- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 10 - Just an Accident
“Miss Sang,” Lin Hao’s voice was polite and respectful, “Mr. Lu said that last night was merely a chance encounter, and helping you was just a small gesture. There’s no need for you to dwell on it. As for the car, Mr. Lu has no intention of pursuing the matter further.”
Sang Wan’s heart sank little by little. The message was clear, he wanted her to stop clinging to him.
Sure enough, Lin Hao continued, “Mr. Lu also said he hopes to avoid any private interactions with you in the future to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings.”
Avoid private interactions…
Sang Wan’s fingers tightened around her phone, turning pale at the tips. A self-deprecating smile tugged at her lips.
So, he really does look down on me.
Disheartened, Sang Wan took a deep breath and forced herself to sound composed. “I understand. Please convey my thanks to Mr. Lu.”
“I will.”
Lin Hao paused briefly before adding, “Miss Sang, the person behind last night’s incident is likely someone close to you. Please be more careful in the future.”
After hanging up, Sang Wan collapsed back onto the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Lu Tingzhou looked down on her. Her plan to reel him in had failed.
She had thought last night might lead to something substantial, but instead, it marked the end.
Thinking back to the previous evening, Sang Wan frowned. Only two people at the event had a motive to drug her, Wang Sheng and Xu Mingyue.
The one who handed her the drink was Lu Jinxuan. He had no grudge against her and even seemed somewhat intimidated by Lu Tingzhou. Without knowing her relationship with Lu Tingzhou, he had no reason to act.
Beside him was Xu Mingyue. The two had approached her together, accompanied by a waiter.
Sang Wan bit her lip and smiled coldly. It had to be Xu Mingyue.
She quickly got up, and when she saw the neatly arranged clothes in the living room, her nose stung with emotion.
Angry, she dressed and headed straight to the Seaside Holiday Hotel.
Along the way, Xu Shiming called her several times, but she ignored every call.
At the hotel, Qi Qi easily obtained the surveillance footage from the previous night.
Sang Wan sat in the car and watched the video, confirming that it was Xu Mingyue who had summoned the waiter. The waiter had lingered nearby, seemingly waiting for her signal.
Sang Wan smirked. What a well-calculated move, just utterly despicable.
As she was about to close the video, she inadvertently caught a glimpse of the footage from the hotel entrance.
Not far from the hotel, a man sat in his car, silently smoking. Even though his face wasn’t clearly visible, Sang Wan was certain it was Lu Tingzhou.
So, he had never left.
Why had he suddenly turned back? And how had his phone just happened to end up in her bag?
Her mind had been foggy last night, but now it was clear, Lu Tingzhou had deliberately helped her.
At this realization, Sang Wan picked up her phone and sent a message to Shen Yubai.
A faint flicker of excitement stirred in her heart.
Just then, her phone buzzed again.
It was Xu Shiming.
Sang Wan clenched her teeth and answered.
“Sang Wan! You’ve got some nerve! You ruined Director Wang’s birthday banquet last night! Get your ass back here now! Otherwise, you’ll never see your grandfather again!”
Xu Shiming’s furious roar blasted through the phone, making her ears ring.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back. Wait for me at home.”
After hanging up, she realized her hand was aching. Turning it over, she saw she had dug her nails into her palm in her anger.
…
Lu Tingzhou’s office.
The man in the black dress shirt sat poised behind his desk, exuding an air of noble elegance.
Behind the gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes were deep and cool, a stark contrast to the man from last night.
Lin Hao finished his report and studied him, thinking to himself that the woman in question was Sang Wan. Someone like his boss, Lu Tingzhou, aloof and untouchable, would truly only be matched by a delicate flower like her.
Yet, he had been instructed to relay a message telling her to stop bothering him.
“Look into Wang Sheng. Halt all projects related to our company.”
Lin Hao frowned. What was this about? Just moments ago, he had rejected her, and now he wanted revenge, for whom?
Having worked by Lu Tingzhou’s side for years, Lin Hao had some understanding of the man’s temperament. He was absolutely certain that Sang Wan held a special place in his boss’s heart.
Otherwise, why would he keep giving her chances, silently waiting for her in his car?
That phone, there was no way it had just coincidentally fallen into her bag. He had definitely slipped it in himself, then waited outside for a while before claiming it had accidentally ended up in her purse.
Mulling over these thoughts, Lin Hao prepared to leave when Lu Tingzhou spoke again. “What’s the situation with the Sang family?”
“Oh, Xu Shiming has been trying to get involved in Lanqin’s chip project recently, but funding has been a major issue. Wang Sheng has been dangling the West Suburb project in front of him, probably because of this, he wants to participate in Lanqin to make some money.”
“Tell President Luo to find an opportunity to bring Xu Shiming into the fold.”
“Got it. I’ll handle it right away.”
Lin Hao stepped out of the CEO’s office and shook his head at the door. A boss’s heart was as unfathomable as the ocean, you couldn’t afford not to guess, but guessing wrong wasn’t an option either.
He silently resolved to tread carefully whenever Sang Wan was involved from now on.
But what exactly did “find an opportunity” mean?
At eleven, Shen Yubai sent a message saying they should have lunch together, he had something important to discuss. The location was Li Ji Private Kitchen.
Seeing how unusually serious Shen Yubai sounded, Lu Tingzhou agreed and headed over.
When he arrived at their usual private room, there was no sign of Shen Yubai.
Just as he was wondering where he was, a message came through: Shen Yubai’s mother had intercepted him at the company, threatening suicide to force him into a blind date.
Lu Tingzhou regretted his decision. He should have known better than to trust Shen Yubai’s nonsense, what “important matter” could he possibly have?
As he turned to leave, Sang Wan pushed the door open.
“Mr. Lu, what a coincidence! You’re here too? Mind if I join you for lunch?”
Her voice was soft and gentle, completely different from the sultry tone of last night.
Today, Sang Wan’s makeup was fresh and understated, her hair tied into a simple ponytail, dressed in a chic Chanel-style skirt set, adorable and lively.
A far cry from the seductive allure of their previous encounters.
She leaned against the doorframe, her heart fluttering nervously at the sight of Lu Tingzhou again, afraid he might kick her out.
A trace of timidity flickered in her eyes, making her look utterly innocent.
Lu Tingzhou finally understood, Shen Yubai, that traitor.
“Miss Sang, wasn’t my assistant’s message clear enough?”
Sang Wan nodded obediently. “It was, very clear. But there’s one thing I’m still unclear about.”
She stepped closer to Lu Tingzhou, holding out her phone with a look of earnest sincerity.
Lu Tingzhou’s expression darkened when he saw the photo on her screen. Hadn’t Lin Hao said the surveillance footage had been dealt with? How had she gotten this?
“Mr. Lu, if you took your phone last night, why didn’t you leave? Were you waiting for someone?”
Sang Wan looked up at him, her eyes clear and bright, a faint smile curving her lips: pure, guileless.
Lu Tingzhou feigned composure. “Just having a smoke.”
Sang Wan didn’t respond, her gaze fixed on him as if searching for any crack in his facade.
But the man’s cold, stern face remained unreadable.
For a moment, she felt a little dizzy just looking at him.
She was genuinely dizzy, having eaten almost nothing the night before and then being rejected by Lu Tingzhou first thing in the morning.
After that, she went to the hotel to retrieve the video, busy all morning without a bite to eat.
The moment her body swayed, Lu Tingzhou instantly reached out and wrapped an arm around her slender waist to steady her.
Having narrowly avoided disaster, Sang Wan seized the opportunity to cling to his arm. “Thank you, President Lu. I have low blood sugar, could I trouble you for a meal?”
Seeing that she had regained her balance, Lu Tingzhou slowly withdrew his hand and looked down at her. “Didn’t the hotel deliver breakfast to your room?”
Sang Wan shook her head, her large, watery eyes fixed on him pitifully. “They did, but I wasn’t in the mood to eat. After being rejected, I felt like dying, how could I possibly have an appetite?”
Lu Tingzhou pressed his lips together. This little fox was never well-behaved.
Sang Wan took the chance to sit down, curling her lips sweetly. “I’m not picky. I’ll eat whatever you’re having, President Lu.”
Lu Tingzhou: “…”
Within ten minutes, four dishes and a soup were served.
Sang Wan stared at the spread in surprise. How were all these her favorite dishes?
“President Lu, how did you know I love these?”
She blinked her big eyes, gazing expectantly at the refined man beside her.
Lu Tingzhou frowned. He had brought her here before, and she had raved about these four dishes and the fish soup.
“They’re the restaurant’s signature dishes. Everyone likes them.”
His deep voice extinguished the sparkle in Sang Wan’s eyes.
Without looking at her, Lu Tingzhou unfastened the cuffs of his black dress shirt and politely served her some food. “Miss Sang, to avoid any accusations of entrapment, please eat first.”
Sang Wan’s expression dimmed, but the sight of his long, elegant fingers holding the chopsticks inexplicably made her chest tighten.
Whether it was the familiarity of the scene or simply how attractive his hands were, she froze for a moment before parting her red lips.
“Lu Tingzhou, you deliberately helped me last night, didn’t you? Why won’t you admit it?”
“You ‘accidentally’ dropped your phone into my bag because you were worried I’d be waiting outside the hotel, right?”
Lu Tingzhou lifted his gaze, his expression calm. “Do you really want to know?”
Sang Wan nodded eagerly, as obedient as a schoolgirl.
He glanced at her, his tone indifferent. “Finish your meal first. I’ll tell you afterward.”
The faint hint of indulgence in his deep voice made her eyes light up with excitement.
She happily dug in, noticing he hadn’t touched his food yet, and cheerfully served him some dishes.
“President Lu, you should eat too.”
Lu Tingzhou glanced at the grain of rice clinging to the corner of her lips but neither moved nor spoke.
Eager to hear the answer she wanted, Sang Wan continued eating without pause.
In less than ten minutes, she set down her chopsticks. “President Lu, I’m full. Can you tell me now?”
Her bright, sparkling eyes brimmed with anticipation, radiating liveliness.
Lu Tingzhou scanned the table, she had eaten half a bowl of rice and sampled every dish.
Though her appetite was small, like a kitten’s, she was likely about seventy percent full now.
He leisurely adjusted his sleeves, fastening the dark green cufflinks one by one before finally meeting Sang Wan’s gaze, his expression composed.
