- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 41 - It's Time for Us to End This
The driver was startled and slammed on the brakes.
“Screech!”
The piercing sound of tires skidding shattered the morning tranquility.
The car door opened, and assistant Qi Qi poked her head out. Recognizing Lu Tingzhou, she froze in surprise.
“President Lu?”
Lu Tingzhou ignored her. His gaze pierced past her, locking onto the slender figure inside the car.
“Sang Wan, get out,” he said hoarsely, his tone brooking no refusal.
The car window slowly rolled down, revealing a flawlessly made-up face devoid of expression.
Sang Wan didn’t even glance at him, speaking indifferently to the driver instead. “Drive.”
“Sang Wan!” Lu Tingzhou took a step forward, pressing his hand against the car door to prevent it from moving.
“What are you doing, President Lu?” Sang Wan finally turned her head to look at him, her eyes calm, even the corners of her lips curled into a faint smile.
That gaze, devoid of any emotion, was so unfamiliar it sent a chill through his heart.
“Talk to me,” Lu Tingzhou suppressed the turmoil inside, forcing his voice to remain steady.
“President Lu and I… don’t seem to have anything left to discuss, do we?”
Sang Wan’s smile deepened, laced with mockery, yet her voice remained sweet and soft.
“I’m very busy. Sorry, but I don’t have time to play with you anymore.”
Her voice, usually so pleasant, now felt like a sugar-coated knife plunging straight into his chest.
“I’m not playing with you,” Lu Tingzhou took a deep breath, trying to explain. “What you saw at the company yesterday-”
“What I saw doesn’t matter,” Sang Wan interrupted lightly.
“What matters is that our little ‘game’ should come to an end.”
She tilted her head slightly, studying him. Those peach-blossom eyes, once brimming with starlight, were now placid, holding nothing but a polite smile.
“Flirting with you back then was just to resolve a crisis I was facing.”
“Now that the crisis is over, and I’ve even secured the lead role in Storm Rising, I’d say I’ve come out ahead.”
“Thank you for your generous ‘charity’ during this time.”
She deliberately emphasized the word “charity,” her smile courteous yet distant.
Lu Tingzhou’s expression darkened inch by inch, the air around him turning oppressive.
Yet Sang Wan acted oblivious, continuing in that honeyed voice to deliver the cruelest words.
“As for you, President Lu…” She gave him a once-over, as if appraising a commodity. “If you ever find yourself single again, and I happen to be unattached, perhaps… we can ‘reintroduce’ ourselves.”
“But for now, please step aside. I have work to attend to.”
“Goodbye, and no need to see me off.”
Every word struck Lu Tingzhou’s ears with crystal clarity.
He stared at her, at that face so close yet impossibly out of reach.
His heart felt as though it had been torn into countless pieces, sinking heavily into an abyss.
He knew Sang Wan well. The calm facade she wore now was a sign of her fury, she needed time to cool down.
In the end, he slowly released his grip on the car door.
The car sped away, leaving him behind in a cloud of dust.
Not far away, in a van, a pair of triumphant eyes watched everything unfold.
Song Zixi held up her phone, capturing the entire scene, from Lu Tingzhou stopping the car to his dazed stare as it drove off, in crisp detail.
A smirk of schadenfreude curled her lips as she swiftly sent the video to Song Xinran.
“Sis, I know Sang Wan. She’s proud to the bone and wouldn’t gamble with her future. She’ll definitely cut her losses in time.”
On the other side, Song Xinran stared at the video on her phone, fingertips trembling slightly.
The sight of Lu Tingzhou looking utterly devastated and desperately blocking someone’s path was something she’d never witnessed before.
The unease in her heart suddenly intensified.
A man who rarely falls in love, once he does, it’s catastrophic.
Sang Wan couldn’t become that exception. She wouldn’t allow it.
Taking a deep breath, Song Xinran dialed a number.
“Madam, I’ve been back for a few days and have been meaning to invite you for tea. Don’t you think it’s time we met?”
…
An hour later, in an elegant private room at an exclusive members-only club.
Sun Meixi held a bone china teacup, taking a graceful sip without even lifting her eyelids.
Nearly forty, well-maintained, with a hint of sharpness in her eyes and brows.
“Why the sudden return? Weren’t things going well over there?” Sun Meixi set down her cup, her tone indifferent.
Song Xinran smiled faintly. “Madam must wish I’d never come back, or better yet, died abroad.”
Sun Meixi glanced at her, lips curving. “Not necessarily. Whether you live or die makes no difference to me.”
“Is that so?” Song Xinran chuckled. “If only you truly thought that way. My worthless life could never compare to yours as the esteemed Mrs. Lu.”
“No need for such talk between us. What do you want?” Sun Meixi got straight to the point.
“Naturally, I need your help.”
“Oh?” Sun Meixi raised an eyebrow, smirking. “What could I possibly help you with?”
Song Xinran bit her lip, softening her voice. “Sister Meixi, we’re in the same boat after all. I know you have influence with the old master. Could you put in a good word for me in front of him?”
“Lu Tingzhou… seems quite taken with that Sang Wan.”
Sun Meixi scoffed. “Song Xinran, after all these years, you still haven’t warmed Lu Tingzhou’s heart. How utterly useless.”
Song Xinran’s face paled, her hands clenching tightly at her sides.
“Sister Meixi, help me secure my position, and I’ll never mention what happened back then. Of course, given our good relationship, if I succeed, you’ll benefit too. Given the current situation, do you really think Lu Jinxuan stands a chance against Lu Tingzhou?”
Sun Meixi gritted her teeth, lips curling as she fixed Song Xinran with a sharp gaze. “Do you really think I’m afraid of you?”
Meeting her eyes, Song Xinran replied calmly, yet with an underlying threat.
“Sister Meixi, I have nothing to lose, while you have everything to protect. Besides, with Lu Tingzhou shielding me now, even if you wanted to act against me, it wouldn’t be so easy. So, cooperation is our best option, a win-win. If someone else becomes Lu Tingzhou’s wife, would she help you? Could we still maintain this peace between us?”
Sun Meixi’s expression shifted slightly, her fingers tightening around the teacup.
This Song Xinran had grown more cunning, pressing her at every turn.
After a long silence, Sun Meixi picked up her cup, gently blowing on the steam.
“I’ll see what I can do,” she said coolly. “But don’t get your hopes up. That stubborn mule Lu Tingzhou might not even listen to the old master.”
Song Xinran’s heart leapt with joy. “The old master knows about my relationship with Sheng’an. He’ll agree. Once he does, Tingzhou will have to think twice.”
As long as Sun Meixi was willing to help, the matter was half accomplished.
The reason Sun Meixi agreed had another layer, because the person involved was Sang Wan.
She would never allow Sang Wan to enter the Lu family.
…
Nighttime.
Lu Tingzhou sat in a private room at Imperial Club, holding a glass of wine as he drank with Shen Yubai.
The liquor burned down his throat, and he couldn’t help but frown.
Sang Wan’s cold, mocking peach-blossom eyes lingered in his mind, refusing to fade.
He knew the little girl was truly furious this time.
“Did you see the trending topic?”
Shen Yubai took in Lu Tingzhou’s dark aura and assumed he had seen the gossip about Sang Wan and Xiao Yan.
A leaked photo showed their first intimate scene together. Though the shot was distant, the chemistry was palpable.
Recently, there had been numerous candid shots of Sang Wan and Xiao Yan laughing together on set. Now that their first kiss scene had surfaced, it instantly shot to the top of the trending list.
“What trending topic?”
Lu Tingzhou pulled out his phone, and after seeing the content, he downed the entire glass in one go.
Another provocation.
Shen Yubai understood the situation from his reaction, but if Lu Tingzhou didn’t want to talk, no one could pry it out of him.
Meanwhile, Su Mo was video-chatting with Sang Wan.
Seeing her slightly tipsy state, Su Mo could tell she was upset and began fishing for details.
“Do you miss him, or did he piss you off?”
“Don’t mention him to me. I don’t know him.”
The girl was emotional when drunk, and at the mention of something she didn’t want to hear, she hung up abruptly.
Su Mo was puzzled and immediately called Qi Qi.
When she heard the words, “Lu Tingzhou has a woman and a child abroad,” Su Mo exploded.
Damn it, wasn’t this her fault? She was the one who dug up the intel!
And now she had unwittingly screwed over her best friend.
Late at night, Sang Wan curled up on the sofa, surrounded by toppled liquor bottles, the air thick with the scent of alcohol.
Only alcohol could temporarily numb the dull ache in her chest.
Yet, Lu Tingzhou’s face, the one that had once made her heart race, refused to leave her mind.
His domineering kisses, the shivers his calloused fingertips sent down her skin, everything he had done for her…
But all of it was just a pastime for the lonely CEO.
He had another woman. A child.
And she was nothing more than a plaything to fill his empty hours.
Thinking of Song Xinran, Sang Wan recalled Lu Tingzhou saying he learned to cook because that woman was picky. The bitterness in her heart grew heavier.
…
The next day, when Su Mo saw Shen Yubai enter the office, she stormed over.
With a loud bang, she kicked open the door to his office.
At that moment, Shen Yubai was lounging in his swivel chair, carelessly adjusting his hair in the mirror.
“Who the hell?” Before he could finish, he saw the furious Su Mo.
She pointed at him like a bristling hedgehog. “Shen Yubai, you’re a liar. A damn liar.”
Shen Yubai narrowed his peach-blossom eyes, set the mirror down, and looked at her with amusement. “Secretary Su, how exactly did I lie to you? Why so angry?”
Su Mo marched to his desk and slammed her palm down. “You said Lu Tingzhou was a lone wolf, clean-living! Turns out, his kid is old enough to run errands! You scumbags really do flock together!”
Shen Yubai had initially wanted to tease her, maybe push her to quit so she’d come begging to him later.
Upon hearing her words, his face immediately fell. “A child? Lu Tingzhou has a child? How come I didn’t know about this?”
“You didn’t know?!” Su Mo let out a bitter laugh. “You two are practically joined at the hip, and you didn’t know he has a love child? Shen Yubai, I must have been blind before, thinking that even though you were a playboy, at least you had some sense of loyalty. Now it seems you’re all cut from the same cloth, no good, the lot of you. Deceiving people’s feelings, getting styes in your eyes, rotting your guts, and sores on your feet!”
Shen Yubai stared at her, wide-eyed. Damn, that was harsh!
“Su Mo, you can eat whatever you want, but you can’t just say whatever you please,” Shen Yubai snapped back, flustered. “Lu Tingzhou… how could he possibly have a child? Who told you that?”
“Our Wanwan saw it with her own eyes, and you’re still pretending?”
The more Su Mo spoke, the angrier she got. She yanked her employee badge off her neck and slammed it onto the desk with a loud smack.
“I quit. I’m done with this.”
With that, she stormed out without looking back, leaving Shen Yubai standing alone in the office, muttering to himself.
“What the hell? No way, that can’t be possible.”
But then he thought about Lu Tingzhou’s behavior last night, something really had been off.
Su Mo drove straight to Sang Wan in a fury. She needed to make amends.
When Qi Qi met her, Sang Wan was still diligently filming, appearing completely normal on the surface.
“How is she?”
Qi Qi shook her head. She had only fallen asleep after getting drunk last night, and her eyes were still swollen this morning. She had to use ice packs for a while.
After finishing a scene, Sang Wan spotted Su Mo. Her eyes stung a little, but she still pressed her lips together and smiled.
“What brings you here?”
“I’m here to keep you company for a while. I’m on leave.”
On the weekend evening, Lu Tingzhou stood beneath the apartment building Sang Wan rented, gazing up at the light in her window. Leaning against his car door, he silently smoked a cigarette.
