Future's First Marriage, Later Love - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
After a moment, he nodded reluctantly with a frown and said, “Alright then.”
Originally, Mai Hai wasn’t much of a talker, Pollack was a man of few words, and Finael was even more so. Fortunately, Kedexin, Chris, and Spinai were all very sociable, so the atmosphere didn’t become too awkward. Since there was still a long time before dinner, someone suggested playing a game.
As for what game to play, the group couldn’t agree. Finally, they decided on the simplest one: Truth or Dare. The referee would be the smart robot that Kedexin carried with him.
The little smart robot Kedexin carried was called “Bibabo.” It was very delicate and good-looking. Mai Hai looked at Bibabo curiously, which reminded him of a brand of bubble gum back on Earth before he traveled through time. He asked Kedexin, “Why did you give him such a name?”
Kedexin poked the little robot’s stomach. As a result, the little robot clutched its belly and let out “Bi-ba-bo” groans from its mouth. He looked at Mai Hai and said, “There, because when Pollack made it, he added senses to it. I thought it was fun.”
“Pollack made this?” Mai Hai looked at Pollack in surprise.
Pollack turned his head to the side and ignored Mai Hai.
Chris, however, looked at Mai Hai as if he were making a fuss over nothing and said, “Don’t you know? The core chips of all our robots were made by Pollack. Pollack is an expert at making these.”
“Haha, I really didn’t know,” Mai Hai said.
He wondered if he should ask Pollack to make one for him when they got back. Mai Hai had been eyeing smart little robots for a long time; every time he went out and saw everyone carrying one, his heart felt an itch of desire.
The rules of the game were as follows: the smart robot would turn off its senses, and after being automatically wound up, it would circle around their table. Whoever it stopped behind would be the “Ghost.” The little robot would then continue to spin, and when it stopped a second time, the Ghost could ask that person a question. If the person couldn’t answer, they had to choose a punishment: Truth or Dare. If the person answered correctly, the Ghost would be punished, but they could only choose a Dare.
When the game started, the little robot circled quickly behind them. Soon, it stopped behind Kedexin. He looked at everyone with a beaming smile.
Quickly, Bibabo started its high-speed rotation again. Immediately after, it stopped behind Mai Hai. Kedexin thought for a moment and asked Mai Hai, “How many moles does Pollack have on his chest?”
Mai Hai looked at Kedexin helplessly, while Spinai and Chris were laughing so hard they were nearly gasping for air. He thought for a bit and said, “One.”
Kedexin shook his head and said, “Incorrect. There should be none. Do you choose a Dare or…?”
Mai Hai said, “A Dare.”
Hearing this, Pollack looked at Mai Hai with a sour face. He knew that Kedexin and the others loved to punish people with drinking, and if Mai Hai drank, he would start acting very strangely…
Sure enough, Kedexin smilingly had the waiter bring two crates of a peculiar wine unique to the Giant Planet. He opened a bottle for Mai Hai and said, “Finish this bottle.”
“This…” Mai Hai looked at the large bottle of wine, wondering how to avoid it.
But Kedexin clearly didn’t intend to let Mai Hai off, leaving no room for negotiation: “No can do.”
Pollack couldn’t stand it anymore and spoke up, “I’ll drink this bottle for him.”
“No way, Little Spinach. It’s a game; you’re breaking the rules like this!” Chris said.
Mai Hai had no choice but to take the bottle. Just as he was about to tilt his head back and drink it all, Pollack snatched the bottle from his hand and drank it all down. Then he said, “He’s allergic to alcohol. I’ll substitute for him.”
Seeing Pollack like this, Kedexin and the others didn’t say much more. However, Finael spoke up at this moment, “Pollack, since you violated the game rules, shouldn’t the punishment be doubled?”
He originally thought Pollack would refuse, but to his surprise, Pollack didn’t say a word. He took another bottle out of the crate, tilted his head back, and finished it in one breath. Then he looked at them and asked, “Is this acceptable?”
Everyone laughed, and the game continued. But for some reason today, Mai Hai seemed possessed by the god of misfortune; he kept losing. Consequently, Pollack kept drinking continuously. Seeing Pollack’s attitude toward Mai Hai, Finael gritted his teeth in hatred, but there was nothing he could do.
In the end, almost all the wine in those crates was finished by Pollack. Although his alcohol tolerance was quite good, he couldn’t handle being tossed around like this. They played for a long time, nearly until dinner time, but Pollack was already drunk. So Mai Hai asked Kedexin and the others to stay for dinner while he took Pollack home.
Finael watched Mai Hai support Pollack as they walked out. Refusing to give up, he wanted to follow. He had known Pollack for so long, but he had never seen Pollack drunk. Today was definitely a good opportunity. He knew Pollack was the responsible type; if something happened between them, Pollack would certainly not ignore it. It was just that there was a troublesome person next to him; he had to find a way to get him away.
A person blinded by love has zero EQ; Finael completely ignored the fact that legally, Mai Hai was Pollack’s legitimate partner. Kedexin and the others could naturally see Finael’s intentions, so they stopped him before he could chase after them.
After moving out of everyone’s sight, Mai Hai supported Pollack and sat him down on a multi-functional chair by the roadside. Then he hailed a small spaceship. Immediately following that, he picked Pollack up horizontally, placed him in the spaceship, and gave the driver his home address.
After the Grounding
Mai Hai carried Pollack into the master bedroom upstairs. Immediately after, he went to the kitchen to pour some sobering juice and fed it to Pollack. Just as he was putting the cup aside, he was suddenly and violently pulled onto the bed by Pollack. Mai Hai looked at Pollack, who was pressing down on him with a breath smelling of alcohol, and pushed him, saying, “You’re heavy, get up.”
A drunk Pollack had no reason to speak of. He didn’t listen to Mai Hai’s words at all and began to kiss and bite him. Mai Hai muttered helplessly, “You can’t blame me for this.”
Immediately after, he swung his fist and hit Pollack in the face. With this blow from Mai Hai, Pollack was knocked into the cabinet behind him.
He gave a muffled groan and actually fell into a deep sleep. Mai Hai tidied his clothes, which had been torn open by Pollack earlier. Looking at the bruised and deeply sleeping Pollack, he sighed helplessly, then moved him onto the bed. After stripping his clothes, he covered him with the quilt. He then took a towel and a basin of water to clean Pollack’s bruised face and applied some medicine.
Afterward, Mai Hai took a shower, put on his pajamas, and went downstairs to the kitchen to make something to eat. After turning on the TV, he boredly found a channel about planetary trivia to watch while he ate…
After eating, he tidied up a bit and then began to draft a document. He decided that as soon as a suitable opportunity arose, he would take it out and have Pollack sign it, so he could escape being a professional house husband.
When Mai Hai went to sleep that night, Pollack still hadn’t woken up. Mai Hai climbed into bed and naturally used Pollack as a pillow, leaning satisfied against his chest to sleep.
The next day, before Pollack woke up, Mai Hai had gone down early to cook. Pollack got up to shower and saw a purple bruise on his face in the mirror. He confusedly searched his memory for what happened yesterday, but found it useless. After a quick shower, Pollack went downstairs to ask Mai Hai, who was just finishing his breakfast: “What’s the deal with this on my face?”
“Oh, you were drunk yesterday and ran into something yourself.” Mai Hai said with a straight face, lying through his teeth without blushing.
Pollack muttered to himself suspiciously, ” I remember my behavior while drinking was quite decent.”
Mai Hai kept his head down eating breakfast and didn’t speak. Pollack looked at him suspiciously and said, “It wasn’t you who hit me, was it?”
“No,” Mai Hai firmly denied.
Pollack sat down and began to eat breakfast. Although he still felt a bit strange in his heart, since Mai Hai said so, he believed it.
After breakfast, Mai Hai helped Pollack apply medicine. Then Pollack asked again, “Did you bring me home by yourself yesterday?”
Mai Hai shook his head and said, “I asked the spaceship driver for help.”
“Oh.” Pollack nodded. “I thought so; your strength isn’t that great.”
Mai Hai said nothing, which served as a tacit agreement. Once the medicine was applied, Pollack asked Mai Hai again, “That person you were chatting with yesterday, how do you two know each other?”
Mai Hai said, “Well, he’s a former colleague.”
“Colleague?” Pollack clearly didn’t believe it. “I saw you two chatting very happily.”
Mai Hai put away the medicine box and asked, “Was it?”
Pollack snorted and didn’t continue the topic. Mai Hai felt the timing should be right, so he took out the agreement he had drafted last night and said to Pollack, “Take a look at this.”
Pollack didn’t take it but looked at Mai Hai and asked, “What is this?”
“You’ll know once you look at it,” Mai Hai said.
Pollack took it, read two lines, and threw the agreement onto the coffee table. With a dark face, he asked Mai Hai, “Do you think I can’t afford to support you?”
“That’s not what I mean,” Mai Hai said. “I have nothing to do staying at home every day. Besides, I quite liked my previous job.”
After hearing Mai Hai’s explanation, Pollack’s expression improved slightly: “I’ll think about it…”
