- Chapter 35 - She Forever Belongs to Herself
Fu Chenyan buried his head in the girl’s shoulder, his voice low and aggrieved. “But baby, you belong to me.”
Li Muli gently stroked his head, soothing the man. “A’Yan, I belong to myself.”
She would always belong to freedom; emotions were never meant to shackle her.
It was just that, for now, she willingly confined herself for his sake.
Fu Chenyan held her tightly without responding.
But in his heart, the idea of coaxing her back home sooner only grew stronger.
Early in the morning, Li Muli was still half-asleep when Fu Chenyan kissed her hair. “Baby, I have to go on a business trip.”
The woman murmured a groggy “Mm.”
The man sighed helplessly she probably hadn’t even registered what he’d said.
Since they started dating, they had never been apart. Being wrapped up in each other had become an addiction.
But he had just received urgent news: the business in Country G had run into trouble, and he had to handle it personally.
How he wished he could tuck her into his embrace and take her with him.
Seeing no sign of the girl waking, Fu Chenyan leaned down and gently kissed her lips, unable to bring himself to disturb her sleep.
“Baby, you have to miss me.”
Downstairs, Fu Chenyan instructed Zhang Ma to make sure the girl ate breakfast every day after waking, avoid cold water, and take good care of herself, fussing like an old mother.
Zhang Ma smiled warmly. “Sir, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Miss Li.”
Fu Chenyan gave a slight nod, then glanced back at the staircase, his eyes filled with reluctance and longing.
Watching him leave, Zhang Ma shook her head with a knowing smile. “This child has suffered so much. Now that he finally has someone to care for, I hope he and Miss Li can be happy together.”
Two hours later, Li Muli opened her bleary eyes and casually reached for the other side of the bed. It had long gone cold, as if he’d been gone for quite some time.
She sat up abruptly and checked the time 9:30 a.m.
Had Fu Chenyan really left this morning without pestering her?
That wasn’t like him.
Whenever he had to leave early, he would always cling to her, waking her with kisses before leaving with a mischievous grin.
She got out of bed, washed up, and went downstairs, where she found Zhang Ma preparing breakfast. Rubbing her eyes, she asked casually, “Zhang Ma, what time did A’Yan leave?”
“Miss Li, Sir left for Country G on business at 7 a.m. He reminded you to eat breakfast and avoid cold water,” Zhang Ma replied, turning to gaze affectionately at the girl.
She truly adored this girl she brought so much warmth and life into the home.
Li Muli pouted slightly, vaguely recalling someone whispering in her ear early that morning, though she hadn’t caught the words.
This was their first time being apart since they started dating.
No work to occupy her, no “green tea” friends to hang out with, and no romance to indulge in.
As she ate breakfast, Li Muli began planning what to do next just as Li Muqing called.
“Sis, about what happened last time, I was wrong. Let me treat you to dinner this afternoon, okay?”
“Sure, what time?”
“6 p.m. Let’s meet at Xiangzun. Don’t be late.”
Li Muli clicked her tongue. Xiangzun? She could afford that already? It seemed she had latched onto a wealthy patron early this time.
So, in this life, had Li Muqing already chosen to degrade herself ahead of schedule?
Li Muqing was three years younger than her, majoring in performing arts in college. Later, she gradually sank into depravity for the sake of fame.
In her past life, Li Muli had refused to introduce her to the industry, wanting her to remain the cherished princess of the Li family. But Li Muqing had mistaken it for malice.
How absurd, why would she ever harm her own sister in her past life? But in this life, things were different.
A cold smirk curled at the corner of Li Muli’s lips as she headed upstairs to sketch her fashion designs.
Her partner was about to return to their home country, and it was time for their company to step up its game.
Become a wealthy, beautiful socialite, marry Fu Chenyan, and ascend to the pinnacle of life, such were her ambitions.
Li Muli immersed herself in her creative work, and several hours later, a completed design lay before her. Satisfied, she rolled her shoulders and massaged her sore lower back.
She chuckled softly and murmured to herself, “As expected of someone destined for fame not bad at all.”
She could already envision how this garment would look when brought to life.
A red strapless top, with form-fitting sheer lace that accentuated every curve of the body. The delicate chiffon exuded elegance and romance, while the lace added a touch of gentle sweetness, a perfect fusion of grace and charm, refined yet intensely alluring.
In her previous life, it was this very design that had broken through the sea of minimalist, fresh styles.
Elegant yet seductive, captivating without being vulgar.
After admiring her work for a while, Li Muli picked up her phone, only to find her notifications empty.
Huh? Not a single message from Fu Chenyan?
She refreshed the screen vigorously, but the last message remained from days ago: “Okay, baby.”
Something felt off. Given how clingy he usually was, how could he go so long without contacting her?
Li Muli: 【A-Yan, have you arrived? What are you up to?】
When no immediate reply came, she didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she prepared to go see what tricks Li Muqing had up her sleeve.
The young woman casually changed into a canary-yellow minidress, her lush dark hair cascading loosely over her shoulders, exuding an unspoken allure.
Her long, pale legs were exposed to the air, the delicate skin so flawless it seemed almost translucent, enhancing her enchanting charm.
When Li Muqing saw the woman approaching her, she bit her lower lip hard. Even she couldn’t deny the other’s striking beauty.
“Sister, I’ve been reflecting on myself lately,” Li Muqing said as she stepped forward, linking arms with her and smiling ingratiatingly. “I’ve made many mistakes in the past, so today I wanted to apologize.”
Li Muli glanced at her and replied casually, “And?”
Li Muqing’s expression faltered, but she maintained her smile and picked up a glass of wine. “Sister, let me punish myself with ten drinks first.”
A faint smile played on Li Muli’s lips as she watched the performance unfold.
Li Muqing downed glass after glass until her face flushed crimson. “Sister, I’m sorry.”
Li Muli raised an eyebrow, puzzled by her sister’s antics.
“Sister, I’ve behaved terribly before. You’ve always been kind to me, and yet I even tried to seduce your fiancé.”
“It’s all my fault, sister. Can you forgive me?”
“If not, I’ll keep drinking, sister,” Li Muqing declared before downing another glass.
Feeling increasingly intoxicated, she pinched her thigh hard to stay alert, letting tears fall as she began to sob.
“Sister, I truly know I was wrong.”
Li Muli rubbed her ear, annoyed by the incessant noise. “Enough, stop crying. I forgive you.”
Ignoring the tears at the corners of her eyes, Li Muqing leaned in to propose a toast. “Sister, this glass is for you. From now on, let’s be as close as we once were.”
Li Muli’s eyes sparkled with amusement, as if moved by her words. “Really, my dear sister?”
“Really, sister! I’m so happy you’re still willing to acknowledge me as your sister.”
Li Muli gently wiped the tears from her sister’s face. “Alright, dear sister, go freshen up in the restroom. You’ve cried yourself into a mess.”
“Okay, sister. You’re so gentle.”
Li Muli affectionately ruffled her hair. “Hurry up and go. When you come back and have a drink, we’ll let bygones be bygones.”
Li Muqing nodded, stood up, and headed toward the restroom.
Hah, what a fool. Her sister still so easily swayed by soft words rather than harsh ones.
