Future's First Marriage, Later Love - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Mai Hai walked into the church feeling somewhat apprehensive. He was rendered speechless by the series of events that had recently occurred to him.
He had originally been living a good life in the 21st century. Having just graduated from university, through his own efforts and those of his parents, he passed the civil service exam. Under his family’s arrangements, he went on a blind date; the other party’s family background matched his, and she was good-looking with a nice personality. After their first meeting, they felt compatible and established a romantic relationship…
Just as life was charging toward a beautiful future, he suddenly crossed over (transmigrated) without any warning or reason?!
Furthermore, he had crossed over to a place called Planet Pandora. Most fatally, it seemed he had traveled to a future world. If he had crossed to ancient times, he could at least use his modern knowledge to achieve something, but in this future world—which would be the year 3011 AD by Earth’s calendar—what could he do?!
Fortunately, his luck wasn’t entirely bad. He had crossed into the body of the fifteen-year-old First Prince of Planet Pandora. At least he didn’t have to worry about food or clothing, or dying of cold or hunger. This could be considered a blessing among misfortunes, but…
After crossing over, he had to begin learning all kinds of knowledge. Those things were completely foreign to him. With his level of education, if he had traveled to the past, he would have been considered a scholar; however, placed in the future world, he was essentially illiterate.
Luckily, Mai Hai’s IQ was fine, and he was quite diligent in his studies. After some time, he managed to adapt to life on Planet Pandora.
Ten-odd years passed in a flash. Just as he had accepted the reality of his transmigration, stopped thinking all day about how to cross back to the 21st century, and thought he could continue living in this future world…
Something unexpected happened. He was aboard the spaceship P2568, representing Planet Pandora on a visit to Earth Village. The purpose was to establish diplomatic relations, but in addition to that, an important reason was to visit his fiancée and nurture their relationship.
Supposedly, this fiancée had been jointly selected by his teacher, Tofler, and the highest military commander of Pandora, Nesbitt.
He once doubted: how good could a person chosen by these two distorted personalities actually be?
Although Tofler was the mentor to the heir apparent, Mai Hai always felt he was too long-winded. He must have been Tang Sanzang in his past life; otherwise, how could he be wordy to that extent?
Nesbitt was even more beyond words. He looked cold and icy, but in reality, he often performed actions that made Mai Hai shudder. For example, while Mai Hai was sleeping in his quarters, Nesbitt—entrusted by the King—was supposed to give Mai Hai some minor military documents to handle. The way he woke Mai Hai up was something Mai Hai truly couldn’t compliment…
No matter what kind of lock Mai Hai used to secure his door—smart locks, fingerprint locks, password locks… he even used traditional large iron padlocks—it was useless. Nesbitt was truly worthy of being Pandora’s top military commander; he could still open the door with ease, walk to Mai Hai’s bedside, and say in a voice so gentle it made one’s bones go soft: “Little Mai, do you intend to get up now, hmm?”
Every time Mai Hai heard Nesbitt’s voice, he would immediately jump out of bed, move swiftly to put on his pajamas, and rush into the dressing room.
The visit to Earth Village went very smoothly. This time, a contract was signed with Earth Village, and Mai Hai also met his legendary fiancée. There wasn’t any special feeling; the two were polite enough, but lacked passion.
Originally, as Mai Hai sat on the spaceship flying back to Planet Pandora, he thought this mission had been completed successfully. Who could have predicted that “the sky has unpredictable clouds and man has sudden misfortunes”? The spaceship encountered a problem mid-journey. The accompanying pilot immediately adopted emergency protocols, hung a stone around Mai Hai’s neck, and pushed him off the ship.
Then, Mai Hai fainted and knew nothing more. When he woke up, he was in a place called Planet Juhua (Giant).
Opening his eyes, the first person Mai Hai saw was a beautiful man with long purple hair and green eyes. His well-defined fingers were peeling a fruit Mai Hai had never seen before. From his mouth, he learned that this beautiful man’s name was Spinai. Mai Hai had fainted by the roadside just as Spinai was passing by, and thus was saved.
Later, Spinai secretly told Mai Hai that he was also from Planet Pandora. He realized Mai Hai was also from Pandora because he saw the stone on Mai Hai’s chest. He even took out a stone of similar size to Mai Hai’s; only then did Mai Hai believe Spinai’s words. According to Tofler’s previous explanation, these stones were only held by officials of Planet Pandora. The stone was a secret of Pandora, possessing the function of evading magnetic fields on other planets; therefore, if it accidentally fell into illegal hands, it could lead to incidents like smuggling.
For instance, Spinai had smuggled himself to this planet to hide from a certain someone. He told Mai Hai that this planet was called Juhua.
Planet Juhua reproduces according to “attributes.” Regardless of whether they are male or female, every member of society must undergo an attribute test upon reaching the age of twenty. Those with the “Yang” attribute are the husbands, and those with the “Yin” attribute are the wives.
Of course, there are exceptions; for example, some officials, generals, and nobles privileged figures—undergo attribute testing at eighteen or even earlier.
After attributes are determined, the data is stored in hospital archives. When a matching attribute is found, the hospital contacts the Yang party and has them come to look. If they are satisfied, they take the attribute match form to find the Yin party. If they do not like them, the Yin party is blacklisted and remains lonely for life, while the Yang party can continue waiting for the next matching wife to appear…
This is a planet of absolute patriarchal supremacy. Spinai helped Mai Hai forge his records. Because Mai Hai’s actual age after transmigrating was eight years older than the age for attribute testing, Spinai changed Mai Hai’s age from twenty-eight to twenty. Mai Hai was somewhat speechless, thinking he had to “act tender” despite being up there in years, but Spinai thought nothing of it. He felt that although Mai Hai’s face wasn’t considered beautiful, it certainly qualified as “cute,” plus his skin was well-maintained, so he didn’t look like an “uncle” nearing thirty at all.
Initially, Mai Hai wanted to get in touch with Planet Pandora, but Spinai said Juhua’s radio wave system was very powerful and warned him not to act rashly—the fact that he hadn’t been discovered yet was already a stroke of “dog-shit luck” (extreme luck).
Mai Hai thought about it and felt he was indeed being too hasty. So, he followed Spinai’s suggestion, stayed there, and found a job as a company clerk. Life was considered stable. But suddenly one day, a man named Polack suddenly found him holding an attribute match form, telling Mai Hai that their attributes matched and Mai Hai had to marry him.
Mai Hai was instantly speechless. His result during the hospital test was “Yin,” but at that time, they hadn’t found any attribute in the database that matched his. In other words, he shouldn’t have had a husband; this was the only thing Mai Hai felt worth celebrating.
Now he only prayed that those idiots would quickly discover his location and come fetch him, saving him from having to worry about his “rear chastity” every day. But things went against his wishes… This time, Tofler hadn’t followed him the whole way, and such a thing happened. Mai Hai couldn’t help but begin to miss him.
Looking at the tall and handsome man in front of him, Mai Hai didn’t know whether to be happy or sad. Through their introductions, Mai Hai learned that the person before him was a high-ranking officer in Juhua’s army, one of the Ten Generals.
He obediently agreed. You could say he lacked backbone, but even if he were unwilling, he couldn’t resist—this was a mandatory obligation under the laws of Planet Juhua. When he saw that man, Mai Hai’s mind couldn’t help but recall Spinai’s detailed, spit-flying descriptions, so he subconsciously nodded.
Here, love seemed to be an unnecessary thing, because only people with matching attributes could live together.
Even if his current identity was the First Prince of Planet Pandora, on Juhua his influence was thin, and he could only comply. His only remaining solace was to pray that before he got married, his teacher Tofler would find him and take him away from this damned place.
However, his wish did not come true. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be standing here now like an idiot, wearing a white suit, holding a few calla lilies, slowly walking into the church preparing to hold some damned wedding. Looking at the church filled with people, and the priest standing at the very front, as well as the handsome man in a black suit next to the priest—who was actually ten years younger than him but 4 centimeters taller—Mai Hai felt a burst of…
