- Chapter 2 - This is My Immortal Companion
Lan Wangji threw out Bichen, but it was abruptly repelled. This was a situation he had never encountered before; in this entire cultivation world, he had never heard of a figure so powerful that they could strike Bichen back with such ease.
Lan Wangji immediately waved his hand to summon the Wangji Qin. Yet, before he could exert any power, the Wangji Qin was forced back into its sleeve. Lan Wangji’s expression grew cold to the extreme. Just what kind of sacred being was this? In front of them, Bichen and the Wangji Qin did not even have the opportunity to release their power.
Wei Wuxian quickly stepped forward and asked, “Lan Zhan, are you alright?”
Lan Wangji replied, “I am fine.”
Wei Wuxian wanted to say something more, but he suddenly saw a youth appear ahead. The youth’s clothes were redder than maple leaves and his skin was as white as snow; he sat leisurely atop a hill, smiling and waving at them.
Though he was smiling, the expression was not one of genuine sincerity. Rather, it was the kind of smile that made one’s skin crawl. Wei Wuxian felt that Lan Wangji’s face was usually “frosty” enough, but that was simply because he never smiled and always kept a stoic countenance. The person before them, however, was clearly smiling, yet he radiated an even more bone-chilling aura of frost.
It seemed this was the opponent they had encountered. In front of him, the two of them stood no chance of victory; their spiritual power and magical treasures were completely suppressed. Curiously, no such figure had ever been heard of in the cultivation world.
Wei Wuxian asked, “Lan Zhan, have you ever heard of someone this powerful?”
Lan Wangji replied, “Never.”
Wei Wuxian gave a bitter smile and said, “Lan Zhan, it seems you and I may find it difficult to leave here alive today. I’ve ended up involving you. We only just managed to be together with great difficulty; I still have so many things I want to say to you, and so many things I want to do with you.”
Lan Wangji firmly grasped Wei Wuxian’s hand and said, “Wei Ying, I am with you.”
Just as the two were about to share a confession that felt like a final parting between the living and the dead, a Taoist priest in white suddenly appeared and walked over to the side of the red-clad youth.
The white-clad Taoist gave a gentle smile and said to the youth in red, “San Lang, stop messing around.”
The red-clad youth nodded obediently and said, “Mn, I’ll listen to Gege.” He then leapt down from the hilltop and stood beside the white-clad Taoist with his hands behind his back.
The two strolled leisurely toward Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. The youth in red exuded a cold aura—different from Lan Wangji’s ethereal, aloof coldness—while the white-clad Taoist possessed a gentle and kind demeanor, carrying the air of a true immortal.
Wei Wuxian cupped his hands in greeting. “May I ask what sacred beings you two are?”
Lan Wangji stood pressed tightly against Wei Wuxian’s side, his hand gripping Bichen firmly as he watched the approaching pair with vigilance.
The white-clad Taoist smiled and said, “Fellow cultivators, please do not misunderstand. We are not bad people; there is no need for this.”
Lan Wangji stared coldly at the red-clad youth without speaking.
The white-clad Taoist said to Lan Wangji, “Fellow cultivator, you needn’t look at him that way. San Lang is merely a bit mischievous; he means no malice.”
The red-clad youth remarked, “You should know by now that your sword is like scrap metal in my presence.”
The white-clad Taoist countered, “Alright, San Lang, stop scaring them.”
The red-clad youth curled his lip, nodded obediently, and shut his mouth.
Wei Wuxian asked, “Who exactly are you two? Why are you causing trouble in this place?”
Hearing this, the white-clad Taoist was taken aback, then gave a slight smile. “This fellow cultivator must have misunderstood. The two of us are not causing trouble here; we simply received a prayer and came to handle the matter.”
Wei Wuxian asked in surprise, “A prayer?”
The white-clad Taoist nodded. “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian continued, “May I ask who you are, Daozhang? And as for the one beside you… I fear he is not a living person? Yet he does not seem like a fierce corpse either.”
The white-clad Taoist glanced at the red-clad youth beside him and said tenderly, “This is my immortal companion.”
Wei Wuxian’s mouth dropped open in shock. “Immortal companion?”
The white-clad Taoist smiled and said, “Indeed. And as I observe the two of you, your relationship is quite deep as well, is it not?”
