Future's First Marriage, Later Love - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Polack finished listening, retracted his gaze, and calmly took a sip of his coffee without adding anything.
He then looked at the breakfast on the table, first picking up a fried egg and placing it on his plate. Seeing that the color looked good, he took a bite. The fragrance of the fried egg slowly spread through his mouth, and he couldn’t help but look up at Mai Hai.
Watching Polack’s movements, Mai Hai was still quite nervous, and the hand holding his toast trembled slightly. He asked with some anticipation, “How is it?”
Polack took another bite: “It’s alright.”
Those two simple words finally allowed the stone hanging in Mai Hai’s heart to drop. Thank goodness, thank goodness. After all, the laws were right there, and Polack was a General. If he became unhappy and divorced him, or sued him for some crime in court, wouldn’t he die an untimely death? Although the “rear” virginity crisis was temporarily averted, he still had to serve this “lord” well until those idiots found him. He kindly placed a piece of toast on Polack’s plate and said with a smile, “Then try this too.”
Polack nodded and gave him face by taking a bite.
Then, neither of them spoke, and they finished breakfast in a quiet, relatively warm atmosphere. After Polack finished eating, he naturally stood up and went to the living room, and Mai Hai conscientiously began to clear up.
Once everything was tidy, Mai Hai had no choice but to brace himself and walk to the living room sofa, sitting down a short distance away from Polack. To be honest, Mai Hai wasn’t used to living under the same roof with someone—or rather, he wasn’t used to someone living with him under the title of his “other half.”
“Where do you want to go for our honeymoon?” Polack, holding a newspaper, suddenly asked.
Mai Hai froze for a moment, then said, “Wherever. You decide.”
Polack put down the magazine and looked at Mai Hai: “Why is it ‘wherever’ again? You have no initiative at all.”
Mai Hai gave a couple of dry laughs and thought speechlessly: Big brother, even if I said something, what’s the point… You’ll go wherever you want to go, so why bother asking me?
“Stay here on Planet Juhua, or should I take you to see other planets?” Polack continued to ask.
This time, Mai Hai had to feign excitement and said, “How about we go to Planet Pandora?”
“No.” After listening, Polack frowned and refused outright.
Mai Hai thought guiltily: Is it because my identity has been exposed? Is Polack afraid his wife will run away, so he said that?
“Planet Pandora hasn’t established diplomatic relations with us yet, so there’s no way,” Polack explained, seeing Mai Hai’s expression and fearing he might overthink it.
Mai Hai gave Polack a smile and said nonchalantly, “It’s fine, you decide.”
“Then I’ll take you to Earth Village,” Polack said in a tone that sounded like a question but was actually an assertion.
Mai Hai smiled and agreed, afraid that if he displeased Polack, the man would start “bristling” again. His time with Polack hadn’t been long, but Mai Hai had already figured out about eighty or ninety percent of his personality—he was very much like a proud cheetah; as long as you stroked his fur the right way, there was basically no danger.
Furthermore, in this typical “Husband-is-Heaven” society of Planet Juhua, Mai Hai was still wondering how to get Polack to agree to let him keep working. Without Polack’s letter of consent, his company definitely wouldn’t continue to employ him.
As the saying goes, “one must bow one’s head when under another’s eaves.” Facing Polack, Mai Hai’s face almost cramped from smiling. If Polack wanted water, Mai Hai immediately got up to help him; if Polack wanted an apple, Mai Hai immediately went to peel it; if Polack wanted to go to the toilet, Mai Hai nearly went to help him pull down his pants…
Economic foundations determine the superstructure. Polack’s attitude toward Mai Hai was lukewarm. If one day the next person matching Polack’s attribute appeared—someone young and beautiful, unlike him who was six years older than Polack—and a “Qiong Yao” melodrama ensued, Mai Hai couldn’t imagine how he would survive without a source of income after being kicked out.
Polack looked at his new wife’s fawning attitude with complete disdain, but he was secretly quite proud. After all, this was an affirmation of his own charm.
After finalizing the itinerary, they decided to go out and buy honeymoon essentials and handle the visas. But while applying for the visa, Polack discovered that Mai Hai’s birth records were blank. How had he been so careless not to notice this at first? This meant Mai Hai’s visa couldn’t be processed.
“Why is it like this?” Back at home, Polack asked Mai Hai irritably.
Mai Hai roared in his heart: Big brother, do you think I want it to be like this?! Am I supposed to say I’m the First Prince of Planet Pandora? Would anyone believe me! Even if they did, what if something else happens?! Of course, this series of roars only existed in Mai Hai’s mind. In reality, he looked at Polack with an innocent face: “I don’t know, I don’t remember any of those things.”
Looking at Mai Hai’s innocent expression, Polack couldn’t vent his anger. He gave a cold snort: “I see. What a massive pain.”
Honeymoon Trip (Part 2)
After Polack used his connections to refill the blank parts of Mai Hai’s records and finished processing the passport, they were at the spaceship departure hall handling formalities when Polack suddenly received a secret order. He was to rush back to the base immediately; something big seemed to have happened there.
On a bench in the departure hall, Polack looked at Mai Hai and asked in a deep voice, “I must return to the base now. You can choose to continue the trip—but you must call me every night to report—or we go home now and go next time.”
Mai Hai thought about it and said, “It’s okay. You go ahead and handle your business. I’ll just play by myself. If you want anything, I can bring it back for you.”
“En.” Polack nodded hurriedly and continued, “My portion of the luggage will be sent directly home. Remember to sign for it when you return from your trip.”
“Okay.” Mai Hai nodded obediently, first seeing Polack to the car at the entrance of the departure hall and waving goodbye.
Returning to the hall in a great mood, Mai Hai felt the area seemed much brighter—perhaps because his mindset had changed. When he was with Polack, he always felt a bit oppressed; Polack was always stern and unsmiling, while Mai Hai loved to laugh, so their “auras” felt completely mismatched.
Having traveled on spaceships countless times when he was on Planet Pandora after transmigrating, this was the first time he was traveling alone, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of novelty. After exchanging his boarding pass, Mai Hai prepared to board. Since his luggage was checked, he only carried a small black single-shoulder cloth bag. He wore a light-colored casual outfit and large sunglasses that covered half his face as he stood in the hall.
After waiting for a few minutes, he heard the broadcast: “Passengers traveling to the Egypt region of Earth Village, please prepare to board. Please put on your boarding suits and board in order.” Following the signs, Mai Hai queued up and walked through an arched hatch. With the help of a stewardess, he put on a white, puffy-looking garment. Then, the stewardess at the exit used a special instrument to put a mark on everyone’s arm.
For Mai Hai, this was a brand-new and special experience. After all, when he first crossed into this future world, as the First Prince of a nation, he didn’t have much freedom to experience the world. Now, he could take this time to have a good look.
The spaceship was different from the ones he usually took when visiting small planets. Those ships were huge and had almost everything. This one looked more like an airplane cabin; the only difference was that there were oxygen tanks and headgear next to the seats.
Mai Hai found his seat with his bag. He was lucky to have a window seat. Thinking this, he walked to his seat and placed his bag in the luggage groove specifically designed for it. Suddenly, a blue light appeared over the groove. Curious, Mai Hai put his hand over it, and the blue light disappeared instantly. Then, Mai Hai took a pen from his person and put it there; the blue light over the groove didn’t change at all.
It seemed this was the so-called identification system. Truly high-tech. Mai Hai was full of curiosity and anticipation for this trip.
After stowing his pen, he sat down obediently and took out a special feature magazine about Egypt from the metal rack on the cabin wall to browse.
As the hatch was about to close, Mai Hai looked up from the book. Seeing a tall man carrying a large hiking backpack walking toward him from the hatch, he couldn’t help but feel nervous. He’s not going to sit here, is he? Mai Hai, who had just been celebrating having no one next to him, was now feeling a bit annoyed.
The man carrying the large bag stopped in front of Mai Hai, secured the bulging backpack on the rack above the seat, then looked at Mai Hai, took off his sunglasses, and greeted him with a smile: “Hi, hello.”
Although somewhat reluctant, Mai Hai also smiled and said, “Hello.”
The man sat down in the seat next to Mai Hai and said, “Have you ever been to Egypt?”
Mai Hai wasn’t usually comfortable talking to strangers, but seeing the man’s enthusiastic manner, he gradually let down his guard. It seemed that having someone to talk to on the journey wouldn’t be a bad thing.
“No.” Mai Hai shook his head gently.
An excited and yearning light sparkled in the man’s eyes: “Are you going for a trip this time?”
“En, I suppose so.” Mai Hai said in his heart: It’s just that it’s a honeymoon trip by myself.
