- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 38 - Lingering Friction Becomes Addictive
That night, she had used a foreign IP address to send the email, effectively covering her tracks.
Yet, instead of completely bringing Sang Wan down, it only made her more triumphant.
The thought of it made Song Zixi gnash her teeth in frustration.
Still, she owed Xu Mingyue a favor this time, Mingyue hadn’t exposed her involvement in the smear campaign against Sang Wan.
Xu Mingyue was obsessed with competing with Sang Wan and had long dreamed of entering the entertainment industry.
She had begged Xu Shiming several times to invest in her, but he refused, insisting she lacked the talent and that any investment would be a total loss.
Lin Lan believed she should focus on nurturing her relationship with Lu Jinxuan instead of trying to break into the industry like Sang Wan.
But when Xu Mingyue heard that Lu Jinxuan, as a company representative, would occasionally visit the set to monitor the project’s progress, she saw an opportunity.
She asked Song Zixi to help her secure a minor role in the drama so she could learn the ropes.
At the time, Song Zixi thought Xu Mingyue might still be useful, so she spoke to the assistant director and arranged for her to play a maid, a role with few scenes, minimal lines, and little screen time, just to give her a taste of life on set.
Xu Mingyue trailed meekly behind Song Zixi, but when her gaze landed on Sang Wan, she instinctively shrank back.
The cheap costume she wore stood in stark contrast to Sang Wan’s exquisite, perfectly tailored outfit.
“Look at how pathetic you are!” Song Zixi turned and hissed under her breath. “You’re this scared of just Sang Wan? How do you expect to survive in this industry? Get that injury on your forehead treated quickly, don’t let it affect filming.”
Her role in the drama was relatively early, a scheming maid who, after being exposed for betrayal, was personally dealt with by the female lead.
Xu Mingyue didn’t respond to Song Zixi’s scolding. She was genuinely terrified. That night, Lu Tingzhou had been horrifying, if murder weren’t illegal, she didn’t know how brutally he would have ended her.
Of course, she wouldn’t mention how her family had nearly been destroyed by that demon Lu Tingzhou because of Sang Wan.
Her father had been so frightened he stayed bedridden for two days. She had been beaten half to death and slapped so hard her cheeks still ached faintly.
Lu Tingzhou’s grim warning still sent shivers down her spine whenever she recalled it.
But now, watching Sang Wan surrounded by admirers, radiant and confident, Xu Mingyue’s jealousy and resentment surged like poisonous weeds.
Why?
Why did Sang Wan get a man like Lu Tingzhou to protect her so fiercely?
Meanwhile, no matter how hard she tried to cozy up to Lu Jinxuan, he wouldn’t even glance her way.
Her eyes burned with fury as she watched Lu Jinxuan’s admiring gaze, fixed unwaveringly on Sang Wan.
Noticing her venomous glare, Song Zixi smirked. “Don’t get so worked up. Sang Wan’s good days are numbered.”
Xu Mingyue turned to her. “How can you be so sure?”
Song Zixi curled her lips dismissively. “Don’t worry about the details. Just know that Lu Tingzhou won’t marry her, she won’t even get to be his kept woman.”
…
After the opening ceremony, filming officially began.
Xiao Yan played Pei Xuan, a powerful minister secretly in love with the female lead, Luo Qiao. The first scene depicted their bittersweet reunion, recognizing each other but unable to reveal their true feelings.
The tender moment of silently gazing at each other was captured by a paparazzo and posted online.
…
Lu Corporation, CEO’s Office.
Lu Tingzhou occasionally glanced at his phone, but there was no message from the woman at all.
Last night, she had been reluctant to part, yet today she had already forgotten about him, what a fickle little girl.
Checking the time, he stood up to head to the conference room. As he passed the secretarial office, he overheard two women chattering excitedly.
“Wow, Xiao Yan is seriously so handsome, he’s practically born to wear ancient costumes!”
“And Sang Wan too! The two of them look absolutely perfect together.”
“Right? This is exactly the kind of chemistry a historical romance drama needs. Just look at the way they look at each other, oh my god, it made me truly understand one saying.”
“What saying?”
“Love fills the heart, but words fail to express it.”
The man who had been about to walk past froze at the mention of Sang Wan’s name.
Listening further, his originally calm expression darkened, as if it could drip with gloom.
“Since when has work been so light that you have time for this?”
Hearing his icy voice, the two women jolted in fright and scrambled to their feet.
One of them trembled, her phone slipping from her hand and clattering to the floor.
She wanted to bend down and pick it up, but seeing Lu Tingzhou slowly approaching, she stood frozen in place.
Lu Tingzhou bent down and picked up the phone. The screen displayed a photo of Sang Wan gazing tenderly at Xiao Yan.
Though the affection in her eyes was restrained, it was still unmistakable to anyone who saw it.
The woman watched as her boss held her phone, staring at the very topic she had just been discussing.
It felt like she had personally handed over incriminating evidence, this was a death wish!
But to her surprise, the cold-faced man stared at her phone for a moment before flipping it over onto her desk and walking away without a word.
The two women watched Lu Tingzhou’s retreating figure and took a deep breath. They anxiously waited until the end of the workday, only relaxing when no disciplinary email appeared in the company inbox.
Sang Wan had been busy all day, her nerves wound tight.
This was her first time working with Xiao Yan, and his acting was so immersive that if she hadn’t known they were filming, she might have truly believed she was living in that era.
Their characters were entangled in a complex web of emotions.
“Senior Xiao, I really learned so much today. Acting opposite you is such a challenge,” Sang Wan said as they walked out of the set after wrapping up.
“You performed wonderfully. It’s been a pleasure working with you,” Xiao Yan replied, his voice warm and smooth, unlike Lu Tingzhou’s cool detachment.
“It’s still early. If you’re free, would you like to grab dinner together?”
Sang Wan nodded. “Sure! My scenes tomorrow are later in the morning, but Senior Xiao, you’ll have a much earlier call time.”
Xiao Yan smiled, the corners of his lips curving into a gentle arc, the epitome of a refined nobleman.
“Even though I’m three years older than you and debuted earlier, you keep calling me ‘Senior Xiao’, it makes me feel old.”
Sang Wan bit her lip and chuckled. “Xiao Yan, I’ll call you by your name from now on. Just don’t say I’m being disrespectful.”
Xiao Yan laughed. During script readings, he had already noticed her lively and easygoing nature. After a full day of filming, he found her to be both diligent and resilient, quite the contrast to her delicate appearance.
Lu Tingzhou returned home and habitually lit a cigarette before stepping onto the balcony.
Seeing the darkness across the way, his heart felt hollow.
The entire day had passed without a single message from her, except for the two selfies she had sent him during the morning shoot.
He opened his phone and stared at the message he had reread countless times, biting his lip as a faint smile tugged at his mouth.
Sang Wan: [Thank you, Sugar Daddy, for your generosity, allowing our crew to have such a grand setup. This little lady is deeply grateful.]
Below were two photos. He sent them over and asked if she was tired, but she hadn’t responded to him yet.
…
By the time Sang Wan returned to the villa, it was almost ten o’clock.
She picked up the nightgown on the bed and went to soak in the bathtub.
Perhaps it was due to several days of indulgence without work, but she felt somewhat unaccustomed and exhausted by the end of the day.
After her bath, completely relaxed, she lay on the large bed and finally picked up her phone to check.
Noticing the time of the “Sugar Daddy” reply, she lightly smacked her forehead.
She had been so immersed in the tension of acting alongside Xiao Yan all day that she forgot to check her phone.
Out of guilt, Sang Wan directly video-called Lu Tingzhou.
She swept the long hair in front of her chest behind her, lay on the bed, and leisurely waited for him to answer, her feet playfully kicking in the air.
When the call connected, the man’s handsome features instantly filled the phone screen.
“Dear President Lu, I’m sorry, I was too busy today.”
Lu Tingzhou was in his study handling work at the moment. The soft, sweet sound of Sang Wan’s voice instantly soothed his previously unsettled mood.
But his expression remained cold.
“It’s fine. I’ve been busy too.”
Though he said this, watching the woman on the screen, free of makeup and with glimpses of her bare skin unintentionally revealed, he secretly bit his lip.
Late at night, and she’s teasing him again.
Sang Wan noticed his fleeting lip-bite, and her heart fluttered.
Lu Tingzhou was still more handsome, effortlessly stirring certain impulses and thoughts in her.
In public, he was aloof and noble, untouched by desire.
Yet such a man would only indulge in worldly desires in front of you, this feeling was addictive.
Sang Wan realized that her fondness for him seemed to be growing deeper.
“Are you angry?”
Sang Wan’s beautiful eyes sparkled as she sweetened her voice further.
“Wouldn’t dare,” Lu Tingzhou teased. “Just feeling a little sour inside.”
Sang Wan pressed her lips together, smiling at him. “Then wait till I come back to give you something sweet.”
Lu Tingzhou was utterly enchanted by her smile, though his face remained composed. Off-screen, he lit a cigarette.
Taking a deep drag, he suppressed the heat rising in his chest.
This little fox knew exactly how to tickle a man’s heart.
Lu Tingzhou lifted his gaze, his voice calm. “How sweet are we talking?”
Sang Wan arched a brow, her tone suggestive. “I’m open to anything. It’s just a matter of how sweet President Lu wants it.”
Her slightly lilting tone sent waves of heat through the man’s body.
“Fine. I’ll wait for you to feed it to me.”
The ambiguous phrasing made Sang Wan blush instantly.
Feed him? How? With what?
A flurry of questions painted her mind in shades of crimson.
Even after the call ended, Sang Wan’s face remained flushed.
She mused that when men got flirtatious, women simply couldn’t compete.
The next evening, Shen Yubai organized a gathering.
The private room at Imperial Club was their usual spot.
“Hey, why the sudden urge to take the bait?” Shen Yubai asked curiously.
Song Ze pressed his lips together. “Correction: I’m actively biting the hook.”
“You said I was imbalanced, in need of a woman to harmonize me,” Lu Tingzhou remarked coolly, taking a sip of his drink.
“But looking at you now, it doesn’t seem like you’ve been harmonized. If anything, you seem even more frustrated and imbalanced.”
Song Ze stifled a laugh.
Lu Tingzhou shot him a glance. “You know so much. The doctor hasn’t even said anything.”
Shen Yubai raised a brow. “What about the doctor? He’s got no experience either.”
Being publicly called out for lacking a woman was a blow to any man’s pride, and Song Ze was no exception.
Especially for a man in his early thirties.
Song Ze wasn’t without someone he liked, but that person didn’t like him back.
As a result, over the years, he hadn’t encountered anyone else who caught his fancy.
But now, a serene face surfaced in his mind, one that looked at him with earnestness and focus.
Neither Lu Tingzhou nor Song Ze responded, leaving Shen Yubai as the only one among the three who was carefree and frivolous, changing women as often as he changed clothes.
Song Ze raised his glass and clinked it against Lu Tingzhou’s. “If you miss her, just go see her. It’s not far.”
It wasn’t that Lu Tingzhou didn’t want to go, he just felt it was a bit awkward. She had just left, and if he followed right after, it would seem like he couldn’t let go of his pride.
He was torn.
Shen Yubai smirked. “Borther Lu, look at you now. Where’s all that bravado from before?”
“‘Move? How do I move?’ Who was it that said that?”
Fearless, he leaned in with a grin. “Hey, if you really don’t know how, I can send you some good stuff to learn from.”
Lu Tingzhou shot him a glare and snapped coldly, “Get lost.”
Seeing him flush with anger, Shen Yubai only laughed more shamelessly.
…
The next afternoon, after finishing a scene, Sang Wan was heading back to the makeup room for touch-ups when she saw Qi Qi and Bai Wei approaching her with mysterious expressions.
“Go get your makeup done. Hurry,” Bai Wei urged.
Sang Wan eyed them suspiciously. “Why are you two so worked up over a touch-up?”
Qi Qi smiled. “We’re not worked up. What’s there for us to be worked up about?”
The more she looked at them, the more she felt something was off. Puzzled, she walked into her dressing room.
The moment Sang Wan pushed the door open, a strong hand yanked her inside, pinning her against the door.
“Lu Tingzhou?”
Delighted, Sang Wan looked at him, but before she could ask anything, the man’s lips were already on hers.
He kissed her fervently, the hairpin on her head swaying wildly.
After a long, lingering kiss, he finally pulled back slightly, gazing at her flushed face as she caught her breath. His voice was hoarse as he commanded, “Feed me.”
“Huh?”
