- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 11 - Intensely Magnetic
As Sang Wan gazed at those well-defined fingers, a hint of sweetness bloomed in her heart.
When her eyes traveled up to the man’s striking, chiseled features, joy shimmered in her gaze.
Staring at the slight bump on the bridge of his nose, she suddenly recalled an online discussion, men with such noses were said to be both restrained and intensely magnetic, and they were usually… exceptional in certain ways.
Lu Tingzhou glanced at the girl lost in her silly delight and spoke coolly, “Miss Sang, you’re overthinking things. Don’t let acting blur the lines between fiction and reality.”
His indifferent tone made Sang Wan freeze. The excitement on her face dimmed by a third, he was essentially calling her delusional.
Lu Tingzhou pressed his lips together slightly, like a superior condescending to offer patience to someone beneath him.
“First, you deliberately got close to me by endorsing one of Shen Yubai’s mediocre products. I’ll overlook your attempt to latch onto me.”
“Second, you orchestrated an encounter at the equestrian club and got injured. Though it was your own doing, since it happened at my club, I allowed you to leverage the situation as compensation.”
He spoke methodically, indifferent to the growing shadow over the girl’s expression.
“Third, the reason I didn’t leave the hotel immediately was to smoke, and the call to my assistant was made by you. I stepped in because Wang Sheng is loosely connected to the Lu family, and you’re a public figure. If something had happened, it would’ve caused unnecessary complications.”
By now, Sang Wan’s eyes were glistening with unshed tears, her red lips pressed tightly together as if she might burst into tears at any moment.
Lu Tingzhou paused briefly, studying her before rubbing his thumb absently. His cool voice resumed.
“Miss Sang, I’m a businessman. I weigh pros and cons, and I value reputation. From any perspective, you won’t be someone by my side.”
With that, he stood up. Before leaving, he curved his lips slightly. “Apologies, but your attempt to latch onto me failed today. If the food is to your liking, feel free to stay. I’ll take my leave.”
As Sang Wan watched him stride away, her tears finally spilled over, falling in rapid succession.
She cried, then laughed at herself for being so pathetic.
So what if her attempt to reel him in had failed? There was no reason to cry.
Yet the tears wouldn’t stop.
She had already heard the harsh truth over the phone that morning, but her foolish fantasies had clouded her judgment.
Once outside the restaurant, Lu Tingzhou sat in his car and lit a cigarette.
Though he was concerned about her, he feared she might see him. After a couple of drags, he ordered Lin Hao to drive off.
He even added, “Your bonus for this month is revoked.”
Lin Hao slammed on the brakes, catching sight of his boss’s stormy expression in the rearview mirror. Not daring to protest, he slowly accelerated.
Sang Wan slumped over the table for a while, gradually regaining her composure.
She might have failed to hook the man, but revenge was non-negotiable, last night’s incident demanded consequences.
…
Xu Shiming hadn’t gone to the office. Instead, he waited anxiously at home for Sang Wan.
Wang Sheng’s call the previous night had been blunt, if Sang Wan didn’t cut ties with Lu Tingzhou, he would withhold further funding.
Xu Shiming knew three billion wasn’t much, and Sang Wan’s worth far exceeded that.
But the bet agreement Wang Sheng had forced him to sign was about to take effect. If Wang Sheng withdrew funding now, it wouldn’t just be three billion, it would be ten.
He didn’t have ten billion. His 10% stake in Sang Corporation wouldn’t even cover it.
“Mom, Dad, Sang Wan was taken away by President Lu last night and never returned to Jingyuan. Their relationship must be something special. Could she really end up marrying into the Lu family?”
“If that happens, even if I manage to win over Young Master Lu, I’d still have to call her ‘Auntie.’ What kind of mess is that?”
Xu Mingyue couldn’t stand to see Sang Wan doing well. The thought of her getting involved with Lu Tingzhou made her seethe with resentment.
That was a man every woman in Shencheng dreamed of.
Xu Shiming wasn’t worried. “The Lu family won’t accept her. Otherwise, the young master of the Lu family wouldn’t have been introduced to you. Sang Wan has more advantages.”
Hearing her father’s words, Xu Mingyue felt displeased, her temper flaring. Just then, Sang Wan walked in, her high heels clicking sharply against the floor.
As soon as Sang Wan entered, Xu Mingyue stepped forward, ready to hurl a sarcastic remark, but before she could speak, Sang Wan slapped her across the face.
“I tolerated Xu Shiming’s schemes against me, but who the hell do you think you are, daring to plot against me?”
Xu Mingyue was stunned, clutching her cheek in shock as she stared at Sang Wan.
Just as Sang Wan raised her hand to strike again, Lin Lan rushed forward, shielding her daughter with a cry of alarm.
“Wanwan, you’ve gone too far! How could you hit someone the moment you walk in?”
At that moment, Xu Shiming suddenly stepped forward and slapped Sang Wan hard across her left cheek.
Fast, ruthless, and completely unexpected.
Accompanied by a furious roar: “Ungrateful wretch!”
A ringing filled Sang Wan’s ears as she pressed a hand to her stinging cheek. Heavy tears rolled down, splashing onto the floor.
She had been her mother’s treasure, her grandfather’s most cherished.
She had never been struck before. Her mind went blank, as if she had been thrown into a vacuum.
Xu Mingyue quickly recovered, putting on a pitiful act. “Dad, don’t be angry. It’s fine if Sister hit me.”
“Sister, you really shouldn’t have offended Director Wang. Dad has worked so hard for the company. Now that you’re entangled with Lu Tingzhou, aren’t you just making things difficult for Dad?”
Her voice was sickly sweet, each word carefully aimed to strike Xu Shiming’s heart, conveniently omitting any mention of the drugged wine from last night.
Sang Wan slowly lifted her head. Her peach-blossom eyes, brimming with unshed tears, were icy with fury.
“Xu Shiming, this slap severs whatever father-daughter bond we had left.”
Her voice was quiet, not a shout, but the coldness in it sent an inexplicable chill down Xu Shiming’s spine.
But then he thought of Wang Sheng’s threats and the Lu family, and his resolve hardened.
“I hit you to teach you a lesson, stop deluding yourself! Don’t think clinging to Lu Tingzhou will elevate you. He’s just toying with you. Give up on that fantasy.”
Sang Wan suddenly laughed, though the smile never reached her eyes, tinged instead with bitterness and ruthlessness.
“Reality? The reality is that you abandoned the old for the new, let a cuckoo take the nest, and schemed against me at every turn.”
“The reality is her, filthy and despicable, drugging my drink.”
She had come back for revenge, only to be slapped instead. Clenching her teeth, Sang Wan swept her gaze across the room before landing on the golf club propped in the corner.
She walked over slowly, hefting the club in her hand, cold and heavy.
In the next second, she swung it without hesitation, smashing it into the vase filled with fresh flowers.
CRASH!
The deafening sound of shattering glass echoed through the living room.
Everyone froze in shock at the sudden outburst.
“Sang Wan, have you lost your mind?!” Xu Shiming roared, but he didn’t dare step closer, wary of the “weapon” in her hands.
Sang Wan ignored him. She raised the club again and swung it at the gaudy European ornament beside the vase.
BANG!
Shards exploded in all directions.
She swung again and again, as if determined to vent years of pent-up grievances and fury.
The tassels of the crystal chandelier, the oil paintings on the wall, the decorative items on the coffee table, anything Lin Lan had brought into the house became a target for her rage.
In the blink of an eye, the entire living room was reduced to chaos.
Xu Shiming watched the scene unfold, his heart aching with distress, but more than that, he was terrified.
He had never seen Sang Wan like this, calm yet frenzied, carrying a ruthless determination to destroy everything, even at the cost of herself.
“Stop! What the hell are you trying to do?”
Sang Wan ignored them, only halting when exhaustion finally set in. She dragged the golf club toward the people standing in the center of the living room, its metal end screeching sharply against the polished marble floor.
Xu Mingyue panicked and tried to flee, but Sang Wan seized the moment and swung the club straight at her backside.
Not a fatal spot, just perfect for venting frustration and hatred.
“Ahh!”
Xu Mingyue cried out in pain, stumbling and collapsing onto the floor as Lin Lan hurriedly crouched down to check on her.
Sang Wan lifted her cold gaze and turned to Xu Shiming.
Sweat dampened the loose strands of hair at her forehead, her fair cheeks flushed with agitation, but her peach-blossom eyes remained icy and terrifying.
Xu Shiming shuddered under her stare. Just as he was about to speak, Lin Lan tugged at his sleeve, silently urging him to stay composed.
The maid, Aunt Liu, hid in the kitchen, watching the scene unfold, secretly cheering Sang Wan on.
Xu Shiming gritted his teeth, his tone softening, even carrying a hint of pleading.
“Wanwan, Dad… Dad was just too anxious. The company has a project that urgently needs funding. Ever since your grandfather caused that mess, the cash flow has been tight. I’ve been worried sick.”
He was trying to play the family card.
“Stop making a scene. This is, after all, the home you grew up in. If word gets out, it’ll be a joke to outsiders, and it won’t look good for your career either.”
Sang Wan shot him a disdainful glance, her lips curling into a mocking sneer.
“Now you suddenly care about what’s good for me?”
“For the past three years, every single time, you’ve claimed the company was struggling and asked me to understand your difficulties.”
“I believed your lies. No matter how hard things got outside, I never asked you for a single cent.”
Her voice suddenly rose, the suppressed fury no longer held back.
“And what was the result? The company was ‘struggling,’ yet Xu Mingyue’s designer clothes and limited-edition bags kept piling up, one after another.”
“Wasn’t her money from you? She barely scraped through some no-name university with a worthless degree, don’t tell me she earned it herself.”
Every word was like a slap, striking Xu Shiming hard across the face.
He was left speechless, his face alternating between shades of pale and flushed.
Sang Wan took a deep breath, her gaze hardening once more.
“Xu Shiming, I’m your biological daughter. The way you’ve treated me is just laughable.”
Her voice carried a barely detectable tremor, but not a single tear fell.
“If you’re heartless, don’t blame me for being ruthless. This house is worth at least seventy million on the market.”
“It was my mother’s premarital asset, and I’m legally entitled to half of it.”
“Give me thirty million, cash or a check, I don’t care, but I want it now.”
“Otherwise, we’ll settle this in court.”
Xu Shiming stiffened, staring at her in disbelief.
Lin Lan panicked. “Sang Wan, the company isn’t doing well. How could we possibly come up with that much money all at once?”
“You can’t?” Sang Wan let out a silent, cold laugh. “A single bag or piece of jewelry for Xu Mingyue costs hundreds of thousands. Are you joking, Mrs. Xu?”
Xu Shiming looked into Sang Wan’s unyielding eyes and knew she meant business this time.
If this really went to court, not only would he lose the house, but the rift between father and daughter would deepen, and those old foxes on the board would never let him off the hook.
Most likely, Sang Wan would also find out that the majority of the company’s shares were under her name.
“Fine… I’ll give it to you!”
Xu Shiming ground out the words through clenched teeth before retreating to his study to fetch a check.
Sang Wan took the check, scrutinized the amount, and after confirming it was correct, a faint smile finally curled at the corners of her lips.
“From now on, this place has nothing to do with me.”
She stood up and, without another glance at the people in the living room, walked straight toward the door.
Pausing briefly at the entryway, she didn’t turn back.
“I won’t be engaged to Wang Sheng. If I don’t see my grandfather in three days, I’ll sue you for unlawful confinement.”
“Wanwan, without Chairman Wang’s investment, the company’s projects will struggle. According to the gamble agreement, I’d owe him a billion. Your grandfather’s life’s work…”
Sang Wan frowned. So it wasn’t 300 million, it was a billion-dollar crisis.
She didn’t respond. Instead, she pulled open the door and left without looking back.
Securing 300 million in investment in less than a month, it wasn’t impossible, but it wouldn’t be easy either.
She had debuted three years ago, and only after one of her dramas took off last year did she slowly gain her current fame. But 300 million…
Even with the money she had saved and the 30 million from today, the gap was still daunting.
The sunlight was harsh. Sang Wan raised a hand to shield her eyes.
Her fingers clutched the check tightly, the knuckles whitening from the force.
Thirty million, enough to sever whatever meager bond of father-daughter affection had existed between her and Xu Shiming.
Was it worth it?
She didn’t know, and she didn’t much care anymore.
All she felt was a suffocating weight in her chest, like a stone pressing down, making it hard to breathe.
Sang Wan drove aimlessly, and before she knew it, she had arrived at the cemetery on the outskirts of the city.
After parking, she bought a bouquet of daisies and walked step by step toward that familiar spot.
In the photo on the tombstone, her mother smiled gently, serene as ever.
Sang Wan placed the flowers down, her fingertips lightly brushing over her mother’s face in the picture. The cold touch sent a tremor through her heart.
“Mom…”
Her voice cracked as the pent-up grievances and sorrow in her heart burst forth like a flood breaking through a dam.
She wanted to tell her mother how everything that had happened recently had left her struggling to breathe.
