- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 42 - What Does President Lu Want to Do?
It seemed impossible to keep Song Xinran and Kaikai’s matter under wraps any longer.
There were no night scenes scheduled for tonight. He had already checked with Luo Zheng, but even though Su Mo and Qi Qi were both at home, Sang Wan still hadn’t returned.
The paparazzi photos circulating online made him deeply uncomfortable.
The little fox still didn’t have her full attention on him, and Xiao Yan, handsome, from a comparable family background, posed a real threat. Given how many celebrities had been rumored to develop feelings for their co-stars, the usually composed man now found himself unusually agitated. Three cigarette butts already lay crushed at his feet.
Lin Hao watched the scene, wanting to say something, but this was clearly not a situation where he could intervene.
…
At 10:30 p.m., Xiao Yan’s car pulled up in front of Sang Wan’s apartment. The man who stepped out was the picture of elegance.
He walked to the passenger side to open the door for her, every bit the gentleman.
“Thank you. The food tonight was delicious.”
Sang Wan’s sweet smile, directed at Xiao Yan, only deepened the coldness in a certain someone’s eyes.
“It’s rare to have such a happy birthday in the film city. I didn’t expect you to be so talented, not just skilled at the piano, but with such a beautiful singing voice too.”
“Of course. When you’re exceptional, you excel at everything.”
Sang Wan’s proud little expression was half arrogance, half delight.
Lu Tingzhou stood in the shadows, unnoticed, grinding the cigarette butt beneath his foot with brutal force.
After saying goodbye to Xiao Yan and watching his car drive away, Sang Wan turned to head home.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist from behind, startling a scream out of her.
“Ah!”
Before the sound could fully escape, a hand clamped over her mouth.
“It’s me.”
The man’s icy voice calmed her panic slightly.
She turned to see the culprit clearly. Sang Wan stared at him, taking a full ten seconds to steady her breathing.
“You spent the whole evening with him?”
Lu Tingzhou’s eyes were bloodshot at the corners. He had missed her so much, had wanted to explain himself, but not only had she blocked him, she had also met with Xiao Yan.
For days, he had only been able to watch her from afar.
“Who I spend time with is none of your business, President Lu. Or have you forgotten? We’re already over.”
As she spoke, Sang Wan tried to pull her hand free, but his grip was too tight to escape.
“Sang Wan, you come and go as you please, playing with people’s feelings so casually?” Lu Tingzhou gritted his teeth, his expression dark. “Once something starts, it doesn’t end unless I say so. Xiao Yan has no say in his own marriage, don’t waste your efforts.”
His cruel, cutting words made Sang Wan’s heart clench. Was this how he saw her?
Yes, she had been the one to provoke him first, but a large part of it had been simple attraction. She never expected him to humiliate her like this.
Her lips trembled, her eyes brimming with unshed tears as she glared at the man staring her down.
Slap!
A sharp crack pierced the night air.
Even Lin Hao, sitting in the car and worrying on his boss’s behalf, stiffened at the sound.
How could he say something like that? Even jealousy has its limits.
Where’s all that usual cunning now?
Then came the girl’s furious voice. “Lu Tingzhou, if you want to come at me, bring it on.”
With that, she turned on her heel and strode away in her high heels.
Lu Tingzhou watched her retreating figure, his fists clenching tighter and tighter, until his entire body trembled with the effort.
Regret washed over him. After finally seeing her again, how had it come to this…?
After a long gaze, Lu Tingzhou got into the car. He understood Sang Wan’s temper, his foolish outburst would only push her further away.
Lin Hao glanced at the handprint on Lu’s face through the rearview mirror and frowned slightly. Miss Sang had struck too hard.
Two days later, Lu Tingzhou stood beneath her apartment building, smoking quietly, not disturbing her but simply watching the silhouette of the woman cast against the curtains.
On weekends, he also visited the set to see her, but she refused to meet him. He didn’t force it.
Watching her radiant and full of spirit among the crowd, he felt as though his soul had been hollowed out by her.
To make matters worse, the set not only had Xiao Yan but also a young actor who had debuted just a year ago, sunny, cheerful, and looking at Sang Wan with eyes that seemed to speak.
A certain someone’s heart ached with bitterness.
But he knew he had to give her time to calm down.
Their stalemate was abruptly broken two weeks later.
At the filming location of Storm Rising in the film city, Sang Wan, dressed in an elaborate costume, was hoisted by wires to the top of a city gate tower, preparing to shoot a fight scene where she would leap down.
“All departments, ready!” Director Luo Zheng called through a megaphone. “Actors in position!”
Sang Wan steadied her breathing, her expression cold and ruthless, her eyes sharp with intensity. As the wires guided her descent.
A harsh, grating screech came from the pulley securing the cable mid-air!
Then, the wires malfunctioned, and Sang Wan plummeted like a kite with its string cut!
“Ah!” Screams erupted on set.
“Wanwan!” Su Mo’s heart nearly stopped in terror.
Beside her, Xu Mingyue, after a brief moment of shock, wore a faint trace of excitement.
In that split second, a figure lunged forward without hesitation, catching Sang Wan just before she hit the ground. The two crashed heavily onto the floor.
It was Xiao Yan!
Sang Wan, still shaken, felt the world spin around her. Xiao Yan’s muffled groan of pain reached her ears.
“Xiao Yan, are you okay?” She struggled to sit up, only to see his face deathly pale, sweat beading on his forehead, his left arm hanging at an unnatural angle.
“I’m fine,” Xiao Yan said through gritted teeth. “Are you hurt?”
“I’m okay, thanks to you.”
Her right shoulder ached, but she bit back the pain, her eyes red with lingering fear. At least it wasn’t worse.
The crew immediately swarmed around them. Luo Zheng was nearly scared out of his wits.
“Quick, call an ambulance! Now!”
Xiao Yan had suffered a fractured arm and was rushed to the hospital.
Sang Wan, guilt-ridden, accompanied him through every examination.
“It’s not serious. Don’t worry,” Xiao Yan reassured her when he noticed her troubled expression.
“I’m sorry. This is my fault,” she murmured, sitting beside him as they waited for the results, her guilt deepening.
Filming was forced to halt. Luo Zheng was so stressed his hair seemed to turn white. A major safety incident, the male lead injured, production had to stop.
And halting production was a disaster for any crew. Sets, props, actors, every day burned money. Originally planned for three months, delays like this would never be tolerated by investors.
Just as he was at his wit’s end, Luo Zheng received a call from Lu Jinxuan.
“Jinxuan?” Luo Zheng was surprised.
“Uncle Luo, replace and inspect all equipment on set. Spare no cost, ignore the timeline. Film what you can, but safety comes first.”
“Medical expenses and compensation for the actors, the Lu Group will cover it all.”
The weight on Luo Zheng’s shoulders instantly lifted. Overjoyed, he slapped his thigh. “Was this your uncle’s decision?”
“Yes, he’s in a meeting and couldn’t call you himself, so he asked me to pass along the message.”
Luo Zheng was overjoyed, nearly kneeling in gratitude to Lu Tingzhou. A backer like this was truly unprecedented.
After hanging up, Luo Zheng immediately informed the assistant director to proceed with filming the scenes they could shoot first, while the lead actors’ parts would wait until Xiao Yan’s injuries improved.
Once everything was arranged, he couldn’t help but think, Lu Tingzhou really did care about Sang Wan.
He had initially assumed it was just a case of being swayed by her looks, a typical casting couch scenario, but it seemed he valued her far more than that.
Xiao Yan’s injuries weren’t severe, just a minor fracture, but his family insisted he return to Beijing for recovery, unwilling to take any risks.
Sang Wan felt guilty. If he hadn’t caught her without hesitation, she would have landed headfirst and possibly ended up with brain damage.
Hearing he was returning to Beijing, she insisted on accompanying him.
The moment she and Xiao Yan left, Lu Tingzhou arrived.
When he learned Sang Wan had gone to Beijing with Xiao Yan, he leaned against his car and lit a cigarette.
Lin Hao had reviewed the incident report and sensed something off.
“Mr. Lu, the on-site investigation didn’t reveal anything unusual. The only thing is, the operator today was a temp, not the same one as yesterday.”
Working under Lu Tingzhou had trained Lin Hao to be cautious, always thinking one step ahead, which made him pay closer attention to such details.
Lu Tingzhou immediately grasped his implication. Remembering that Xu Mingyue was also on set, he said coldly, “Investigate quietly.”
…
Sang Wan and Xiao Yan stepped out of the airport to find the Xiao family’s car already waiting at the exit.
Before parting, Sang Wan spoke up, “Xiao Yan, I really don’t know what to say about this whole situation.”
“You’ve been thanking me the entire trip, my ears are about to fall off. Get in the car. Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
Sang Wan shook her head. “No… Sister Wei is waiting for me too. Your family must be worried about you, so I won’t intrude.”
“A-Yan!”
As they spoke, a woman’s voice called from behind.
Seeing Liu Xi, Sang Wan froze for a moment, surprised to run into her here.
Liu Xi strode over and immediately began inspecting Xiao Yan. “Aside from your arm, are you hurt anywhere else?”
Sang Wan watched the scene with an understanding smile. The rumors were true, Liu Xi clearly had feelings for Xiao Yan.
“Hello, Senior Liu. I’m Sang Wan. I didn’t expect to see you here.”
Liu Xi glanced at her, her eyes filled with unmistakable hostility. “I know who you are. If it weren’t for you, A-Yan wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”
Xiao Yan frowned slightly. “I would’ve helped anyone in that situation.”
“Senior Xiao, Senior Liu, it’s getting late. You should head back soon.”
Sang Wan bowed slightly. Having escorted Xiao Yan back, she felt a little better, her purpose for the trip was fulfilled.
Besides, with Liu Xi here, she couldn’t just stand around as a third wheel.
Bai Wei’s car was parked nearby, and Sang Wan got in as soon as she spotted it.
“You really scared me to death.”
Qi Qi grumbled, “Me too. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when I saw it happen.”
After the scare, the hospital visit, and the flight, Sang Wan was exhausted.
Once at the hotel, she ate a quick meal with Bai Wei and Qi Qi before heading to her room to rest.
The moment she closed the door, a familiar figure, one that made her heart skip, appeared before her.
It was Lu Tingzhou.
Over half a month had passed since they last met. He looked thinner, his jawline sharper, his eyes tired but still radiating an icy aloofness that kept others at bay.
Their gazes locked.
Sang Wan’s heart missed a beat. She couldn’t deny she had missed him all these days.
“Are you hurt?”
The man’s deep voice snapped her back to reality. She curled her lips into a faint, cold smile. “No need for your concern, President Lu.”
“Wanwan.”
Lu Tingzhou’s hoarse call of her name made Sang Wan’s heart clench abruptly. She glanced at him for a fleeting moment before flusteredly moving to shut the door.
Just then, a large, well-defined hand suddenly gripped the door panel.
The force was so strong that she couldn’t budge it an inch.
“President Lu, what do you want?” Sang Wan forced herself to stay composed. “If you don’t leave, I’ll call security.”
Lu Tingzhou stared at her detached expression, his gaze dark and profound. “Let’s talk.”
Sang Wan turned her face away, refusing to look at him. “We have nothing to talk about. Everything that needed to be said has already been said.”
She pushed against the door with all her might, trying to shut him out.
But the pain in her shoulder made her afraid to exert too much force.
Just as she shifted to press her side against the door for leverage, Lu Tingzhou’s tall figure abruptly forced his way in. With a swift motion, he slammed the door shut behind him, locking it.
The sharp click of the lock sealed off all of Sang Wan’s escape routes.
