- Chapter 68 - First Friends, Then Siblings, Finally Becoming My Darling
“Are you insane, Gu Shi?”
A delicate voice carried a hint of anger.
Murphy’s Law was in full effect, the more you didn’t want something to happen, the more likely it was to occur.
Gu Shi watched Meng Ruo holding onto another man’s arm, his heart filled with even more regret. He opened his mouth to explain, “Ruo Ruo, listen to me,”
His unfinished words were interrupted by a cold retort, “Go on.”
“I,” Gu Shi stared at her icy expression and froze for a moment.
He was almost certain he had lost her.
So clearly, so obviously.
And so painfully.
He curled his lips into a self-mocking smile, but the smile quickly vanished. “I’m sorry, Ruo Ruo.”
Meng Ruo neither accepted nor rejected his apology, not even sparing him a glance as she supported Jiang Chen. “Let’s go.”
Jiang Chen raised an eyebrow, quite pleased to be taken care of by the girl.
He wasn’t entirely honorable he had noticed the girl before he spoke his true feelings.
He admitted he was deliberately provoking Gu Shi.
He was mad with jealousy. For so many years, the girl he had always yearned for had been following another man.
And she never once looked back at him.
If given the chance, he would stop at nothing.
Even if it meant being less than honorable.
After the two left, Li Muli stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to say.
Gu Shi leaned against the table, his brows filled with desolation and loneliness. After a long while, he let out a bitter laugh. “Muli, tell me, did I make a mistake?”
“I thought I liked you, then I thought I didn’t like anyone. That day, she told me she liked me.”
“I rejected her three times.”
After a moment of silence, he continued in a low voice, “The one who leaves first has no right to regret.”
Li Muli patted his shoulder, offering silent comfort.
They were all good friends, and taking sides would only make things worse.
The two stood in silence until Gu Shi finally spoke up, “I’m leaving first.”
Li Muli nodded, calming her mind as she began sketching her design drafts.
Two hours later.
Her back and shoulders ached from hunching over. She reached out to massage her shoulders, trying to relieve the pain from prolonged bending.
A new unread message from Yin Hanzhi popped up.
“Miss Li, would you have time to grab a meal together? I’m returning home tonight.”
In an instant, her thoughts drifted to that man.
A man she didn’t know but felt an inexplicable familiarity with.
Could he be her so-called biological family?
Well, since something as unbelievable as reincarnation had happened, what else couldn’t she accept?
“Sure,” she replied, raising an eyebrow.
Yin Hanzhi: “Then send me your address. I’ll pick you up.”
“No need. Send me the address, and I’ll go myself.”
A simple and direct refusal that was just like Li Muli.
Rather than relying on others for everything, she preferred to depend on herself.
With confidence, capability, and backing, she had nothing to worry about.
Afraid that her clingy husband might overthink things, she sent him a soothing voice message.
“Hubby, I won’t be coming to see you at noon. Love you, mwah mwah mwah.”
When Fu Chenyan heard she wouldn’t be coming, he frowned.
But the following words miraculously softened his expression.
Her “mwah mwah mwah.”
He’d have to make up for it in person.
“Okay, baby.”
Soon, Li Muli arrived at the destination the man had mentioned.
A hotpot restaurant.
Li Muli’s lips twitched. Was her love for hotpot common knowledge now?
The man was already seated at the table. His elegant demeanor remained undiminished even in the noisy, bustling environment.
The man saw the girl approaching gracefully and stood up with a smile playing on his lips. “I heard Miss Li loves hot pot the most.”
“Thank you.”
There was an inexplicable rapport between them, without a trace of awkwardness or restraint.
Yin Hanzhi chuckled softly, then looked up earnestly at Li Muli. “I feel like there’s some inexplicable fate between us, Miss Li.”
Li Muli let out a light laugh, her red lips parting slightly. “Perhaps we’re long-lost siblings?”
The speaker had intentions, and the listener caught the meaning.
Yin Hanzhi felt a pang of guilt and lowered his gaze, pretending to focus on picking up food with his chopsticks.
Unbeknownst to him, that momentary guilt was noticed by Li Muli.
Having lived a second life, she had long mastered the art of reading people and probing their hearts.
So, did he mean there really was some connection between them?
Yin Hanzhi used serving chopsticks to pick up food for her, a smile still on his lips. He spoke as if testing the waters, “Since we’re so fated, you could consider me your brother.”
Li Muli: “…” Absolutely unnecessary. That line sounded so sleazy.
A phrase suddenly flashed through her mind: First friends, then siblings, and finally becoming little sweethearts.
Thanks, but no thanks she valued her well-being.
Seeing the girl remain silent, the man paused briefly before speaking again, feigning nonchalance. “I just feel we have a special connection. I quite like you, Miss Li.”
“How much do you like me?” she asked unexpectedly.
Yin Hanzhi was taken aback, seemingly not expecting such a response from the girl.
Why wasn’t she following the script?
“Enough to be your brother for free,” he replied.
Li Muli chuckled, lifting her eyes to meet his directly, her smile radiant. “First as a brother, then as a lover?”
Yin Hanzhi was left speechless, his lips twitching. Why was she so direct?
Was that even something to say out loud?
Besides, he didn’t have the nerve for that.
Her charming voice continued, though the sarcasm was clear and straightforward. “Let me guess—Mr. Yin fell in love with me at first sight? And now you’re taking the slow-and-steady approach? Or perhaps you’re trying to steal me away?”
Yin Hanzhi pressed his lips together, unsure how to respond.
This girl was far more challenging than he had anticipated.
Li Muli tapped the table lightly with her fingertip, a faint smile on her lips, her voice soft and sweet. “Or perhaps Mr. Yin would care to explain?”
Her authority was undeniable without any show of anger.
Her demeanor almost overlapped with the shadow of someone from his memories.
Yin Hanzhi chuckled lightly. “You’re joking, Miss Li. I just feel a natural affinity and find myself drawn to you.”
He clearly sensed the girl’s resistance toward him.
Especially after she mentioned the possibility of them being siblings.
She was pushing him away.
Li Muli gave a slight smile, stood up gracefully, and said, “Thank you, Mr. Yin. I’ll be going now.”
A strong intuition told her that there was definitely some connection between them.
The Yin family of the capital.
Li Muli.
For some reason, she resisted him.
Especially after suspecting they might be related by blood.
Perhaps it was unwillingness, reluctance, or a mix of everything.
Or perhaps she simply didn’t want to step out of her comfort zone, so she instinctively pushed him away.
Sometimes, seeing things too clearly was not a romantic thing in itself.
Li Muli pressed her lips together, lowered her gaze, and drove to the Fu Corporation.
Whenever she felt unhappy, she wanted to see him.
She wanted to cling to him, act spoiled in his embrace, and have him kiss, hold, and comfort her.
After their relationship became public, Li Muli moved freely through the Fu Corporation, and the CEO’s private elevator became her exclusive ride.
As he had intended, his love for her was known to all.
Li Muli saw Fu Chenyan standing by the window, gazing into the distance. She wrapped her arms around his waist from behind and unconsciously cooed in a spoiled tone:
“Ayan.”..”
Fu Chenyan turned and hooked an arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace. His voice was low and tender, “What’s wrong, baby?”
He had sensed her the moment she pushed the door open.
Only she could move freely through his domain without hindrance.
Whether it was his territory or his heart.
She could always come and go as she pleased, with complete freedom.
Li Muli lowered her gaze, meeting the man’s gentle, doting eyes, and unconsciously pouted, “I want a hug.”
A soft chuckle escaped from Fu Chenyan’s chest as he enveloped the girl in his arms.
“Missed me, baby?”
His tone was certain.
Laced with a hint of teasing and a touch of amusement.
