Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 48
“Nice, nice! As expected of the person I flirted with.” Shi Wangui didn’t forget to playfully hook her finger under Wen Youren’s chin. “You’ve really made me see you in a new light. A while ago, I was actually worried you’d drift away from my friends and me.”
Wen Youren smiled. “Not at all. I was just a bit busy with some things lately.”
In truth, Wen Youren was aware of her own psychological struggles. She had been quietly pushing herself to communicate more and open her heart to her friends.
“So, will Miss Youren be just as bold when she takes me out tomorrow?”
Tomorrow was the day Wen Youren had promised to introduce Shi Wangui to her friends. Shi Wangui had been counting the days; it was a short window of time, just enough for dinner. But as they say, friends are the family you choose. Both Wen Youren and Shi Wangui had families that were families in name only, so besides each other, friends were their true kin.
Wen Youren replied, “I’ll be whatever you want me to be.”
Sun Yi interrupted, “You should worry more about how the homeroom teacher is going to handle this. Wen Youren, you’ve already been summoned.”
Shi Wangui remarked, “Wen Yiyue won’t show up.” She added, “And neither will Shi Qin.”
Sun Yi pressed, “You think so, but what if the teacher insists on a parent? What then?”
Shi Wangui fiddled with a small pebble, thinking for a moment. “I’ll call my aunt.”
In the past, whenever she got in trouble and needed a parent, she never called Shi Qin; she only called her aunt. Even though she was her aunt, the teacher knew Wen Youren’s mother and Shi Wangui’s father were married, so they were technically one family. Shi Qin might be calculating, but he valued his reputation; very few people knew they hadn’t actually registered their marriage.
“No need.” Wen Youren pulled out her phone. “I’ll call Teacher Wang. She can be here by the afternoon.”
The others were speechless. Had Wen Youren just pulled out her phone in broad daylight? They were on the playground, where the Dean could pop up at any moment. They had just gotten in trouble; was she trying to add fuel to the fire?
Even though the PE teacher had given them free time, it didn’t mean a teacher’s “snitch” or a wandering instructor wouldn’t spot them.
Shi Wangui hissed, “Hey, be careful! Don’t hold your phone so obviously. Even when I was being reckless before, I wouldn’t have dared to do that.”
Wen Youren finished typing quickly and tucked the phone back into her pocket. “It’s fine. If Teacher Wang comes this afternoon, the homeroom teacher won’t feel the need to call the other two and let them know we’re back at school.”
The parents didn’t know they were back yet, and they wanted to keep it that way.
“You have a point,” Shi Wangui admitted. “But won’t Teacher Wang scold you? For ‘betraying’ the parents and getting in trouble?”
Wang Hu added, “Sister Wen is too brave. If I had said those things on stage and got called to the office, my mom would give me a double-team beating once I got home.”
Wen Youren laughed. She used to get called to the office frequently, but Teacher Wang always handled it. Teacher Wang understood her character and knew she wouldn’t cause trouble without a reason. Of course, if it truly was Wen Youren’s fault, Teacher Wang would still punish her. But this time, she was in the right. Teacher Wang allowed for a balance of work and play, and Liang Jie had certainly crossed a line.
“She won’t. Teacher Wang is actually very nice. You’re just scared of her because she assigns homework, gives exams, and uses a pointer to hit people.”
Shi Wangui couldn’t understand—weren’t those exactly the things they should be worried about?
“Stop talking, Liang Jie is coming,” Sun Yi noted sharply, spotting her in the distance. It wasn’t hard; she was easy to recognize.
Shi Wangui propped herself up with her hands and tilted her chin toward Wen Youren. “She’s here for you.”
“Wen Youren, come here for a moment. I have something to tell you,” Liang Jie said, getting straight to the point.
Wen Youren didn’t want to go, but Shi Wangui told her to listen and see what she wanted so they could plan their next move. So, she went.
“By the way, Wanwan, I wanted to ask you something,” Sun Yi said as soon as Wen Youren was out of earshot.
“What is it?”
“How did you fall for Wen Youren? And how did you even know you liked her?”
Wang Hu immediately chimed in, “I want to know too!”
Shi Wangui lowered her head in thought. After a moment, she said, “I feel very safe with her. Like, no matter what I do, I don’t have to worry about the consequences. It just feels very warm.”
That must be what love is, she thought.
Sun Yi kicked Wang Hu. “Turn around, or go play with your friends. This is a ‘girls only’ topic now.”
“Psh,” Wang Hu patted the dust off his pants. He was enjoying the gossip. “I didn’t want to listen anyway.”
Sun Yi scoffed, “Look at him acting tough.”
Liang Jie led Wen Youren to the campus pavilion. “Why did you slander me?”
Wen Youren had seen thick-skinned people before, but this was on another level. “Where exactly did I slander you?”
“The thing about Shi Wangui stealing money… that was my mistake. I didn’t have the facts straight. But Wang Yuyuan was the one who instigated it. Don’t believe her; she’s just jealous of me.”
Since there were few PE classes that period and most people stayed on the field, the pavilion was empty. Liang Jie didn’t bother lowering her voice.
Wen Youren knew exactly what Liang Jie was thinking. “That girl we saw on the playground is a lesbian. I don’t believe you didn’t know that. She told us you said you liked her. But do you actually like girls? You don’t at all.”
Liang Jie went silent. She had thought no one saw them walking together that night. But Wen Youren was wrong; she could like girls.
“No… I do like girls. I like you… I don’t blame you for the misunderstanding today. I’ll go clear it up myself later.”
“Crazy,” Wen Youren turned to leave.
But Liang Jie’s demeanor changed. She grabbed Wen Youren’s arm. “I screenshotted that photo from the confession wall. What’s so good about Shi Wangui? Her grades are terrible. Only the two of us are a proper match.”
Wen Youren wrenched her arm away. “She isn’t a fake like you. You’re not even in her league.”
Seeing Wen Youren give her zero chance, Liang Jie hissed, “You’ll regret this.”
Wen Youren glanced back halfway, said nothing, and kept walking.
Sun Yi whispered, “Wanwan, Wang Hu is gone. Now I have a very private question for you.”
Seeing her acting so sneaky, Shi Wangui followed suit. “What is it?”
“It’s… well… have you and Wen Youren had any ‘physical contact’? Like, how do two girls even do that?”
Shi Wangui: “…”
Her face turned red at a visible speed. At moments like this, she wished she had tanned skin so the blushing wouldn’t be so obvious. And… what did “physical contact” even mean? If it meant kissing, they had kissed three times.
Shi Wangui stammered, “We’ve… we’ve only kissed three times.”
Sun Yi was shocked. “That’s it? You call that a relationship?”
Shi Wangui argued, “…That’s it! What else did you expect? And why isn’t it a relationship? Being together every day—isn’t that exactly what it is?”
Sun Yi couldn’t believe it. “Wait, you two are in the same dorm, together every night, and you lived together for so long before that, but you’ve only kissed three times? Did you use tongues? Dating usually involves some physical desire, right?”
Shi Wangui’s face burned even hotter. “What are you talking about? Tongues? Of course not! We’re still minors. We’re building our emotional bond first. The other stuff can wait.”
Sun Yi sighed, “I guess there’s no tea here. You guys are too pure.”
Shi Wangui, who had been feeling shy, suddenly turned pale at Sun Yi’s words. “You didn’t… do that with Xu Qingnan, did you?”
“Ugh,” Sun Yi looked disgusted. “Of course not. I value that too much; I’ll only give it to someone I can truly trust.” She added, “But still, three times in several months? Sometimes people do it three times in one day.”
Shi Wangui replied, “Wen Youren never mentioned anything. Every time it’s just a light touch, and then it’s over.”
Sun Yi laughed. “Don’t worry. When we go back, I’ll give you a book to read. You look small, but your mind really is like an elementary schooler’s.”
“What book?” Wen Youren returned, catching the two least book-loving people discussing literature.
“Nothing!” Shi Wangui shouted excitedly, grabbing Wen Youren’s arm. “Are we eating dinner before we meet your friends, or just going straight there?”
Wen Youren smiled. “We can go straight there. They’ll have already ordered the food.”
“Great!”
Under Shi Wangui’s expectant gaze, they endured Teacher Wang’s lecture, the homeroom teacher’s guidance, and the curiosity of their classmates until school finally let out.
After the bell rang, Shi Wangui stared into a mirror, fussing with her hair. “Should I go back and change my clothes?” She was wearing a black cotton jacket shaped like a puffer coat with white pants. It made her look short and cute.
“It’s fine, no need to change. And don’t worry about your hair; it’ll get messy in a bit anyway.”
“Huh?”
“They’re here. Let’s go.”
“Mhm, okay.” Shi Wangui put down the mirror and followed Wen Youren out the gate.
Wen Youren’s friends were waiting at the entrance. The moment one saw Shi Wangui, she teased, “So small? Is she even 15? Wen Youren, if you’re not going to be a nun, at least don’t go kidnapping children.”
Shi Wangui said helplessly, “I’m 16.”
Wen Youren’s friends were indeed mature. There were three of them: one with reddish hair and heavy makeup who looked like a college student; another with seven or eight piercings in her ears that jingled as she moved; and a third who looked more steady, with a sharp short haircut and a black leather jacket, appearing unfazed by the cold.
Wen Youren pulled Shi Wangui behind her. “Don’t talk nonsense.”
The girl with red hair introduced herself, “My, how protective! I’m Wang Yuwen. Short hair here is Song Yulin, and the one with long hair is Yuan Yiqi.”
Shi Wangui smiled. “Hello, I’m Shi Wangui.”
Yuan Yiqi laughed. “We’ve known that since day one.”
Song Yulin didn’t say much, but she tossed a set of keys to Wen Youren. “We brought your motorcycle over. Take her to eat.”
Wen Youren caught the keys. “Thanks.”
Shi Wangui was stunned. “You know how to ride a motorcycle?”
Wen Youren nodded. “That’s why I told you not to worry about your hair. Let’s go. You’re the first girl I’ve ever given a ride to.”
Shi Wangui cheered, “Let’s go!”
