of it.
What did he mean by… like a male model from a nightclub?
Was this man insinuating she was frivolous?
And what was with that look he gave her at the end!
Sang Wan puffed her cheeks in anger. Not only did he refuse to let her touch him, but he also had the nerve to call her frivolous.
The man she thought about every day, after finally clearing up the misunderstanding, not only denied her touch but didn’t even give her a goodnight kiss.
That damn man was getting more and more infuriating.
Curled up in bed, Sang Wan couldn’t help but recall the few kisses they had shared.
She was getting worked up, intoxicated by his allure.
…
The next day, the sun blazed fiercely.
Sang Wan opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling in a daze, still unable to shake the surreal feeling of Lu Tingzhou’s sudden appearance the night before.
All the sulking she’d done these past few days suddenly felt a little undeserved.
She had been the one to block him without a word, refused to see him, and even hit him.
At that thought, Sang Wan suddenly realized she still hadn’t taken him off her blacklist. She hurriedly grabbed her phone to fix it.
Just as she finished, a knock sounded at the door.
Stretching, Sang Wan climbed out of bed, grumbling to herself: It’s all that bastard’s fault for keeping me up half the night.
Slipping on her sandals, she shuffled to the door and opened it.
Seeing the man standing there, she mentally labeled him the root of all her troubles.
Lu Tingzhou knew she struggled with sleep, so he hadn’t come to wake her earlier.
Only when the WeChat message he’d sent finally went through did he know she was awake.
Sang Wan shot him an annoyed glance before turning back into the room.
“Get ready. We’re meeting someone at noon.”
Rubbing her still-groggy eyes, Sang Wan retorted petulantly, “I’m not meeting anyone I don’t know.”
Lu Tingzhou gripped her shoulders and turned her to face him. “Didn’t sleep well last night? You’re in quite the mood.”
Sang Wan looked up at that captivating face, blinked, and answered with feigned innocence, “Watched male models dancing. Stayed up too late.”
Lu Tingzhou’s lips curved into a smirk. “Watch less of that. It’ll only get you worked up.”
With that, he scooped her up and carried her straight to the bathroom.
After squeezing toothpaste onto her brush, he handed it to her.
Sang Wan stared at him blankly. This was the same man who could be tender, cold, and once, utterly heartless.
When she didn’t take the brush, Lu Tingzhou simply brought it to her mouth himself.
When the little fox throws a tantrum, she needs to be coaxed.
Realizing he was about to brush her teeth for her, Sang Wan flushed.
“I’m not a child,” she muttered, taking the brush and scrubbing on her own.
Lu Tingzhou watched her for a moment before stepping out and settling on the couch to scroll through his phone.
After a quick freshening up and changing into a presentable dress, Sang Wan followed Lu Tingzhou out of the hotel.
“Where are we going?”
Eyes fixed ahead, Lu Tingzhou replied coolly, “Visiting a friend.”
The car stopped outside an exclusive, heavily guarded club in the capital.
When the private room’s door opened, Sang Wan froze at the sight of Xiao Yan inside.
Lu Tingzhou’s friend… is Xiao Yan?
Just then, a middle-aged couple approached from behind. The woman, poised and elegant, held the man’s arm.
“Tingzhou, why are you standing at the door? Isn’t A-Yan inside?”
Lu Tingzhou gave Sang Wan’s waist a light pat, urging her forward.
With a slight nod, he confirmed, “A-Yan’s here.”
Xiao Yan curved his lips into a smile but didn’t speak to Lu Tingzhou, instead calling out to Sang Wan.
“Sang Wan, come sit.”
Sang Wan was a little surprised. She hadn’t expected Lu Tingzhou and Xiao Yan to know each other, and from the looks of it, for a long time.
Only after Xiao’s father, Xiao Ansheng, and mother, Yao Ping, took their seats did they notice the woman standing behind Lu Tingzhou.
The moment Xiao Ansheng’s gaze landed on Sang Wan’s face, his body stiffened abruptly.
As the head of the Xiao family in the capital, he was always composed and sharp, yet now he seemed frozen, staring at Sang Wan without moving.
That face… it was too familiar!
It bore an uncanny resemblance to the woman in his buried memories, one who smiled like a flower yet carried a hint of stubbornness.
Seeing Xiao Ansheng’s fixed gaze on Sang Wan, Lu Tingzhou introduced her, “This is Sang Wan. The reason for meeting today is mainly to thank A-Yan for risking his life to save her on set.”
Shencheng, with the surname Sang…
Xiao Ansheng’s breath hitched for a moment as a name he had almost deliberately forgotten surged to the forefront of his mind, Sang Jingchu.
Sang Wan was undoubtedly her daughter.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he forcibly suppressed the emotions churning in his eyes.
Old wounds were best left untouched, and he had no intention of dredging them up now.
“No need for formalities. A-Yan’s injuries aren’t serious, though they’ve delayed your project.”
A faint smile touched Lu Tingzhou’s lips. “Health comes first. The project can wait.”
Meanwhile, Yao Ping also froze momentarily upon seeing Sang Wan, her eyes filled with detachment and coldness.
Though subtle, the dislike in her gaze was like a fine needle, precisely aimed at Sang Wan.
Sang Wan sensed the chill in her eyes. It was only natural for Yao Ping to dislike her, after all, she was the reason her son had gotten hurt.
Out of guilt, Sang Wan forced a smile and said, “I owe my safety entirely to Xiao Yan. There’s no way I can repay such a life-saving favor.”
Xiao Yan chuckled. “Mr. Lu’s gratitude is already more than enough.”
Xiao Ansheng nodded. “Tingzhou is generous. This project is practically a windfall for the Xiao family.”
Lu Tingzhou replied calmly, “You flatter me, Mr. Xiao. You and my elder brother have been friends for years. Our cooperation is mutually beneficial.”
Yao Ping, maintaining the poise of a wealthy matron, remarked elegantly, “It seems even Tingzhou isn’t immune to beauty.”
Her tone was indifferent, her gaze at Sang Wan laced with disdain.
She had always thought Lu Tingzhou was steady and composed, entirely unlike his elder brother, who had abandoned his family for a woman. But now it seemed all men were the same.
Her own husband was no exception.
In families like theirs, how many men didn’t keep mistresses? Actresses and models were the usual choices.
She just wondered if this girl would have better luck than her mother and manage to marry into a top-tier family like theirs or the Lu family.
But judging by her looks, she seemed even more bewitching than her long-dead mother.
Lu Tingzhou caught the unfriendly undertone in Yao Ping’s words but merely smiled without responding.
Xiao Ansheng shot her a glance, and Yao Ping’s lips twitched in displeasure before she forced a polite smile.
Under the table, Lu Tingzhou tightened his grip on Sang Wan’s hand and raised his glass toward Xiao Yan.
“A-Yan, this toast is for you.”
Xiao Yan watched Sang Wan press her lips together before picking up his water glass. “I had no idea about your relationship with Sang Wan.”
Lu Tingzhou downed his drink and smirked. “Now you do.”
Throughout the meal, Yao Ping spoke little, occasionally scrutinizing Sang Wan, and Xiao Ansheng, whose gaze was complicated.
In short, the two of them made her deeply uncomfortable.
Finally saying their goodbyes, Sang Wan let out a deep sigh as she got into the car.
Lu Tingzhou noticed her relief and idly played with her hand.
“Uncomfortable?”
“A little. Xiao Yan’s parents were looking at me strangely.”
Lu Tingzhou curled his lips. “Their son risked everything to save you, what do you think they’d feel? They already have an arranged marriage set up for him.”
Hearing this, Sang Wan had a sudden realization. “They think Xiao Yan likes me?”
“I suspect the same.”
“So, you took me to meet them on purpose?”
Now it made sense, the awkward dinner had been a calculated move. Lu Tingzhou had used the meal as an excuse to make their relationship clear to Xiao Yan.
Not just rumors, but his own public declaration.
Businessmen were too cunning!
Sang Wan stared at his profile, frowning. Would there come a day when he’d sell her out and she’d still be counting the money for him?
“Don’t look at me like that. It makes me think you want to take advantage of me.”
Sang Wan curled the hand he was holding and dug her nails sharply into his palm.
Pouting, she turned to look out the window.
Just then, her phone rang. Seeing it was her professor calling, her face immediately brightened.
“Professor Qi.”
“Wanwan, there’s a design competition. I’ve sent the details to your email. You have to participate. Discuss any ideas with me anytime. This is a notice, not a discussion.”
Sang Wan frowned. “You’re so domineering, Tyrant Qi.”
The girl hung up in dissatisfaction, but her heart leapt when she opened the email.
Design was her passion, her greatest love… as a side job.
Yes, for now, it could only be a side job.
“If you love design so much, why not quit acting and focus on your profession?”
Lu Tingzhou thought to himself, that way, she wouldn’t have so many men ogling her every day.
“My life, my rules. Your life, I won’t interfere. President Lu, please respect personal boundaries.”
Lu Tingzhou smirked but didn’t disturb her as she read the email.
…
When they arrived in Shencheng, Sang Wan noticed they weren’t heading toward her home and grew puzzled.
“Where are you taking me now?”
“To imprison you.”
Lu Tingzhou hadn’t slept well last night, every time he closed his eyes, he saw her pleading, damp gaze asking to see his abs.
Now, he rested with his eyes closed.
Sang Wan had never seen him without his glasses. Watching him with his eyes shut, she stealthily reached to remove them.
But before her hand could get close, Lu Tingzhou caught it. “What are you trying to do?”
Her face flushed, but she feigned calm. “I wanted to see what President Lu looks like without glasses.”
“You can see that later.”
His voice was indifferent, but his grip on her hand didn’t loosen.
The car came to a smooth stop in the Yunxi Villa District.
Sang Wan glanced around, marveling at the surroundings. There was always someone richer, always something grander.
She had thought Jingyuan was impressive enough, but clearly, there was no limit to what the wealthy could achieve.
“This place is safer and more convenient for taking care of you.”
Lu Tingzhou kept it brief, leading her inside by the hand.
The housekeeper and staff hurried over when they saw Lu Tingzhou return.
“Sir!”
Though they worked here daily, the master of the house rarely came back.
Now, seeing him bring a young woman with him, they all eyed Sang Wan cautiously.
“This is Miss Sang. From now on, her preferences come first.”
Lu Tingzhou’s tone was casual, but Sang Wan felt a little embarrassed, it almost felt like she was being kept.
Led to the bedroom by Lu Tingzhou, Sang Wan was surprised to find all her belongings already inside.
The bedding, the pillows, even the curtains were exactly the same as those in her own place at Jingyuan.
She turned to look at Lu Tingzhou, unable to hide the excitement in her eyes.
“Mr. Lu, are you trying to keep me as your mistress?”
